《Satin on the Slopes》Chapter 24

"I thought you didn't date clients," Tyson said one evening after I had shot his personal interview on behalf of a new snowboard company that was trying to make waves.

As he spoke the cute red head that he had been flirting with during the interview furrowed her brow but glanced away quickly. She moved to rearrange her gear in the small, Calgary studio.

Both his and her behavior was enough to make me roll my eyes. Tyson needed to grow up and stop toying with every woman that came across his path. It wasn't fair to string along girls like that. But she wasn't exactly a girl. She was a woman who should've been more concerned with her job than giggling over everything he had said. Or, if she had used flirting as a tactic to get more information out of her clients she should learn to keep those feelings on the surface. If she was a sports journalist she should've had more than one person hit on her as she conducted interviews.

"I don't date clients. And, if I recall, I said I wasn't in the market to date anyone," I repeated, feeling like this was something I had to say daily now.

"Well, you've been spending an awful lot of time with Hudson. You know, outside of work," he hinted.

"Uh huh, you seem to forget that I spent an entire weekend with you in a single hotel room," I pointed out. I bowed my head to look at my camera screen, already so excited over the shots I had gotten, but when my eyes swept downward I caught a glimpse of the interviewer and her face was flaming. She had been pretending like she hadn't been listening to our conversation as she took down her equipment, but her face told me just what she thought of me sleeping in the same hotel room as this sexy snowboarder.

"Well, if you aren't opposed to spending time with him outside of work functions then you should be more than willing to spend time with me, too."

The words came out of his mouth like they were stone cold fact and that was enough to make me laugh out loud. This guy just didn't quit. And he also didn't seem to understand basic social principle.

"Tyson, this isn't kindergarten. I pick who I want to be friends with. Just because I happen to like Hudson's company doesn't mean that I need to enjoy yours as well."

"Are you implying that you don't like me, Penelope?" he asked with a wide, teasing smile. And it was moments like these that I appreciated him. When his words didn't have a vulgar undertone and he wasn't trying to wrangle to put on this playboy attitude he was quite funny. Plus, he was quite handsome in his street clothes.

"I'm undecided," I teased.

"Well, how about we spend some time together tonight to help you make up your mind?" he suggested.

Now, the interviewer was finally wrapping up with her tear down. She was moving faster than she had been before and I was just thankful that she would be getting away from this conversation that was obviously torturing her. If only she knew the truth. Tyson might've loved to flirt and we might've spent a couple nights sleeping in the same room, but there was nothing romantic or sexual between him and I. Sure, he was handsome and he had his good moments, but until he got his act together we could be nothing beyond friends.

But if he really wanted this I might as well grab at what I could.

"I only agree to spending time with Hudson if he offers to pay for whatever activity and feeding me. Just a heads up: I can damn near eat my weight in fries and burgers."

"Damn, you aren't cheap to keep, are you?"

"Never said I was."

With Tyson setting up the interview in Calgary it was simple enough to load up my car and drive where he guided. I had no idea where we were going, but I didn't say anything. At this point I was getting two free meals a week and good entertainment from him and Hudson combined. It was a good deal that got me out and social while keeping my costs down.

But when we pulled up to a bowling alley I felt a little annoyed. I had been prepared for a lot of things, but this was not one of them.

"Not a big fan of bowling?" Tyson asked when he saw my hard expression.

And what was I going to tell him? That I came here on the worst date of my life? He didn't need to know that the last time I had been in a similar situation that my ex fiance had gotten a new member in his fan club and I had left disgusted.

"I'm just really bad at it," I lied.

"That's okay. Plus, there's a little pub across the street that has some of the best craft beer in the city. We'll both suck at rolling a ball then we'll have a couple drinks. By the end of the night you'll be in love with me."

"That's a stretch, Ty," I argued, but smiled as I slid out of the car.

He followed suit and slipped out. "I don't think it's that much of a stretch, Penelope. In fact, I think you love me a bit already."
