𝓕or three days Anastasia has been tied to the drop ship helping Jasper, and everyday his pain seemed to worsen. She knew their wasn't anything she could do, without any type of modern medicine practice. She doesn't even know how to cure anyone without the help of antibiotics and surgery tactics that at this point were unable to be done.
"His pulse is 380" Anastasia said as Clarke and Monty sat with her, the night seemed to be one of the worst for Jasper as he moaned loudly and constantly at his pain. Anastasia was growing desperately tired. 3 days being constantly awake and caring for someone who was for the most part unconscious was draining.
"Go back to sleep!" One of the kids trying to sleep in the drop ship shouted. It seemed that many kids who found refuge in the drop ship at night shared their hatred for Jasper.
"Quiet!" Another kid shouted from the drop ship. As they turned in their beds trying to drown out the moaned.
"Hey don't listen to them, you're going to make it through this, okay?" Anastasia said brushing her fingers through his hair, "promise" she croaked out, with a slight smile.
"Can he just die already!" Another kid yelled, Anastasia looked at Jasper. He was suffering but still alive, barely but he fought harder than anyone she knew.
"I'm gonna get clean water"Anastasia said standing up, "keep and eye on him" she added to the two sitting next to her as she headed down the ladder.
Anastasia heard the annoying calls of the sleepless teens as she walked towards the drop ship doors. When she reached the outside, she was shocked when a scream echoed throughout the forest, it wasn't one of Jasper's moans, it was a little girls scream. Anastasia began speed walking towards the sound which was near the burnt out fire. She peered around the slope of a giant tree to find a little girl shaking in the base of the tree that was shaped like a crib.
"No!" The little girl screamed over and over. Anastasia walked over to the girl, laying a hand on her shoulder. She shook the little girl gently, colliding with the girl's flustered state. As she shot up flipping her head around abruptly to face Anastasia.
"It's just a dream" Anastasia said staring at the girl who was utterly afraid. She personified how Anastasia was feeling on the inside, the part of herself she wasn't allowed to show to the others, "You're Charlotte right?" Anastasia asked the girl, and she replied with a quick nod, "I'm Anastasia, but my friends call me Ana" she said
"Yeah i know" Charlotte replied bitterly trying to move away from Ana.
"It's okay to be scared" Anastasia continued comforting the girl "Do you want to talk about it?" She asked, with a whispered as the others around her were voicing their discomfort.
"It's my parents" the little girl quickly opened up, "They were floated and I see it in my dreams and I just" the girl said breaking out into tears again.
"I understand, my mom was floated too" Anastasia said putting a calming hand on the girl's arm. "So, how'd you end up here" Anastasia asked changing the subject.
"Well they were taking my parent's stuff to the redistribution center and I kind of lost it" Charlotte began, "They say I assaulted a guard" she explained with a side eye.
"I can't say I blame you, they have it coming" Anastasia joked nudging Charlotte to the side with smile. "See that bright star up there?" Anastasia asked pointing to the only moving star in the sky, "that's the Ark orbiting above us, i think whatever happened up there, you know, the pain maybe we can move past that now, maybe being on the ground is our second chance" Anastasia stated breathing deeply as she looked up towards the dark sky.

"Do you really believe that?" Charlotte asked looking at Anastasia before turning her head back up to the sky.
"I'm trying to" Anastasia answered before putting Charlotte back to bed.
She walked away and began her trek to find some clean water, well really any type of water that hasn't already been diluted with Jasper's blood. She levied out a pail of water, making sure to not even pour it up to the top. She did it to conserve the little water they had, but she also knew her strength couldn't handle it.
"Princess, little late for the stroll" she heard as she reached the water pail, her head turned up to find Bellamy shooing off another one night stand out of his tent. She rolled her eyes turning her head back to the pail as she reached for the pail again.
"I'm getting water, for Jasper" she replied picking it up, struggling as the water sloshed around.
"Well let me help you" Bellamy uttered walking up behind her, as his body pressed against hers, he reached for the pail, as he took it from her hands, releasing the weight from her arms.
"Thanks" she replied as she walked in line with Bellamy, as his muscles flexed when he handled the pail.
"Beautiful night?" Bellamy asked breaking the quiet that fell over them, "Don't you think?" He questioned looking over to her, as Anastasia looked at him confused, "What?" He noticed her look, Anastasia turned away shaking her head with a smile on her face.
"Nothing" she remarked lightly, "Just didn't think that would be something to come out of your mouth" she added laughing suddenly, before getting herself together.
