Jade entered her apartment, exhausted from her day at work. She reached up, pulling the hair tie out of her hair.

She decided to go to her bedroom to change out of her uniform after the long day. When she entered her room, she turned on the lamp on her nightstand.

On her walls were various pictures of Rex from news articles, the queen's archives, and even pictures she took herself when he wasn't looking.

Her fingers gently touched a picture on the wall closest to her. "You don't know this yet, but I'm your future wife."

She leaned forward, smelling the wall. She made sure to spray each and every picture with the cheap, yet good quality masculine cologne he would occasionally wear.

Jade pressed herself against the wall, letting out a chuckle. "You're so sexy! Gosh, I can only daydream about how you might feel...touching me, loving me. I just want that day to come sooner."

Jade was interrupted when she heard a knock at her front door. Agitation arose in her expression.

"Are you kidding me? I just got home."

She walked out of her bedroom in frustration, opening the door to her apartment. She stared, surprised at the figure in front of her.

"Ruby..."

Ruby, one of Jade's best friends, showed a smile, "Hey, Jade! Sorry, you look like you just came home. Should we come back later?"

"No. It's okay. I can make time for you." She moved aside, "Let's chat."

Ruby walked into Jade's apartment. A guy slightly taller than her followed her in.

Jade eyed him, as she closed the door.

"Hey, Travis."

Travis turned to her upon hearing his name, but he stared mindlessly, and didn't speak.

"Travis, say hi." Ruby spoke up.

Travis hesitated, "Hi, Jade."

Ruby sat down on Jade's couch, patting the seat next to her. "Come here, love."

Travis sat beside her, Ruby smiled, stroking his cheek. "You are so cute."

Travis blinked, keeping a blank expression.

Jade sat on the lounge chair in front of the couch, "So, did you want to talk to me about something?"

"Yes." Ruby fixed her posture, "I'm worried because the others tell me you don't have a boyfriend yet."

"Oh, uh, well..." Jade paused, "Yeah, it's true."

Ruby sighed, "Jade, I thought you said you'd have one by now. You said to give you a couple weeks. The girls and I don't want you to be alone."

"So what if I don't? I'm close anyway. I'm not the only single one you know. Pearl doesn't have a boyfriend! Onyx doesn't have a partner!"

"It's real simple process, Jade. Surely someone has piqued your interest."

"Rex Dangervest." Jade replied, "I love Rex Dangervest."

"Great! You have your guy!" Ruby cheered, "But...why haven't you mezmorized him? Haven't you been close to him?"

"I..." Jade looked at Travis, "I'm not sure if I'll like him like that. All his personality will be gone."

"Oh, it's not that bad. He'll listen to you. You just have to command him to eat, every once in a while. Sometimes he'll forget."

Jade sighed, "This is just dumb, we shouldn't have come back to Syspocalypstar. We're going to get caught."

"We're blending in just fine with our disguise magic. We need partners. For fairies it is a necessity. We need some type of love energy. Don't you want to get married and have kids?"

"Of course I want all that!" Jade responded, "I'll do it. This time I swear I will. I won't put it off anymore. Plus, I need to anyway. He's in love with another woman."

"What?!" Ruby panicked, "Jade, you need to get to him before it's too late! You need an excuse to talk to him."

Jade thought about, "He's friends with Princess Unikitty. I bet he asked his love interest to her ball, and I love parties! So, I can just ask him out instead."

"Act fast, Jade. When he gets a girlfriend, your chance will be gone. You need to get to him now."

Jade nodded slowly, "Understood."

She was nervous to act on this. She was a fairy, and all fairies had been banned from Syspocalypstar due to their habits of mischief.

They had to blend in as humans so they wouldn't be caught.

Jade and her friends were gem type fairies. They were the only ones able to escape the land they were banished to.

They were also the most powerful of all fairies, their specialty being magic of the emotions and mind.

The flower fairies were in second place, but Jade never worried about the others. Even if they were trapped light years away from home.

"Trust me, Jade. It's worth it." Ruby hugged Travis's arm, "You'll feel super powerful, and have the guy of your dreams."

Jade nodded, "Thank you for the motivation, Ruby. I should really relax for right now. I had a long day at work."

"Okay." Ruby stood up, "I believe in you. Come on, Travis."

Travis stepped up next to her, "Of course, dear."

Ruby waved happily, and Jade watched the two leave. She rubbed her tired eyes, "Okay, Rex. I'll make my way to you soon. I love you way too much to let you go."

Jade had to do research, and find out where Rex placed Rexcelsior. She couldn't give him a chance to go to the ball and meet Marie there.

She could admit to herself that she wasn't as evil as her friends, but she didn't want to be heartbroken.

Jade would take Rex for herself, and nothing could stop her.

Rex typed on his laptop, answering a few emails he received that day.

