《Finding My Luna (Sequel to ICBTAM)》Chapter 10- Please Slow Down Time

I sat in my chair, hands covering my face in frustration. Planning had been going on all week. Poor Ty had been tasked with making sure everything was perfect.

There wasn't much in the way of choices for this wedding though, it was all centered around pack tradition, which was completely fine by me. If I'd had to choose what kind of flowers, what the colors were going to be, round or square tables, and who would sit where I would have had a meltdown. I was already focused on my own issues trying to get my wolf back.

The clock was ticking, I could feel it. The baby was ready to come, and that terrified me. I wasn't ready to be a mother, but what scared me even more was the fact that I may not have to worry about being a mother. Without Kali, chances were good that I wouldn't make it.

There was however one choice I had been tasked in making, and it was nearly impossible.

I looked back up at the dresses lined in front of me. So many jewels, so much tulle, all the frill. Which dress I wore was completely up to me, and it was an impossible choice to make in the limited time I had.

"Please, Katarina. You have to make the decision now so we can make any alterations necessary. The wedding is tomorrow." This poor woman had been dealing with me all week and I was no closer to a decision than day one.

"I want something that isn't going to overly show off this." I gestured toward my stomach.

"Which is why I brought you these new options here. These are all going to have that nice form fitting bust, but will flow around you."

Adrianna, I think that was her name. I felt bad, I should remember her name after how many painful hours we'd spent together, but I just didn't. She was going to be Adrianna to me though. I blamed the pregnancy.

"But they're just so... frilly." I wrinkled my nose.

"Your options are form fitting or frill. You don't want to show off the baby bump, then you go with frill. You don't want frill, then you go with the mermaid dress." I could tell she was near the end of her rope with me. I didn't blame her one bit.

"But I'll look like a giant blimp in a mermaid dress."

"Then you go with frill!" Adrianna cleared her throat and looked to the floor, "ma'am."

I covered my face again. "Fine. I'll try it on."

Adrianna's shoulders visibly relaxed and she quickly grabbed two of the dresses full of frilly tulle. One had a bejeweled bust, and the other was lacey, both with long sleeves.

I grabbed the one with lace first, taking it into the changing room.

"Do you need any help, Miss Katarina?" Adrianna called behind me.

"I can dress and undress myself, thank you." I closed the door loudly behind me.

I struggled to get the dress on, but I definitely was not going to ask for any help. A sharp pain made it's way through my stomach again. I took a step back and a deep breath, rubbing my hand along the swollen bump. I held the dress back up, carefully stepping into it, making sure not to step on one of the hundreds of layers of tulle. I then wiggled it up until I could work one arm through and then the other.

There was no way I was going to be able to zip the darn thing on my own though, that I knew. But I looked in the mirror, the thin layer of lace covering my arms, coming to a point on the back of my hand. The lace moved into the frilly tulle which I wasn't a huge fan of, but I had to admit everything together did look stunning. And better yet, I looked stunning in it.

"You win! I've made my decision."

"Are you sure?" Adrianna's voice shook as if she were already kicking herself for saying those words and getting her hopes up.

"Yes, I'm sure. Will you zip it up for me?"

Adrianna burst through the door straight away, eagerly zipping the back of the dress for me.

"Oh Miss Katarina, it looks beautiful."

"It does, doesn't it?" I slowly turned in front of the mirror, looking over every inch. "It's the one."

Adrianna's face lit up and she pulled me out of the changing room. "Okay, I will need you to stand still right here while I get all of the measurements to see what needs altered.

She picked up one arm and then the other, thoroughly looking both of them over. Apparently the length was adequate. She grabbed a bunch of the fabric around my rib cage, or what little fabric there was to grab. She then knelt down and started pinning the bottom of the dress.

"Perfect. There aren't many changes to make at all. Just bringing it in slightly up top and a couple inches shorter at the bottom." She smiled as she stood up, but it quickly fell. "You do know that there cannot be a change in decision after this point. There is no time."

"I completely understand. Thank you for all of your help. I'm sorry to be such a trouble."

"Please Miss Katarina, my family has been fitting the Granger's for generations. You are no more a trouble than they have been. Even better than his uncle was."

I hadn't heard much about Rafe's family before. But there was a little piece. He'd had an uncle, who was apparently even more a pain in the ass to dress than I was.

"I still really appreciate it. I'll leave you alone now."

"I will have this ready for you first thing in the morning Miss Katarina."

I smiled and then went back into the changing room to get out of the dress and into some real clothes. I only had five minutes before I was supposed to be meeting Rafe for lunch.

Running was completely out of the question, so I waddled as fast as I could out of there. Thankfully Ty was waiting with a car running. He opened the door for me and slid inside.

