《Nebula's Echo (a Naruto Fanfic)》Chapter 22

So, remember those kinda gory scenes I told you about? Well here tey coome~ Look out~
The mist was thick, obscuring everything in sight. The scent of blood hung thick in the air.
Sasuke stood inside the ice mirror dome, pierced with needles. Blazing red sharingan eyes slowly lost their luster and closed, as he fell back. Naruto instantly came up to catch him, gently lowering him down. His eyes were brimming with tears.
"Why...? You hated me, so why?!"
"I don't know, dobe...*cough* my body just moved on it's own... there wasn't enough time to think..."
Sasuke's voice was hoarse, already fading. His breathing turned quieter and shallower by the second. Kakashi and Sakura shouted his name from outside the dome, their voices filled with despair. But they were unable to do anything.
Holding Sasuke in his arms, Naruto lowered his head, his hair obscuring his eyes. Standing a few feet away, Haku lowered his head in respect before slowly melting into one of his ice mirrors.
"He was a true ninja... worthy of honor. Is this you first time? Seeing a friend die. This is part of what it means to be a ninja."
Haku's voice was soft, almost gentle. Naruto might have appreciated it, if it hadn't come from his comrade's killer. His best friend's killer.
"Shut up."
Naruto gently lowered Sasuke down, laying him on the ground. Then he just sat there, staring down at the ground. His shoulders were slightly shaking, and the smallest of whispers escaped his lips.
"...I hated you too, Sasuke. And yet..."
Suddenly, it was like a circle of warmth had surrounded the two of them. A perfect circle, with steam rising from it. Behind his mask, Haku's eyebrows rose.
The steam kept gathering, it's thickness not letting anyone see past it. And then, in an instant, it dispersed. What was revealed was a spiral. Of red, glowing chakra. Vicious, as it ripped the air apart. The ground around Naruto and Sasuke was crushed in the spiral's wake as it expanded, growing thicker, denser and spiraling faster, stronger. Slowly, in the midst of the spiral of red, Naruto raised his head, blazing blood red eyes with slitted pupils boring right into Haku. A guttural growl left his throat.
The chakra amassed before shooting out again, making the spiral rise to the roof of the ice mirror dome. Haku was staring, eyes wide with disbelief. He kept muttering to himself.
"What is this chakra? Chakra cannot be seen, yet it's clearly visible! It's something ghastly, I can feel the wrath, the bloodlust, like evil itself. This boy... what is he?!"
The chakra started gathering together, forming the abstract shape of a fox, whose grin could make any person weak at the knees. Zabuza and Kakashi were also both staring at the phenomenon, eyes opened wide and mouths hanging open, even though they both wore masks over their lower faces which hid it.
Kakashi watched wide eyed as the monstrous chakra amassed into the shape of a fox.
No it can't be...
The needles formerly stuck to Naruto's body were slowly pushed out, his wounds making a sizzling sound as they healed. His face was taking on an animalistic look; whiskers deepened and sharp, eyes red and slitted, fangs and claws at the ready.

Kakashi couldn't tear his eyes away as he stared in horror.
This puts everyone in danger! Now of all times the seal has broken... I have to stop it.
Just then, Naruto let out a loud roar, preparing to charge. And in that moment, when everybody was frozen in terror, it seemed like time stopped. A soft melody sounded through the air as black flower petals blew across the bridge.
Naruto stopped his charge completely, as the petals gathered around him, gently drifting. Locks of white hair blew softly with the breeze. Seconds later a divine beauty, looking out of this world, her clean and white being seeming completely out of place on the dark, misty and bloody bridge appeared. Her enchanting face was graced with a beautiful smile as her hand gently combed through Naruto's hair. Her smile widened, light purple eyes sparking with happiness.
"We finally meet, dad."
Everyone stared, eyes wide, as Naruto who had been standing on all fours slowly stood up. Turning to the girl, his hands reached up to cup her cheeks, gently stroking. With a grin spreading on his face, he grabbed her into a hug, crushing her. Nine tails of red chakra burst out of him, swirling around them in a chaos of wind and flame. A guttural, animalistic voice sounded, horse and as if a whisper.
"...Ceiren."