He had a few requests come in, but it wasn't anything immediate. He liked his job, but he hated the days that were extremely overwhelming.

Rex just hoped everyone in Syspocalypstar would be satisfied with his work. He was the only protector of the kingdom, and wanted to make sure he was always doing things right.

Rex closed his laptop, finally putting it aside.

"There." He stretched out, "Done."

He was exhausted, and definitely deserved a break for the weekend.

Suddenly, his cellphone rang out from beside him. He picked up his phone, looking at the caller ID.

Rex grinned, seeing that it was Marie. His newfound love, that seemed to never leave his mind.

He happily answered the call, "Hey! You're calling pretty late."

"I can't sleep." Marie replied, "I wanted to hear your voice."

"Well, you're hearing it now. Hello!" Rex chuckled, "What are ya up to?"

"Not much. I'm just catching up on some light reading. I'm in the middle of Sleeping Beauty. My favorite."

Rex chuckled, "It would be. Wouldn't it? You believe in true love's kiss."

"And happily ever after." Marie sighed, "It exists. I know it does."

Rex was happy to hear Marie talking about her fairy tale beliefs. He started to believe in them too, and he usually wasn't the type of guy to do so.

He wanted 'happily ever after' with her. That was truly a wonderful a concept.

"I also like The Little Mermaid...but the movie is much better. Sad ending in the story." Marie chuckled, "You ate dinner, right?"

"Yeah, if pizza counts. I don't really cook." Rex admitted, "Working a full time job didn't give me much time. A microwave, toaster, and takeout was all I needed to get by. So, really, I'm no professional."

"I could teach you how! If you want." Marie offered, "I have a bunch of recipes written in my journal."

"You cook?" Rex questioned, "I didn't know that. I just assumed your family did everything."

"I love helping them, but my real specialty is baking. Not to brag, but I definitely make the most delicious cookies in the universe!" Marie said.

"I'd love to try them sometime." Rex replied, "My favorite is double chocolate."

Marie beamed with joy, "Luckily, I have the perfect recipe for those. Super sweet, and delicious!"

Marie was quiet for a moment, thinking about her possible future with Rex. She hoped for a happy ending.

"I can't wait to see you again."

"Neither can I." Rex admitted, "I keep telling Emmet how happy I am to have met you."

"I'm flattered." Marie played with her necklace, "You make me happy too, Rex. You would make a wonderful prince."

Rex appreciated Marie's words, holding them close to his heart.

"You make me my happiest." He said, "And that's really saying something. I'm usually not very soft like this. It's probably a weird look on me."

"Even tough guys deserve happiness. Especially those who have been through a lot."

Marie yawned, looking at the nearby clock on her wall. It was after midnight, and she had things scheduled for the next day.

"I better go, I'm sorry for calling at this hour. See you on Sunday?"

"Of course." Rex stated, "See you then, Marie."

"Goodnight, Rex."

The call ended. Rex lowered his phone, thinking about his future date with Marie.

He thought he changed, but his heart had been yearning for this for so long. He knew it was Marie he loved, and he would let her know that next time they met in person.

————————————————————————

The next day consisted of getting ready for the ball. Though, it was still a relaxed day.

Rex had gone shopping with Emmet. For Marie, he wanted to look like a prince. At least he would try his best.

He had bought a tuxedo style suit, that was dark navy blue in color. Emmet bought the same style, but in a traditional black.

Rex didn't have much appeal for being fancy, and it had been a long time since he skipped on his vest, but the formal outfit was too perfect.

He knew he would look great in it, and Marie would love it.

Rex placed it in his closet, where it would be safe and completely wrinkle free until the next night.

Rex knew all this would be worth it. At the ball he would get to be with Marie, and there was a very high chance of them becoming a couple.

He already knew how much he was loved. It brought him a newfound sense of peace and comfort.

"Marie, I can't stop thinking about you." Rex spoke to himself, "I just...have a good feeling about this. If it's at all possible for me to feel love again, then I definitely want to experience it. I'm not one for sappy stuff, but...I think you've changed me."

Rex exited his bedroom, letting out a sigh. He didn't want to wait. It was agonizing.

Rex was suddenly alert when his raptors started making a loud fuss. It just wasn't like them, unless something was actually wrong.

He wasn't worried, because he knew he could handle whatever sent his raptors into an intense state of distress.

Rex very swiftly moved deeper into Rexcelsior, noticing that they had swarmed around the ship's entrance.

He raised an eyebrow, very confused on what had alerted them. No one he knew entered Rexcelsior without permission, certainly no one the raptors just instantly hated.

He pushed through the crowd of dinosaurs, hushing them as he passed by. "It's okay, guys. I got this."

He was finally face to face with an intruder. Jade.

