《My famous boss (gxg)》Chapter 37

"Hey, I got all of the press shit out of the way. They won't be bothering us anymore." Marcus says over face time.
"That's great. How is everything going on there. It's been two days since you left." I say
"I was busy. I'm sorry for not giving feedbacks. Did you think about the project Mr. Dentré brought in?" He asks
"Yeah. I read through all of the files and if I'm being honest I like it. It doesn't seem like he has a hidden motive and besides we can always back up if we see something sketchy." I say walking around my office.
"That is true. Are you expecting anyone" He asks
"I'm expecting his call. I told him to call me in two days and I even gave him my card. Maybe he gave up on the offer?" I say
"Don't overthink it, maybe he's just busy with work. I think you should know out of all people what it can be like when you have so much to do." He says
"How do you know things about him?" I ask
"I googled him and turns out he has a family company just like you. It is located somewhere in Ireland. He is not the boss like you. His father practically owns the company but Alex is their business man. He studied at Harvard and has a PhD in law." Marcus reads from his laptop.
"Wow, so he's not only good looking huh?" I say
"Oooh that is what this is about. You like him don't you?"
"Marcus get a hold of yourself. He and I had conversation for about 15 minutes. How could I like him just like that?" I say
"Love at first sight perhaps?" He says
"You know that doesn't exist right?"
"Mmhm you keep trying to convince yourself. We both know you felt butterflies when you first met you know who."
"So what if I did? It doesn't mean that I liked her then." I say
"But that also doesn't mean you don't love her now."
"And I'm hanging up." I say
"Wait wait. Have you talked with her?" He asks
"No. I haven't and I don't plan on doing that any time soon." I say
"Whyyy" he wines
"Because Marcus she and I just don't, we can't exist together in that way." U say
"It's either that or you feel attached to the feeling of loneliness." He says
"I have to go."
"See my friend is a runner. You run from your problems dear. How about you take it in for a minute?" He states.
"Marcus.."
"Fine fine. I won't be a bother anymore. I just care for you Lena. You're self sabotaging." he hangs up and I sit down. I feel my head heavy. Like his words reached it and now it's too much to carry.
Am I like that? I mean I don't want to ruin my own happiness but if we look if from a different way there was nothing to sabotage. My life was always boring. To some it could be also considered sad. I have people I care for but no one who will stay there for the long run. I don't want to have someone to break my heart with the possibility of maybe fixing it. The risk is too high. I want to love someone with my entire being and I think I had that. I loved her and I still do. I think I always will. She touched my heart without me even feeling it.

She'll never have a place for me in her's though. As long as Colin in inside I am locked out. I can't get in nor am I trying if we're being honest. She's a fire. A real dangerous fire. She can heat me up and light up my entire body with chills and lust, however if you get too close you can get burned. If you don't try to watch out. There is nothing wrong with that or her. She is someone I find perfectly flawed. She is perfect in my eyes. I find sympathy with her even when I don't want to. Thats what my definition of love always was. Accepting someone just the way they are. I didn't even try to accept her. I guess it was faith or something.
I get out of my trance by my business phone ringing. I see the caller id and it's unknown.
"Lena Adams speaking, how may I help you." I say
"Hello, It's Alex Dentré, we talked in person. I was wondering if you considered the project?" He says uncertain.
"I have and I talked with some of my team and they also like the idea. It would be a great concept." I say
"That's wonderful! When can we meet to discuss the game plan?" He asks
"There is an amazing restaurant very close to my workplace. I can send you the address and we can talk over dinner?" I offer.
"That would be great. I'm looking forward to hearing from you again." he says and hangs up.
I shake off the weird feeling and pack my things. I sent over the address and he sent back a smiley face. I walk out of the office to see that it is almost empty. I guess the work day is over. I don't go by the clock. It upsets me so when I am finished with work for the day that is when I go home. Sometimes it is 10 pm, other times even 2.
I arrive home and quickly head to the bathroom to shower. I need to refresh myself before I go to this dinner. I need to look elegant because the place I chose is nothing but top notch. I finish my shower in no time and decide to use my dyson air wrap. That thing saves me time and effort to do my hair. I finish my hair and then get on with my makeup. I like to put eye liner because I have round eyes. It goes well with the eye shape so I just do that most of the time.
I finish my hair and makeup and find a black dress. It stops on my mid thigh. The dress has sher sleeves and I honestly look great in it. I paired the dress with some black red bottoms and made some finishing touches.
I drove to the restaurant and checked the time. I'm only 10 minutes late. Thank god. I thought I was going to be way more than that. I get inside and find him already sitting at the table. He wore a black shirt and some dark green trousers. He looked so dashing from his side profile.
"Hello I'm sorry I'm late." I say
"Oh don't worry about it. Please sit." He says standing up. I sit down in the chair and he pushes it in.
"Would you want to order right away or start with some wine?" He offers
"I'm hungry so can we do drinks later?" I ask
"No problem miss." He says smiling at me.

