《Crossing Boundaries| Bellamy Blake》4| Innocent

Octavia pulled Cattleya along by her tied hands as Jasper walked by Octavia side. Octavia held the two fingers and knife in her jacket pocket. The trio entered a large tent and Cattleya was quickly glared at by Bellamy. She rolled her eyes when she met Bellamy's. "What the hell is she doing outside of the Dropship!" Bellamy asked.
"This isn't about her." Octavia stated.
"The Grounder found something outside of the wall." Jasper said. Bellamy began to question why she was outside of the wall until Clarke interrupted him.
"She didn't run?" She asked. Clarke looked at the Grounder with scrunched eyebrows. She didn't understand why the Grounder didn't run when she had the opportunity too. She could've fought against Octavia and Jasper and she chose not to.
"I thought it would be a good idea if I took Jasper and the Grounder outside of the wall for a little walk. I thought if I showed some kindness to her, she could tell the other Grounders we're not here for trouble." Everyone remained quiet after Octavia's explanation. Bellamy continued to glare at the Grounder.
"You said she found something." Clarke said breaking the silence. Octavia reached into her jacket pocket, took out the knife and Wells fingers and gently placed them on the table.
"Are those Wells?" Bellamy asked. Both Jasper and Octavia nodded their head. Clarke quickly picked up the makeshift knife, studying it.
"This knife was made of metal from the Dropship." Clarke stated.
"What do you mean?" Jasper asked slightly afraid.
"Who else knows about this?" Bellamy asked.
"No one, we brought it straight here." Octavia said. They all looked at Clarke still studying the knife.
"Clarke?" Bellamy asked. Clarke moved her eyes to meet Cattleya's.
"It means a Grounder didn't kill Wells. It was one of us." She finally stated.
"So, there's a murder in the camp?" Octavia asked. Cattleya didn't have to know these people to know there was more than one murder among them. They were all disrespectful to one another. She quickly learned that when she saw a boy peeing on the back of another one.
"There's more than one murder in this camp. This isn't news." Bellamy sternly looked at Clarke. "We need to keep it quiet." But Clarke didn't care about what Bellamy thought because Wells murder was here and she wanted justice.
"Get out of my way, Bellamy." Clarke commanded.
"Clarke, be smart about this. Look at what we've achieved... the wall, the patrols. Like it or not, thinking the Grounders killed Wells is good for us." Cattleya tried her best to remain emotionless towards Bellamy's comment, but her ears began to heat up. Asshole.
Maybe telling their people the truth will actually teach them something or give them discipline. Cattleya would be the first to admit, that her people would do something like this, but not all of them killed just to kill. If her people were killing them off, killing them one by one wasn't their way. Her people had nothing to do with this. The evidence was there; weapon used to kill Wells was owned by one of the Sky People. Not to mention there was an engraving on it with letters.
"Oh, good for you, you mean." Clarke corrected Bellamy. "What... keep people afraid and they'll work for you? Is that it?" Clarke was daring him but they were both stubborn and Bellamy wasn't caving in either.
"Yeah. That's it." Bellamy said sarcastically. "But it's good for all of us. Fear of the Grounders is building that wall. And besides, what are you gonna do... just walk out there and ask the killer to step forward?" He joked but he could see the seriousness in Clarke's face. "You don't even know whose knife that is."

"Oh, really?" Clarke showed Bellamy an engraving in the knife. "J.M. John Murphy. The people have a right to know." Clarke pushed past Bellamy and stormed out of his tent. Bellamy quickly hurried after Clarke with Jasper and Octavia holding Cattleya hands, behind her.
♾
Clarke pushed her way passed people until she reached a pale boy with contrasting dark, eye-length hair. Clarke aggressively shoved John as she shouted insults at him. Cattleya studied John Murphy. She didn't like the way he looked at people, and she realized he was the one peeing on the other boys back. Cattleya didn't like him. She shouldn't judge him so quickly but she couldn't help it. There was something about him that rubbed her the wrong way.
"What's your problem?" John shouted. Clarke held up John's knife in front of his face.
"Recognize this?" Clarke had quickly grabbed the attention of everyone in camp. The Sky People were oblivious to the Grounder standing among them.
"It's my knife. Where'd you find it?" John tried to reach out for his knife but Clarke pulled it away.
"Where you dropped it after you killed Wells." John looked at Clarke confused. Maybe John wasn't the one to kill Wells. Maybe.