The smile on her face widened even more, showing off her glistening white teeth as she answered him.
"Kurama."
He quickly buried his face in her shoulder, his tails coming around them, hugging her even closer to him. A wide smirk was plastered on his face, looking almost insane.
"You sure are slow, kit. How about we kill all these pests for some bonding time? Make up for lost time?"
An amused chuckle left her as she slowly untwined herself from him.
"Why the rush? We have all the time in the world, right dad? These people, I'd rather they live. Plus, you might not want to end that kid. Even though you don't see it yet, trust me, you're going to like him."
Kurama snorted, not at all believing his kit's claim that he'd ever like his container. But since she asked not to kill him...
Ceiren slowly turned away from her dad, her heart brimming with happiness. Then she turned to Sasuke. A gentle light shone in her eyes as she lowered herself down and picked him up. Holding his upper body up, she carefully placed her palm on his forehead.
Black mist pooled from her fingertips, instantly rushing to extinguish all bacteria and infection. Pumping him full of her power, his wounds started sizzling too before closing. She smiled to herself, put him down and stood up. She had a proud look in her eyes.
He awakened the sharingan.
Her face had melted into a closed-eye smile before a snort from behind startled her. Turning around to face her dad, she raised an eyebrow at him. The ice mirrors were already melting, unable to take the pressure of the Nine-Tails' chakra. Ceiren gracefully walked forward and called gently.
"Haku."
The ninja's head snapped up to her. His eyes were wide opened as he stared at her, but he was low on chakra, she could tell. He couldn't even stand straight anymore, hence why he was currently sitting on the ground. Ceiren kneeled beside him and put her palm on his forehead as well.

"Here, I'll give you some of my power."
Then, she turned to look at Zabuza, pastel-purple eyes turning dead serious. Zabuza flinched under her gaze. She really did a number on him last time...
"We'll stop fighting now."
She turned her serious gaze on Kakashi.
"All of us. I have a feeling we'll have something better to waste our energy on real soon~"
After replenishing Haku's chakra, she stood and faced the other end of the bridge. A corner of her lips lifted up into a smirk. Her lips pouted seductively as she said, syllable for syllable;
"G-a-t-o~ Come out come out wherever you are~"
Zabuza's eyes widened as he gazed deeper into the mist. When the mist started clearing, silhouettes could be seen. At the very front stood a very short man. Gato. A band of different thugs were standing behind him. Kakashi, Tazuna and Sakura were watching, confused. Zabuza had an understanding, resolute look on his face. Haku was still sitting on the ground recovering and Sasuke was still lying on the ground, sleeping soundly.
Ceiren and Kurama were watching Gato with blank gazes, cold and void of emotion. They were watching him like he was nothing.
Like he was already dead.
Zabuza's eyes narrowed as he looked down at the short man.
"Gato... I don't understand. What is all this. Why are you here? And who are all these thugs you've brought with you?"
Zabuza's voice seemed threatening and sarcastic at the same time. Like he already knew what was coming. The short man, completely missed the message though. His chubby face twisted into a creepy smile.
"Well you see... there's been a slight change in plans. According to the new plan... you die right here on this bridge, Zabuza!"
Zabuza rolled his eyes.
"Oh, is that right?"
"That's right, you're too expensive, so I've decided to take you off the payroll. Of course, even these thugs I've brought with me cost something, so if you could manage to slaughter a few of them before they take you down, I'd appreciate it. Think you can manage that, Demon ninja of the mist? Hahahaha, you're just about as demonic as a kitten!"
The short man and the thugs behind him broke into laughter. But the laughter died when a beautiful young girl stepped in front of them. Ceiren was gazing at them with distaste and coldness in her eyes. They flashed dangerously.
"What makes you think that you can call my demonic-cowey names?"
Her voice was dangerously calm, but nobody was listening to her. The thugs were all blushing, drool beginning to drip from their lips. Especially the short man, was gazing at her with fervent desire in his eyes. He lifted his hand to point at her, but before he could say anything, a flash of black flew at him. And blood shot up like a fountain.