"I'm a secret romantic" he joked along as the mood died when the air was immediately filled with Jasper's moans, as they reached the grounds surrounding the drop ship. Anastasia face dropped as she could tell the pain had grown since she left. Bellamy noticed her sudden sadness as they reached the drop ship curtain. "You know the kid is dying, and when he dies you're going to feel terrible that you couldn't save him, but if you put him out of his misery maybe....." Bellamy started.
Anastasia quickly snatched the pail from him looking at him in disgust. "I'm not murdering him, Jasper is going to survive, he's stronger than any of us" She said walking into the drop ship and climbing up the ladder to Jasper.
The morning came suddenly after Anastasia fell asleep next to Jasper after tending to his wounds one more time. Anastasia woke up with Clarke already looking at Jasper, she had removed the poultice and started examining the spear shot. Anastasia scooted closer letting her fingers dangled on the wound noticing that most of it healed, which didn't explain why Jasper was still suffering.
"The grounders cauterized the wound" Anastasia said staring at Clarke on the other side, as Finn climbed up the ladder.
"Saved his life" Clarke admitted looking to Anastasia.
"Saved his life, so they could string him up for live bait" Finn stated sitting the the corner, "Garden of Eden this ain't" he joked sternly.
"This is infected" Anastasia said ignoring Finn, "he could be septic" she uttered worried.
"Any progress on using the wristbands to contact the Ark?" Clarke asked Monty turning around to him.
"Monty?" Anastasia questioned seeing him in a dazed state.
"Um, that would be a firm no" Monty replied looking at all the wristbands piled up on his desk.
"My mother would know what to do" Clarke said looking at Jasper shaking in pain.

"How's he doing?" Wells asked coming up the ladder on the drop ship.
"How does it look like it's going" Clarke snapped at him.
"Clarke?" Anastasia questioned looking at her inquisitively.
"Hey, I'm just trying to help" Wells replied putting his hands up in defeated.
"You want to help?" Anastasia asked, "Hold him down" she suggested as Wells stepped over to Jasper's side.
"I'm not gonna like this am I?" Monty asked and Anastasia sent him a quick nod meaning "no".
"What are you going to do, Ana?" Clarke asked holding down Jasper's arm.
"If it's infected, we're going to have to cut out the infected flesh or he's going to die" Anastasia said taking Clarke's knife to Jasper's spear wound. As she began cutting into him making him screamed out in pain. Jasper began to shake and move around.
"Hold him still!" Anastasia screamed, "I need to cut away the infected flesh"
Octavia burst into the room running by Jasper's side,"Stop it!" She screamed, "You're killing him".
"She's trying to save his life" Wells replied to the girl staying loyal to his friend. Wells knew that malevolence was Anastasia forte, so whenever she did something, she was doing it to help.
"She can't" Bellamy replied looking at Anastasia cutting Jasper's wound as he walked up the stairs stepping his foot on the third level.
"Back off" Anastasia yelled at him, "We didn't drag him through miles of woods just to let him die"
"Kid's a goner, and if you can't see that, you're deluded" Bellamy replied, making Anastasia stop cutting
"Sorry if Jasper's a inconvenience to you, but this isn't the Ark, down here every life matters" Clarke bit back noticing that Anastasia stopped cutting, she lended a hand on Anastasia comforting her.
"Take a look at him, he's a lost cause" Bellamy pointed out as Jasper's features were covered in death. Octavia's laid a hand on Jasper, protecting him from her own brother, but she looked to Anastasia, the last thing Octavia wanted was for him to die a painfully slow death.
"Octavia, Ana has spent her entire life watching my mother heal people, and I have too" Clarke replied, "if we say there's hope, there's hope"
"There isn't hope, it's about guts, Ana doesn't have the guts to make the hard choices, I do" Bellamy said calling out Anastasia's flaw, "he's been like that for 3 days, if he's not better tomorrow, I'll kill him myself" Bellamy said looping his hand around the ladder, he looked over to his sister still caring for her friend, "Octavia, let's go" he commanded her
Octavia looked back at him and with a straight face told him "I'm staying". Bellamy descended the ladder, leaving behind a stunned and angry Anastasia with a knife in her hand.
"Ana, Ana?" Clarke looked at her, "you okay?"
"Yeah, just give me a minute" Anastasia said standing up latching the knife in between her hands and scaling down the ladder to see Bellamy just leaving the drop ship.
