《One Moment, One Breath》Chapter Ten

A couple of days had passed in complete bliss. She spent a lot of time with both Jasper and Alice, getting to know her mates a little better. She finally told them the truth about why she had left her home and about all of the things her pack had done to make her life hard. It was painful to dredge up those memories but they had a right to know about her past so she told them everything. She told them about being starved and neglected. The information about her father being a vampire they already knew but they had also learned that she was born from rape and had killed her mother during childbirth which was probably the most upsetting thing she had to tell them. She worried they would see her differently. She told them about how she got the scar on her arm which had pissed both Jasper and Alice off to the point that she had to convince them not to hunt her pack down and slaughter them by the time she was done talking. It was a huge relief to have no more secrets from her mates.
They finished up their project for History as well. She had taken a little longer to complete her part because of her inner turmoil the last couple of weeks but it was done now and both Jasper and Alice had approved her final draft. They only had to make some kind of presentation now which would be easy enough with how creative Alice was.
It was Saturday evening and Aleesia found herself curled up on her couch with a huge pile of blankets surrounding her while she read and listened to music. She was utterly bored and had this odd ache in her chest that just wouldn't go away. She knew what it was but she didn't want to come off as overly clingy. She deeply missed her mates even though she had seen them yesterday morning at school. It was an odd feeling to be so completely dependent on them to fill the void that seemed to have torn its way through her soul but she understood it at the same time. They were bonded. It felt like so much more than an imprint. It was like their very souls were stitched together somehow.
She snorted to herself and shook her head. When had she become so sappy? Was it the moment their eyes met or had it slowly occurred as she was getting to know them and growing to love them more and more each day? The answer didn't truly matter. She was lovestruck and there was nothing she could do about it, not that she would if she could.

She sighed and uncurled her legs, untangling herself from her blanket cocoon and headed for the kitchen to grab something to eat. A low growl left her lips when she opened her fridge and cabinets to find nothing but a single box of macaroni and cheese and a rather sad looking tomato. She REALLY didn't feel like going to the store at the minute, so she sighed and headed back to the livingroom to continue her book. She wasn't overly starving yet so that particular chore could be put off for a few hours.
About an hour later there was a quiet knock on her door before it swung open and Alice floated in, arms laden with heavy grocery bags. Aleesia's eyebrows shot up as she watched her mate glide through her house heading straight toward the kitchen. Aleesia jumped up and followed close behind, watching curiously as Alice plopped the bags down on the counter.
Alice then turned to her and pulled her sunglasses off while offering a bright smile and said, "You really should keep a better stocked pantry, Love, given that you actually need food." She turned and pulled out several ingredients which instantly made Aleesia's mouth water as her stomach rumbled loudly. She instantly realized that Alice must have had a vision of her either being hungry or going to the store.
"I was going to go to the store later. I didn't feel like it was urgent." Aleesia answered, moving to help Alice sort the groceries and put them away. It was looking like Alice had bought nearly all of her favorite foods which made the girl smile internally.
They finished putting most of the groceries away quickly, Aleesia doing most of it while Alice explored the cabinets, occasionally pulling out a pan or kitchen utensil.
"What are you doing?" Aleesia asked, watching as Alice started mixing together a homemade sauce of some kind and set a pack of ground chuck to brown in a pan on the stove. She moved fluidly, expertly, like she had done it a thousand times before even though she herself didn't eat food.
"Making you something to eat. Your stomach is growling louder than Jasper when he's...frustrated." Alice answered, tilting her head a little while looking at her with a cheeky smile.
Aleesia walked over and wrapped her arms around Alice's waist, peering around her shoulder to watch what she was doing. After a moment she realized that the vampire was making her favorite lasagna which set off a bundle of excitement inside of her.
Aleesia leaned in and placed a kiss against the cool skin at the base of Alice's neck before saying, "You're so sweet."
Alice shivered slightly from the feel of Aleesia's warm lips pressing to her soft spot and smiled, finishing off the ingredients for the sauce and setting it to the back of the stove to simmer while the meat cooked.