She stood in front of him, shaking from fear. The raptors were a bit much for her, and she didn't expect them. Dinosaurs were supposed to be extinct after all.

"Rex, um...can you control your dinosaurs? Please." Jade begged.

Rex stared at her for a couple seconds, "Do I know you?"

"Jade! My name is Jade! You met me at the coffee shop!" She frowned, sad that Rex didn't remember her.

"Coffee shop?" Rex paused, "Oh...yeah, I think I remember now."

"I'm really sad you didn't remember my name. Our encounter was so special."

To Rex, Jade just appeared like any other woman. She was just a fangirl, and nothing more than that.

She admitted her thoughts about Rex during his last visit to the coffee shop.

She was just very average. Because of that, Rex didn't see a need for the raptors anymore. Though, the raptors rarely hated anyone. He wondered why Jade was different.

Rex turned his raptors, "She's not a threat. Just let me talk to her."

The raptors listened to their trainer, going back to their assigned placement on Rexcelsior. Rex turned back to Jade, showing a look of annoyance.

"Okay, what are you doing here? How'd you even know where I park my ship?" Rex asked.

"I just did some research on it." Jade admitted, "Rex, I really needed to ask you something. I just had to come here tonight."

Rex crossed his arms, "Really, is that all? Gosh, what is it? I'm not in the mood."

"Who's the woman you're interested in? You're taking her to Princess Unikitty's ball, right?"

Jade pushed her hair back, "You should know that I'm a much better choice, and far more beautiful! She's an ugly, pathetic loser!"

Rex was surprised by the question, but he knew why Jade asked. She wanted to be his date instead. There was no way Rex would consider her.

"If you're wondering, no, I won't replace her with you."

"Huh?! Why not?!" Jade asked.

"You're annoying, and not much to look at. Now, get off my ship."

Jade was taken aback by his response, "You don't have to be so rude! I was just asking you a question!"

"I know what you want, and my answer is, no way in heck." Rex leaned over her, "I'm taking Marie on that date. Not you."

"Marie?" Jade questioned, "Princess Marie Stardust?!"

Rex nodded, "Now, as I said, get off my ship, or I'll get my raptors again. They're biters, by the way."

Jade got the information she wanted. She knew the woman that Rex was in love with. Marie Stardust.

She wanted to make Marie suffer for trying to steal Rex from her.

"She...thinks this is a fairytale." Jade shook with anger, "She won't get her happy ending! You're my true love! Not hers!"

Rex moved back, as Jade pointed a finger at him. "I've praised you every day! I have pictures of you everywhere! Why can't you see how much I love you?! I'm better than her!"

Rex cringed, "No, that's being wicked creepy, dude. Look, I don't want anymore details on that. I don't want to know what you do while looking at me...just leave."

"I can't! I love you too much, Rex! I need you!" Jade gripped his vest, "Just give me this one chance."

Rex pushed her back, "That's it. I'm getting my raptors."

Jade looked down, and her bright green bangs covered her face. Rex's expression changed to annoyance.

"Really? Come on. Crying won't change my mind about kicking you out."

"No..." Jade growled under her breath, "But this will."

Jade looked up swiftly, and her eyes met Rex's. They glowed a vivid, bright shade of green, and sparkled like a gemstone.

Rex suddenly froze, and his eyes widened slightly. Jade's potent green light reflected in them.

His mind felt incredibly fuzzy, like it was being consumed by darkness. Jade's voice echoed in his head, and with every word he fell deeper under her spell.

"Rex, you'll be my boyfriend." Jade commanded, "You'll be mine forever. If I'm the evil witch in this story than so be it. That princess won't have you!"

Rex stared blankly, yet with a slight reminiscent of tension as if he was fighting back against Jade's power.

He eventually relaxed, and his eyes now showed a very faint tint of green.

Jade grew nervous, "Rex, you'll love me and be mine forever. Do you understand?"

Rex took a moment to process what Jade said. His expression didn't look like him at all.

His confident and outgoing personality had faded completely. There was nothing left of him.

"Yes." He spoke flatly, "I understand."

Jade's eyes widened, "It worked? Rex, are you mine forever?!"

"Yes." Rex replied, "Whatever you want."

Jade was overwhelmed with a sense of joy upon hearing Rex's response. She hugged his torso in excitement.

"I knew it would work! I knew it!" She cheered, "I'm just as powerful as all of them. Just a little late to the party. But I have you! I have you, I can't believe it!"

She reached her hand up, touching his cheek. Rex didn't show any reaction to it.

"You're all mine." Jade chuckled, "What do think about rubbing this in Princess Marie's stupid face, huh? I'm going to make her regret trying to take you away from me."

Jade had every intention of stealing Marie's happily ever after. She desired to see Marie heartbroken, more than anything else.

This was her time to be known as the one Rex chose, over a pretty, pink princess from the Systar System.
