《My Mate, My Luna》Ch. 23 Meeting the Alpha

The next morning came too quickly. I still wanted to sleep some more. I had gotten good sleep through the night, but I still dreamed about Tate. So, when I woke up my mood was a little less than happy. I am very much a morning person, jump out of bed and ready to go, however this morning that was not the case. I couldn't find any motivation in me at all.

So, there I laid in bed at 9:30 am reading a book. Yup, you probably guessed it, Romeo and Juliet . Why not be ready to love when you are nursing a broken heart? "That's it!" McKenna shouted, grabbing the play from my hands. "Out of bed! Get dressed! "

"I'm not ready yet." I responded as sternly as I could muster.

"I don't care, we leave for 20 minutes to meet Alpha Andrews and I have a very good feeling about the day. Don't ruin it for me! " She exclaimed, ripping my blankets off my body, grabbing my arm, and dragging me off the bed.

I hit the floor with a thud, "OW!" I yelled. "No need to be a jerk!"

"Then get your ass out of that bed! You are not the type of person who lays in bed all day and you are not going to start on my watch! " She said, "I refuse to let Tate ruin you. Now get dressed. " She said with a tone that meant business. This girl could be scary when she wanted to be, and when she got going you never wanted to be on the receiving end. With a glare on my face, I pulled myself off the floor and got dressed.

Five minutes later I was walking into the common room wearing a simple pair of dark washed skinny jeans and a dark hunter green blouse. I clipped my unruly curls on the back of my head, so they were out of my face, but falling down my back. "There, happy now? I am ready to go. " I said to McKenna, because I thought it was McKenna.

"You look nice." Said Tim in his husky voice. I opened my eyes, to see his deep brown ones softly looking me over, making me feel slightly uncomfortable. I made a mental note to myself that I needed to talk to him about things, I didn't want him getting the wrong idea. I was far from a place where I could even entertain the notion of being with anyone. Even though things with Tate and I were left in a pretty bad place I knew deep in my soul I wasn't ready to give up on our mate bond. And even if one day I did move on, I would never be able to sever the bond, it was impossible your souls were linked forever.

"Thanks" I meekly replied, "Where is Kenz?"

"Right here!" She said walking in from the bathroom wearing a cute dark blue sundress with white flowers and silver sandals. Her hair was flawless and so was her makeup. "You two ready to go? I need coffee and food before we meet the Alpha!"

"What are you all dressed up for?" I asked her.

"I told you! I have a good feeling about the day, so I am going to look the part."

"Okay then," Said Tim scratching the back of his neck. I guess he was feeling a bit out of place, "I know a great little coffee shop we can stop at." And he quickly turned to the door, as we exited the room, I checked to make sure that it was locked and followed behind Kenna and Tim to the Escalade.

An hour later we were pulling up to the pack lands that were held by Alpha Andrews. The lands were gorgeous, well taken care of. You could see how much pride the pack members had for their homes, which greatly reflected how the people viewed their Alpha.

Each yard was well manicured, perfect hedges, gardens, and white picket fences. Coming into the neighborhoods I could see that the trees were maintained, and the roads were well taken care of. This was a major difference from our pack, where most of our roads were not kept up very well and many of the houses were falling apart, especially as you made your way through the territory to where the Omega's lived. Like I said, the pack lands directly reflected the health of the pack.

It was my hope that one day, when Tate became Alpha, he would be able to undo and correct the damage that his father had done. My father used to tell me stories of the previous Alpha, Tate's grandfather and how the pack flourished under him, but when his son took over things began to change. Tate's father was more concerned with money, than providing for his pack. Wanted status over being a fair and just leader. I guess that is why I was a little less than surprised with how things turned out with our agreement, it was something that a sneaky Alpha would do.

The closer we got to the pack house the more anxious McKenna got, I could see her leg bouncing a mile a minute. "Kenna, calm down."

"I... I...I...can't..." she finally got out, "I am shaking. I don't know what is going on." She held out her trembling hand for effect.

"Take a deep breath girl. I have a feeling I know what is going on." I said coolly.

"Yeah, what's that?" She sassed back at me.

"You're gonna find your mate." Tim and I said at the same time. McKenna looked between the two of us and just shook her head.

"Nope. No, not happening today." She said adamantly. "I couldn't do that to you Jolly."

"Don't worry about me. This is about you!" I told her grabbing her hand and giving it a slight squeeze. This helped to calm her down a bit.

Tim, being the ever-curious friend that he is asked, "Why would you finding your mate be bad for Nemo?"

I rolled my eyes, "Can you two quit with the nicknames please?" Ignoring Tim's question, hoping he would forget about it, "Just call me Allison."

"Nope!" They both said together. I just rolled my eyes again.

I could tell was about to ask the question again, but we were pulling up to the pack house, so I jumped out of the car as quick as I could, dragging McKenna with me. He caught my eye and said, "We all have secrets Nemo. One day I will know them all." And he gave me a menacing grin.

