《Rebuilding (COMPLETE)》*Episode 24 (4)

A few days later, Anakin was packing to leave again. All the clean laundry was put away in his cabin, the engine had been tuned, and the hyperdrive checked. Artoo had gotten an oil bath and was ready to go. All that was left was to finish the letters for the twins and take off.
Padmé had already left two days ago. She was in Theed, managing business at the capital. The Star Destroyer orbiting the planet tended to add some extra stress to everyone's day, so she needed to be there to remind everyone that it would be gone before long. It was better than her being outside of Naboo's system, but the family still missed her.
As he was finishing the second letter, Anakin heard footsteps coming onto the Rogue. He panicked for a second, then realized it wasn't one of the twins. He relaxed and continued writing, and when Obi-Wan walked into the cockpit, he looked up and smiled.
"How are the letters coming?" he asked.
"Almost done," Anakin reported, "but I only started writing them this morning. I've been working on these," he explained, holding out two wooden charms on braided cords.
Obi-Wan took them and recognized them immediately. He smiled and sat down in the copilot's seat, studying the charms.
These weren't the first charms he had seen. When he first met Padmé and Obi-Wan, Anakin had carved two charms: one for each of them. Padmé's charm had been meant to bring her good fortune. Whether it actually worked or not was debatable, but she had kept it ever since. Anakin actually wanted to remake hers, but she refused to give up the original.
Obi-Wan's charm was meant to bring healing. Anakin had given it to him not long after Qui-Gon's death; before he knew that Jedi weren't supposed to have personal possessions. Obi-Wan had kept it anyway, but lost it during the Clone Wars. After Ahsoka and the Jedi Order died, Anakin had gotten his hands on a quality carving knife and picked up his old hobby. The first charm he made was another healing charm for his master. Obi-Wan wore it under his shirt at all times.

He had made other charms since then. He had made a charm for Sola, just not right away. It took Anakin a while to figure out which charm would be best for her, but he decided on one that meant 'to be whole.' As the only parent of the family who hadn't experienced loss because of war, she hadn't suffered nearly as much as the other three. Anakin figured it was probably best if it stayed that way for a long time.
For Padmé and Sola's parents, he had carved two charms that signified gratefulness. Ruwee and Jobal had been startled by the Jedi who suddenly joined their daughters' household, but they accepted them and took them in regardless. They were also the only grandparents Luke and Leia had that were still alive. It meant the world to Anakin and the others, so the charms were perfect for them.
Luke and Leia were the only Naberries who didn't have their own charms. Anakin had decided to wait until he knew what charms they should have but now seemed like the perfect time. He had carved different ones for each of them. Obi-Wan didn't know what these charms meant, but he knew they were different than the rest of the family charms.
"I figured since they're sixteen and headed off to boot camp, it was about time they got their own," Anakin reasoned. "I'll tape them in the letters once I'm finished."
"Good idea. You did well on them," Obi-Wan praised, rubbing his thumb over the carving. Anakin's carving had definitely improved over the years. When Luke and Leia were little, Anakin had carved wooden toy blasters and ships and lightsabers, as well as little figurines of some of the recurring figures from the Clone Wars. The family had used them to tell the twins stories when they were little. Now the figurines sat on a shelf in the library where they collected dust. The paint was fading too. Nobody knew where the toy weapons had disappeared to.
Anakin finished the last few words on the second letter. He opened his hands to Obi-Wan, who tossed the charms back. After checking which one was which, he taped the charms into their corresponding letters. Satisfied, he handed the letters to Obi-Wan. "Think you can smuggle these past the twins?"

