《Crossing Boundaries| Bellamy Blake》11| Mental Over Matter

It was the middle of the night and Bellamy was just now walking back to his tent. He had to reassure everyone that everything was going to be alright after they had just witnessed the Exodus ship explode. It took a lot of convincing but eventually, everyone went back to their tents.

Bellamy was taking off his gun when he heard a small shuffle near his bed. "Bellamy." He pointed his gun at the voice. Cattleya held up her hands in surrender. "I'm by myself, Bellamy." Cattleya said eyeing the gun in his hands. "Put it down." Bellamy still held his gun up.

"Prove it."

"When have I ever lied to you." She argued.

"Gives them more of a reason to send you." Bellamy argued back.

"My people aren't exactly happy with me right now." Cattleya stated trying to convince him but Bellamy didn't lower his gun.

"Why are you here?" He asked through his teeth.

"I came to warn you about Anya." Cattleya slowly lowered her ams. "She officially declares war on Skikru tomorrow."

"Of course she did. You got what you wanted."

"What I wanted?" Cattleya nearly shouted. "What I wanted was peace. I'm the one who convince Anya to talk to you guys. Your people shot first."

"Did you come here to argue?"

"I came here to warn you."

"Why do you care so much, Cattleya?" Bellamy asked.

"I just-" Cattleya was frites of answering that question, so she interrupted herself to hand Bellamy the small bag of fruits and sweets she packed. "Here." Bellamy cautiously lowered his gun taking the bag from her hand and looked inside. "I want a truce between you and me." He raised an eyebrow at Cattleya; she looked at him in disbelief. "They're not poisonous, Bellamy."

"Then you eat one." He stated.

"Fine." Cattleya began to reach in the bag but Bellamy pushed her hand away.

"No, I'll pick." He reached in the bag and came out with various fruits. Bellamy placed the fruits in her hand. Cattleya dramatically put the fruits in her mouth before beginning to chew. After she swallowed, Cattleya showed him the inside of her mouth.

"Happy?" He lowered his face to hide the small smirk on his face. "I'll try to help your people as much as I can but you have to trust me."

"I killed you." Bellamy unexpectedly said. "You have no reason to trust me."

"...I know. But, you also brought me back to life." She added. "You didn't have to do that. Why did you?"

"I didn't have an option."

"Yes, you did. I wouldn't be here bothering you if you didn't."A small silence grew as they stared at each other.

"Did you tell your leader I killed you."

"I didn't tell anyone."

"Why didn't you?" Bellamy said.

"Because, I know Anya. She would've asked all of Trikru to come slaughter your people, if she knew. You'd all be dead, but now, you're people have a fighting chance."

"What is it with you and wanting to make peace so much?"

"I don't know...maybe because your people are just trying to survive just like we all are. I've been fighting since I was a kid and I'm tired of it." Cattleya didn't understand why Bellamy kept questioning her. She's done everything she can to try to gain his trust. "But since your so adamant, I could kill you right now."

"You wouldn't do it." He said.

"I will if I have too, but I don't want to. I need you just like you need me." Cattleya stated. Another silence grew in Bellamy's tent. "So do you agree?"

"Whatever." He mumbled, looking down at the food in the bag.

"Good. You should eat the blackberries first." Cattleya suggested. Bellamy raised an eyebrow. "They're not poisonous, Bellamy." She rolled her eyes making him smile. "They're my favorite." He picked out what he assumed was a blackberry and showed it to Cattleya for approval. She nodded and he popped the fruit in his mouth. As soon as he bit down, the juice filled his mouth. It oddly bitter and sweet at the same time making him squint in response. Cattleya noticed his face and let out a small laugh.

"Why'd you bring food?" Bellamy asked slightly amused.

"Food always makes things better." She smiled. "My dad always gave me blackberries to make me feel better." Bellamy stuck out his hand with a few blackberries and placed them in her hand.

"It's yours, Bellamy, you don't have to share."

"I'm used to sharing." Bellamy shrugged it off. He shared with Octavia his whole life. "If we're not...necessarily enemies anymore," Bellamy put down the bag on his cot and picked up a clean cloth near his bed. "then you should take off your face paint."

"Only if you place your weapon away." It hardly seem like an equal trade, but Cattleya felt more comfortable with her face paint on and Bellamy felt more comfortable with a gun in his hands.

They watched each other take off their most comfortable attribute about themselves.

Cattleya woke up fairly happy from her tent. It had been a while since Cattleya had a decent conversation with anyone and Bellamy had given her that. She spent a few hours in Bellamy's tent just talking, but it had made her whole night. Cattleya was lighter.

She wore her mothers dagger belt, that Bellamy had returned to her last night, around her waist. But the second she stepped out her tent, Cattleya was already being called. "Cattleya!" Her head turned towards Anya's voice.

"You're having breakfast in my tent." She walked behind Anya to her tent. Cattleya immediately made eye contact with Xerxes when she entered the tent. She ripped her eyes away from his gaze and smiled at Tris eating near Anya's table.

