I wake up with a banging to my door.

"Lena, get up, someone is here to see you." Alex says through the door.

"I'll be out in a minute." I say and head to the bathroom to brush my teeth. Who could it be this early?

I wash my face and finish brushing my teeth. I am too lazy to change clothes so these shorts will do. I go out into the living room to see Melanie and Alex drinking tea.

"Hey there darling. I figured I'd stop by." She says getting up.

"Hey. How are you?" I say hugging her.

"I'm okay. I wanted to see you and maybe spend some time with you. The last time we got brunch was ages ago." She says

"That would be nice. Alex would you like to join us?" I ask him.

"No, I'll stay here. I'll go get some groceries and get some work done from the living room." He says

"Okay, go get changed and we'll head out right away." She says looking at her watch. I nod and leave those two in the living room.

What to wear what to wear...hmm. I could go wear something nice since Melanie is dressed up. Like always. I check the time finally and see that it is in fact almost 12am. No wonder they were chatting so carelessly. I would too. Why did I sleep in so much? This isn't usually like me.

I decided I'll wear some light colours today. It is fairly hot these days but the city will always be a bit colder. I put one of my shirts I have in multiple colours. I can't seem to find my green shirt. I wanted to wear that one to bring some pop of colour but it's not anywhere. I guess I left it in England. I put her necklace on because it matched my outfit and because I don't care anymore. I tightened my other necklace and made it look like they are stacked there of purpose. I put on some simple earrings and my favourite chanel watch.

I walk out and Melanie's eyes light up as she looks me up and down.

"You look amazing honey." She says getting up.

"Thank youu." I say

"Now, I figured we'll take my car. I'll drive of course." She says

"Whatever you say boss." She laughs at that.

"Have fun." Alex says and hugs me.

"I will, I hope you won't get bored in here." I say

"I won't. I have an Audi Q7 in the garage remember." He says smiling at me.

"Right. I forgot about that part. Well, enjoy yourself." I say and Melanie and I walk out the apartment.

We decided to go to a more private place. There we won't get looked at strangely and there we can actually enjoy our meal. Melanie is very popular here in New York. We sit down at our table and order a whole bunch of food.

"It looks like you lost some weight" Melanie says

"I have actually. I guess at the stress got to me in the end." I say

"I'm sorry to hear that. Is there anything I can do to help?" She asks

"No but thank you."

"I got a phone call from a special someone last night." She says smiling at me.

"Who?" I ask

"Scarlett."

"She is your daughter Melanie." I say and she giggles.

"It was about youu." She says

"About me?" I ask

"Well don't act so surprised. Colin saw you and Alex last night and told her." She says

"And? What did she say?" I ask

"She firstly asked me if I know who Alex is. I know you mentioned him, but I doubted he was more than a friend. Then she asked me if you and I spoke and I told her yes. She asks about you from time to time." She says

"Good thing Alex said yes to a double date then." I say sourly

"He did what?" Melanie asks

"He fucking said yes when Colin offered for the four of us to go on a double date. No wonder he thought we were dating." I say

"Maybe that is a good thing." She says

"Don't tell me you agree with Alex." I say in disbelief.

"Well yeah. Maybe then you can finally see the ick all of us have when it comes to Collin."

"What is that about? I actually think Colin is nice." I say.

"He promotes my daughters eating disorder. You know how she is when it comes to food. When you two were close she ate voluntarily. Now she eats once a day, sometimes twice."

"What? I didn't know about that." I say

"Yeah well there is more. I think she has regretted saying yes to him that day. She got pregnant and now they want to hurry on with the wedding. Because his parents believe that he is a virgin." She says

"She's pregnant?" I ask

"Yeah. I thought you could talk to her. She listens to you best." She says

"Speaking of." She says as her phone rings. She shows me her phone to show that Scarlett is indeed calling.

"Hello honey." She answers.

"I'm at brunch with a friend why?"

"Do you want me to pick her up later?"

"I can always spend some time with my Rosie."

"Fine. I'll be there in an hour. Bye." She hangs up and puts down her phone.

"We'll have Rose joining us. Is that a problem?" She asks

"No, I don't mind really."

"Great. She told me that there is an interview that she needs to go to and her assistant is no where to be seen. She is freaking out so I thought I'll help out."

"What is it with her and her assistants." I say

"After you she changed about 20 at this point."

"I bet that office is run through now." I say giggling.

"What office?" She asks

"The one at her house. She told me her assistants work in there."

"She never mentioned an office." She says

"Well I had one."

"Oh, she gave you her office." She says giggling.

"What?" I ask

"Well she only has one office in the entire house. She gave you her's." She says

"Why would she do that?" I ask

"Maybe you should ask." She says

"Right.."

"I'm serious. You two should just sit down and talk it out." She says

We finish our meals and I go to pay. Melanie stops me and hands me back my card. She and I go to her car and she drives away. I guess I forgot that we had to pick Rose up. We're headed to Scar's place. This should be interesting. We pull up to her house and get out of the car. I adjust my shirt and trousers and Melanie gives me a weird look.

"You'll be fine." She says patting me on the back.

Melanie rings the doorbell and soon after footsteps are heard. Rose answers he door.

"Granny!" She yells and runs to Melanie.

Melanie picks her up and hugs her tight.

"Rose didn't I tell you not to answer the door without my permission" Scarlett says

"Sorry mommy." She says and buries her head into Melanie's neck.