"Shouldn't be a problem. Have you decided what you're going to do?"
He sighed, remembering his dilemma. Anakin had spent much of the past few days pondering whether he should start his 'search' for a new base location (although he had a feeling it wouldn't be much of a contest), or whether to take a couple of weeks to stay with the Jedi on Chopper Base. "I think I'm going to ask them. If Kanan and Ezra feel confident enough, I'll go ahead and leave, but if they need a few days of extra support, I'll hang around. I have to pick up Ahsoka's lightsaber, so I need to drop by anyway."
Obi-Wan nodded, not very surprised by his answer. Standing up, he said, "Say hello to Rex for me when you see him, will you?"
"Oh, shoot, that reminds me," Anakin realized, following Obi-Wan out. "Artoo! Come here for a second!"
They heard him beep from a different part of the ship. They met at the docking ramp, where Luke, Leia, and Sola were waiting to say goodbye.
Anakin kneeled down and started Artoo's recording sequence. "I told you guys that I found Rex, right?"
Luke's jaw dropped, right where Artoo could see it and record it. "NO, YOU DIDN'T!!"
"YOU FOUND REX?" Leia shouted, punching the air. "When was that?"
"Not long after I met the Ghost crew."
"DAD!!!"
"I'm sorry!" he apologized, raising his hands in surrender. "A lot's been going on right now! I guess I thought I had already told you."
Luke glanced at the astromech. "Wait, is he gonna see this recording?"
Shrugging, Anakin answered, "I was planning on it. I figured you would want to say hi."
"Sorry you have to deal with my dad again!" Leia told the camera, and Anakin facepalmed. Obi-Wan and Sola laughed, though.
"We're going to be there soon!" Luke said, smiling wide. "Four years, and then we're coming. Just you wait! As soon as I get there, I'm going to race my dad in an x-wing!"
Anakin took slight offense to that. "Oh, is that how it's going to be? You're going down, son."
"Bring it on!"
Shaking his head, Obi-Wan stepped into view of the camera. "It's good to hear that you're safe, old friend. Hopefully, I'll see you sooner rather than later."
"Bye, Rex!"
"Bye!"
Artoo ended the recording and chirped, assuring everyone that the file was secure. "Thanks, buddy," Anakin told him.
Quickly, Luke and Leia hugged the droid. "Have fun out there," Luke told him, patting his head. Artoo whistled happily before turning around to board the Rogue.
The twins hugged their father next. "Have fun at camp, you two," he said, squeezing them tight. "I'll be back after you guys are home, and you can tell me all about it. Deal?"
"Deal," they said, grinning at the thought of camp. It was going to be awesome.
Sola was next in line for hugs. "Good luck with your search."
"Thanks. You two have fun with the house all to yourselves," Anakin told her and Obi-Wan, who smiled at the thought. "It's going to be pretty quiet around here for the next two months."
"Tell me about it," she muttered, letting go. "I think I'm just as excited as they are."
"Hey," Leia complained, but Sola just gave her niece a wink.
As Obi-Wan hugged his brother last, he whispered, "Go take care of them, as you always do."
Anakin smiled, grateful for his master's belief in him. "I will." He let go and looked at all of them, particularly the twins. "Two months! Can't wait to hear your stories!"
"May the Force be with you!" Luke called, standing by Obi-Wan as his father boarded the ship. They all watched as he waved goodbye at them, slowly disappearing behind the rising ramp. Artoo started the engines, and Rogue exited the garage, flying toward the sky and out of Naboo's orbit.

The Shadows Become Her
A fantasy progression, a coming of age story, and a tale of revenge... Alvixia "Vix" Altorelli's idyllic childhood is disrupted in one tragic night when the duke's fanatics ransack the Altorelli home and imprison the rest of her family, selling them into slavery across the ocean. Vix soon finds herself fleeing for her life and her freedom, fleeing to the faraway city of Floria on an island ruled by the mysterious Nurass, Prince of Shadows. In Floria, Vix's sharp mind and talent for magic land her a spot at the Perdita Free Collegium, the world's greatest school for spies, saboteurs, swashbucklers, seductresses and, some claim, practitioners of dark magic... and that suits Vix just fine. If the Collegium wants to give Vix the tools she needs to save her family and get her revenge on Duke Orso, she'll take that deal any day of the week and twice on Saintsdays, even if that means making a deal with the Prince of Shadows himself. This is Vix's tale. Author's Note: Now that Writathon 2022 is over, updates will be on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays!

Keter
They called him "Keter"; The Top-Most; The Crown. An unsurpassable, unstoppable, unkillable soldier. Etched with a twisted set of morals and studded by an impossible drive for lachesism, Keter terrorized the world for ages. But time, you see, is a most patient thing. As sure as it gives, so does it take. Even the Crown saw the eternal spindle drawing on him. He blinked, for the last time, and saw a world anew. Synopsis. So, basically, I’ve gotten tired of all these stale mcs that keep popping up left right and center. Either they are painstakingly good-natured or horribly written ‘evil’ characters. So, here’s my take on the concept of a Villain. Someone ruthless, cunning, and not shy of seeking darker means to an end. Hell, as long as it’s effective, he’ll prefer the blacker side of business. The new world will be, like many others, one in a medieval-type setting with traces of magic and the like; though I hope to make better use of this than most others who simply steal ideas from classical novels or other sources.
