On Friday, Mom is at work. Rylee stays over with us. When Gem and I told her some news, she was glad. "It's really thoughtful that you're helping Ms. Stanley," she told Gem.

"Mom should believe so."

"What do you mean?"

"She thinks Ms. Stanley won't make it."

"Well, some people do. Others have a good chance on beating stroke."

"I believe so. She's improving, you know."

"That's good." I stepped myself in. "Rylee, how can you get stroke?"

"Well, an artery gets blocked or bursted in the brain, stopping the blood flow. Think of it as traffic."

"So... how would you know if you'll make it?"

"I'm not sure, Jem." Muffling was heard from Gem's walkie-talkie. Gem gives it to me.

"That's my cue."

"What's that?"

"I gave a walkie-talkie to Ms. Stanley."

"Nice thinking," Rylee said. Gem rushed to the door and left. "So, how was school?"

"Great." I frowned.

"What's wrong?" I want to tell Rylee about telling Gem about Dad. She looked so glad, I couldn't do it. "Nothing, Rylee."