Screams of pain and agony willed the air as Gato fell to the ground, holding his severely bleeding, severed hand. Blood flowed freely, but the color quickly turned from red to black. The stump of his arm started to quickly deteriorate, blackening sickeningly as the corrosive effect of the black mist took effect. His howls of agony made the others tremble in fear.
Kakashi couldn't stop staring. Stiffly, he turned his gaze on his student. She was watching her victim with a cold expression on her face, like she would watch some bug get crushed under her boot. He shivered.
What is she.
Ceiren slowly opened her rosy lips, her enchanting voice issuing a quiet order.
"Now these people, you can kill."
Kurama's eyes lit up and his tails shot out, raining chaos as they swept through the group of thugs, slicing and crushing them left and right. It was a bloodbath. Violent, quick and bloody.
So much blood.
When everyone was lying dead on the ground, Ceiren slowly walked towards the still barely living Gato. Kneeling down, she lowered her head to face him. Her white locks got soaked on the bloody ground. Their eyes locked and the minute Gato looked into the sinister, bright purple eyes, his soul left his body. He just couldn't take anymore. He died in excruciating pain, gazing into the eyes of a monster and seeing hell through its eyes. A truly gruesome way to die.
Ceiren slowly stood and swept her hand. Darkness rose around her, the mist spreading and destroying any evidence of a fight. All the bodies, all the blood, was corroded, turned to dust.
Turning to Kurama, she slightly inclined her head. Kurama did the same in response, smirking as his essence slowly left, leaving an unconscious Naruto. Ceiren instantly let her shadows catch him before he hit the ground.
Then she looked back at Kakashi, purple eyes blazing. She knew he couldn't let this go. She had demonstrated powers well beyond what a genin knows, heck, she had displayed unnatural and outright demonic power. This would have to get back to the Hokage. And the council. Who knew what the consequences of that would be.
In a flash of shadows the beauty appeared before the silver haired ninja. He flinched slightly then her hands reached up to cup his cheeks. Bringing her face closer to his, she kept getting closer until her lips were right by his ear. And a silky, enchanting voice sounded.
"Oblivion."
Kakashi's eyes fluttered shut and his knees caved, but before he could fall to the ground Ceiren wrapped her thin arms around him, holding him up. Slowly, she let go and let her shadows rise from the ground and support him in her stead. She looked back at Sakura, Tazuna, Zabuza and Haku, all watching her with apprehension. Her lip curled into a slight smirk as she repeated the same word once more.
"Oblivion."
Almost immediately after, all of them started dropping to the ground only to be caught by her shadows. Tazuna was lowered to the ground and left there. When he woke up, his coworkers would find him. Ceiren sent the shadows holding Zabuza and Haku into the woods. Tomorrow, they'll wake up in a cave.
Another shadow rose to embrace the sleeping Sasuke. With all of them safe, the beauty looked around the silent bridge. Not a soul in sight. Smirking gently to herself, she flashed away in a pool of darkness, her shadows holding her teammates following behind her.

A Girl and Her Food
When a lost girl wakes up without a name, she quickly finds herself alone in a way that people around her can’t fix. Without a real plan and desperate to find what’s wrong with her, she thrashes and bites to stay alive. But human beings are weak things, that band together for strength, no matter who we are. Now if only she could work up the courage to ask one question... It’s normal to get stronger when you drink the blood of monsters. Right? Things to expect: - A powerful but kinda neurotic and emotional protagonist, with some degree of weak to strong. Or maybe strong to stronger, honestly. She's pretty rational and practical about things but won't always make the best decisions, so be warned if you super-dislike characters doing dumb stuff for emotional reasons sometimes. - Lots of dialogue and characterization, especially as we get more into it. It's focused on a single POV, but there might be some sections of other POVs later on, I'm not sure right now. - Magic is on the softer side, but I'll try to keep things fleshed out enough to avoid any obvious "well-established magic could have seemingly instantly solved this problem" moments. - I didn't add the mystery tag because I feel like it implies that this is a detective novel or something, but the story is absolutely incredibly opaque at times. So you'll have the most fun if you go into it trying to puzzle out the nature of events before they're explicitly explained!😇 - Also, I added the genre for completion, but it's gonna take a while to get to the romance. Please wait warmly and have some tea. Participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge!