The waiter comes and we decide we'll order a bottle of wine with dinner. He returns with the glasses and the wine and we start to talk about the project. he seems so excited and honestly passionate about the project. I can feel my heart flutter because I've never seen anyone describe their project with such passion, none other than me. His eyes light up when he remembers a detail and I find it interesting how that conventionally attractive man that looks rude, seems to be the nicest person ever.
"Oh I'm sorry I talk a lot when I feel a passion for something." He says and sips on his wine.
"Don't worry. I didn't find it distasteful. On the contrary I liked it." I smile at him.
"So tell me about your last and biggest project yet." He requests
"That would probably be the one I did in Palestine."
"Really? Now that is impressive. I mean I knew you went there. It was everywhere. I don't quite know the details."
"Well long story short I was supposed to spend two months in Palestine helping the citizens of their country. You know the're being attacked by Israeli forces and almost everyone is turning a blind eye. So, I decided I'll try and make a change there. Even if it's 1%."
"Wait you were supposed to? How long did you stay there in the end?" He asks intrigued.
"Four months."
"Wow. Now that is.. wow. I really admire your work ethic."
"Thank you."
The food arrives and our conversation gets cut short. While eating he brings out some papers for me to look at and we chat about that for the rest of the dinner. I didn't want dessert neither did he so we went to pay. The both of us. He gave his metal card and I gave my regular. I don't spend that money that carelessly. The waiter took his card after her bribed him with a £50 note.
"Not fair you know." I say as we walk to the exit.
"I wasn't going to let you pay. No way." He said putting on his black suit jacket. Now that we're both on our feet I can finally notice what he wore completely.
"Would you like to take a walk? I know a great ice cream place just 5 minutes from here." He says.
"Sure. I'd like that."
We walk alongside chatting still. I have to admit he is so like me. He and I come from the same kind of family. Only difference is that his family it not deceased. One thing that is very obvious is that he is very tall. I am up to his shoulder and I'm wearing heels.
"Are you cold?" He asks
"No I'm good." I say and we walk into the ice cream place.
I ordered chocolate and raspberry and he ordered strawberry and coffee. Weird mix but okay. We walk out and find a park to sit down.
"Tell me more about yourself." He requests.
"What do you want to know?"
"Do you have any siblings?" He asks
"I used to have a sister. She died the same night as my mum." I say
"oh my I totally forgot about that. My apologies ms Adams." He says
"It's fine. I accept your apologies, just don't call me ms. We're colluege's. Please, call me Lena." I offer
"If that so you can then call me Alex." He says smiling at me.
"Alright, Alex."
The wind starts to blow and I start to shiver.
"How about we start walking back to our cars?" I offer
"Are you cold?" He asks
"Kind of, yes." I say turning my head away from him.
"Here. If I may?" He asks and I nod as he puts his suit jacket over my shoulders.
"Thank you." I say
"You're welcome."
We stayed on that bench for longer than I thought we would. We looked at the stars and I laughed. He's very funny and kind. I have a good feeling about him. I check the time to see that it is almost half past 12.
"Wow we really lost track of time." I say looking at my watch.
"We should head back so we can get up early in the morning." He says
He offers a hand for me to get up and lets it go just as I am on my feet. I like that he respect boundaries. I don't think I've met too many people who can do that.
"Thank you for accepting the offer. I can't wait to attack this project and do it with you." He says as we walk back to our cars.
"And thank you for having such a wonderful idea."
"I think the two of us will get along. I find sympathy with you and I can tell we're very alike." He says
"I think so too."
We walk to our cars in comfortable silence. I've learned a few things about him tonight and he seems like an actual good guy. He walks me back to my car as a safety precaution.
"Good night Lena." He says
I take off his jacket and hand it back to him.
"Thank you for this." I say smiling at him.
It's dark out. I can only see half of his face from the street lamp. He takes my hand into his and kisses it softly.
"I had a great time." He says
"So did I. Good night Alex." I say and get into my car. He takes a step back and waits for me to back out. He raises a hand and waves and I wave back. I needed this. I truly needed this night. I didn't think of her for the entire night. I felt so carefree while talking and laughing with Alex.
I get inside and almost immediately the light of the living room turns on.
"Where were you this late?" Miriam asks
"Jesus you scared me." I jump.
"You look very beautiful." She says patting the space on the couch next to her.
"Thank you Miriam." I say and sit down on the couch next to her.
"I was out on a business dinner." I say
"This late?" She asks
"Well we had a great conversation and he offered to get ice cream. So we talked a bit more and sat in the park. He gave me his jacket and we just lost track of time." I say leaning my head on her shoulder.
"He seems nice. Is this one of your new projects?" She asks
"Yes. He's the one that came up with it." I say
"That's great sweetheart. Are you tired?"
"Yeah, but I don't want to move, not yet at least." I say snuggling close to her.
"Then we'll stay here for a little while longer." she says and kisses my head.

CW: Contains mildly graphic scenes of violence/death, topics of unwanted pregnancy/abortion, scientific experimentation on sapient beings, depression/suicide, grief, and trauma. The tone of this fiction is often dark and distinctly dystopian in lighter shades of Margaret Atwood, though where there is darkness there is always hope and light. On Hiatus Until September When the School Year Begins and Mom This story takes a considerable amount of time and mental energy to complete. I thought I had enough backlog and time to post it as a serial while COVID kept my child home from school, but it turns out while I can quickly write other pieces, I cannot produce the quality I need with this one at an acceptable rate. We'll resume in September when my days are much freer. Thank you for your patience and stay tuned for a different storytelling romp more suited for a serial platform in the meantime.

Using an ancient teleportation spell, he and his siblings were sucked into a portal leading to God-knows-where. In a foreign place far from home, Luz carries the burden of disobeying his ancestors and losing his younger brothers. He sets off to reunite his siblings and slay the dragon that destroyed their village while only being equipped with one useless space spell that drains all his mana after one usage. Author's note: English isn't my first language and this is the first novel I tried writing, which is why some of the earlier chapters aren't that good, even though I grew better over time. I'm still in the phase of editing a lot of my earlier chapters. But unfortunately, I haven't yet found any time for it. Daily updates are to be expected till we reach chapter 100. If your comment motivates me, I might upload up to five chapters.^^