They chatted about random things one and off as Alice finished cooking up the different components of the lasagna and layered them before tossing the whole thing into the oven where it would need to cook for at least an hour. Aleesia noticed that the whole time Alice seemed a little off but didn't bring it up, hoping that if something was truly bothering her she'd talk to her about it on her own.
They opted to go to the living room and snuggle on the couch wrapped in the pile of blankets Aleesia had left there. They agreed on a cheesy rom com type movie that they found on one of her streaming services and snuggled together comfortably. Alice sat with her back against one of the arms of the couch and Aleesia lay on her stomach between Alice's legs with her head resting comfortably on Alice's chest. Aleesia really liked this position and she felt that Alice probably did as well when her cold arms wrapped around her back, pulling her closer. Having this one on one time with Alice was nice but she did miss Jasper and she wondered where he was. Normally the three of them were glued at the hip. It felt a little strange without him here.
"Hey Alice, Where is Jas?" She asked as she gazed that the screen, trying to follow the ridiculous plot of the movie
Alice's breathing hitched, only for a second but it was enough for Aleesia to notice so she turned her head, resting her chin in the valley between Alice's breasts, waiting for an answer.
"He went hunting with Edward and Carlisle." Alice answered, not taking her eyes from the TV screen.
Aleesia gazed at her for a moment, noticing that her mates eyes were also a little darker than normal and asked, "Why didn't you go with them? You look like you need to feed too."
"I had a vision of my mate starving because she forgot to go grocery shopping." She replied and looked down, giving a half hearted cheeky smile, "Don't worry. When Jasper gets back I'll go for a quick hunt."
"Okay." Aleesia said and turned her eyes back toward the TV. She knew there was more that Alice wasn't saying but she didn't want to push her to talk about it if she didn't want to. She trusted that Alice would tell her if something important was going on.
They spent the rest of the movie mostly in silence, occasionally laughing at something stupid or ridiculous the main character did or a brief comment here and there on how they could have avoided a plot hole. Alice's cool fingers drew random patterns on her back, helping her relax a little more from her thoughts. It was nice and it was peaceful but Aleesia still felt a trickle of worry at the back of her mind. Her brain and heart were both telling her something was off. Something important was bothering Alice and she wanted to know what it was.
Aleesia pushed herself up at the credits began to roll and pressed her lips to Alice's catching the fortune teller off guard slightly before she relaxed into the kiss, moving her in perfect sync with Aleesia's. Alice groaned, pulling Aleesia a little closer and nipped her bottom lip lightly, enough to sting but not enough to break the skin. Aleesia hissed, liking the feeling quite a lot before melding their lips together once more, opening up to Alice when she brushed her tongue along the seam of her lips. They fought back and forth but eventually Alice won the kiss, just as Jasper had, making Asleesia pull away and pout, slightly dazed by her mate.
"It's not fair, you and Jas are such good kissers." She huffed, burying her face into Alice's chest as her face heated in a bright red blush.
"Years of practice, Love. Don't worry, we are more than happy to teach you everything we know." Alice giggled, brushing her hands through Aleesia's hair and letting out a content sigh.
There was a soft click and some heavier footsteps approached the two before another cold hand reached out and caressed her heated cheek. She heard Jasper chuckle as she nuzzled her face further against Alice's chest in embarrassment.
"I think you broke her, Darlin'." Jasper smiled as he looked at the two people he loved most in the world.
"How was the hunt, Jas?" Alice asked quietly but Aleesia caught a hint of worry in her voice. Alice was good but her years of reading into every little sound and move with her pack helped her learn to pick up on little signals.
"Uneventful." Jasper answered vaguely with a frown, his voice giving nothing away.
Jaspers joined them on the couch and selected another movie for them all to watch but Aleesia couldn't focus on anything else. She was worried and her mates were being incredibly weird about something and she wanted to know why. Had she done something to upset them? What was causing them to be acting so....off? She didn't know but she did know she would find out.
