《THE RUNNING》29

"Okay!" Blade claps his hands together and stands from the table, smiling. "Thank you all for coming and making Elenore feel more at home!" At this I blushed at my breakfast plate, the sausages and cakes cleared away minutes earlier. The last few minutes we had just sat around talking about mindless things, the conversations never verging into sensitive territory such as my family or after The Running.

"Yes, thank you all so much for involving me. You didn't have to, but you did and I greatly appreciate the gesture," I added, deciding to sweeten the deal on gaining their trust and affection. Blade grins down at my seated figure.

"She will be staying here for a long while, I suppose, so the sooner she gets comfortable with you all the better!"

At this the smile was wiped from my lips as I snapped my head towards his. Just as I was about to argue back, saying how Tiberius was going to come rescue me if I didn't escape first, he thankfully interrupted me again, saving me from causing a scene and questioning their growing fondness. "Today while you all are working at your assigned posts, I'll be showing Elenore around so she can get a better feel of everything around here. Understood?"

"Ooh! Ooh!" a girl I recognized as Elizabeth Reigns urged, jumping up and down in her seat while waving her hand around frantically. Elizabeth was a 24 year old and had breast-length dirty blond hair matched with wide set chocolate-brown eyes, an uncommon combination among She-Wolves. Blade breathed out a sigh as he smiled at her.

"Yes, Reigns?" he asked, using her surname as a nickname since everyone knows her by that.

"Well, I was just wondering if I could show her around some too! Ya know, since we just met! When we're out we can bond and talk and stuff! Plus I'm sure she'd like some female company, right?" Elizabeth, or Reigns, looked over at me for confirmation. Nodding my head and looking back at Blade, I saw him bite his lip slightly before agreeing.

"Yea, you can show her around, BUT," he stopped us before we could start talking, "do NOT let her out of your sight! She needs to be shown the house and stables, and I'll show her the grounds when you're done. Sound good?" He left almost no room for discussion, so we both nodded quickly. "Okay, then if there isn't any other questions or comments," he gave a pointed look to Reigns, "then you may all be dismissed. I'll be helping Johnathan with the fighter training today," he referred to the Beta. Everyone from the table scooted their chairs back and got together with their friends, telling me that it was great meeting me and that I'd love it here. Highly doubting the latter, I was distracted from finding Reigns when Beta Johnathan walked around the table towards me, weaving around the throngs of ongoing people.

"Luna Elenore!" he called out over the sounds of mindless chattering and laughing. Smiling lightly to let him know I heard him, I waited beside my chair until he finally stopped infront of me. "It's a pleasure to meet you, Luna Elenore," he grinned, showing off his deep-yet attractive- laugh lines. "I know you're probably pretty overwhelmed right now, but I just wanted to let you know that if you have any questions that you can't find the answer to, any at all, I'm your guy." Smiling widely at his offering, I replied;

"Thank you so much for your offer, Johnathan. I'm sure I will have some questions at the end of today, so if I can't figure them out then I'll definitely find you."

Staring directly into his clear green eyes, I was heavily reminded of Tiberius. How his eyes turned golden when his wolf wanted to take over, how his hair fell perfectly above his right eyebrow.

"Okay, well I'm going to Blade to help train the newbies, so I'll see ya later?" he ended questioningly. Nodding at him, he then smiled and spun on his heel before sprinting out of the dining room.

"What did he want?" Reigns suddenly spoke over my shoulder. Jumping in surprise as my hands flew up to the air infront of my face, I whirled around to Elizabeth, her eyes wide with my jagged movements. Relaxing my shoulders and calming my beating heart, I shot her a playfully angry look. Finally recovering from my scare and standing upright, I turned towards her.

"He just said that it was really nice to meet me, and that if I have any questions to go and ask him," I said simply and shrugged my fingers. Eying the doorway with a wary eye, she seemed unconvinced.

"Is that all he said? Nothing else?"

"No that-that's all he said. Why?" My curious side was starting to come out. Shaking her head and waving her hand nonchalantly, she shrugged off the conversation.

"No reason. Anyway, you ready to go see the rest of the house?" Nodding, she proceeded to give me a thorough tour of the entire house, besides the bedrooms of other Wolves. Seeing different Wolves doing different chores, I was pleased that everyone chipped in somehow to the well being of the Pack House.

The kitchen was wooden like the rest of the house, a circular island positioned in the middle of the floor. The cabinets had glass faces so you could easily find what you needed, and wooded planks lined the floor and ceiling. The living room, well, one of them, had an open floor plan and a ceiling length stone furnace. Windows lined the back of the living room, giving a Wolf a breathtaking view of the forested backyard and a barn behind them.

"Are those the stables?" I asked Reigns as I pressed my nose and fingers to the chilly glass.

"Oh, yea. Are you ready to go see them?" Nodding, I slipped on a spare jacket that was on a coat rack beside the glass door and stepped out into the icy November air. Thankful that I was still wearing my sweatpants and hoodie, I glanced over at Reigns who was in the process of covering up her long sleeved plaid shirt and jeans with a thick fur coat.

As we walked over the thin, dead grass in comfortable silence, we eventually approached a rich dark-brown stained barn, rectangular rock blocks stacked up along the front wall 4 feet up. Appreciating the intricate woodsmanship of the supporter beams and framed windows, I pushed aside the heavy church style doors and embraced the sharp scent of freshly cut hay and horse manure.

Infront of me lay large individual horse stalls, every other one on both sides occupied by a horse. Walking past each one and sticking my hand over the wooden gates, each horse nuzzling my palm gently, I turned towards Elizabeth who was at the first stall kissing a horse's nose.

"Why so many horses?" There had to be atleast 15 of these mares and stallions in this barn. I mean, we're Werewolves, not humans. What would we need with horses?

She shrugged slightly. "Blade likes to ride them often for some reason. I just like them because they're big sweety pies!" she cooed at the end, shaking her head lovingly at the huffing equine. "You can come out here and ride them whenever you want, as long as you get Blade's permission first and you take a guard," she added. Liking that idea, I then asked where Blade was. "Oh! I forgot about him for a moment!"

Taking my hand and pulling me from the barn, we jogged over to a big empty field filled with men in reflective armor splayed across their chests and torso's gathered in a large crowd, everyone facing the middle and obviously watching something. Yelling and low grunting caught my attention, and I craned my head to peer around the tall and broad shouldered bodies of the men. Leaving Elizabeth to follow me, I quietly weaved my way past their shoulders and under their arms, saying 'Excuse me' and 'I'm sorry' whenever needed.

Finally reaching the inner ring of the crowd, I spotted one figure mercilessly beating another to a pulp with one hand and holding his armor up with the other, giving him an easier and clearer shot. The man on the bottom was obviously losing, with dried and fresh blood running down his face while both eyes were quickly turning to an ugly bloated purple. The man on top, who was standing with his legs on either side of the losing man, didn't seem to be anywhere near stopping when I finally caught a glimpse of his face. Suddenly it all made sense; why the guards in training hadn't stopped the fight, why they were all just watching with interest, a wild glint in their eye. The eye of a Rouge.

"Blade!"
