《Baby Daddy》24. Father

I jumped out of my chair and ran out of the room as fast as I could to go to Indie and Lilah and warn them that the Dark Lord now knew our secret.

However, before I could even reach the door, I felt a hand grasp my wrist, pulling me back and preventing me from going any further.

I turned around to see who had grabbed me and I was met with the face of my father, who looked angry, to say the least.

"Son, is there something you want to talk to me about?" he asked, even though he already knew so I don't know why he bothered asking.

"No, I don't think so", I said before turning around to walk out the door again.

But, again, before I made it out of the door his hand wrapped around my wrist, restricting me from exiting the room. "When were you going to tell me you had a daughter? And not just with anyone, with Delilah Davis!" he spat, demanding answers.

"I wasn't really ever planning on it", I spat as I tried to yank my wrist out from his hand but his grip was too strong.

"And why's that? What could I have possibly done to make you not want to tell me about your child, my grandchild?!" he said, raising his voice.

"Oh, I don't even think I could begin to explain what you've done to me. Do you think I wanted this? Any of this?" I said as I motioned to the Dark Mark on my forearm and the Death Eaters around us.

"You wanted to become a Death Eater so don't even use that excuse!" he said, now pretty much shouting.

"Yes, I did. But only because I wanted to make you proud and happy because I was fucking scared of you. I was scared of what you would do to me if I didn't. Besides, it's not like I had any choice did I? You got yourself locked up in fucking Azkaban, leaving me to do all your dirty work!"

"Draco, you're overreacting-", he said in an attempt to calm me down as I was shouting so loudly.

"Don't you fucking dare tell me I'm overreacting! I had to kill my headteacher of six years for crying out loud!"

"But you hated him Dra-"

"So what if I hated him? It doesn't mean I wanted to kill him, does it? Not everyone thinks like you! I was sixteen. Sixteen! And I had to kill one of the most powerful wizards of all time, knowing my daughter was in that school at that very moment. And I know what you're going to say, just because I didn't end up killing him myself it doesn't mean I was affected by it. I still have nightmares about that night and that Vanishing Cabinet. That stupid fucking Vanishing Cabinet that I spent all of my fucking time on, missing lessons, and mealtimes, and sleep."

"Draco, I had no idea tha-" he tried to interrupt me.

"No, don't say you had no idea! How could you possibly not notice the big, dark bags under my eyes, or how grey my skin had gotten from being physically and mentally overworked, or how much weight I had unhealthily lost from having to skip meals to work on the cabinet?"

"You know," I continued, "I probably wouldn't even be here today if it wasn't for Lilah or Indie. Because of them, I had something to live for. And you didn't even care. You don't even fucking care about your own fucking son!"

"I do care about you Draco, I-" he started, but I stopped him once again.

"Well if you really cared then why didn't you ever check on me? How come you never asked me if I was alright or if I was doing okay? Because if you did, you'd have known that I wasn't. No, I wasn't alright and no, I wasn't doing okay. I was suffering so badly and you obviously didn't even care enough to notice, or to even ask, so don't even attempt to convince me that you actually care about me because you don't."

"Son-"

"Don't call me son because you are no father of mine. Yes, biologically you may be, but mentally, you are not. In the end, family is who cares about you and who is there for you in your darkest times, and you have never done either of those so don't call me son, ever again. Now, if you don't mind, I'm going to go spend time with my daughter like a proper father would do, a father who actually cares about their child."

And with that, I ripped my hand so hard out of his grip that he came stumbling forward. I stormed out of the room, slamming the door behind me, not taking any notice to the crowd of Death Eaters that just watched whatever that was unfold.

For the second time that night, Draco rushed into our room looking incredibly panicked, with tears threatening to escape his eyes at any moment.

"I'm so sorry, there was- there was nothing I could do!" he cried, tears beginning to fall out of his eyes.

"Are you okay?" I asked, even though I could tell he wasn't. "What happened?"