"Hey Scarlett" I say and she is caught off guard.

"Uh.. um.. Hello Lena." She says looking between Melanie and I.

"You look gorgeous by the way." I say looking at her.

"Thank you." She says blushing.

"How about you and I go to see if there is anything you want to bring with you today?" Melanie asks Rose and they walk into the house.

"What are you doing here?" She asks leaning on the door frame.

"We're pickin Rose up."

"Wait, so you were the friend at brunch?" She asks and I nod.

"How was England?" She asks

"It was good. I had a lot of work over there but I got it done in no time."

"Why didn't you tell you were invited to the buckingham palace by the queen?" She asks

"I guess it never came up." I say

"Right, I forgot about the last time we talked." She says looking away.

"Hey, it is alright." I say

"Did my mother tell you?"

"Tell me what?" I ask

"I'm pregnant." She says looking down at her hands.

"She mentioned it yes. But it's not like it has anything to do with me. I mean I'm happy for you." I say

"Yeah..It was silly of me to be afraid of your reaction." She says

"How long do you know?" I ask

"Over a month now." She says

"That's great." I force out.

"How are you? Are you healed?" She asks me

"I'm good. I'm finished with all the check ups and stuff"

"I heard from Chris you had a new project in mind." She says

"Ah.. I'll kill that man one day." I say and she laughs

"Yeah, everything is complete with the planning we just need to execute it." I say

"We?" She asks clasping her hands together.

"Alex and I. He brought this idea to me and then we sort of developed it together." I say and her face hardens at the mention of him.

"Great. Is is in a war country again?" She asks hopeful

"No it is not. We are moving it to Italy." I say

"When will you leave?" She asks

"We'll be here for August and September, that we know for sure. The rest is still in the dark." I lie

"Well I'm glad. Colin mentioned he saw you two last night. I was surprised. I thought you would tell me if you were back." she says

"I changed phone numbers. I forgot to tell you." I say

"...oh" She says looking away.

"Is everything okay?" I ask

"Everything is great. I should head out. Enjoy your day." She says

"You too. Good luck." I say to her and she stands awkwardly in front of me. I open my arms and she just falls into me.I hold her tight as her hands clasp behind me. We stay in that position for a few seconds. Just enjoying each others presence. She clears her throat and separates from me.

"I should really get going." she says

"Of course." I say and she walks by me.

Melanie and I spent a big chunk of the day playing with Rose. I suggested we go see the new aquarium them recently opened. Rose was so thrilled that she wanted to hold my hand while we walked there. She's nice with me and she even remembers me. I was flattered obviously. I mean she is the cutest thing ever.

"Look at the dolphins Rose." I say pointing to the big glass in front of us.

"Can you pick me up? I can't really see." She says

"Is that okay with you?" I ask her

"Yes! Now pleaseee" She says excited.

I hand my purse to Melanie and put the little girl on top of my shoulders. I hold her legs and she holds herself still by my head. Melanie looks at us amused and laughs while taking pictures. We stopped by a cart where they sell stuffed animals. Because Rose was mostly interested in turtles and dolphins I got her a big stuffed turtle. She loved it. Then we took a break to get something to eat. The little girl got more comfortable with me and started to talk my ear off while we walked. She would whisper into my ear and hold on tight as I carried her on my shoulders.

It was already 7 pm and my time to part with Rose and her wonderful grandmother. I hugged Melanie and gave a big hug to Rose too. She got angry that I had to leave but Melanie promised her she would see me soon again. That calmed her and she gave me a kiss on the cheek.

I walked into my apartment with the biggest smile on my face. I had so much fun today with the little girl that I couldn't contain it. I walk into the living room to see that Alex has fallen asleep with his laptop in hand. I put down the things onto the coffee table and I dim the lights. I take off his reading glasses and fetch a blanket to cover him. Once I'm done I go to take a shower.

I get a call from an unknown number.

"Uh, hello?" I answer.

"Oh hey, sorry if I'm bothering I just wanted to say thank you." Scarlett says though the phone.

"What for?" I ask

"Rose had lots of fun today and mom told me it was mainly because of you. She loves her stuffed turtle, she even fell asleep with it." She says

"I'm glad I could help."

"Would you like to go out for lunch with me?" She asks

"Like on a date?" I say smirking.

"Yeah. well...no...not like...that..but" She stutters

"I'm kidding Scar. What time and where?" I say

"How about friday, noon?" She offers.

Thats in three days.

"Sure. Fine with me."

"Excellent. I'm glad to hear that." She says

"How was your interview?" I ask

I don't want her to hang up yet. I would like to have a conversation with her first.

"It was great. No sexist questions were asked. It was chill." She says

"That's good to hear." I say

"How's Alex?" huh? Did I hear that correctly?

"He's fine. He fell asleep on the couch in the living room" I say giggling.

"Don't you have guest bedrooms?" She asks

"I do, he fell asleep while doing some work." I explain.

"What does he do?" She asks

Why is she so invested in Alex all of a sudden.

"His family owns a huge company." I say

"So he's an heir just like you?" She asks

"Yeah. He is. Why do you ask?" I ask her.

"Oh no reason. I was just curious. I saw some articles and thought he was someone else." She says

"You out of all people should know those things lie every now and then." I say

"Yeah. I really should huh?" She says giggling.

"Oh I have to go. Colin just got home." she says

"Okay. It's no problem."

"Good night Lena." she says

"Good night Scar, sweet dreams." I say and hang up.
