《The 48 Laws of Power in Practice》Law 27: Play on People's Need to Believe to Create a Cult-like Following
Advertisement
Here are the steps to create a cult-like following.
1. Keep it vague, keep it simple. Keep your message vague and profound, by creating new terms and using fancy titles.
2. Emphasize the visual and sensory over the intellectual. Appeal to all the senses to keep people captivated, and too distracted to question you.
3. Borrow the forms of organized religion to structure the group. Create a hierarchy to maintain power over the many.
4. Disguise your source of income. To show that good things happen to those who believe.
5. Set up an us-versus-them dynamic. Create exclusivity and make non-believers the enemy.
Belief leads to followers and those who can cultivate it in others hold the keys to power. Twin Flames is the belief that two souls were split from the same consciousness, similar to soul mates. A couple from Michigan amassed a huge following by convincing people they have divine powers to be able to help people find their twin flames.
Followers would pay thousands of dollars for the classes, coaching sessions, books, and other products. The hierarchy was set up like organized religion and those who could raise the most money for the couple had higher ranks in or organization.
People believed so much and were willing to do anything. This included stalking who they believed to be their twin flame. Even getting arrested for it or having a restraining order against them.
I looked at E and asked him a question, he pulled out a notebook and scribbled something to show me. What he wrote was "vow of silence". I knew this meant he couldn't speak for the week. Better than our other roommate who looks constantly hungover and is brandishing a black eye this week.
When it's 2 am and there's a ping on my cell phone, I let a second of reluctance pass before I jump out of bed. My clothes are on because I knew it was only a matter of time. We were driven to a house and led into a dark living room. Two dozen cloaked figures held candles all around us, as we took turns getting interrogated. and reciting principles.

We all accepted these various forms of torture. Most of us even competed with others for a spot. Greek life is really strange. During recruitment, they try to sell you. But once you pledge, they pick you apart. It's as if you can only be yourself outside the organization, but once you join their ranks, you'd better fall in line. I can't give any more details, because I swore an oath to not tell the secrets of my fraternity. Even now, they have a grip on me.

How am I Supposed to Save This World with No Power?
Wu Li was but a student trapped in a future he did not want when the Portal sought him out to become the Savior of an entire world. However, unlike any beings born in that world, Wu has not a single ounce of power within his body. Worse yet, he's the fourth one that's been summoned in history and he's got massive shoes to fill. How will he overcome his own powerlessness and become the savior that everyone expects him to be? With a beautiful girl acting as his slightly disappointed yet adorable guardian, a smoking hot rivalling bounty hunter from the High societies out to take his head, and countless other encounters along the way, Wu fights on to become the greatest of the four saviors, while seeding this world with...the principles of science. This is a story set in a world with a rich history of the magic power known as the Wave, and all native species are capable of interacting with the Wave to obtain power in a variety of ways. Think of this as a combination of Dr Stone and Black Clover! I am writing this story using similar structures to anime seasons, and the chapters in itself are structured more like manga chapters. The first two seasons are already planned out, and it is likely going to be daily upload (12 noon EST) of chapters from ~ 2 k words in length during the 'season' when there is backlog of chapters, with a week or two of a break in between seasons if no backlog. If you liked this story, please drop a rating and review. If you hated it, please drop a review and help me get better. Don't just spam a 0.5 rating and leave like a coward lol.
8 807The Drifting World
In the year 2104, a brand new VRMMO called The Drifting World is released promising realism, adventure, and freedom like no other. Follow Noah as he builds his character Chemistree, a Treant rogue, and uncovers the mysteries of a destroyed virtual world. Expect guilds, dungeons, skills, stats, and, levels as he progresses through the main story of the game and tries to uncover what secrets the game has to hide. Okay, stereotypical introduction over. This is my first time trying to release a story I've written, so feedback is welcome. The premise is nothing special, I just want to do it well. A lot of similar stories I've read make me ask "what kind of game would work like that?" Sometimes believable gameplay elements give way for a more immersive story, but I hope to make that as balanced as possible rather than going for cheap thrills. Well, I guess we will just see how this goes.

8 174The Chronicles of The Green wizard
Garion Greensleeves always was an oddity. The first son of High-Wizard Garius Greensleeves and Adricor, a Noble woman of well renown, he would of stood to inherit much. However, on the night of his first full moon, as a baby he disappeared from his cot. His parents, after much frantic searching, found the babe crying in a small clearing of trees, a large feline creature pacing defensively around him, the bloodied corpse of a fox resting at its feet. As the parents approached, the beast transformed into a small owl and flew around the clearing before perching on a low branch of a tree nearby. From this moment on Garion's fate had been decided. Only those with magical blood could be capable of calling out to such a being as this. As Garion grew older, the transforming creature remained by his side. Wizards from all the continents visited the glade to see the child who had bound a familiar to his will as a babe. At age seven, Garion left his home glade and travelled the world studying to become a recognised guilded wizard. After many years he was granted the title of Wizard and was sent forth to advise, learn and ponder on behalf of the guild. After a while, Garion was assigned to a small nation within the vast continent mainly populated by man-folk known as The Patchwork kingdoms.
8 74The Fountain At Trident Grove
The town of Trident Grove used to be a thriving port town. It used to be. These days the soil is full of fire ants, the bay is full of Jellyfish, the weather is unforgiving, and the citizens have secrets. Terry wanted a normal everyday life, but on the night of a full moon, he meets a mermaid and sets a string of mistakes in motion. An unending storm, murderous monsters, and death plague the town, and it's all Terry's fault. The story is a bit of a slow burn until Part 2. Any notes of inconsistencies or edits, or even reviews and ratings are greatly appreciated. Chapters update every Monday and Friday at 11 am CST.
