《Baby Daddy》9. The Letter

To our darling Lilah,

It is no longer safe for you to come back to the estate this Christmas. The Death Eaters have been trying to recruit us for the past few months and it is far too dangerous for you to visit us.

We are constantly moving around to try and avoid the Death Eaters finding us so please do not come looking for us. Also, do not reply to this letter as it could risk us being found.

We're so sorry to have to write to you about this, but always remember we love you so, so much. If you need anything, just owl Anna as she is also aware of our situation.

We cannot wait to see you again, hopefully soon, and good luck with the baby. Again, we are incredibly sorry that we can't be there for you as we know you are going through a hard time right now. Good luck my darling.

Lots of love,

Mom and mom xxx

It was now a few days before Christmas break and I was staring down at the letter I had just received with tears beginning to glisten in my eyes. I guess I'm going to have to spend Christmas at Hogwarts then, for the first time in my life.

My thoughts were interrupted when I heard the door to my apartment opening.

"What's that?" Ash asked, pointing at the letter once she saw the tears in my eyes.

"Oh, it's nothing really. Just that my moms are busy over Christmas so I won't be able to stay there", I said, stuffing the letter in a draw so she couldn't read it.

"I'm sorry, do you want to come to my house for Christmas then?" she asked.

"Oh no, no. It's fine honestly, I don't want to hassle you and your parents. Also, it's probably better to stay near Madam Pomfrey considering I'm going to be full term in about two months."

"True. Anyway, class is almost starting so are you ready to go?" she asked, gesturing to my stomach to cover it up.

"Yes, just a sec", I said before putting on the charm Madam Pomfrey taught me when my belly started to get more noticeable, to cover up my bump so that no one else found out about my pregnancy. "Ready, let's go", I grabbed my bag and then followed Ash out the door to our first class of the day.

The next few days dragged out until it was finally Christmas Day. All of my friends had gone to spend their break at home with their friends and families so I spent most of my time alone, or with Madam Pomfrey. It wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be, the professors were more fun now that they were in the Christmas spirit, but I would've definitely much rather have been at home. However, I knew that it wasn't safe to got there so I just made the most of being at Hogwarts with hardly any students.

It was nice being one of the only ones here though, the hallways were always empty and hardly anyone was ever in the library, so I spent quite a lot of my time in there reading books I would've never gotten the chance to read otherwise.

Anyway, it was time for Christmas dinner, so I charmed away my bump and headed down to the Great Hall where I sat with a few other students who stayed behind this Christmas as well, and a couple of the teachers.

Everyone was wearing festive clothes, apart from Professor Snape of course, so it was actually quite a nice atmosphere, but not quite the same as being home.

"Everything okay this morning Delilah?" Madam Pomfrey asked as she sat down in front of me.

"Yes, everything's all good and normal", I answered back, not wanting to be too obvious about what I was talking about as other students were surrounding us.

"Good, lovely. Would you like to come and see me after dinner then, just to have a quick check?"

"Uh, yeah. Okay", I answered, worried that she was being too obvious, but I knew she wouldn't accidentally let it slip about my condition.

Noticing my slight uncomfortableness in front of the other students, she took that as her cue to leave and go and chat with some other students and teachers.

Recently, I have hardly been getting morning sickness as I am so far along in my pregnancy, but as I stood up I could feel a wave of nausea hit me, so I quickly ran out and to the nearest toilet. Thankfully, no one noticed my quick getaway, and nobody was in the bathroom, so once I was done, I rinsed out my mouth then walked out again.

"What the fuck is that?" a third year asked me looking down to my stomach, "Oh my God, are you pregnant? No fucking way! A sixth year got herself knocked up!" he began shouting to some people down the corridor. What the fuck is he going on about?

I looked down to my belly in confusion and my face covering in horror when I realised that my bump was showing. Oh no, I must've accidentally charmed it away when I was being sick!

"I don't know what you're talking about," I said anxiously as I secretly charmed it away, without him noticing my wand, "I probably just ate too much at the dinner, that's all" and then I gave him a huge death stare.

"Oh uh- I-I'm sorry", he stuttered before I gave him the finger then he ran off to his stupid little friends.

That was close, I thought, too close.

-----

Almost two months had passed since the close call with the third year and, luckily, it hasn't happened again. It was now the 12th February and I was sitting at my table in the middle of a Transfiguration class. I'd noticed that this was one of the only classes that Draco actually turned up to, despite looking dreadfully tired. Over the past few months I had seen a drastic change in his appearance and he always looked I incredibly ill and tired. But, before I could think about it any further a sharp pain shot up through my body, making me scream out in agony.

"ARGH!" I screamed, clutching my stomach in pain, causing the whole class to look up from their parchment and stare at me. Some had worry on their face, some had confusion and a few had amusement.

But before people I had anytime to properly register that, I felt the pain again, but even harder this time, making me scream out even louder. I looked over to Gray, who also shared this class with me, and shot him a knowing look.

It was happening.

The pain slightly died down, so I could now stand up. I looked over to Professor McGonagall and by the look on her face she knew what was happening as well.

"Shall I take her Professor?" Grayson asked, getting ready to pack away his things.

"I don't think that'll be appropriate considering you are failing this class", she said, which made me quite angry as she knew that Grayson was one of the few people that were aware of what was going on right now.

"But-", he began to say before he was cut off McGonagall.

"No buts Mr Daniels," she said before turning to me and continuing, "I think it's best if Mr Malfoy takes you as he is already ahead in this class." Great. Just great.

"Profe-" I started to argue, but she stopped me.

"Now, now. Run along before it's too late", she said before waving her hands in the direction of the door.

With a huff, Draco stood up off his chair and walked out the door with me. I couldn't tell what he was thinking because his face was expressionless, but I could tell that he was tired. We walked the majority of the way in an awkward silence, until I was hit with another sharp pain in my lower back.

"Fuck", I shouted out in pain, falling to the floor.

"Shit", he muttered before walking over to where I was lying and picking me up bridal style in his arms, the rest of the way to the infirmary.

"I can walk you know", I said, feeling slightly irritated.

"Well obviously not, you just fell to the ground clutching your stomach," he said, taking large strides across the floor, "what's even wrong with you?"

"Um, just cramps I think", I answered, definitely not wanting to tell him that I was currently going into labour with his child right here in the middle of the hallway.

"It seems more than just cramps, if you ask me", he said. I wasn't quite sure, but I think I saw a bit of concern flash across his eyes as he said that.

"Yeah, well no uterus, no opinion", I snapped back, just wanting this chat to be over with.

"Jeez, sorry. I won't ask again", he said, annoyed at my attitude.

After another awkward few minutes of silence we finally arrived at the infirmary. It felt like I left that Transfiguration classroom hours ago but in reality it was probably only a couple of minutes. He pushed through the doors and called over for Madam Pomfrey.

"Oh my!" she said, realising what was happening, "Thank you Mr Malfoy, you may be excused." And with that he placed me on a hospital bed and walked out, not looking back once - not that I expected him too though.

"Okay dear, are you ready to do this?" she asked, after I got into a comfortable-ish position on the bed.

"I guess", I replied, not really sure if I was.