"Where I what? The Grounders killed Wells. Look, there's one right there." John pointed at Cattleya standing behind Octavia. "Why don't you harass the Grounder bitch yourself!" Everyone diverted their attention away from John to Cattleya. Her heart began to hammer against her chest. Cattleya was clearly outnumbered and if they choose to attack, she wouldn't be able to defend herself against all of them.
"The difference between you and that Grounder is she hasn't repeatedly tried to kill someone at this camp."
"That's because you haven't given her a chance. Why don't we take off those ropes and see what she can do." John challenged. Clarke marched over to Cattleya and untied the rope from her feet and hands.
Everyone watched scared of what the Grounder might do next, but Cattleya wouldn't kill a camp of innocent people, people who never meant any real harm. Especially, when they're all expecting her to fuck up. So, she stood there. Starting back at all the eyes that stared at her.
"She's less of a threat than you are." Clarke said. She marched back over to John confronting him about everything. Arguing and persuading everyone that John had killed Wells, even Bellamy had been convinced. Until finally, the Sky People had come to a conclusion: they would hang John for his crimes. Or float him in their words.
Yet, Cattleya recognized the look in John's eyes. John was scared, of course, he was going to be hanged but he was innocent. Cattleya had seen a killer's eyes and John, as much of a dick he is, he didn't kill Wells. "Revenge isn't justice." Clarke said trying to calm the growing riot she had caused.
Cattleya watched disgusted as the Sky People began to throw John on the ground, punching and kicking him. "No! Get off him!" Clarke tried to push people off John but she was the one being pushed back. "Get off him!" The Sky people vigorously dragged him out of the camp and came to a stop in from of a tall tree. "Let him go!" They flung a rope over a high branch then wrapped the end around John's neck.
"No!" Cattleya shouted among the riot but she was drowned out by all the noise. There were too many of them, too many of them that wanted John dead and they were too stubborn to even listen. Cattleya pushed her way to the front of the crowd with Octavia shouting at her to come back. She saw John standing on a black crate, his hands behind his back, a rag in his mouth and fear in his eyes.

"Bellamy, you should do it!" Someone suggested. Everyone began to chant Bellamy's name.
"Bellamy, don't do this!" John pleaded. "Don't-"
"Don't, Bellamy!" Clarke pushed at Bellamy's chest. "You can't don't this Bellamy!" Cattleya had enough of this. She stole a knife, from one of the Sky Boys before hurrying behind the tree and climbing up to the branch that John was being hung under. Both John and Clarke were ignored by Bellamy's pride. Bellamy ruthlessly kicked the crate from under John. "No, Bellamy, how could you!"
"This is on you, princess! You should've kept your mouth shut!" Bellamy shouted at Clarke.
The tree was branch was shaking under Cattleya from John squirming body. "What the hell are doing! Cut him down!" Cattleya heard the long-haired boy shout as she crawled across the branched. "Charlotte, get out of here! Now!" He shouted at a little girl. Cattleya reached the center of the branch and started to cut the rope.
"Cattleya, get down from there!" Octavia shouted amongst the crowd catching the attention of Bellamy and Clarke. Octavia knew her name.
"Stop!" The young light-haired girl shouted. "Okay? John didn't kill Wells! I did!" The rope finally broke and watched as John dropped to the ground. She jumped down onto the ground next to him and loosened the rope around his neck. John breathed in a puff of air. No one paid attention to the Grounder, they were too busy looking at the murder. The little girl named Charlotte.
♾
Bellamy commanded a Sky Boy, Nathan Miller, to tie Cattleya's hands behind her back and her tie her feet no more than a foot apart, despite Octavia's protest. Miller stood next to Cattleya as they stood behind Octavia, Jasper, and Monty as they all stood in one crowd outside of Bellamy's tent.
They all waited for something to happen. For some answers. "Bring out the girl, Bellamy!" John shouted. John wasn't mad or angry. John was beyond furious and he wanted his revenge. He was going to get his revenge. "Bring the girl out, now!"
Monty gave a swift side glanced at Cattleya but quickly looked ahead again before the Grounder noticed. "Why did she save Murphy?" He whispered to Octavia.
"Why would I know?" She said back.
"She clearly trusts you more." Jasper intervened.
"No, she doesn't. I don't even know her." Octavia tried to play off.
"Well, she trusts you enough." Their conversation was interrupted by John.
"You want to build a society, Princess? Let's build a society! Bring her out!" John interrupted. Soon after, Bellamy stepped out of his tent to face the waiting crowd. "Well, well, well. Look who decided to join us." John mocked. Bellamy rolled his eyes and continued to walk forward.