"Thank you, Ty." I let out a loud sigh.

"Was it really that rough? Please tell me you finally picked one so Adrianna can finally rest."

Aha! So that was her name.

"Yes, I picked one. I'm not good with choices. I thought this was going to be easy. Everything else has a particular order, color, setting. Why can't your pack have a set dress as well?"

"Our pack prides itself in the surprise of the Alpha seeing his Luna for the first time in what she decides to wear. It has been tradition for many, many generations. With everything else having littler personalization it was our way of giving the woman something to call her own."

"Well how kind of you. I just don't like having to make decisions like that."

"It's over now and everything else will be over after tomorrow night. Good news, it looks like there will be clear skies and very little wind, so it should be the optimal setting for the ceremony."

"Wouldn't want anything to go wrong." I rolled my eyes, but I knew it was important for everything to be as perfect as possible. Every piece of the ceremony was integral and a sign of what the rest of "'til death do us part" could go.

"Rafe wanted me to let you know that he set up another appointment for you after lunch. They want to keep a close eye on everything." Ty parked the car.

"Thank you, Ty."

He got out of the car and walked around, opening the door for me. We went into the house, making our way to the dining hall. I could already smell the steak.

"Good news, she picked her dress, alterations should be made in time, and she is aware of the appointment."

"Thank you Ty."

Ty nodded his head and made his way back out.

Rafe stood up and pulled out a chair, gesturing for me to sit down.

The food came almost immediately, and it looked just as good as it had smelled.

"Preparations are nearly complete. They will finish setting up chairs for the ceremony this afternoon, and then tables and chairs will be set up for the celebration tomorrow morning. The menu was refined and food preparation is already under the way. Everything has been taken care of just as I said it would be." Rafe smiled as he scooted his chair back in.

"That is good to know, because if there wasn't food I don't think I could marry you." I smiled and took a large bite of mashed potatoes.

"And that would absolutely devastate me." Rafe leaned over and kissed my cheek.

The rest of lunch was talk of action plan for the next twenty hours. Each hour was planned out, there was no room for diversion.

I finished the last of my food and Rafe stood up. "I don't mean to rush you, but we really must be on time for your appointment.

I nodded and stood up, grabbing his hand as we made our way to the office of Mrs. Greene.

"Up on the table please," she said as soon as she walked into the room.

I ungracefully got onto the table, putting my feet in the stirrups and assuming the position I knew all too well by this point.

Mrs. Greene put the jelly on my stomach, taking the ultrasound to start.

"Looks like one active baby," she said, showing the image on the screen.

"He definitely is." He never wanted to give Mommy a break. He particularly liked dancing around late at night.

"Well, everything looks good there. He's a full baby, which is what we figured we would be looking at. Let's take a look down below to see what we're dealing with."

She turned the screen off and put all the machinery away before making her way down by my feet.

"Huh," she said.

"What?" Rafe grabbed my hand. "Is that good or bad."

"It's just interesting. She's about two centimeters dilated already."

"And what does that mean?" He asked again.

"It means that her body is already preparing for labor. Three to four centimeters is when labor typically begins." Mrs. Green moved her chair and took her gloves off throwing them away.

I couldn't say anything. I couldn't think straight. He could be here any minute. Labor was right around the corner. I hadn't even known this man a full year, and here I was about to marry him tomorrow and have his baby any minute.

"What do we do?"

"Are you looking to speed up the process or slow it down?"

Rafe just glared at her.

"Right, slow down. Unfortunately, there's nothing you can really do to slow down the process, and this is going to come much faster than it would normally if the rest of the pregnancy is any indication. Just avoid sexual intercourse and exercises meant to open you up."

All I could do was nod. There were no words for what I was feeling. There were no coherent thoughts in my mind.

Rafe and Mrs. Greene continued to talk to each other as I got ready to leave. I walked out of the office in a daze.

"Kat. Katarina!" Rafe grabbed my hand and turned me around. "Are you okay?"

"Okay? Okay! Rafe, I'm about to have a baby. This thing, right here," I pointed to my stomach, "it doesn't want to stay in there. It really doesn't. I've barely had the time to wrap my mind around the fact that I was going to be a mom, and it's ready to come out. And that's if I even get the chance to be a mom. My life has changed so much in no time at all and I don't know what to do. I lost my pack, found a mate, was held hostage and then got pregnant. My life has been far from okay for a while."

Rafe pulled me into a hug, his embrace filling me with comfort in that way only he could do. It seemed impossible, but my fear slowly ebbed away in that hug.

"I know. And I'm not going to tell you everything will be fine, but I will tell you I'm going to be here for you every step of it."

"And that's all I can really ask for." I wiped at my face, getting rid of the couple tears that had started to fall.
