《Nebula's Echo (a Naruto Fanfic)》Chapter 24

Ohohooo hello~
So sorry it took so long! School is just another word for torture facility. Why do they have to pile me with so much work T^T
Well, here's another chapter peeps, enjoy~
I slowly walked through the city, using the civilian roads for once. Honestly, the feeling was similar to what I imagine it being for the tigers and snakes etc at the zoo. I let out a sigh.
Can't a girl just visit a bookstore and buy a socially shunned book in peace?!
The people I passed all froze and stared at me as if obsessed, not recovering until I had completely left their sight. I was getting irritated.
And this, kids, is why you use the roofs! Screw ninja politeness, it isn't worth being ogled for!
My eyebrows scrunched together as I started cussing at myself in my mind for being so naive. What polite, ah? I SHOULD HAVE JUST FREAKIN' GONE BY THE ROOFS.
But, too late for regrets. Plus...
I looked up and saw my goal. The bookstore Kakashi-sensei recommended for me. My lips stretched into a satisfied smile at finally reaching my destination, but the gasps and aww sounds made my smile completely drop. I humphed and walked into the bookstore.
It wasn't big. Compared to the libraries in my last life, this is nothing. But then again, my last world CREATED Naruto, soo...
It's not even a fair competition.
My eyes wandered the selves before flicking over the one I was looking for. My eyes lit up and I skipped towards the shelf. The other customers were eyeing me with weird looks, but the blushes on their faces from seeing my appearance dampened the impact of their questioning judgement. But I couldn't care less about their judgement.
Move aside mortals! Juubi coming through!
I looked at the shelf and giggled. A weird, suspicious giggle. At the same time, my eyes started inspecting the choices laid out before me. Really, it was a hard choice.
Earlier, when Kakashi and I had the bet about who would be stuck with dinner-duty, Kakashi won. Duh. I obviously held back. What, did you think I, a genin, was dumb enough to beat Kakashi, one of the strongest jounin and future Hokage, in a race of speed? Na ah, you've underestimated my intelligence! I was going to lose anyways.
But, Kakashi's impersonation of a worm, that he displayed later, made me honestly-to-god impressed. Like, really, really impressed. It reminded me of a certain Sokka in a certain best-series-in-the-world. So, since that minor mortal managed to peak my, oh the almighty juubi's, interest, I decided to grant him another favor. And he only asked for one thing...
For me to read, learn and love the icha-icha book series!
I, of course, take my vows very seriously! So immediately after Kakashi left, I abandoned my teammates with a fire-breathing Sakura to come and fulfill my promise.
Sorry, my cushion for not protecting you! Don't worry, I'll make it up to you one day!
And now that, is another promise. I nodded my head resolutely, standing like that before the bookshelf for a good half minute before resuming my browsing of the books. On the bright side though, I was going to try out icha-icha either way, so Kakashi just made me speed up my timeline. I picked out a book and flipped through the pages, my pupils following at maniac speed.
Hmm, not bad. Some good quality smut, even... Jiraiya, I have wronged you. But my eyes have opened now.
I closed the book with reverence, before slowly closing my eyes, sending my deepest apologies to the gods.

I shall never look down upon Jiraya's writing ability. Even his peeping wasn't for naught!
One of my hands slowly lifted, then formed a fist of determination as two streams of tears fell from my long, lush lashes. Slowly my eyelashes fluttered open and I looked at the sky with a wronged expression.
But why god, oh why.... WHY IS THERE NO BL?! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!
I stood there at the bookstore, looking at the roof with tears running down my face, my soul crying out in agony.
"Kankuro, back off. You're a disgrace to our village."
The raspy voice was quiet, indifferent, but carried with it a dark and sinister undertone. All the people present gasped, looking at the speaker in shock. That was after all, an insult one should not utter. Ever.
"H-hey, Gaara." A kid in a all-black suit with a hood of sorts covering his head and purple lines forming patterns on his face spoke with a nervous tone, his voice faltering. He had a smile on his face, but it was obviously forced, his body trembling ever so slightly.
If one were to look closer, they would notice the headband he had around his forehead. The symbol on it was different from that of the leaf-shinobi; it looked remotely like the letter i, and signified the sand village.
Next to the boy stood a girl, her headband having the same symbol on it. Her spike dirty-blond hair was put into four buns? Ponytails? Who knows. She was wearing a white long sleeved dress that reached her knees, and underneath it she had a fishnet shirt. A red belt was tied snugly around her waist. Basic ninja shoe-wear, her headband wrapped around her neck and a giant fan fastened on her back.
The girl's wide eyes were staring at another boy, fear evident in her gaze. But she wasn't the only one. Naruto, Sakura, Konohamaru and his team members were all present, staring at the boy hanging from a tree branch, their eyes expressing their shock.
