《Nebula's Echo (a Naruto Fanfic)》Chapter 7

AN; Okay hey again, I just need to say something real quick. So, as you might have noticed, I'm seriously bad at capturing personalities, so the characters are gonna be a little (or a lot) ooc. Sorryyy~
Also, this chapter turned out to be over 2000 words, which is pretty far from my average of 1200... I'm sorry. I'll try my best to make them shorter, it's just that I seriously lack the skill of writing shortly and concisely XD
-------------------
It was a sunny morning. The sunlight shone over Konoha, the breeze rustling the leaves in the trees. Birdsong and children's laughter rang joyously in the air. On such a beautiful day, the citizens of the village hidden in the leaves felt at peace. Like nothing could mar the beauty of this day.
But there are two sides to every coin.
On the outskirts of the forest, not far from the village gates, shadows pooled. The darkness hidden between the trees kept growing, until a figure materialized out of the shadows. A silhouette with long black hair, horns and ominous black wings stepped into the light.
The moment the light touched her, the long black hair turned into a luminous white while the horns and wings retracted back into her body. The black markings that had run across her skin lightened, until they turned completely white, making them almost invisible against her pale skin. The radiating figure walked, or more like drifted, towards the gates of Konoha. Every step was as elegant as if she was walking on air. Strands of silvery white hair fluttered in the breeze. She was clad in nothing but a transparent silver cloth worn like a greek dress, but it revealed nothing of her body. Strikingly white eyelashes fluttered open, revealing a pair of enchanting purple eyes.
Stopping before the gates, her gaze drifted to the sleeping guards, the corner of her lips curling. Stepping closer to them, she extended a pale hand to the guard with a bandage across his face. At the contact, the guards eyes snapped open as he jumped into a fighting pose. His movement woke the other guard, that had slept leaning against the first. Standing in their fighting stances, they looked around for the intruder. When their gazes landed on the girl, they froze, jaws hanging open.
The girl tilted her head to the side and smiled gently.
"Good day sir. I would like to become a citizen of Konoha... if it's possible?"
The guards there completely enchanted by the melodious voice, and it took them a good while to progress what she had said. Their faces were flushed as they straightened, trying to look like proper guards.
"Ehm... well, we'll have to take you to the Hokage... only he can decide something like that... Oh! But I'm sure he'll allow it! The Hokage is very understanding!"
The one with a bandage on his face told the girl, becoming slightly panicked at the end of his sentence. His companion just nodded in agreement.
The girl just smiled and bowed slightly.
"Thank you. I would very much like to meet the Hokage, so I will trouble you."

The guards blushed at her smile, and started denying the notion that she could trouble them in any way, the denials turning to compliments and then outright flattery.
The corner of the girls mouth twiched slightly, but that was left unnoticed by the guards that were completely lost in their own conversation.
In the end, because they couldn't leave the gates unguarded, the two guards had an argument over who would take the girl to the Hokage, and who would stay guarding the gates.
Although the girl still had a gentle smile on her face, in her mind she was rolling her eyes.
Even with both of you here, don't even mention me, even the Kyuubi could sashay into the Village in his true form without being noticed. Seriously.
In the end it was decided that the bandage-guard would stay at the gates and his partner wold escort the girl. The bandage-guard sulked, as he looked at the two people heading to the Hokage's office.
I was sitting at my desk, fighting desperately against the mortal enemy of all kages: paperwork. I swear, this was some evil plot hatched by some jealous and apparently stupid civilian or something. I mean, take your village's strongest shinobi, put them at a desk where they develop back-problems, hand cramps, shortsightedness and a susceptibility to migraines. Simply genius, wouldn't you say? Well, that's one way to even out the power. Make your strongest shinobi suffer such drawbacks. I get it, but seriously. Couldn't they have had just a little mercy!
I sighed out loud for the thirtieth or so time today, and turned back to the pile of papers waiting for my attention. Then a slight noise at the door made me look up. Seeing Izumo walk in with a slightly flushed face, I just stared at him thinking 'so it finally happened...'
But I was proven wrong in my assumption when I saw the person following him in.
To make even Izumo blush... well, somehow I'm not surprised.
The person that entered was a girl. She looked to be about eleven, maybe twelve years old. But she was already a devastating beauty. She was wearing a strangely styled dress made out of a beautiful and seemingly transparent material, but even if it seemed transparent, it did not reveal any part of her body. Her long, white hair looked incredibly silky as it brushed against her tights in an enticing way. Her young and underdeveloped body was already showing signs of a curvaceous shape. Her face, looked like it wasn't human. The pale skin was spotless and smooth, the small chin perfectly rounded and her rather high cheekbones were softly shaped, giving her an elegant and fragile air. Her lips were small and full, and had an endearing pink color that matched perfectly with her pale skin and white hair, all light colours. Her small nose turned just the smallest bit up at the end, and her elegant eyebrows were completely symmetrical.
But even with the overall beauty that her face held, her most stunning feature was, without question, her eyes.
They were also her darkest feature. Framed by long, thick white eyelashes, a pair of striking purple eyes were gazing back at me.