"Good morning." Cattleya stated aloud as she picked at the food available.

"We are all here to discuss training and a plan against the Sky People." There went Cattleya's mood. "They have weapons we have never fought against. We need to train harder and come up with new tactics. Cattleya, you will come up with a new strategy based off the Sky People's strengths and weaknesses. Xerxes will help train them." Anya continued to command other leaders of the camp before turning her attention to Cattleya.

"I hope you're enjoying your breakfast." Anya sarcastically said.

"I am, whoever cooked did an amazing job." Cattleya joked making Tris giggle. She winked at the young girl but Anya still had a straight face.

"Have you come up with a training plan, yet?"

"Anya, I'm still eating." Anya slammed her fist against the table making every else flinch but Cattleya. Cattleya grew up with Anya. Her sudden outbursts stopped effecting her years ago.

"Cattleya, this is serious!"

"I am taking this serious but everyone needs to eat first. You don't want everyone being sent to a healer for fainting." Anya deeply inhaled a fresh of breath air. She knew Cattleya was right and she hated it.

"Fine, continue eating." Anya said through her teeth.

"That's all I asked for." Cattleya smiled at Anya and chewed on a piece of meet.

"You shouldn't talked to Anya like that." Xerxes said to Cattleya. They were both walking out of Anya's tent to begin training for the day. "You're making Tris believe it's okay to talk to her leader in that manner." Cattleya rolled her eyes.

"Anya hasn't said anything about it, and the last time I checked I take my commands from Anya, not you." Cattleya turned her attention back towards the other training leaders. "The Sky People have machines we've never fought against. These machines are faster and can shoot from long distances."

"Like an arrow?" A leader asked.

"No," Cattleya shook her head. "better than an arrow. Smaller and deadlier than an arrow. We have to waste their resources from the machines which means a lot of running."

"Running?" Another leader asked.

"Yes, based off how the machines are used, they work better when a person is in steady movement rather than when a person is in sporadic movement. So, continuous running between destinations will waste their resources. Technology is their strength but physical combat is their weakness. That's our advantage."

"We'll work on physical combat today. Go off into groups." Xerxes said. "Let's go!"

Everyone was drenched in sweat by mid-evening. The sun was setting and it was time for everyone to wind down. Xerxes and Cattleya reported back to Anya. "Physical combat and endurance." Xerxes said. Anya raised an eyebrow at the two.

"Endurance?"

"Yes, we need to learn how to outlast the machines the Sky People have." Cattleya explained. "We can't fight them if they still have their technology. They'll kill us."

"Very well. You may return to your duties, Xerxes. Cattleya stay." Anya dismissed Xerxes and waited until he left her tent completely. "I know you hate fighting, but I want to thank you for standing by your post."

"It's my job, Anya. I do take it seriously. You commanded me too, so I will do as you command what ever the conditions."

"Cattleya, your opinion matters to me." Cattleya simply nodded her head and waited until Anya dismissed her. She didn't walk back to her tent but instead to a pond a few yards behind camp. She wanted to clear her mind.

Cattleya took off all her clothes and placed them near dry ground. She submerged herself completely before floating to the top. Cattleya didn't care if anyone saw her. It helped her pretend like she was the only one in the world. There no one or nothing to worry about. It was her, the water, and the sun.

Cattleya let herself dry off before putting her clothes back on. She sat down on a large rock wringing out her damp hair and relaxed for a bit. She hadn't had time to think to herself in a while. Cattleya wouldn't dare close her eyes out in the open alone, so she gazed into the forest and listen to the animals around.

Cattleya put her damp hair in a braid before putting her clothes back on. She gathered all her weapons and headed back towards camp. The sun was beginning to cooling the air around her. Cattleya returned to her tent taking off all her excess weapons. Looking at her weapons made Cattleya think of Octavia. If Octavia was to become a warrior she needed a proper weapon. Cattleya was positive the camp had more weapons than they could count. No one would notice one was missing.

The weaponry tent was located near the training center. Cattleya decided a sword would be best for Octavia; she knew the young girl would be great at physical combat. There was only one sword that caught Cattleya's attention. The sword had small scratches but shone in the light like it had just been made. The blade was freshly sharpened and the handle was newly wrapped with leather. This was Octavia's sword.

After Cattleya ate dinner, she gathered some fruits and sweets in a cloth before heading back to her tent. "Who are the sweets for?" Tris's voice startled her.

"They're for me. Later in the night." Cattleya lied. Tris shrugged it off and sat on Cattleya's bed.

"I'm ready to start my lesson." Shit, she had forgotten. Cattleya looked up at the sky. She still had a few hours. She sat down on her cot in front of Tris.

"Before you learn to reach Locus, you have to understand what Locus is. It's place where no one can hurt you; a place you build in you own. It's yours and yours alone. Locus is a very hard place to reach and many people are not able to achieve it, so don't become upset if you can't reach it right away. It takes time, okay?" Tris nodded her head. "Locus is mental over matter. It's all in your head. You must build mental strength first. If you don't have mental strength, you will never reach Locus."

