《Stonehearst Asylum》Part 1

Ward 11
The day patient 102 awoke from her nightmare. She takes a deep breath and opens her tiring pupils to an unclear sight of her roof, rubbing her eyes gently, waking up her sleepy body to a cold atmosphere. She looks around the four corners of her room clueless, having no recollection of who she was or what happened. A sudden noise like a bang started making its way from the door, she walks towards it surprised like as if she was hearing it for the first time. A beam of brightness shines through the crack of the door as it opens to set her free from the dark walls of her prison like room.
Patient 102 glares at a name on a small badge glued to a uniform of one of the nurses, she can't seem to remember the last time she saw an actual name. As she is staring at the name still, she murmurs "ja-ckie", nurse Jackie turns away from her colleagues and brings her attention towards patient 102 and replies "yes, dear?". Startled by the response, patient 102 finds a corner in the patient lounge and sits facing the plain grey wall infront of her, trying to understand what happened.
After having a long staring contesting with the dull wall, her name gets called to take her medication; "Patient 102!". Patient 102 gets up slowly and walks towards the nurses who are supplying pills for all mentally unstable patients in ward 10 and 11. She lifts her arm and unfolds her palm as a horrid nurse shoves 3 pills onto her hand, with an unpleasant smurk on her face, patient 102 does nothing but slightly smile back with one corner of her lips. She moves towards a table and chugs down all 3 pills with water, rendered by nurse Jackie. Nurse Jackie asks patient 102 for her name to help her bond with the patient and build some kind of trust, so patient 102 wouldn't feel intimated by the nurse. She replies "I don't know", confused nurse Jackie asks her "you don't know your own name?" Pausing for a bit and then asking "what was your name before you became patient 102? Do you remember, sweetie?"

Feeling overwhelmed by the questions, patient 102 leaves nurse Jackie's sight, rushing like the wind back to her room. She crawls down with her knees tucked in touching her stomach, arms wrapped around her knees as she rocks back and forth, eyes wondering about what nurse Jackie asked. She felt exhaustion from the meds like she's about to doze off so soon; her eyes shaking, her head feeling heavy, her body going numb, all she could think now was if she was going to survive this random side affect, she keeps telling herself "am I dying?! Am I..." as everything goes blurry and dark.
Nurse Jackie asks chief of staff if she could be transfered from ward 10 to ward 11, to bond with a certain patient who keeps running away from her questions; saying "I think it's best for me to form a positive relationship with a Jane doe patient to help her find herself and understand what she's currently going through". Despite being rejected by chief of staff due to low staff ratio in ward 10, nurse Jackie would try and visit patient 102 's room, although, patient 102 would refuse to let her in majority of the times.
Few days went by, nurse Jackie came and stood infront of patient 102 ' s door, raising one of her arms, hand curled into a fist, waiting to put pressure on her knuckles through knocking, before letting the warden open the door from the outside, beside her. When the door opens she sees patient 102 with an unexpected expression on her face, her brows frowning, her cheeks risen, her eyes red as blood, gazing at the rough, rusty floor, biting her bottom lip. Patient 102 then begins to look up at nurse Jackie while she struggles to say a word.

Nurse Jackie interferes "I know this may seem quite inappropriate to you, but I'm here to help that's all, sweetie. I don't want you to feel like you're being pressured at all. If you want me to leave for good, just say so and I won't bother you anymore" after a long pause patient 102 builds up very small courage to ask "why?" to which nurse Jackie replies "because you're special. You probably heard this a dozen times, only because it's true. You're special and I feel like I can somehow contribute in getting back what you have lost".
Accepting support from nurse Jackie, patient 102 gives a warm tender smile telling herself that she may have gained a potential guardian angel who will actually help her. She then starts to feel a tad comfort around nurse Jackie, moving to her and attempting to hug as a gratitude towards her, nurse Jackie opens her arms for patient 102, holding her tight with warmth as if she's safe. "Thank you" says 102, "I haven't done anything yet, sweetie." exposing her clear bright teeth as Jackie smiles, while they try and figure out her name.
Nurse Jackie goes into the storage basement where all the patient files are kept, she starts to look up on all the files that are classified or unknown, and also tries to find out any electronic documents on patients who have entered the Stonehearst Asylum earlier this year, her eyes filled with curosity, trying not to get caught as she rushes her fingers through the files leading to a papercut.
As luck was running out she stumbled across a small file which didn't have a picture, but had the name 'Julia D. Harris, patient number: 102' although, Jackie wasn't sure if it was actually patient 102, so she looked further into the file, as her heart begins to race a little, her eyes catch the description which matched patient 102, however, the information didn't match at all about her mental stability; 'Julia has suffered a great loss of a dear one which caused her to develop a split personality disorder in order to get away from pain...' nurse Jackie wasn't convinced this was patient 102, but it was the only clue she had in finding anything out about 102. She hesitantly hides the file under her uniform trying not to expose it, so she can continue reading the rest of it at home.