They were absolutely gorgeous. They sparkled like a million galaxies, but even with all the light, they seemed almost deceiving. It felt like they had a darkness in them, like twin bottomless pits that can swallow you whole, never letting you see the light again. I shivered slightly, feeling cold sweat run down my back.
For some unknown reason, I felt afraid in her presence. It felt like there was a cloak of stillness surrounding her, making the air around her stand completely still, as if frozen in time.
Even though I could feel no chakra emanating from her, I had the slight feeling that the cloak of stillness was there not to keep anything out, but more to keep something in. It was the strangest feeling, and I could almost feel something massive crawling just beneath her skin, waiting to be released.
She's just a girl... a little girl that doesn't even have any chakra emissions. What is there to be afraid of.
Telling myself that, I looked back at the girl's eyes, only to be unable to see that darkness again.
I must have imagined it.
I sighed in slight relief, and turned to Izumo.
"So, who do we have here?"
"Lord Third, we found her at the gates. She says she wants to become a citizen of Konoha..."
That peaked my interest. I turned to face the girl, looking at her with inquisitive eyes.
The girl smiled at me, and bowed her head slightly before her enchanting voice sounded in the room.
"Greetings Lord Hokage, it is a pleasure to meet you. My name is Ceiren. Ceiren Yami. It was my hope that I could reside in Konoha, if not indefinitely, then for the time being, perhaps?"
I was slightly shocked. She had very developed language for a girl her age. She could be a young mistress of a prestigious house, like Hinata Hyuuga, but her name is unfamiliar to me.
What is her background exactly?
I looked at her silently, stroking my beard in thought.
"Well then, Ceiren-chan, would you mind telling me what happened to you? What brought you to Konoha? What is your goal?"
I was interrogating her, yes, but these are questions that a normal child would consider natural. Thinking that, I was surprised when I saw her eyes flash, but it was gone as quickly as it came. Instead, she gave me another smile.
"Well... how to say, I don't really have a home. I have lived on the road my whole life, and heard stories of the peaceful village hidden in the leaves, so I decided, that since I don't have a place where I belong, I might as well give it a try. As for what my goal is... I suppose, it would be to find my parents. I haven't seen them since my birth, but I know that they are alive. So if our paths are fated to cross, I think the chances are higher in a prosperous village where many people gather than they would be in a forest somewhere. And I'm not in a rush. Time is no object. I know that if I stay here, sooner or later, I will meet them all."
I was flattered by her thought's of our village, and felt sorry for her. Her story was rather sad, and by the sincerity shining from her eyes towards the end of her story, I knew that she was telling the truth. Debating with myself, I quickly reached a decision.
"...Alright, you may stay. Although, you are too young to live alone... Say, what about school? Would you like to become a ninja?"
Even though she doesn't give off any chakra emissions, I felt compelled to ask her that. At my question, her eyes seemed to light up with...satisfaction?
Slowly, almost hypnotizingly, she started walking towards me. Her feet made absolutely no sound as she neared me, and for a moment, I thought her eyes were shining. For some reason, I couldn't move. But before she could come closer, a bunch of Anbu appeared in the room, blocking her from me. And a certain silver-haired jounin grabbed her arm, stopping her from coming forward. It was silent, and I looked back to Ceiren to see if she had been scared. But all that greeted me was her beautiful smile. Her smile widened, showing teeth, and I was sure that was somewhat responsible for some of the Anbu becoming completely motionless.
"Yes, I would love to!"
Taking a moment, I smiled too. Hah, an enthusiastic youth, wanting to be a ninja. I already felt somewhat proud of her.
She has the will of fire burning in her.
Still smiling, I gestured for the Anbu to leave and turned to the jounin still holding Ceiren's arm.
"Kakashi, perfect timing. I think I'll let Ceiren-chan stay with you for the time being. Be so kind and take care of her, alright? Also bring her to the academy tomorrow...though, don't the academy students Cei-chan's age graduate in two days? Should we put you in a younger year?"
I asked Ceiren cautiously. But I was really surprised when she replied with excitement in her voice:
"No need. Two days, suits me just great! At least let me try graduating, I will try not to disappoint you!"
...aaaah, who can deny that face? The hopeful expression with sparkles in the background.... I admit defeat. Looking at her with a smile, I spoke once more.
"Alright! We'll do that then. For the time being, Cei-chan, you'll be staying with Kakashi. Ask him for anything you might need. Kakashi, take good care of her."
I smiled as I watched them greet each other.
"Hi, I'm Kakashi Hatake, nice to meet you."
"Why hello, my name is Ceiren Yami, but you may call me by my very recently given nickname, Cei. I'll be in your care."
Cei-chan bowed slightly to Kakashi, whose face flushed slightly, not that it was very visible with the mask and all.
"Y-yes. Follow me, I'll show you around."
At that, Cei-chan flashed Kakashi a joy-filled smile, grabbed his hand and dragged him out of my office.
I was still smiling, looking at their retreating backs.
Things sure are getting interesting.