As we rounded the front of the truck Tim was greeting someone. "Linc," turning back to us, "This is Allison and McKenna. Two of the students that will be joining the Wolf Studies program." Linc, who I was assuming was the Alpha, due to air of authority radiating off him. His stance was strong, and he had the same brown eyes as Tim, but his hair was a couple shades lighter. He stood an inch or two taller than Tim but had the same sharp jaw line.

The two men turned toward us, Linc locking is eyes with McKenna, "MATE!" He growled.

McKenna froze, her eyes locked onto his. After a few seconds I could tell she was not going to move, too stunned by the suddenness of coming face to face with her mate, so I did what any good friend would do. I pushed her forward.

As McKenna landed in his arms, I could see her physically melt into his side. I winked at her, "See Kenz! I told ya you were gonna meet your mate today." The two of them stood there together just looking into each other's eyes, honestly it was a bit unnerving and I could only handle a few seconds of it because it was making my heart ache for my mate, so I walked over to where Tim was standing.

"Well, that could not have gone any better." Tim said.

"What do you mean?"

"Oh, that... that is my brother, Alpha Andrews. Your friend is our new Luna." He said with a smile. I smiled over where McKenna was with her mate, my heart hurting for my lost love, but swelling for my friend and the new adventure that was in front of her. I knew she was going to make a wonderful Luna. The Haven Woods Pack were so very lucky!

Tim and I could not handle just standing there all day waiting for the love birds to finally speak or move, so we made our way into the pack house. The inside of the house was very cozy, warm, and welcoming. Tim took me to the lounge, where there were some people hanging out.

"Hey Tim!" One of the guys said, briefly looking up from the COD game he was playing. There were three others scattered around the room, two with their mates/girlfriends tucked under their arms.

"Hey guys!" He replied, "I wanted to introduce you to someone," turning toward me and pulling me toward the front of the room, "This is Allison, she is one of the students from the Wolf Studies program."

"Hi Allison," they chorused back, I just waved a bit of embarrassment spreading across my face from being put on the spot.

I made my way over to an empty spot on one of the couches, Tim choosing to sit next to me. I sat in silence for a few minutes until one of the girls spoke up, "Hey Allison, I am Missy. Nice to meet you." She held out her hand, so I shook it.

"Hi" I said, looking into her honey colored eyes. She really had a way of making me feel instantly comfortable.

"I am also starting the Wolf Studies program this year. What are you going to be studying?"

"I am actually going to study medicine, I made an agreement with my Alpha to be the pack doctor. My pack is going to need one in a few years, I need school paid for."

"Really? That is a pretty sweet deal!" She exclaimed, "I am going to be a nurse. Maybe we will have some classes together?"

"Yeah, that would be nice." I smiled back at her.

"Oh, this here is my mate Patrick. Patrick is the future third here, once he finishes school this year, he is going to fully take over his position." She said pointing her thumb in his direction. Patrick was too absorbed in watching the game to even glance my way, so he just waved and grunted a yup at us. I am sure he did not even have a clue what Missy had just said.

Over the next hour I got to know everyone in the lounge and was having a pretty good time. It was nice to feel like I was part of something that I had more than one friend, no matter how much I loved that one friend, it was nice to feel welcome in group. This was not something that I had back home, people tried to avoid me, like they did all Omega's.

Suddenly, the Alpha appeared in the doorway with McKenna quite literally attached to his side. Her arms were wrapped around him in a death grip like if she even slightly let go, he would disappear. I smiled at McKenna, catching her eye she smiled back at me and mouthed, "OMG! He is SOOOOOO HOTTTTT!!!!" And finally let go to fan herself. I was not able to contain my laughter any longer and let it go. A few people turned to look at me.

Getting myself under control, I said "Sorry." And I did my best to look contrite, McKenna glaring at me with her I can't believe you just tried to embarrass me eyes. And I snorted, then quickly covered my mouth with my hand. Everyone seemed amused by my snort and all started laughing with me.

Finally, Patrick spoke up, "So what is going on Alpha?"

"I came to get Tim and Allision, so we could talk in my office. Give us twenty minutes and then Patrick and Nate, I want you to join."

I stood and so did Tim as the other two sounded back with, "Yes, Alpha."

As we walked into Linc's office, I was impressed with how comfortable and informal it felt, but at the same time spoke about a man that commanded respect. I sat on a chair in front of his desk, Tim taking the other one. McKenna opted to sit on her Mates lap. How I wish that was how things were for Tate and me, shaking my head I pulled my mind away from those thoughts. I couldn't afford to keep thinking about him like that.

Alpha Andrews addressed me, "Allison, sorry about our introduction earlier. It was quite rude of me. I am Alpha Andrews, but please call me Linc."

"Hi, Linc." I forced myself to not address him as Alpha. "Please do not feel like you were rude earlier, I would have not wished for you and McKenna to have missed your moment together just to greet me." I said with a smile.