"Mental over matter." Tris repeated.

"Mental over matter."

Eventually Tris fell asleep in Cattleya's tent, so she carried her back to her own tent. She placed her necklace to the side, wrapped her blanket around her small body, swept the hair away from her frail face and planted a kiss on her forehead. "Goodnight." Cattleya had to move fast. The guards were changing shifts now. She swiftly made her way past the guards and quietly ran into the woods.

Cattleya stopped by Lincoln's cave first. There was a dim light in the cave. "Lincoln?" She whispered aloud. A few seconds passed and Lincoln walked out of his cave.

"What are doing here?"

"I want you to give Octavia something."

"You can give it to her yourself. She's inside." Of course, Octavia was here.

"You need to be careful. If Bellamy or Anya find out they'll-"

"They won't find out." Lincoln reassured her. Cattleya walked passed Lincoln into his cave. Octavia was sitting on Lincoln's bed flipping through his notebook.

"Hello, friend." Cattleya greeted her. Instantly, Octavia's face brightened and she wrapped her arms around Cattleya's neck. Cattleya tightly hugged her back. "I got something for you." Cattleya moved the sword case strap over her head into her hands and held it out to Octavia. Octavia gripped the handle of the sword and slowly took it out of its case.

"Your sword?" Octavia gasped.

"Your sword." Cattleya corrected. "We had a few extra swords laying around camp. When I saw this one, I thought of you." Octavia went to hug Cattleya again but Cattleya quickly stopped her. "Be careful. You'll cut someone's head off." She joked.

"Oh, right!" Octavia laughed it off. She put the sword back in its case and properly hugged Cattleya.

"I figured if you're training to be a warrior why not have a real weapon." Octavia felt tears surface in her eyes; she never had anything of her own. Her whole childhood, she had to share with Bellamy and this was hers and hers only.

"Thank you." Her voice squeaked. Cattleya hugged her tightly and knew Octavia meant it.

"I have to get back but I'll try to come by more often, okay?" Octavia nodded. Cattleya walked out Lincoln's cave passing him on the way out. "You take care of her." Lincoln nodded his head in agreement, and Cattleya raced back into the woods.

The Sky People's camp were slowly going back to their own tents. Cattleya traveled to the trees in back of the Dropship. She carefully jumped on top, climbed down and made her way to Bellamy's tent.

"So you have a horse?" Bellamy asked. They both sat side by side on the ground backs against Bellamy's cot. Both eating the fruits and sweets Cattleya packed. "Your own horse?"

"I do." Cattleya smiled as she grabbed another blackberry.

"What's its name?"

"He's name is Patroclus."

"Patroclus?" Bellamy asked with smile. "Like from the Iliad?"

"What's the Iliad?"

"It's a story, an Ancient Greek story. My mom used to read it to me all the time when I was little. You've never read the stories?" Bellamy noticed her eyes dodging his. "What?" He smiled.

"I don't know how to read." Cattleya admitted. "We always grew up drawing." She quickly added. "And with a English, I only know how to speak it not read it."

"You don't have to be embarrassed."

"I'm not, I'm just not used to feeling-"

"Inferior." Cattleya snorted at Bellamy.

"Sure." She jokingly agreed.

"How...how about I teach you to read." Bellamy hesitantly offered.

"You'd do that?" Cattleya looked into Bellamy's dark eyes. He had small dots around his eyes and nose just like she did.

"Yeah." Bellamy said.

"Holy shit, thank you, I have a few books in English! I'll bring them next time." She noted. "My dad tried to teach himself. He figured some words out, but he didn't have time to figure out the rest." She said. "Thank you." Bellamy watch her. He never expected to meet anyone like Cattleya on Earth.

"No problem...was it true about what you say about Anya bring all of Trikru to come slaughter us if she found out about me killing you."

"No, I kinda lied." Cattleya saw a small smile play on form on his lips. "She would've had all 12 clans come including the Commander to personally come kill you. If I'm being honest."

"You're that important?"

"No. I just have good connections." She smiled. "But like I said, I don't want that happening to your people. Everything works out better if we learn to live together."

Bellamy noticed her eyes daze off. Was she remembering something? "I never asked but how'd you sneak back into camp?"

"I know these woods better than you, Bellamy. It's my home."

"I would've done anything to grow up with so much air and trees everywhere. Not having to worry about having more than one kid or having to be floated over everything. There so much space down here."

"You might be wrong there. People love their territories, it's caused a lot of war...it's funny, I always wanted to go live in the stars. I always heard stories about people being up there and how some of them fell, but they always tried to tell us that it wasn't true. But now you're here, and that changes everything for us. How was it like being up there?" Her eyes lit up and Bellamy smiled.

"I wish I could say it was good. But like I said, Octavia wasn't supposed to be born, so we were always scared someone would find out because there wasn't enough space for us. There was never enough of anything for all of us on the Ark. There was someone always starving, or needing medicine or something. I spent a lot of time looking out the windows at Earth wishing I was here."
