Jirou nervously played with her earphone jacks as she looked around the room. Ashido, Kaminari, Kirishima, and Ochaco sat on a couch opposite to her. They watched Jirou as she continued playing with her jacks, before Ashido spoke up.
"Are you okay Jirou?" Jirou jumped slightly and let her eyes meet Ashido's. She wore a bright grin, but there was a hint of worry. Jirou sighed and dropped her hands to her side.
"I have something that I wanted to share with you guys." Jirou said. She had choose these four people to share her news with because she felt she could trust them. Well, at least Jirou knew she could trust Ochaco and Kirishima to keep quiet.
"We're listening." Jirou nodded at her friends as she swallowed. Jirou took a deep breath and looked towards her friends with a serious expression. She could hear her heart pounding loudly as she spoke.
"I'm thinking about proposing to Momo." Jirou closed her eyes and exhaled slowly. Opening her eyes again, she saw her old classmates staring at her in shock. Blushing, Jirou buried her face in her hands and mumbled. It was so embarrassing.
"Congratulations!" Jirou opened her eyes as Ashido pulled her into a hug. Ochaco and Kirishima were smiling, while Kaminari gently patted Jirou's back. "Yeah! It took guts to confess something like that." Kirishima said. Jirou blushed again and buried her face into Ashido's shoulder.

"Before I tell you guys why I needed your help, can you promise to keep quiet? I don't want anyone else knowing unless I tell them. Got it?" Her friends nodded in agreement and Jirou smiled. Before, her friends would have endlessly teased her about these sort of things. It was obvious that her friends had grown over the years, and Jirou appreciated their respect.

"Anyways, I needed your help because I want this to be special. I need advice so I won't screw something up." Jirou looked at her friends hopefully.
Kaminari spoke up first. "You can't screw a proposal up unless you do something stupid. Just don't do anything stupid and you'll be fine." He smiled. Jirou looked at him. "Like what?" She asked. Kaminari thought for a moment. "Well...." Before he could finish, Kirishima interrupted.
"You'll be fine! Yaomomo will accept your proposal, I just know it! Just act like yourself and when the time feels right, ask her!" Ochaco nodded. "I know that if someone was proposing to me, I wouldn't want them to force themselves to propose at a certain time." Ochaco said. Ashido nodded in agreement.
"I love you guys." Jirou whispered as she pulled her friends in for a hug. "We love you too." Kaminari smirked. She rolled her eyes at him and looked away, but she couldn't help but grin.

Later, Jirou laid on her bed, thinking about the next day. Earlier that day, she had bought a beautiful blue diamond ring. The ring was now sitting on her dresser drawer, encased in a beautiful ring box.
Jirou gently hummed along to the song she was currently listening to. As she listened to the lyrics, she couldn't help but let her mind drift to the future. A future with Momo was something Jirou had wanted to a long time. Ever since they had began dating three years ago, Jirou had always wondered what her future would look like.
She hoped that when she and Momo got married, hopefully, that she would finally be able to stop worrying about the woman. Momo was always involved in dangerous situations, and while Jirou was also involved, she always worried that her girlfriend wouldn't see another day. Once they were married, maybe Jirou's worrying would finally ease slightly.

Maybe they would also be able to have children. Jirou wasn't quite sure if she was fully prepared, but she did want kids. Some of her old classmates even had children now, and Jirou knew Momo always watched the children with a tender look in her eyes.
Jirou pulled the covers over her and snuggled into her pillow. Before she fell asleep, she glanced at the ring and smiled.
Tomorrow was the day.

What happens when in modern society, magic is discovered? What happens when the gift of magic is centered around a small percentage of the population? What happens when a kid who despises magic and magicians discovers his talent in magic? This is the story of a youth learning how to make peace with his gift, his past, and his future. As a new author any and all help is appreciated. If you see any mistakes, please notify me about them. Constructive criticism is appreciated. If you think my story sucks, tell me why it sucks. Hope you enjoy my first fiction.

8 62The Dreamside Road
Five years after the world fell into chaos, a treasure of artifacts is up for grabs. The relics of the Dreamside Road offer a power that could help rebuild or annihilate what remains. Orson Gregory is an adventurer for hire, but hunts this treasure for answers, not glory. Enoa Cloud’s late aunt helped hide the Dreamside Road, but following in her aunt’s supernatural tradition offers her as much peril as power. Together, Orson and Enoa battle a magic-obsessed militia, clash with a host of rivals, and face constant adventure on their journey to find the Dreamside Road. *Updates Monday and Friday The Dreamside Road is now on TopWebFiction! Vote so people know this exists. _____________________________________ NOTE: The Progression tag applies specifically to Enoa. Also, fair warning, that element doesn't enter the story until she begins her studies. Content: Main characters range in age from teenagers to people in their thirties and older, but it will not contain gratuitous violence or explicit sexual content. It also won’t shy away from implication, anything to make this story and its world feel more real. Characters will freely allude to potentially triggering topics, including living with a disability, facing terminal illness, coping with trauma, surviving societal destabilization, and the consequences of bigotry. At its most intense, the Dreamside Road is a hard PG-13. Worldbuilding: This is not a story with a lot of early exposition scenes, conveniently explaining ‘magic systems’ and political dynamics. Readers will learn, progressively, as the characters do. This story/world has a ‘magic system’, or rather, a set of systems, but the effort to quantify and understand the truth of the setting plays a role in the backstory, as well as in some character motivations. In that same vein, not every character has a firm grasp on the nature of their world, and not every piece of dialog from every character should be taken as entirely truthful Worldbuilding. Also, this isn't the softest Sci-fi. There are at least some basic explanations given for various elements, but Royal Road does not give me a spectrum to choose from. Given the choice between hard and soft, let's just say The Dreamside Road won't be cited in any college Physics papers. Setting and Theme: The Dreamside Road walks the line between fantasy and science fiction and deals with finding one’s place in a changing world. Many of the characters in this story are United States natives and the story begins in the United States, my homeland. However, knowledge or interest in this country is not necessary to understand the story, especially as it progresses. Also, as this is a novel that deals with societal collapse and while that damage may be widespread, in story, I don’t want to overstep and critique the culture of others’ unless I have particular knowledge in a given area. Ultimately, the Dreamside Road is American in the same way Harry Potter is English, fantasies that do not have a full secondary world, but with enough original elements to fully diverge the setting from our the real world.
