When the school bell rang, I sigh and put my phone in my pocket. I think I sigh too much. I like to think it's because I don't care. I'm just going to stop and pick up Taco Bell. Then I'm going to go home and cry over Nicholas Sparks movies until it's time for bed. Then I'll get up and repeat until I'm dead. This is going to be my life for the next ten years before I cave in and off myself.

"Hey, Sky. What are you doing?" Alex walks up behind me. I stop abruptly and turn towards Alex. "What do you want?"

"Can I talk to you?"

"Go away," I turn and walk towards my car.

"Sky," he whines. " I just wanted to talk to you."

"No."

"Please."

"I said no,"

"I'll follow you home if you don't"

"Stalker, that's weird."

"Not stalking. Desperate is the right word."

"Still weird."

"I want you," he sighs. I set my backpacks down on my hood. "What?"

"I choose you. I want to be with you." I shake my head and unlock my car door. "Geez, really? You choose me? Little old me? How did I ever got so lucky to have Alex Follese choose me! Oh my god!" I put my backpack in the back seat.

"I'm not a fucking second choice, Alex."

"I didn't say you were. I said I choos-"

"I don't care." I get into the driver's seat and put my seat belt on. Alex knocks on the window. "Sky, are you seriously mad that I picked you?"

"I know you picked her first. It wouldn't surprise me if she dumped you and that's why you're here." I turn the engine on and put the car in drive.

My mom opens the bedroom door. "When did you start making friends other than Dan?"

"Who is it, mom?" She shrugs. "Alex. He told me not to tell you."

"Why did you tell me then?"

"So you could brush your teeth."

"Mom!" I whine. "My breath doesn't smell bad and he's not going to kiss me!"

"Right," she rolls her eyes. "Just go talk to the poor kid."

"Whatever," I huff. "You're ruining my life, mom. Most parents try to keep their daughter away from boys. Now you're trying to get me with a boy!"

"I want grandkids, sweetheart and you're the only child left. The baby bells are ringing."

"Mom!" I gag. "Gross!"

"I'm kidding. You get pregnant and I'll find him, hunt him down and take his manhood away. You get pregnant after you get a college education and a job."

"There's a good parenting, finally."

"Ha, ha. Very funny." My mom walks towards the kitchen and I open the front door.

"My mom spilled the beans. No. I'm not surprised," I say, closing the front door. "You're here because I didn't say yes."

"Sky.."

"No.."

"I didn't say anything!" he stomps his foot. "You're being so unfair right now!"

"And you're acting like a five-year old who didn't get the toy he wanted."

"I didn't even pick Scarlett first! Scarlett told me I had to make a decision and I realize I wanted you. What's wrong with that? You're not a second choice!"

"I mean you kissed me and ran. Like, that literally fucking hurt, Alex. I felt like shit for two days because of it."

"I'm sorry, Sky. I didn't mean to kiss you."

"you didn't want to kiss me?"

"No! not like that! I mean, I wanted to kiss you, but I.." He shakes his head. "I wanted to kiss you, but not at that moment."

"Why not?"

"Because I was.. I am with Scarlett and I wanted to kiss you when it was just you and me. I wanted there to be no drama."

"You're still with Scarlett? Are you serious? You're sitting here begging for me when you still have a girlfriend?"

"Sky, stop," he begs. "I'm trying to fix this."

"By cheating?"

"I'm not cheating. She told me to decide!"

"You should just leave, Alex. Go to your girlfriend."

"Sky.." I walk inside and slam the front door.

"Thanks mom!" I yell. God, I'm just pissed off.

"What happened?" My mom pops her head around the corner.

"Next time Alex shows up just leave it!"

"What happened?" She frowns. "What did he say?"

"It doesn't matter," I huff. "I just hate him."

"You don't hate him."

"I do, though."

"Whatever you say, Skylar."