"Dial it down and back off." He commanded.
"Or what? What are you gonna do? Hang me?" John snickered.
"I was just giving the people what they wanted." Cattleya let out small snicker. Was he being serious? This is who's leading the Sky People. Bellamy was so blind from his own pride, that he didn't see that this camp was falling straight into ditch. They're all going to end up killing themselves.
Cattleya was so lost in her own thoughts she didn't see what was coming next. John picked up a log hitting Bellamy in the back of the head. Bellamy fell straight onto the ground. Octavia went to attack John but Monty held her back. Jasper decided to stand up for her and go after John, but he quickly got punched in the face. Cattleya caught Jasper as he fell back from impact. She and Monty sat Jasper on the ground and pinched the bridge of her nose tightly, demonstrating to Jasper on what to do with his nose bleed. Cattleya gave him a thumbs up and a quick nod. "Thanks." Jasper stated.
"Let's get the girl. Charlotte!"John ran inside Bellamy's tent only to realize he was too late. "Charlotte, I know you can hear me! And when I find you, you are gonna pay!" John shouted. "Come on." John and some of the other boys ran out into the woods:
Cattleya walked over to Octavia on the ground with Bellamy's head on her lap. Cattleya sat down next to Octavia as she caressed Bellamy's head. "Is he going to be alright?" Octavia whispered to her. Cattleya gently moved his head around and checked his eyes just in case there were any real injuries.
"He'll be fine but he might be dizzy and have a hell of a headache when he wakes up. Not to mention his anger problem getting the best of him." Octavia let out a small laugh.
♾
Bellamy woke up to his head pounding and an unfamiliar pair of beautiful honey eyes looking down at him. Bellamy used to think that Octavia had the prettiest eyes, it reminded him of his mom's, but these eyes were beautiful. Bellamy shook his head ridding him of his thoughts and he stood up. "Where's Murphy?" He immediately asked.
"He's gone." Octavia stood up and helped Cattleya up from the ground. "He went after Charlotte. Everyone was waiting until you woke up." Bellamy looked at the Grounder standing next to Octavia.
"Where's Miller?"
"I don't know."
"I need him to put the Grounder back in Dropship."
"Why? She helped-"
"She's the enemy, Octavia!" Bellamy hissed at his sister. "Just because she told you her name, doesn't mean you can trust her!" Octavia's eyes widened as she remembered shouting out Cattleya's name during the hanging. "And it sure as hell doesn't mean she trust you!"
"I know but I think I'm getting through to her." Octavia said.
"How do you know that?" Bellamy sternly looked at Octavia.
"I just do."
"That's not enough." Bellamy tightly held onto Cattleya's arm and dragged her to Dropship.
"Bellamy!" Octavia shouted running after them. "Bellamy, stop!" Octavia reached for Bellamy's arm but he shrugged it off.
"Octavia, I don't have time for this. I have to find Murphy. She," Bellamy aggressively shook Cattleya's arm he was holding. "is going back in the dropship."
"Let her help you. She knows these woods better than anyone else here. She can help you track Murphy quicker and faster than anyone else here." Octavia suggested.
"I don't need-"
"Yes, you do and you know it." Octavia and Bellamy glared at each other waiting for the other to cave in. Bellamy let go of Cattleya's arm.
"Fine, but she stays tied up." Octavia nodded agreeing to Bellamy's terms. "I'll be back. Met me at the entrance of the wall."
Octavia and Cattleya slowly walked side by side to the wall. "Do you think Murphy should kill Charlotte?" Cattleya knew what Octavia was doing. She was trying to figure out how she thought, how Grounders thought.
"My people have a saying, blood must have blood." Cattleya translated to Octavia. "Charlotte is old enough to know her right from wrong. She knows what she did was wrong that's why she ran. She's not innocent."
"So, you think they should kill her?" They reached the wall. Cattleya thought about what to say next without sounding too harsh.
"I think Wells should get justice but that doesn't always mean killing someone." Cattleya finally stated.
"Well, maybe you'll get to go home after this." Octavia said. "I'm sorry that you're getting caught up in all of this."
Cattleya shrugged it off. "This is nothing. Trust me, I've been through worse." They shared a small smile.
Bellamy marched his way to the entrance of the wall. He hated the thought of the Grounder outside of the wall especially knowing nothing about this Grounder, but she was his only hope of finding Murphy in time. Bellamy gripped onto Cattleya's arm. "Good luck." Octavia said to the both of them.
"Let's go."