"He knows, he knows about you and Indie" he said, his tears now streaming down his face as I went over to him to comfort him.

When he said this, I started to panic. "Who knows Draco?" I questioned, hoping it wasn't who I thought it was.

"T-the Dark Lord."

"What?!" I shouted, "How?" I asked not knowing what else to say now that the darkest wizard of all time knows Indie and I are potentially in the same building as him.

"Anna, fucking Anna, sent you some letters and he found them before you could get them", he spoke, obviously annoyed at my sister for ruining our safety.

"A-are we going to be safe?" I said, wanting to know if I could remain here with Draco or if I had to leave immediately.

"As far as I am concerned, you are. He said he wants to meet Indie though after tomorrow, so we'll just have to see what happens then", he said anxiously, as tears started to stop spilling out of his eyes.

"Tomorrow? What's happening tomorrow?"

"Oh, um- well, tomorrow is when it happens. Tomorrow is when he is going to try and kill Harry Potter."

The realisation suddenly hit us both. Tomorrow we go to war, both of us on opposite sides, even though we both wished for the same outcome. We wished that by some miracle, Harry would be able to defeat possibly one of the most powerful dark wizards of all time at only seventeen.

I knew that Draco didn't want me to come, but he knew that there was absolutely no way he was going to be able to stop me, much to his dismay, so he didn't even bother trying to as he knew he'd get nowhere.

"What are we gonna do with Indie?" he asked, breaking the silence. "Because we obviously can't take her with us to, you know, the... battle", he hesitated, not really wanting to believe that we were going to be involved in the one of the biggest Wizarding battles of all time.

"What did Anna say in her letters?" I said.

I could tell he was confused as to why I didn't answer his question, but brushed past that and answered my question instead, "Just stuff about how she's sorry and misses you, and how she hopes that she can see you soon."

After he said that, I rushed over to his desk and started scribbling on a piece of parchment. When I'd finished writing, I folded it in half and sealed it, then walked over to his owl who was in the corner of the room.

"What's are you doing?" he asked as I attached the note to his owl and sent him off to give it to the person that the letter was addressed to.

"You'll see", I said, slightly proud of my quick thinking.

A couple of minutes passed by of Draco pestering me to tell him what that was all about before giving up, when the person who I most wanted to see at that moment apparated into the room.

"What's wrong? I got your letter", Anna said as she walked over to me, giving me hug, and giving Draco a slight nod to acknowledge his presence.

And then I told her everything. And when I say everything, I don't just mean what happened tonight, I mean literally everything. From how Draco, Indie's real father, took me here to keep me safe, to Narcissa, to how Draco and I are now officially dating, to Indie, and then finally to how the Dark Lord now knew Draco and I's secret and that the war was beginning tomorrow. And, Draco even told us both about his argument with his father.

"Oh. My. Gosh", she said after I'd finished explaining everything. "And, where do I come into this or did you just call me here to have a little catch up?"

"No, so I'm assuming you're not going to be involved in the war, right? I mean, considering you're not in the Order or Ministry or anything and you don't even attend Hogwarts".

"Correct", she confirmed.

"So, since you're not going, I was wondering if you could look after Indie for us whilst we're, you know, gone."

"Wait, does that mean you're going?" she asked me, concerned.

"Of course I'm going Anna! Hogwarts is basically my second home", I said.

"Are you sure?"

"Yes, she's sure", Draco said. "And you might as well not even try convincing her because you will get nowhere. Believe me, once she's made a decision, she's made a decision and there's no going back on it."

"Well then, if you're 1000% sure, then of course I'll look after Indie. But," she continued "only if you promise to keep safe because Indie needs her mother."

"I promise, and I know Draco will too, isn't that right Drac?" I said, turning towards him.

"Of course, I wouldn't even dare to think of leaving my Indie", he spoke as he look over to her peacefully sleeping in her crib, having not even a single clue of what is going on around us.

Let's just hope both of us can keep our promises.
