Snoke looked at his knights and the knights who had been trained by Ben as they stood before him. He gestured to Rey. "This is my granddaughter, you will treat her like a princess. You will obey her every command, unless it contradicts one of my orders. If I find that any of you so much as touches her, you will face the consequences."
"Yes, your majesty," the knights replied.
Snoke nodded then turned to one of the knights. "Go and fetch one of the servants from the dungeons, my granddaughter should be dressed in the finest clothes..." he told one of the knights who had stayed behind. "...not this," he gestured to the black tunic and trousers Christopher had loaned her.
"Can you look for the girl named Rose?" Rey told the knight.
He nodded before going to the dungeon to find her.
"She is my handmaiden," Rey told her grandfather, she didn't want to say that they were friends because it might put Rose in danger. But it was also true, Rose was her handmaiden. She really needed a friend right now, her heart was breaking and she needed someone who would listen.
Snoke nodded as if he didn't care.
Moments later the knight emerged with Rose.
"Take my granddaughter to her chamber and find something for her to where that is fit for a queen, something black," Snoke told Rose.
She nodded, looking very confused.
"I am the king now, you will address me as such," Snoke yelled at her.
Rose jolted back slightly in surprise. "Yes your majesty," she replied, curtsying. Then she took Rey's arm and led her down the hall.
"Where's Finn? I didn't see him in the dungeon," Rose asked, once they were out of earshot.
"Ben helped him escape," Rey replied.
Rose nodded relieved, but the look of relief was quickly replaced by one of confusion. "What's going on, Rey?"

"He tried to kill Ben because he..." she trailed off, she didn't want to make Rose feel guilty by saying the reason Snoke had tried to kill Ben...to save Finn. "...he just tried to kill him. Then he brought him to me unconscious and on the brink of death."
"Is he going to be okay?" Rose interrupted, the concern was obvious in her voice.
Rey nodded. "One of his knights is still loyal to him, he brought a doctor to heal him in secret."
Rose nodded, seeming relieved. "But what did Snoke mean? Why did he call you his granddaughter?" she asked as they reached the room Rey had once shared with Ben.
"He's my mother's father...according to him she fell in love and married my father against his wishes. The attack on Jakku had nothing to do with the war, he was trying to kill me and my father." Rey looked down at the floor in shame, knowing that Rose's family had been killed because of her. Everyone in the wastelands had been.
"Why?" Rose asked as she began rummaging through Rey's wardrobe.
"My mother died giving birth to me so he blamed both me and my father for her death," Rey answered sadly as she sat down on the couch.
"That's ridiculous," Rose answered. "It wasn't your fault, nor your father's. It's just something that happens sometimes. Besides, she loved your father enough to runaway with him I'm sure she wouldn't have wanted either of you to get hurt."
Rey nodded, burying her head in her hands. After she forgave Ben she promised that she would never allow herself to be consumed by hate again. She wanted to hate Snoke. It was really his fault that her father had died, he'd abused her husband for years and even tried to kill him...but she couldn't hate anymore, not even him. She'd spent too much of her life hating the man she now loved more than anyone, she didn't want to spend another moment caught up in revenge and hate.

She wanted to feel other things...love, joy, even grief, she realized now that she'd used her anger so that she wouldn't have to grieve her father. But anger didn't make her feel any better it only made her feel worse. Some things could only be expressed through tears.
She tried to be strong but this was just too much, first Ben had almost died and now she'd lost him in a different way. She couldn't stop the tears from slipping from her eyes and sliding down her cheeks.
Rose came over and placed her hand on her shoulder. "Are you okay?"
Rey sighed. "I don't know when I'll get to see Ben again, I told Snoke that I would serve him if he promised that he wouldn't hurt Ben, but he made a condition that if I went to visit Ben he would kill him. What if I never get to see the man I love again?"
Rose sat down next to her. "Don't worry Rey, if Finn escaped I'm sure that he's planning a way to rescue us. He probably went to get the king and queen's army."
Rey nodded, wiping the tears from her eyes. "You're right, Rose." She couldn't lose hope. Have faith, she told herself.
Rose hugged her, then she went back to the wardrobe and grabbed several dresses for Rey to chose from. She pulled out a few dresses that were black or had a lot of black in them.
"Do you really want to wear this?" Rose asked. Rey had only ever worn black on the anniversary of her father's death, normally she wore blue, green or tan. She usually liked wearing bright natural colors.
"Yes, but not for Snoke. I will wear it because my heart is grieving from being separated from Ben," Rey answered. Then she stood and began undressing.
"What happened?" Rose asked as she saw the scars on her back.
"Snoke whipped Ben on the day we arrived at the castle. He has done it for years, every since Ben was thirteen years old. I just couldn't watch him be whipped, so I offered to take his punishment. But after I got only a few lashes, Ben freed himself from the knights and laid on top of me to keep me from getting whipped any further. But I would have gladly taken the lashes for him."
"Poor boy, no one knows what he's been through. I can tell that you really love him. I'm so happy that you've both found love."
Rey nodded. "If I was free to marry anyone in the whole world, he's the only one I would choose."
"That's so romantic," Rose answered.

Meanwhile...
Finn had been walking for days, but he finally reached Mustafar. Even from a distance he could see Alderaan's troops attacking the dark fortress that rested in the volcanic wasteland. But Finn knew that their attack was in vain, Snoke wasn't here he had already taken over the castle.
Finn hurried over to the general, out of breath.
"Finn, what are you doing here?"
"It's Snoke...he's taken over the castle...he's holding King Han and Queen Leia prisoner," Finn said breathlessly.
"I knew Prince Ben was a traitor," the general whispered.
"No, he isn't. He's the one who helped me escape," Finn replied.
The general looked at him surprised. "I guess I misjudged him." The general turned to his capitan. "Sound the retreat, we're going to back to Alderaan."
The captain nodded, then lifted a horn to his lips. He blew it and the sound traveled across the battlefield.

Leftover Apocalypse
[Participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] This is a story about the newly-adult Calliope Smith having a terrible day that ends in her getting mysteriously teleported from Phoenix, Arizona to a fantasy world where her life is in constant danger. She considers this an upgrade. Someone evil is looking for her, and she doesn't know why. Someone who seems to know a lot about her has promised they'll help her, but she doesn't know who they are. All that matters to Callie is that magic is real and one way or another she's going to learn it. The end of the world is coming up, sure, but Callie won't need to worry about that. In fact, by the time she even finds out about it one of the doomsday devices will already be destroyed, and the authorities will be well on the way to dealing with the other one. It's fine. Everything will be smooth sailing. Almost certainly. Probably. Chapters are usually about 2500-3500 words, and the goal is to post 2-3 per week but I sometimes get busy or have some writers block. It's your standard portal fantasy / Isekai premise, but unlike some the main character's time on Earth and how she got pulled into another world will (eventually) be explored. Some slight GameLit-feeling stuff later, no menus or level-ups but there's something suspiciously like a skill tree when the magic system gets going. No number crunching, and while the main character will get to do some silly stuff she won't be a god like in some fics (and will in fact spend a lot of time being badly outclassed by her enemies). Some reader interaction, ranging from adding to the worldbuilding to occasionally making big important decisions about skill progression. Please note that the main character is flawed and impulsive, and will make some stupid decisions. That's part of the story, but I get that it's not for everyone. Trigger Warnings: Foster care system references, crappy parenting. Some mental health adjacent stuff, specifically the main character has some issues where she experiences varying levels of empathy and emotional vulnerability depending on the day (it's complicated and not meant to portray any real-world conditions). Occasional violence including mention of death and grievous bodily harm, but no detailed descriptions of gore.