"Hey!" She called out to him, "tough guy"
"What do you want princess?" Bellamy asked walking back into the drop ship.
"Jasper, he's my responsibility now, mine!" Anastasia yelled at him, "which means, nobody is going to kill him, not even you"
"He's dying, you can't see that princess, he's already is five feet in his grave" Bellamy replied.
"Shut up!" Anastasia shouted throwing her hands up "I don't care, he's a one of us, and he's not dead yet, we will save him" she continued "we'll save him" Anastasia said trailing off at the last part, trying to convince herself more than Bellamy.
"Anasta....." Bellamy started before getting cut off by Anastasia.
"No, Bellamy!" She stepped away from him throwing her head down "just stay away from Jasper" Anastasia uttered quietly going back into the drop ship.
Anastasia walked up the ladder feeling like the entire world had stopped, Jasper was still passed out and the infected flesh half cut off. Anastasia took her place next to the wound flashing the knife as she began cutting again.
"Ana? My brother's an ass" Octavia said lending a hand on her shoulder.
Anastasia had gotten the rest of the infected flesh cut off, and sat in the drop ship watching over Jasper as he slept with Octavia and Monty sitting by her side.
Clarke took the poultice thinking she could do something with it, and make it into an antibiotic but slowly Anastasia was losing hope. She walked as he shook in his sleep, his temperature skyrocketing making him boiling to the touch.
He was in the worst condition possible. Back on the Ark, Anastasia knew he would survive even with the medical supplies limit, he would make a recovery but on earth there was nothing to fix him.
"Ana? Anastasia?" She looked up to see Monty looking down at his best friend.
"Yeah?" Anastasia questioned looking up from the ground to met him.
"He's going to be alright, right?" Monty questioned, "Look i know what Clarke is saying but i want to hear it from you"
"He needs medicine, antibiotics, something, and if Clarke can't find it...."
"Oh my god! He's going to die!" Monty yelled.
"Hey calm down, Jasper's going to be fine" Clarke said coming back up the ladder. "Nice going Ana" she retorted before switching subject, "Me, Wells, and Finn are leaving to find red seaweed, it will save Jasper, so you three watch him and make sure that nobody kills him before we get back" Clarke said rushing back down the ladder after grabbing her knife.
Anastasia was cleaning Jasper wounds trying to find something to do while she waited for Clarke to arrive with the red seaweed. Monty was still trying to figure out how to contact the Ark with the wristbands struggling to even focus on it while looking at his friend, moaning in pain. Octavia was gently brushing his hair trying to bring any kind of comfort to him while he was struggling.
"I've never said thank you for, umm looking at my leg" Octavia said looking at Anastasia. It was weird for her to talk to Octavia, she knew her as only Bellamy's younger sister.
"I was just doing my job I guess" Anastasia added chuckling slightly.
"You know, you're not as bad as I thought you would be" Octavia said, "I mean from being the Ark's princess and everything i thought you would be stuck up" she quickly added correcting herself.
"Yeah, I get it" Anastasia replied, she knew how people perceived her, the Ark's princess, guards protecting her 24/7 and the entire Ark at her fingertips, no one could hear that and not image a power hungry child. "Actually it was Abby, Clarke's mom, that really was my rock, i mean after my mom, got umm, floated of course" Anastasia said turning her head away to dip her cloth back into the water. Soaking the cloth once again as she rubbed it on Jasper, focusing on getting out the blood stains the surround his chest were she cut out the infected skin.
"Oh, I didn't know that about your mom, my mom was floated too, and then I was throw in jail" Octavia replied looking down at Jasper, "why was your mom floated?" Octavia asked.
"Um, she was pregnant and my dad found out and floated her, he didn't tell anybody, he made up this story about her dying, but I knew the truth" Anastasia said, finally being able to speak her mind after all these years.
Her father kept her mouth shut, he said that if anybody found out, his title would be removed and I wouldn't be in line for chancellor. It scared her, well back on the Ark it scared her. She never wanted to be Chancellor but it was the only thing she could do and all the pressure for her to succeed.
"Oh god that's terrible, but i mean guess that means we have more in common that we thought" Octavia said stopping her comforting to sit up. She looked over to Anastasia, and she could feel Octavia's presence around her neck.
"Yeah, so what I would be Bellamy in my situation?" Anastasia questioned jokingly trying to lighten the conversation back up after if fell into a heavy ditch.
