《Baby Daddy》33. Rita Skeeter

"Looks like we weren't the only ones who almost interrupted you two last night", Blaise joked when he saw the photo in the newspaper.
"Shut the fuck up Blaise, now is not the time for jokes", I spat.
I looked around the Great Hall and saw that at least half of the students had today's edition of the Daily Prophet as well and I could see that they were whispering to their friends and sending looks our way.
I stared back at the picture in embarrassment, knowing that almost everyone in the school had seen it. It was a photo taken through our bedroom window of me laying on top of Lilah, kissing her very passionately. Thankfully the sheets were covering up are bodies, but you could still easily see that we weren't wearing any clothes at all.
"I'm gonna kill that bitch", I said, referring to Rita Skeeter who wrote the article.
I then made the mistake of deciding to read a bit of what she wrote.
The Malfoy Son and Davis Daughter's Scandalous Proposal
Last night on the eve of December 4th, Draco Malfoy, the son of Narcissa Black and Lucius Malfoy proposed to his girlfriend Delilah Davis, the granddaughter of one of the most infamous wizards of all time, at only the age of 18.
He proposed in the courtyard of Hogwarts School for Witchcraft and Wizardry after he sent her on a scavenger hunt around the school. A comment from an insider who saw the event unfold said "He placed candles along the floor, creating a small aisle, and there were fairy lights put up everywhere. The girl was wearing a tight blue dress and the boy was wearing his usual suit. From what I could see from where I was standing, the ring looked absolutely huge and, after he put the ring on, they shared an intimate kiss and seemed to get rather comfy and he ended up carrying her back to their room."
It has recently come to our knowledge that at only the age of 16 they welcomed their daughter into this world, Indigo Rose Davis. There have been many speculations as to why she didn't take the Malfoy name, most of them revolving around the Death Eater activities that he took place in as of last year. But, it look like soon she will also inherit the Malfoy surname when Delilah Davis and Draco Malfoy wed.
It also seems as though we can expect another Malfoy heir soon anyway after their scandalous late night activities last night after their engagement, which we managed to snap of photo of (can be seen on the front page of this article).
We have been able to find out that ever since Miss Davis fell pregnant, she has been occupying an apartment in the infirmary so that Madam Pomfrey, the school nurse at Hogwarts, can help her and her daughter whenever. And, as of this year, Mr Malfoy has joined her and it looks like they have been making the most of their privacy as a newly engaged couple.

What do you think of their engagement? Do you think they will get through it and happily marry? Or do you think they will end up like Draco's parents, divorced and in Azkaban?
Rita Skeeter - The Daily Prophet
"What the actual fuck!" I said after I'd finished reading it. I slammed the newspaper down on the table and stood up, making sure not to drop Indie.
"What do we do?" Lilah asked, panic and embarrassment written all over her face.
"Let's go give Indie to Madam Pomfrey and then we have to go and sort whatever this is out", I said as I started to walk out the hall, Indie firmly in my arms, and Lilah quickly following behind trying to keep up with my large strides.
"Wait!" I heard someone say from behind me.
"What?!" I snapped and I turned around to see it was Grayson who had stopped me.
"I'll take her for you, so you can go as soon as possible", he said, walking towards us.
I looked over to Lilah and she gave me a nod, signalling that he would be fine looking after her without one of us around.
"Keep her safe", I said as I handed her to him.
"Of course, I'll never let anything happen to her."
"Thank you so much Gray, we'll be back as soon as we can", Lilah said before following me out the hall. I could feel all the eyes on us as we walked out, but I tried not to take notice of all the whispers that came with them.
"Where are we gonna go?" she asked when we got outside of the Great Hall.
"The only person I can think of the moment is mother, so I guess we'll go to her", I told her as I grabbed her hand, getting ready to apparate.
"Mr Malfoy, Miss Davis!" I heard from behind us, stopping me from apparating away. I recognised the voice to be Professor McGonagall so I turned around to greet her.
"I'm so sorry Professor but-", Lilah started to say but McGonagall signalled for her to stop.
"It is absolutely alright. I am in fact aware of your... situation", she said slightly awkwardly as she knew we would realise that she must have seen the photo of us in the newspaper.
"Anyway", she continued, trying to make this less awkward, "I would just like to let you know that I have talked to the other professors and we have agreed to let you have a day off of lessons today to go and sort this out."
"Thank you so much Professor", I said, before she walked off, then Lilah and I apparated to her parents house.
"Mom!" I shouted as soon we finished apparating.