Linc smiled once I said that, I think that my thoughtfulness toward McKenna made him happy, "Yes, meeting your mate is a special moment." He agreed with me. "Which brings me to the next thing I need to say, which is not going to be all that easy. Since McKenna is my mate, I am expecting that she stays here with me and not in the dorm room as you two had previously planned." I could see that McKenna was both excited at this, but also a bit sad as we had talked about rooming together in college for years.

I nodded my head in agreement, "I completely understand Linc. Her place is with you."

"Yes, that is true, but she will still complete her studies as she wishes to do, she will just not be living on campus. And you are welcome here anytime, we will make sure that you have a room here. McKenna has told me how much you mean to her." Damn, Linc was a true Alpha, spoke like someone far older than I knew he was. I wondered if Tate was going to be more like Alpha Andrews once he finally took over for his father. Wait, there I go again, stop thinking about him! I mentally scolded myself.

"I will say it is going to be sad going back to the dorms without you Kenz. But I am so happy for you." By the time I finished I was biting back tears that were threatening to fall. I knew that she could sense them, she always could. She left Linc's lap and walked over to me and wrapped her arms around me.

"Oh, I love you Jolly. I am so sorry things couldn't be different."

"I love you too Sweet pea." Using her nickname, which I was now not using anywhere near as much as I used to. "You have nothing to feel sorry for." I smiled at her. She walked back over and sat on Linc's lap, you could see he was happy that she was back with him.

The next several minutes Linc explained to me pack rules, what he expected, etc. etc. etc. You know the normal Alpha stuff when you have an unknown wolf come onto the territory. However, I think because of my connection to McKenna I was going to have a bit more leeway than most, not that I needed any because I wasn't one that like to cause trouble.

Then we discussed the dorm room and me now needing a new roommate, just then Patrick knocked on the door and walked in with Nate right behind him. Linc stopped our dorm discussion and introduced McKenna to Nate, his Beta, and Patrick, his future third. They bowed their heads to their new Luna as did Tim and I in show of respect for her and Linc. I was happy for and most of all proud of my best friend, she deserved all the happiness in the world and I truly hope that Linc doesn't let her down.

After the introductions Linc looked to Patrick, "As this is your final year of school, I know you were planning on staying on campus. That was until you met your mate, that is."

"That is true, Linc." He replied.

"Now that Allison here does not have a roommate, since my Mate," He grinned looking down at McKenna, "was her roommate. So, I was thinking Patrick, perhaps your mate would not mind bunking with Allison, and you with Tim. As they are sharing a quad room."

"Well I would have to ask Missy if she is okay with that, Linc. But I am on board with it. I know she really wanted to live in the dorms and was a bit sad that she was not going to get that chance." He replied.

"Good. Then it is settled. Allison will bunk with Missy and you will bunk with Tim." A smile spread across Linc's face. He was happy that he had solved a problem, well it really wasn't that big of a problem, since I could have bunked with any other female and been okay with it. But I was happy it was Missy, I got along with her in the short time that we had hung out downstairs.

Patrick stood up excusing himself, "If you will excuse me, I am going to talk to my Mate and being preparations for us moving into the dorm room. It has been a pleasure to meet you Luna." And he bowed to McKenna, and turning to Linc did the same thing, only saying, "Alpha."

Tim and I said our good byes, McKenna was going to stay with Linc tonight and come get her things from what should have been our dorm room tomorrow. Assuring me she would not be sleeping in his bed, oddly enough I did not believe a word she was saying, but I went along with her story anyway. Just giving her a sly smile letting her know that I did not believe a single thing she was saying.

I would be lying if I was not a bit sad that what we had planned was changing, there had been so many things that were different for me now. Things that I wish were different honestly, I was a bit jealous. But I was doing my best to keep that out of my outward emotions, not wanting to take away from McKenna's happiness. So, I did what I was best at and locked everything away, so I could pull it out and analyze it later when I was alone.

As we got to the front door to head out Missy came running up to me, "Oh, I am so excited! We are going to be roomies! Thank you thank you thank you!!!" She said, like I had had anything to do with it.

"Ummm... you're welcome." I said as more of a question than a statement not quite sure why she was thanking me to begin with.

"You have no idea what it means to me that I get to be in the dorms and have a semi-normal college experience." She spewed out quickly.

I smiled at her, "I wish I could take the credit on this one, but I think you are going to have to thank Luna McKenna." McKenna blushed as I said that, Missy turning around thanked her profusely.

"You are very welcome Missy. Just do me a favor though."

"Anything!" she promised.

"Take care of my girl there. She has had a rough go of it." Missy turned back to me, a flash of sadness in her eyes. I glared at McKenna, letting her know she crossed over the line in what she should have said. She mouthed sorry to me and shrugged her shoulders. I know she was not truly sorry, everything that she did she did to force me to deal with things, to try to get me to open up to new people. I just wasn't ready, I didn't want people's pity.

Tim pulled me from the conversation letting me know it was time to get going, Kenz pulled me in for one last hug, "You sure you are going to be alright."

I nodded my head, "Of course, Luna. I will be fine, I always am." And with that we left, with plans of seeing everyone tomorrow as McKenna moved out of our dorm and Patrick and Missy moved in.