Luck And Chronomancy
Time Magic is the best magic as everyone knows, although there are lots of unique Talents in the world. Most people only remember Haste because it is hard to get to higher Phases of Chronomancy. That is still enough to make the Talent iconic. A lucky enough Aleatory Talent can position you for greatness or leave you languishing in obscurity. The only true equality in the world is when that glowing message pops up at 8 years old. Even if it doesn't activate until you are an adult at 16 you still know. Sure you can find a new dungeon spawn and get another chance at a rare Talent, even this one, but you have to already be ready to delve into the *Far Wilds*, which is far easier with wealth or family power. This is the story of where my good fortune took me and the difference it made, even among a party of 7 others including an Arcanist. It is a journey of magic and monsters but also math, which some think is actually worse. Luckily I was born with Intelligence and Focus as my personal traits, and my parents were scholars. Of course Chronomancy can also be a frontline combat talent. Versitility well beyond other Elder Talents like Gravity, Abstraction, or Arcana. Might could have worked for me, too. I also met a runaway princess. All the best adventures have a princess. She hated being a noble and we didn't get married but it still counts. Besides she really filled out our front line. All that Leadership training came in handy. I still don't know where she's from. Who cares? How well Haste goes with giant hammers is what's important. I never learned much about anyone in the party, except the one I grew up with. I'm not a people person. I just wanted to optimize dungeon clearing time. *******Story Details******* No romance, politics, or traumatizing content, slice of life, or even dialogue. 1st person narration, like a guide/adventure log. 2000-7000 words a day, maybe 40-60% rpgish combat log with some reasoning on combat decisions, with the rest character Talent discussion and progression stuff. 8 person party with a decent variety in roles. Party members usually have 2 primary functions. Told from the support/control Chronomancer's perspective. Each party member will have 6 Basic/Background Traits, then 3 actual Talents with abilities. Capstone from their Educational Institution, Arbritrary as a gift from the temples, and Aleatory which is decided at birth, revealed at 8, and activated after adulthood at 16. Aleatory Traits ignore requirements and are random why is why they are so important. They'll gain new Talents from finding Dungeons to consume in the *Wilds*. Mature dungeons in cities can provide *Challenges* to raise the Phase of a Talent, up to 3 times from 1 to 4. Each character will get to roughly 8 non-Trait Talents. Attributes come exclusive from Talents, are required by Talents, and provide various effects as well. I designed about 220 Talents with abilities, 4 in each of 4 phases. "Traits" are just Attribute stuff. I'm not sure how many will be detailed in the story, more than 100 for sure. I used Talents because I want to be free of the legacy of tabletop. Half those rules are just because of the limitations inherent in a pre-computer ttrpg. This story mostly uses combat Talents, although like 1/3 of the 220 are for crafting and other society and economy stuff. If you really wanted to be a Thief you might take Intuition, Awarness, and Might for Basic Traits and Deftness, Manipulation, and Trickery for Family/Education. Then you'd pick Acrobatics, and Climbing for Educational Capstone and Arbitrary traits. You Aleatory Trait might be Shadow(Light/Dark) Magic, Umbramancy. A Bard might swap Dexterity for Charisma, Music for Acrobatics, and have gotten Illusion(Shadow/Sound(Air/Force)) for their Aleatory Trait.
