《His painful rejection》Chapter 16 bad moment

Kristen
After that little moment near the waterfall Roy and I came to the game room. Everything was going great until we heard the door open and Hunter entered.
The room became quiet no one moved. I stared into his eyes as he did the same. I had thought he would be mad but instead all I Could see was a pained expression.
I just wanted to run to him and take him in my arms but the pain that he caused me reminded me to stay back.
"I see that you two are getting along," Hunter said as he took a step closer to us. His words coming out bitter.
I was afraid I didn't know what to do every step he took closer to us brought a new wave of fear. I've seen Hunter mad before so I know what he is capable of.
He took one last step and was now in front of me our faces just a few inches from each other. I could still smell the mint in his breath, feel how his warmth radiated of his body, and all I wanted to do at that moment was wrap my arms around him but I held back.
"Kristen we need to talk," as he said those words every pack member that was in the room scurried away. I took a few cautious steps away from him.
The three of us were left alone in the room. It had begun to thicken with tension. Hunter began to walk up to us every step he took brought a new wave of fear. I've seen him angry and I can tell you that it's not a pretty sight.
We now stood face to face, his minty breath fanned my face, and the warmth of his body radiated towards me.
The room was dead quiet, the tension in the room was so thick you could cut it with a knife. For a few moments no one moved, no one even said a word.
Hunter reached to touch my face but his hand was slapped away by Roy. He growled at not being allowed to touch his mate.
"Kristen please hear me out," Hunter begged.
"Why should I," I asked.
"I know what I did was wrong, but it was a mistake please you know me better than anybody please," he said as tears rolled down his cheeks.
"Look Hunter out of everyone I never thought you could hurt me that way. But you did," I looked away not wanting to meet his gaze.
"I know what I did was wrong but you have no right to be a hypocrite," he said.
I turned to him with anger how dare he call me a hypocrite.
"How dare you," I snarled
"I speak the truth I saw you in the woods kissing him," he pointed at Roy.
"But it's different," I protested.
"How is it different exactly," he asked.
"I..I-" he interrupted me.
"Exactly when were you going to tell me that you and Roy were mates," he growled.
"Hunter I-" Roy interrupted what I was going to say.
"She doesn't have to explain anything to you," he said.
"She does because I'm her mate," Hunter snarled.
"Well you lost that right when you hurt her," Roy snarled back.
"Says the one that hurt her first," Hunter shot back.
By now they were almost at each other's throats. I had to step in to keep them from hurting each other. I looked up at Hunter and his eyes met mine. The sadness in them broke my heart.

"Please Kristen," he begged he reached out for me but Roy pushed me in back of me and stood in a fighting stands.
"Don't you dare touch her," he growled.
"Kristen why did you keep this secret from me this long," Hunter said almost in a whisper.
"You ask her that what about you," Roy asked him.
"What do you mean," I asked.
Hunter looked at Roy as if telling him to shut up.
"What does he mean Hunter," i asked.
"It’s nothing," he said
"Oh so now you're not going to say anything," Roy hissed.
"Roy what do you mean?" I begged.
Roy turned to look at me and looked back at Hunter, "Tell her Hunter, tell her about Isabelle."
Those words shot a pain through my heart and anger began to boil trough my veins.
"Who the hell is Isabelle!"
Hunter looked down as pain flashed in his eyes. He stayed quiet and wouldn't meet my gaze.
"Roy who is she," I asked.
"It's not my job to explain its his," he nodded at Hunter.
"Hunter did you cheat on me before this too," I asked the anger had gone way what was left was pain and sadness.
"It's not like that," he said as he looked down at the floor.
"Then what is it," I asked.
"I...I...just can't say it right now," he said and ran out the door.
I stood there looking at the door that Hunter had just left through. Roy began to walk away regret written all over his face.
"Roy," I said almost in a whisper.
He turned and looked at me, "Yeah," he asked.
"Why did Hunter looked pained when you said her name," I asked.
"Like I said before I have no right to say who she is you would have to ask him or Jake," he said and walked away.
I stood there alone with so much on my mind. I need to find Hunter.
.
.
.
I have looked all over the house and all over the territory but i haven't found him. How couldn't I find him a person can't get lost that fast. I ran up the stairs when I bumped into someone.
Jake greeted me with a small smile.
"Hey have you seen Hunter," I asked.
"No sorry i haven't seen him since the morning," he said as he began to walk down the stairs.
"Jake," i said.
He turned and looked at me, "yeah," he asked.
"Can I ask you a question?"
"Well you already did ask me a question," he said with a smile.
"No not that. Do you know someone by the name of Isabelle," i asked the smile on his face disappeared.
"How do you know that name" he asked.
"There was an argument between Roy and Hunter and well Roy brought up her name," I said.
Jake looked pissed off and worried at the same time.
"So do you?" I asked.
He grabbed my hand and began to guide me up the stairs.
"Where are we going,” I asked.
"Somewhere private," was his quick reply
I nodded and followed him. We entered the alphas office knowing that it was soundproof even for werewolves.
I turned to look at Jake and waited for him to explain who this Isabelle girl is and what does she have to do with Hunters mood.
He pointed at the chair but I just shook my head. He sighed and walked closer to me.

