《Trick Or Treat || Michael Myers X Reader》Chapter Ten

My eyes scanned the shelves, the rows of books that covered the library catching my attention before I made my way to the front desk.
"Hi hello. I've got a little bit of a question for you." I greeted the older woman who stood at the other side of the desk, now awaiting her response.
She glanced up from the book in her hands, the title of the piece of literature she was reading giving off an odd vibe.
"What is it you need?" She asked softly, her demeanor that of a sickly old grandma that just wanted to bake cookies for those she cared for.
I leaned forward, smiling slightly and tilting my head, that action alone making me think of Michael.
"Um... This is a bit odd, but I was wondering... Do you have anything on the Myers family? Anything at all? Books? Old newspapers?" I asked, my shoulders rising once I finished speaking.
The librarian sat up, her eyes scanning my face closely, her brows furrowed. "What's the need for that?" She asked, clearly she wasn't a fan of Haddonfield's history.
"Stuff for a project I have at school." I quickly lied, forcing an innocent smile onto my face.
The elder hesitated, before nodding. She pushed herself to her feet and made her way around the desk so that she was stationed beside me. "You'll want to check in the historical section or the non-fiction section. That's where details on the family would be." She explained and began to turn away, only to pause when I spoke again.
"Are there any pieces of information that are like... In the back or something? Like, is there anything I should have to pay for to get my hands on?" I asked, adamant on getting my hands on every possible book or paper that was available. And if it came to it, I would threaten the old lady.
"Um... I'll go check in the back room. You can go look in the different sections while I do that." The librarian explained, making her way behind the front desk and entering a room just behind it.
I swallowed hard, my adrenaline rising and triggering my hands to shake.
I turned around slowly, feeling quite small in such a large library.

I hesitated for a moment before making my way to the non-fiction section. My eyes scanning the rows of books and looking for those with the name Myers implied or written.
Only one or two books caught my eye, which was a shame but I grabbed them nonetheless and wandered to the historical section- even if what had happened at the Myers house wasn't too long ago.
Again, my e/c eyes scanned each and every row, only to come across historical books on past wars and laws that I could care less about.
I only had two books to go off of.
I spun around soon after coming to the disappointing conclusion, only to let out a shriek when I practically ran into the older librarian before me.
"Good god!" I blurted, covering my mouth a moment later and catching my breath, trying to slow down my racing heart.
Stupid old lady.
"I'm so sorry!" The lady quickly stated, holding her arms out in case I needed any assistance.
I furrowed my brows and glanced around, making sure I hadn't disturbed anyone reading a book like Of Mice and Men or something of the sorts.
The elder lady let out a weak whine before speaking, "eh, there's a few articles in the back. We aren't allowed to let customers take anything from there but I can let you in there for a little while?" She suggested, quickly changing the subject.
I perked up a moment later after hearing her offer, a smile quickly spreading across my face. "Yes! Yes! Thank you so much!" I bounced on my toes and clapped quietly, careful not to drop my books or be too loud.
Eventually, I was taken to the back, where the elder held the door open for me. I stepped in and looked around, a wide grin splattered across my face.
I thanked the librarian once again, only to be left alone in the back room with the door shut completely and a faint light to show me all of the hidden pieces of literature.
I made my way to an empty section of the elongated shelf and set my two books down. Now directing my full attention to all of the articles and books I hadn't seen before.
The whole shelf was ordered by letter.