"Yeah, but you're nothing like him, you actually care about people" Octavia said
"He cares about you, Octavia, i mean he did something to get the guards uniform just to get down here to protect you" Anastasia spoke up, she weirdly felt like she had to stand up for Bellamy even though they're relationship is mostly arguing.
Anastasia actually thought that Bellamy had some good qualities, besides to fact of wanting complete control over the 100 and not wanting the Ark to come down. He cared about his sister, in a way only a brother could, and he was strong and decisive something that Anastasia lacked.
"You know, i heard about what he did, saving you from Murphy that one night, he doesn't just save anybody" Octavia said bringing up the night when Murphy tried to force off her wristband.
"It was nothing, honestly, he just wants to take off my wristband by himself, finally prove he has complete control, something like that" Anastasia uttered shaking her head at any thought that Bellamy could actually care for her. He did almost try to kill her by letting her fall into the pit, but they he saved her twice after that, and also gave her food.
"Don't mind him, he only acts that way with people he cares about, I should know" Octavia replied noticing Anastasia reluctance to accept Bellamy affection.
"I don......" Anastasia began before she was spooked by a slam of multiple doors. The rush of people infiltrated the drop ship creating a lack of space.
"What's going on?" Octavia asked standing up to create room and and ability to breath as it looked like the entire camp was squeezed into the drop ship.
"The air got thick, everybody's skin started burning" someone said as the last door shut locking out what looked like yellow fog.
"My brother's out there" Octavia said worrying looking at the steel door. She looked for comfort from Anastasia and Monty seeing her distressed face.
"He'll be okay" Anastasia said latching her arm around Octavia's shoulders pulling her into a hug.
"We'll all be okay" Monty added staring at the steel door in horror, like it was a movie monster coming to get him.

BODY&SHADOW
AN ILLUSTRATED NOVEL • UPDATES TUESDAY AND FRIDAY In a time before living memory, the King Dragon of the Void watched the world and realized there was a crack. He realized that humanity was destroying the rock upon which they lived; they leaked life’s code into the churning chaos. At first the change was imperceptible: nanites overtook microorganisms, bacteria, viruses, amoebas. Insects became increasingly inorganic; birds and lizards followed soon after. Even humans were infected by their own advances, cell by cell, till there was not a person left on earth who wasn’t at least part synthetic, the product of a prior generation’s carelessness. The world’s population was ravaged by mechanical viruses with no vaccines; they were mercilessly overtaken by bacteria that knew no death. Soon, most of the planet was empty and only a handful remained who remembered the hedonist realm they came from; only a few were left who remembered what the world looked like when their buildings touched the sky. The King Dragon of the Void watched the rock turn. He watched humans cower as the Old World fell down around them; watched their great monuments crumble into dusty ruins; watched their codes become precious, ancient gem memories forged under the crushing pressure of so many fallen stones. The world has spun many times around the sun since chaos swallowed man whole. It is a simpler time than the one that died out, but the people now are not immune to the folly of the people before. There is old code everywhere: in the water, in the air, in the trees. The heart of man has been replaced by power cores, many of which are hard-coded with preternatural abilities—when they die, an esoteric mountain sect collects their cores and stores them in their hollow mountain home to preserve the sanctity and dignity of human death. They’ve learned to harness artifacts of the old world, gemstones full of codes their nanite infused bodies can parse as spells imbuing their users with great power; they inlay them into their bodies, into their skins, connected to their cores by copper conduit and gold tracers; they dress themselves in tattoos to advertise their prowess; they battle for relics in arenas, fight for them in the open world wherever they are found. The King Dragon of the Void watches the rock turn and wonders: when will this hunger finally make the rock stop spinning? WELCOME TO FANXING CITY … Twenty-five years ago, Fanxing City and the surrounding lands were commanded by the mad King Zao Beiguan. For many years, the King hoarded wealth, artifacts, food; he demanded tribute from a people already taxed to the edges of their existence and expected they be happy with their circumstances. Noncompliance was often punished harshly, bodies displayed proudly on Fanxing’s streets as a warning, from the city gates to the Zao palace’s golden doors. The youths of several prominent clans came together to overthrow the tyrant and made names for themselves as legendary heroes across the land: Tian, Ren, Feng, Gui, Ma, and Zhenxi. Even wanderers from the Luanshi sect descended from Yunji mountain to aid the rebellion. When the dust settled after three years, Tian Yunyong ascended the throne of Fanxing and swore to honour his slain father’s memory, and has maintained Fanxing’s peace with generosity and mercy where fear and cruelty once reigned.
