《Cypress》tom riddle on the brain (i will swat him like a fly)

i was rewatching the deathly hallows and yk something that's always bothered me is voldemort's total cluelessness on the ownership of the elder wand?? i feel like so much of the purpose (or should be anyway) of dh is to prove voldemort's mortality and humanness despite all he's done to become the opposite and yet in that movie he feels completely detached from his "human" self aka tom... like ur telling me tom riddle, the most annoyingly academic self-obsessed head boy in the world, didn't remember that a wand's ownership changes when it's won by someone via disarming, not when the previous owner is killed?? absolutely not. that seems like super basic information. like, unless the point was to show his arrogance getting the best of him? but ???? i doubt that was the intention and it still feels lazy.

au where he knew draco had won the elder wand on the astronomy tower and just k words him and it belongs to him and he has to be bested by harry regardless. somehow. i'm not saying i hate draco so much i want him to die but his arc was abandoned halfway anyway and it's what tom would do!! it's not like hp was past killing kids at that point cmon😭😭😭 plus the scene where snape dies can still happen but voldemort doesn't look so dumb in it. he can kill snape for betraying him and it gives him smart antagonist points. the end