"I can't say much because it's not my business but I will say what I'm permitted to say," he said.
I nodded and gestured him to continue.
"Isabelle was not just an ordinary pack member," he began.
"Was?" I asked.
He nodded and walked to the table I turned so I could see him.
"Yeah was," he confirmed.
"Then what was she?" I whispered my heart began to race and how i had asked it had been to low if he had been human he wouldn't have heard me ask but he did.
As he said the next four words I regretted at that moment asking anything about her, "She was Hunter's mate."
"What do you mean Hunter's mate? You're pulling a prank on me aren't you?" I asked
He shook his head and looked away not wanting to meet my gaze.
"Jake please tell me is this a joke," I Pleaded. Why would Hunter hide such information from me. Say the one who kept the secret of her first made from him. The woman in my head sneered.
"I wish it was," he whispered still not meeting my gaze.
"Please tell me more what do you mean was?"
"It's not my job to say," he said as he looked up at me. "I'll leave you two alone."
"What do you mean you two?" I asked.
I turned to look at Hunter standing at the door. My heart sank I didn't know what to say. Jake walked out with one last nod at me and a pat on the back to Hunter.
"You really want to know who she was?" Hunter asked as the door closed behind him.
I nodded I've gotten this far might as well finish it and know the whole story right?
He went and sat down next to the window. He patted the spot next to him and i walked up to him and sat down.
"Well where do I start," he asked.
"From the beginning," I said trying to lighten up the mood.
He nodded and faced forward as if trying to concentrate on what he was going to say.
"It was a year before you had came to my pack. Isabelle and I had been mated for over three months. It was a special day for us because we had recently had gotten good news. I was going to take her out on a date to celebrate but I had to finish up some pack stuff first," he began
Hunter
Flashback
"Hunter I can't wait for for later," Isabelle said with a giggle.
"I can't wait either love" I Said as I kissed her neck.
"I'll be outside if you need me," she said and stood up from my lap.
"I'll be out soon okay," I said with a smile.
"Okay" she said giving me a small peck on the lips and walked out the door.
I sat back with a smile. I began to fill up some paperwork when all of a sudden I heard a scream. A scream I knew all too well. My mate was in danger.
I ran at inhuman speed so I could protect my mate. The sight in front of me was shocking rogues had dared cross my territory. And my beautiful mate was in the center of all the chaos. I saw as they tried to bring her down. She fell as one rouge swung at her with it paw.
I began to see red.
"No one hurts my mate and get away with it!” I yelled
I began to attack every rogue that stepped in my way. Only a few minutes passed and the rogues decided to back of from the fight.
I shifted back and was handed a pair of jeans. I watched as some pack members chased the last of the rogues.
Someone crying in the back made me turn. Lucy held on to Isabelle's hand. I ran to her as tears ran down his cheeks. Isabelle grasped for air. She began to choke on her own blood trying to say something to me.
"Don't cry my love," she whispered as she touched my face.
I held her hand and kissed the back of it.
"It will be fine we can get through this," I begged but I didn't know if I was trying to convince her or myself
She shook her head. She knew that she wouldn't survive the wound was too deep to heal even with her inhuman ability to heal she would bleed out before the wound was completely healed.
"Please,” I begged.
"My life has ended but yours has barely began," she said with a small smile.
"My life will end with you," I whispered.
"Shush now," she scolded. "Promise me you will stay strong and you will live a happy life?"
"I won't be happy if I don't have you in my life," I whispered.
"Hunter I know you're strong please be strong for me," she begged.
A tear ran down my cheek but I nodded.
She lifted up her head and I met her halfway I didn't mind the blood on her lips because I knew that would be the last kiss I would share with her.
Her body went limp and with one last exhale of air death took her. I saw as one single tear ran down her soft pale cheek.
.......
Flashback over.
Kristen
"She died in my arms all because I couldn't save her," he cried.
"Hunter but it wasn't you fault," I said.
"You know what hurts the most," he asked.
"What," I said.
"That day we were going to celebrate because we had found out she was carrying my pup," he said with a whisper.
My eyes began to fill up with tears. And that horrible choking feeling appeared my nose began to sting and i fought back the tears.
"Hunter I'm sorry," I whispered.
"It's fine," he said not meeting my gaze.
"Why didn't you tell me about her before," I asked as I took his large hand in my small one.
"Because you were broken at the time. I didn't want you to compare yourself to her. I loved you from the first moment I meet you. You brought happiness into my life once more and I just wanted to enjoy every last minute with you," he said as he turned his gaze towards me.
"Oh," I said.
"Yeah," he said. "You remind me of her sometimes you know, but of course your unique and beautiful on your own"
I gave him a small smile, "in what way," I asked.
"You are both stubborn and outgoing." he said with a smile.
I smiled back and kissed his hand.
"I'm sorry for thinking you had cheated on me before," I whispered.
"It's okay," he said as he kissed the top of my head.
"Kristen," he said.
"Yeah,” I asked as i rested my head in his shoulder.
"Can you forgive me for what I did?" he asked. “I know it was stupid of me. I shouldn't have let it happen. I was drunk and made a mistake. I love you and I don't want to lose you. I'm so sorry. I'll spend the rest of my life trying to make up for it. I'll do anything if it means I don't lose you too,” he whispered
I looked up at him and nodded, "yeah," I said.
“Y-you forgive me?” he asked
I nodded.
He gave me a big smile and I smiled back. He gave me a small kiss. I rested my head in his shoulder once more and took a deep breath.
We sat there in silence enjoying each others company and the nice warm light that seeped through the window.

CW: Contains mildly graphic scenes of violence/death, topics of unwanted pregnancy/abortion, scientific experimentation on sapient beings, depression/suicide, grief, and trauma. The tone of this fiction is often dark and distinctly dystopian in lighter shades of Margaret Atwood, though where there is darkness there is always hope and light. On Hiatus Until September When the School Year Begins and Mom This story takes a considerable amount of time and mental energy to complete. I thought I had enough backlog and time to post it as a serial while COVID kept my child home from school, but it turns out while I can quickly write other pieces, I cannot produce the quality I need with this one at an acceptable rate. We'll resume in September when my days are much freer. Thank you for your patience and stay tuned for a different storytelling romp more suited for a serial platform in the meantime.