He had appeared suddenly, not a sound made to warn them of his presence. On another branch on the same tree, sat Sasuke. He too, was staring at the red-head, his eyes calculating. To be so fast and so quiet, it could only be achieved by a jounin level shinobi...
The Uchiha's onyx black eyes never faltered, observing the sand shinobi's every move, his face taunt. Sasuke Uchiha was feeling threatened.
"Have you forgotten the reason we came all the way here?"
The raspy voice was creepy, to say the least. The last sand shinobi, the one standing upside down on a tree branch, was by far the most intimidating out of all the genin present. He had pale, almost sickly skin and hair as red as blood. He didn't have any eyebrows, but the kanji for love was tattooed in red on the side of his forehead. His light turquoise eyes were rimmed in black, making him look slightly like a panda...
Anyhow, he was wearing dark brown loose pants, and a matching t-shirt. Underneath he wore a fishnet shirt with sleeves that reached his elbow. His calves were wrapped in bandages, the basic ninja shoe-wear on his feet. He had a white cloth hanging stylishly from his torso and a thick brown belt hanging of his hips. His headband was fastened to the belt, and on his back was a giant...gourd?
All in all, the dead look in his eyes, his raspy voice and killer aura was more than enough to make people wet their pants on sight.

The boy dressed in black, Kankuro, swiftly turned to answer Gaara, not daring making the other wait.
"I-i know, I m-mean, they challenged u-us first! They started the whole thing really, see here's what happened..."
Kanguro was giving the Konoha genin "looks", hinting at them being the ones who started it. All the while, he was still absentmindedly rubbing his wrist where Sasuke had hit him with a pebble.
But before he could continue with his recounting of the day's events, he was interrupted.
"Shut up."
The raspy voice was now containing a veiled threat, making all the kids break out into a cold sweat. Kankuro flinched at the threatening tone directed at him.
"Or I'll kill you."
The death threat rolled casually off the murderous genin's tongue. Kankuro caved under the pressure, muttering apologies and admittance of guilt. Gaara ignored him, slowly turning his head to face Sasuke.
"I apologize...for any trouble he caused."
The apology didn't sound sincere at all. Not. At. All. But Sasuke didn't care. He was staring into Gaara's eyes, his facial expression wary. He knew, that this was someone to not underestimate. He could feel it.
While Sasuke was studying Gaara, the red-head was doing the same to him. The Uchiha had stopped his teammate with a pebble, and made it look easy. He wasn't simple...
The two looked at each other for the longest time, the pressure in the air making it hard for their teammates on the ground to breathe. But suddenly, a voice so enchanting it left everybody in a daze sounded.
"Gaara... finally."
In a flash of glittering white, Gaara was tackled. It took a moment for everyone to snap out of the daze the voice had put them in, and when they did, their jaws dropped.
Gaara was being embraced. A petite girl with a slender, soft figure was hugging him tightly, her arms wrapping securely around his neck and her face buried into his shoulder. While they couldn't see her face, the sand shinobi were still struck by the beauty of her back view. Not only did her body look ideal, soft and skin practically luminous, her hair was long, glittering white and billowing in a nonexistent breeze. They just couldn't look away.
Gaara was shocked too, but for a completely different reason. His sand... it wasn't stopping her. His eyes were wide, almost falling out, and boring holes into the girl that was holding him. He was feeling very confused. Her touch made him feel things he had never felt before. He felt so warm, so safe... and Shukaku calmed down. Gaara was feeling faint, completely overwhelmed by the sensations.
She made Shukaku calm down? My sand isn't stopping her?! What is this feeling I get in her presence?!?!
Gaara's eyes were flicking around, raking over the girl in anxiousness, wanting answers. But he couldn't bare to do anything to her, so he forced himself to calm down and wait for her to let go.
Slowly, his teammates also snapped back into reality and realized what he had realized; the sand! The sand shinobi's eyes were about to fall out of their heads. Who was this girl?! Gaara's sand hasn't stopped her!
But their eyes widened even more, in anxiety or relief they were not sure, when sand started slipping out of Gaara's gourd. The sand all travelled to the girls body, sliding over her body and wrapping it tightly. Kankuro and his other teammate, Temari, began taking on expressions of distress, regretting the fate of such a gentle and beautiful creature. To die such a gruesome death. Crushed by Gaara's sand? Not pretty.
But their jaws dropped to the ground once more when the girl lifted her head from Gaara's shoulder, laughing. Her smile was there for all to see, lighting up the worl. Her laugh was the most enchanting sound they had ever heard, making them feel like they had died and gone to heaven. To see such a eartshattering visage... they could now die without regrets.
The girl was laughing and giggling, her body writing in discomfort.
The sand was tickling her.
The wisps of sand were gliding over her skin like snakes, carressing and tickling, gentle and playful in their behaviour. Unknown to himself, Gaara was watching her, a very slight smile on his face. His whole being had lost its bloodthirsty atmosphere, and was now excluding warmth. His eyes were gentle, watching his most precious person laugh.
