《The Will Of The Cat》Chapter One: A Start

It was a cloudy, peaceful day in the mountains. With a slight breeze of wind, it was perfect. The current time, 7:30 PM.

This area is the summer getaway for a young boy named Johny. He is quite special. As you can tell he has one "n" in his name instead of the usual two. He is special in a different way though. One you probably wouldn't expect. This young boy has "potential", meaning he could be necessary, and useful. Then there's the off chance that he's just there, useless and in the way of others. But let's not talk about that right now. He has potential as I was saying.

If this holds true then he will be able to prevent a war between the Spirit World and the Human World.

Though not everyone can go around saying that there's gonna be a "fight during lunch", more or less a war going to happen. Not much is known about why a war might happen, or whether it'd be a fair fight or not. Only one being knows, but he's not too keen on sharing his knowledge with just anyone.

This near omniscient being is named Masahiro. A few things are known about him. He is a cat who goes around wearing a bowtie, vest, and a coat, sometimes even a top hat, and carrying a cane. He apparently belonged to an old man who was said to have mysterious powers. The cat somehow gained these abilities and furthered them, learning all there was to learn. The cat stayed with the old man's family and was passed down through the generations, as the cat was practically immortal. No one understands the cat's feelings or knows what he's thinking. This is one of the reasons his knowledge hasn't been shared. The other reasons, if any, are unknown.

He is on his way to meet the young boy. Hopefully they are ready for each other.

The boy lays in the grass under a tree, watching the clouds while his father sits across from him under another tree. Both of them are relaxed and carefree as of now. The father stirs, and then suddenly springs up.

"Seeing as tomorrow's your birthday, there's no harm in showing you now", he stated with a suspicious grin.

He was now leaning over Johny waiting for his reaction.

"What?", Johny said with no reaction as he looked into the sky.

His father then extended his arm out in a gesture to help him up.

"Come on, I'll show you!".

They walked into the middle of a clearing, Johny stretching out a bit.

"What did you want to show me?", Johny asked with a yawn.

His father seemed almost unable to contain his excitement.

"I wanted to show you this", he said lifting up his hand.

A flame appeared

"What?!", Johny exasperated looking at the blaze awestruck.

"How did you...", he began.

"I want to do that!".

"Sorry, but I don't think you can", his father started, lowering his hand.

"It took me months of training before I could even produce a ...", he began explaining before he stopped.

Johny had already lifted both his hands up in the form of a ball, a small flame between them. His father was shocked.

"What?...How? When? Huh?!", his father questioned, completely dumbstruck, almost about to faint.

A small grin appeared on the completely focused face of Johny's.

As if he was now full of confidence, or just trying to show off, the flame expanded and turned a vibrant shade of colors. His father looked like he was about to have a heart attack (or a seizure because of the flashing colors). Taking it one step further, he split the flame into nine separate ones and he outstretched his arms lining them up. He then began shooting them into the sky, the father unable to look anymore defeated, on his knees, leaning back, arms dangling at his sides, and staring blankly into the sky. The flames burst in the sky like fireworks, each one creating a unique design. The father began to regain his consciousness.

A smile appeared on his face, as he stood up he regained his composure. He placed his hand on Johny's shoulder.

"When did you learn how to do this?".

"Which? The fireworks, shooting the fire, or creating the fire?", he asked looking at his dad with a large grin.

"All of it just now after you showed me the fireball", Johny answered.

"Oh wow", his father uttered.

"Fast learner".

"Energy manipulation in general though", his father continued.

"When? How?".

"About six years, though technically four years since I was mostly learning about it those first few years", Johny stated casually.

"Though surprisingly, I've never tried using fire, but then I saw you and... yeah", he concluded.

"I just made the fireworks using what I learned from air. I sent it up using wind and made it disperse by putting air inside the flame", he explained.

"Oh no... This is too much power for someone who's barely turning thirteen tomorrow. What are me and your mother going to do with you?", his father joked.

Johny just chuckled.

"What other techniques do you know?", his father asked.

Johny placed a hand on his chin took a stance of deep thought.

"Hmm, water, air, earth, sound, metal, nature, electricity, and now fire. Oh, wait. I forgot, plastic", he recited.

"Plastic? Who would've thought", the father pondered.

"Well, show me what you got", he challenged taking up a stance.

"What do you mean? You want me to attack you?", Johny questioned.

"Yes, I want to see your abilities and one of the best ways to do that is through combat. Basically you send an attack at me and I either block or counter, then we switch. Do you get it?", his father explained.

"Yeah, seems simple enough", he responded taking a stance.

"Let's go!".

And with that, the actual showcase of Johny's skill began.

An air bullet went flying towards Johny's father who barely blocked using a fire shield. He then counter attacked with a storm of fire arrows. Johny blocked them using small pools of floating water, after which he sent a stone pillar underneath his father who barely jumped out of the way.

"Hey!", he shouted.

"No fair!".

Grass wrapped around Johny's feet as his father sent one large wave of earth hurling towards him. Johny covered his hands in electricity and cut the binds holding his feet, rushing forward into the fray. He cut through the wave and exploded through the other side of it. He instantly condensed the air around his fist and punched inches from his father's face. He slid back a couple of inches, the air in front of him appearing to be like shattered glass. An air shield. They both relaxed now.

"Alright, pretty good. Nice warm up. No more holding back though.", declared the father.

They both jumped away from each other until they were about 100 meters apart. Taking another stance, both of them sent off a flurry of attacks, all of which cancelling the other out. Johny began rushing forward creating a force field made of wind surrounding him. The ground started shaking underneath him and began to crumble, almost tripping him. He barely jumped out of the way into a tree, the miniature hurricane around him dispersing. A fireball immediately hit the base of the tree and set it on fire . Johny jumped to another tree sending hardened leaves towards his father. The leaves burned to a crisp after colliding with a wall of flames. The flames dispersed and the ground under the tree began to split apart. Johny continued rushing forward through the trees, all of which began to sink or topple over. He started sending blasts of water, fire, wind, and electricity forward. After passing about eight trees he hit a wall of wind and the wood started wrapping around his feet.

"Not falling for that again!", Johny shouted as he burst into electricity.

He jumped to the ground and began the final rush towards his father, moving so fast he broke the sound barrier. Dispersing any air around him and leaving only the coat of electricity, he created a ball of condensed sound. Launching the attack forward, he sends electricity into it creating a sonic boom. A large area, about one football field, was destroyed, except for one wall of crumbled stone. A face popped out, one of fear, confusion, and maybe a little bit of pride.

They approached each other with a smirk on their faces.

"Well, that was fun", the father says.

"Yeah, look at all the stuff that was destroyed though. If mom finds out she's gonna be mad".

Both of them looked around now seeing that they basically levelled the whole forest.

"Yeah, but don't worry. I'll fix it later. Let's just go home for now, dinner's probably done", the father replied calmly.

"Alright", he responded.

And with that they both walked off towards the part of the forest that wasn't destroyed. Towards home.

Author here, hi! I was wondering if I should do a bloopers series along with this one, or possibly a scholars version with definitions and such. I don't know though, it's up to you guys. I also need a cover so I'd appreciate it if I somehow got help with that. Same with getting this story out.

I don't know. Hope you enjoyed chapter one! I hope chapter two will be done by next week, we'll see though. Tell me what you thought, and what improvements can be made and all that good stuff. Well, alright then, later!