Starting from A to Z.
My finger slid across the smooth backs of each book, occasionally skipping over those that looked to be rotting away.
My eyes lit up when I reached the section full of books that started with the letter T.
I slouched over to get a better look at each book spine, searching for a title that caught my eye.
"Aha!" I whisper yelled, having a breakthrough when I came across a book by the title of The Devil's Eyes.
I picked it up and skimmed through it, only to stop at the very last page.
A short biography of the writer was imprinted on the last page.
Samuel Loomis.
...
My body didn't move and my breathing stopped.
I know him.
He was Michael's doctor.
He wrote about my lover?
How sick.
But it was needed.
Loomis probably knew the most about Michael compared to anybody else.
I had to see if there were any other books from the doctor stashed away in here.
Luckily, I didn't have to search too hard, as just a few books down lay another book written by Doctor Loomis himself.
The Devil Walks Among Us.
I for sure was not a fan of the titles of these books. They sounded so negative.
With a begrudging sigh I sat down and leant back against the single shelf, opening up the first book I had found written by the odd doctor.
I figured i'd read a bit of some of each book and then finish the rest with Laurie once she was free.
So that's exactly what I did.
I read through the beginning of The Devil's Eyes. I made my way to the two other books I had found outside of the back room. So far, I hadn't come across anything too interesting about the Myers family that would lead to any new information about Angel Myers. Unfortunately though, I was unable to get to the second book by Loomis, as the elder librarian had peeked into the room and knocked on the withering wall.
"Excuse me? It's time for you to be going. Please leave any books from in here behind. Thank you." And with that she shut the door once again, presumably waiting outside of the door for me.
My jaw dropped slightly, my nerves beginning to grow wild. I was getting nervous, how would I be able to gather more info without these books?
____
I stole the books.
I ran down the sidewalk, holding my purse close to my stomach, making sure none of the books fell out.
I was gasping for air as I bounded down the street, desperate to return to my house. My breath hitched on occasion, causing me to cough and slow down.
The least of my worries was being caught after stealing two of the four books I had located at the library.
I was simply eager to get back to my shelter so that I could be prepared for Laurie to come over and research the Myers family with me.
I continued running, only slowing down when I neared the house.
I turned and ran up the small stairs before arriving at the front door. I jiggled the doorknob only to remember that I had left the house without locking the door. So I pushed the door open and made my way to the kitchen after kicking the door shut once again from behind me.
I set the books down on the counter, lining them up in a straight row and smiling in content.
I spun around and took ahold of one of the chairs that gathered around the kitchen table. I dragged it over to the counter and set it down just in front of it. Right between where I had stationed the books and where the home phone was set up.
I took a seat there and closed my eyes, laying my head back against the chair and inhaling deeply.
One step closer my love.
And then we can reunite and show each other how much we really love each other.
By god I can't wait to see him again.
To be in his presence.
To be able to feel him.
I opened my eyes a moment later, raising my hand and sliding my finger slowly under my eyes, gathering tears and wiping them away.
I sniffled quietly, giving up on fighting the waterworks when I felt more tears forming in my eyes.
I closed my eyes once again and let myself cry.

The Kodoku Game
In Japanese folklore, there once existed an ancient technique among alchemists for harvesting the strongest poison known to man. A poison so vicious, so horrendous, that a single drop could incapacitate an entire nation of humans, several times over. A poison so intense that a single drop could turn the tides of a war on its head. As potent as it appeared however, this poison could be harvested from the blood of a single insect alone- an insect the alchemist’s called the ‘Kodoku’. As lucrative as was attaining this poison however, the problem lied in identifying this insect- its appearance, shape and size changed from region to region and from continent to continent. Sometimes it took the appearance of a ladybug and other times a horned-beetle. In order to determine the identity of this special insect the alchemists came up with an ingenious method. They created an impregnable jar of clay out of the best sandstone they could find and placed hundreds of different insects into the same jar. The jar was made with such great mastery that it allowed no insects to escape and allowed no objects to enter. The laws of nature dictated that the insects would remain together in the jar forever. However, it turned out that as time went on, the insects’ hunger for food and power caused them to turn against each other- one insect ate another until only one remained. This sole insect contained a poison that far surpassed that of all the others and became stronger as it ate more and more insects. The alchemists at this point had succeeded in identifying the Kodoku and could extract it’s poison as long as they continued to feed it regularly. Although this folklore ends here, the actual story does not. One day, as the alchemists cheered in joy of having identified the Kodoku they so eagerly wanted, they forgot to close the lid on the very jar that was considered to be completely impregnable. This small gap was just large enough for the Kodoku inside to crawl out. Famished from not having been fed for weeks, the Kodoku ended up eating the very alchemists that nourished its growth until not even the bones remained. Yet, the Kodoku’s hunger didn’t seem to subside in the slightest. So it traveled to the next village and began eating whatever it could find there. Its poison made it unparalleled in strength and slowly but surely it began to dwindle down the population of the entire city. Yet its hunger only continued to grow. So it traveled to the next city over and ate all it could there. Very soon, the Kodoku couldn’t find any more food to eat. There was no one left to eat and no one left to spectate. So it stood there, by itself pondering what possibly was left to eat that could satiate its hunger. But there was one thing left that Kodoku realized it had never eaten. Itself.