Konohamaru and his team was watching, transfixed, right alongside the sand-genin. They had never seen such a beauty before, and felt like they would pass out any minute. Absentmindedly, Konohamaru grabbed hold of Naruto's sleeve and tugged.
"Naru-nii, who... is that?"
Naruto looked down at Konohamaru, his expression slightly dazed, but seemed more happy at her presence than anything. He was, after all, already more or less used to his teammates heaven-defying appearance. Though he had never seen her laugh like that before...
"Ah, that's my teammate. Ceiren Yami."
That seemed to snap Konohamaru out of his shock as he looked at Naruto with eyes full of disbelief and a trace of... jealousy?
"What?! No way, Naru-nii. I've never seen her before. Plus, there are only three people in every team! I'm not dumb!"
Naruto looked at Konohamaru and sighed, slight maturity coming through. He then patiently repeated himself.
"Yes, but team seven is special. I'm sure you must have hear of the only genin team with four members; Team Kakashi, consisting of yours truly, Naruto Uzumaki, Sakura Haruno, that teme Sasuke Uchiha and her, Ceiren Yami."
Konohamaru looked at Naruto, still not fully believing him, but didn't have the heart to argue when there was a beauty to watch. So he turned back and watched the enchanting creature that could make angels cry in jealousy.
Ceiren slowly quieted down her giggles and looked at Gaara, pale turquoise eyes meeting pale purple. As his warm yet confused gaze met hers, her eyes melted. The intense love in them was enough to make Gaara shocked beyond belief. He watched in disbelief as the beautiful girl smiled at him, her refreshing smell of night and roses filling his nose.
"Hello Gaara, hello Shukaku. I've longed to meet the two of you for the longest time! My name is Ceiren, nice to meet you!"
Gaara didn't even startle at her mention of the bijuu sealed inside him, he just wrapped his arms around her waist and hugged her close, his entire being enveloping in a warmth and security so powerful he drowned in it. Slowly, he closed his eyes, for the first time in his life, feeling utterly and completely safe.
Feeling utterly and completely loved.
His body relaxed, falling to the ground. Cei smiled, pulling him closer as she elegantly landed on the ground, looking down at the sleeping boy in her arms. Her smile turned tender, as she gently brushed a lock of her hair off his face. She was happy.
She found another one of her parents.
Now, she had both Kurama and Shukaku.
Her soul was singing in happiness, her dream for a family was coming true. She gently cradled the boys head, sending her heartfelt wish to her other father.
Hello, daddy. Please let the boy sleep in peace.
Shukaku of course listened. Even though he was a bijuu, a creature of hate and destruction, he still loved her. She was his kit. His only kit. He could feel her attachment to his container, and the mischievous raccoon quietly made a decision.
He wouldn't make trouble for his container anymore.
On the other side, Cei was about to caress Gaara's hair when a hand grabbed her wrist. Turning her head up in curiosity, she was met with onyx eyes and furrowed elegant brows. She was startled for a second before recognizing Sasuke's expression. He was pouting.
A blush spread on her face, making her pale skin turn an endearing shade of red, her eyes turning watery. She was staring at Sasuke with wide eyes. And one of her hand slowly went up and pinched her own nose.
ARGHHH TOO CUTE SASUKE YOU B*ASTARD SNEAK ATTACKS AREN'T ALLOWED DAMN IT STOP YOU'RE GOING TO MAKE ME OBSESSED YOU HEAVEN DEFYING HOTTIE!!!!
Her head was a mess. Sasuke's pout had the power to bring her to her knees. Without knowing how it happened, Ceiren suddenly found herself in her usual spot, being princess carried in Sasuke's arms. Looking back, Kankuro and Temari were already carrying away a sleeping Gaara, wary expressions on their faces.
She blushed and covered her face with her hands, feeling the vibrations in Sasuke's chest as he chuckled, and the slight swaying that meant he was walking. Cei sneakily peeked from between her fingers and saw all the leaf genin, except Naruto who was glaring and baring his teeth at Sasuke with a protective look, were passed out on the ground. Konohamaru's entire team plus Sakura were lying sprawled out on the ground, their faced flushed and blood running from their noses.
With her bijuu hearing, Ceiren could make out the unconscious Sakura's mutterings. Something about new ships, overpowering cuteness and finding the ultimate OTP. She faintly remember the term "Ship" from her past life, but she wasn't really a part of the fandoms, so she had no idea what this "OTP" was. Was it edible? As for the overpowering cuteness... well goodness, Sasuke's pout managed to defeat even her, the juubi!
Ceiren's eyes narrowed.
He's dangerous... just one pout can make me bleed to death. I'll have to make sure to never get on his bad side...
But since Ceiren was too embarrassed to look at Sasuke, she hadn't noticed the blush on his face and the slight trickle of blood running from his nose.
Her face when she was blushing, and the way she covered her face with her hands...
...so cute.