"Oh, my dears", she said as she came rushing down the stairs and greeted us with a hug.
"Well, first I'd like to congrat-"
"Mom, can we do this later? We have more important things to attend to", I said.
"Sorry darlings, of course", she apologised as she starting walking away and signalled for us to follow her.
"Now, I've talked to a few people and I've managed to find out where she works", she began.
"Great, lets go then", I urged, just wanting to get the newspaper down as quickly as we could so as little people would see it as possible.
"But", she continued, "it's in a very busy area and people are already trying to find you two to ask questions, so it's highly likely that there will be paparazzi around."
"Of course there is", I rolled my eyes, "Always sticking their head into other people's business, where it doesn't belong."
She walked into an office and grabbed her copy of the Daily Prophet off the table and a few other pieces of paper.
"Okay, are you guys ready?" she asked as she turned back around to face us.
"Yes", Lilah spoke, "lets get this over with."
Mother grabbed onto both of our hands and apparated us to outside Rita Skeeter's office building, as I'm assuming we're not allowed to apparated into the actual building.
When we arrived, so many lights started flashing, taking photos of the three of us. Mom let go of our hands started walking ahead as we followed her. I grabbed on to Lilah's hand while using the other to shield the camera flashes, and I saw her doing the same. As we continued to walk to the entrance of the building, the paparazzi started bombarding us with so many questions.
"Can we except another pregnancy any time soon?"
"Why did you hide your daughter?"
"How was last night?"
"Where is Indigo?"
"Why are you engaged so young?"
"Do you actually love each other?"
"Show us the ring!"
"How does it feel to be parents at such a young age?"
"Why is Indigo's surname Davis?"
And the questions just kept coming. Lilah and I just continued walking, ignoring all the questions and not answering any of them until we finally reached safety inside the building. When we entered, we just continued to walk and follow my mother.
We stopped outside an office with 'Rita Skeeter' written on the door, so I knew we were definitely in the right the place.
"You two stay out here, I'll be out in a few", my mother spoke before knocking on the door and walking in.
"So, I guess it's just a waiting game now", Lilah said.
"Yeah, I guess so", I replied.
"She seems to know what she's doing, has she come here before?" Lilah asked as we sat down on the chairs that were placed outside the door.
"She had to deal with a lot of this paparazzi stuff when she married Lucius and when she was going through the divorce, so I guess she's just used to it", I told her.
"She's such a strong women, I couldn't even imagine having to go through a divorce that public while your husband is in Azkaban", she said, and I could tell she hoped that we would never have to go through that
"Well luckily you won't have to worry about that", I reassured her. I looked her in the eye and smiled, interlacing my fingers with hers.
About ten minutes passed and we were sitting in comfortable silence. Being parents, it was always nice to get away from everything for a bit or just sit without having to say anything, to get some peace and quiet. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely adore Indie, and so does Lilah of course, and we loved spending time with her, but every now and then we do need a little break.
Suddenly, the door to the office opened, breaking the peaceful silence, and my mother walked out looking very proud of herself.
"How did it go?" Lilah asked, standing up from her chair as I did the same.
"It's mostly sorted out. All the newspapers are being destroyed right this second, but sadly people will still have the memories of the... photo", she told us apologetically.
"It's better than nothing I guess, at least people won't have physical copies anymore", I said, trying to make myself feel better about the situation.
"That's exactly what I thought", she said as she started walking back down the corridor.
"What about Rita Skeeter? What's going to happen with her?" Lilah asked.
"She's on a 10 month ban until August 5th 1999 so I recommend you two get married before then, so that she won't be able to write an article about it and pester you."
As much as I hate to admit it, I had completely forgotten about the wedding with all of this picture business going on.
"Oh yeah," I said as I looked over to Lilah and smiled, "We have a wedding to plan."

Author's Note:
When writing this chapter, I realised I didn't really know what happened to Rita Skeeter after the war, so let's just say she still works the same job.

Of Men and Dragons, Book 2
Jack, S'haar, and all their family are back. After crashing his ship on an underdeveloped world, Jack found friends and family among the terrifying cat-lizard natives of the world, but now mere survival is no longer enough. They must carve out a new home for themselves in the landscape of the now rapidly changing world. Raiders, politics, and even nature threaten their happiness and their lives while they struggle to deal with the nightmares and traumas of yesterday. They'll need to depend on each other more than ever if they hope for their new home to have any kind of future. In case you missed it, here's book one. ATTENTION: This is soft sci-fi rather than hard sci-fi, hence why I chose that tag. For those of you unfamiliar with the distinction, here's what Wikipedia had to say. 1. It explores the "soft" sciences, and especially the social sciences (for example, anthropology, sociology, or psychology), rather than engineering or the "hard" sciences (for example, physics, astronomy, or chemistry). 2. It is not scientifically accurate or plausible; the opposite of hard science fiction. Soft science fiction of either type is often more concerned with character and speculative societies, rather than speculative science or engineering. The term first appeared in the late 1970s and is attributed to Australian literary scholar Peter Nicholls.

How hard is any of that?Well, for Jake Ranger, pretty damned hard. The world being a wild, crazy mess from a global altering event called the Shattering doesn’t help much. Then there are the actual outlaws and monsters. They don’t help much either. Mostly they just get in the way and make everything way worse. And in a world that is so screwed up decades after the Shattering, there is a lot of variety to both outlaw and monster. Then there are the more civilized, (read: sane), non-human folk, and good old humans as well. They all get along just spectacularly. Totally best friends, on every level, for life. Of course getting to the east coast is only half the battle. Once there, he must contend with the so-called “civilized people.” Then there’s the ship ride; pirates and sea monsters are a thing too, after all. Should have read the brochure. But when the chips are down, the bad guys are winning and the wild winds of chaos are blowing, it helps to have a fighter on your side. Even if he is a little wild.
