《Into the fire》Chapter Eighty Eight

Alex's POV

Two weeks after I bumped into Wanda at Spencers shop and I am more than happy we did.

We've hung out a few times since and each time has been better than the next. Yes, we're just friends. I said slow. That's what we're doing.

But I'm enjoying her company. It's good to be around her again, to talk to her again; see her smile and hear her laugh.

Can't say I'm in love, but the feelings are definitely stronger, whatever they are.

We have another date - er- hang out?

Whatever.

I'm taking her hiking like we did on our first date. I hope it isn't too cliché. Or that she gets the wrong idea. Although I don't know what idea I'm even trying to portray.

Ugh. This is awful. I don't even know what to wear. It shouldn't be this hard. We're just friends!

Go simple. Shorts and a t-shirt. It's fairly warm out. Yes. Easy enough.

Okay. I have the bag packed for the hike with everything we could need. I'll send a quick text to Wanda saying I'll be right there..

And then I remember.

She knows I can teleport. The avengers know I can teleport. I don't know how many of them know we're.. hanging out again, but I can still teleport near the compound, right?

Yup, that's what I'm going to do. It's so much easier, though I haven't been able to do it that often. Most people don't know about it. I'm also in a relatively busy neighborhood. It's best to be safe.

Especially when I was after hydra and the avengers (unknowingly?) we're after me.

I grab ahold of the bag, doing one last check that I have everything, then teleport my ass to the compound.

Okay, I'm outside the compound, whatever.

Point is, I'm here.

I give Wanda a call to let her know I'm outside. Again in case the avengers don't know we're talking

"Hey, sunshine. I'm outside."

"What? How? You just texted me that you were leaving."

"Ah, but you forget; I have powers." I wiggle my eyebrows even though she cant see them.

She lets out a light laugh, "right. Teleporting. No wonder you and Spencer get along so well."

"Ah, it's true. We go on random teleporting adventures all of the time. Slow day at the shop? Let's go to Spain."

She gasps, "you went to Spain without me?"

"Yes. But to be fair that was a couple months ago and.." I drift off, knowing she'll connect the dots.

"And what?"

"Oh, well, you know, when we-"

"I'm messing with you, Alex. I'm also outside. I see you." She then promptly hangs up before running out to meet me. I catch her in my arms and twirl us around before planting her on the ground and planting one on her lips.

Oops. That's not exactly what most friends do..

I caught us both off guard. She's smiling, but eyes are wide. I'm stunned.

"Uh, I am so sorry. I don't know what came over me. Just with holding you and.. I guess it was just natural instinct. I'm sorry. It won't happen again." That's pretty solid, right?

She laughs, "no, you're okay. I was definitely surprised, but it was a good surprise. I have definitely missed your lips," and with that she glances down at them again with a smirk, then turns around.

Okay, keep your cool. She's flirty. You two have always been flirty, Even when you were friends. Were we just friends, though?

"So, what're we doing? There's no car, so we're teleporting?"

Ah. Guess I could have teleported my car, too. Oh, well.

"I know exactly where we're going, so, if you'd be so kind to take my hand, I'll gladly take us there." I stretch out my hand which she takes.

"Why do you have a backp-"

And I'm teleporting us.

We land already part ways up the trail so there was less chance of people seeing us and so we're closer to our spot. Also, I'm hungry.

"Woah. Wait.. is this..?"

"Where I took you for our first date? Yes."

She gives me a questioning look, but goes along with it. "Okay, lead the way!"

Soon enough we were walking along the familiar trail, chit chatting about random things as we went. Currently talking about Nat and Spencers wedding.

"Yeah, she invited me, actually. I was a well established costumer and friend by that point. Although I couldn't really participate like I wanted to. You were closer with Nat, I had no right to show up and ruin anything. I was there for the ceremony, just not with the rest of the group. I stayed far enough back."

"Ah, so you were creeping?"

"Kind of. But Spencer knew about it. She was just sorry I couldn't jump on the dance floor like she knew I wanted to."

"You should have!"

I give her the 'really' look. Because, well, really?

"Okay, I know. I'm.. I'm sorry you couldn't have fun at your friends wedding. You shouldn't have had to hide."

"Hey, it was my choice. I got to see the ceremony. And I was there for Shrek. I just went unnoticed."

"So.. you saw me?"

I nod my head, "you were breath taking in your bridesmaid dress. You're always incredibly beautiful, but with the lights in the trees and the way you danced.. you were angelic."

I hear the slight hitch in her breathing. I probably went too far. Fuck, why can't I keep my mouth shut and keep it to myself?

"Thank you," she finally breathes out.

"For..?"

"You know. I wish I saw what you were wearing. I'm sure you were gorgeous."

I let out a light laugh, "not quite. I just wore a black suit."

"Don't do that." She stops me in my tracks, turning me to look at her, "you are beautiful." She reaches up to my face, effectively increasing my heart rate, "in everything you do, you are magnificent."

Why is she doing this to me? I can hardly stand.

"Um.. thanks." I want to deny, but I know I'll just get the head tilt. It's scary and hot all at the same time and my heart definitely can't handle that right now.

I clear my throat, "we're almost there."

She nods, letting me lead once again. After a few short minutes, we make the clearing. She helps me pull out the blanket and food that I insisted on carrying.

Thankfully we settled back into our normal rhythm of not being so awkward, though that's been my fault.

It's good to be like this with her.

Yes, the kiss did something to me, stirred up even more things. And if we were to kiss again.. I may not be able to stop myself from wanting more with her.

I already want it, but I'm trying to keep myself on a leash. I have jumped into things far too quickly in the past and I don't want to make the same mistakes.

I'm not saying this would be a mistake, but she's hurt me too many times in the past for me to just do this blindly. I need to be more careful with my heart, it's the only one I've got and it's taken too many beatings.

So we're still going with slow.

And maybe someday soon, I'll kiss her again and it'll be as my girlfriend.

But for now, I'm enjoying this food Spencer made for us that I tried to help make, while taking in the sights around me.

Mostly the breathtaking beauty next to me.

Wandas POV

I have had to contain my excitement this entire day. I know I can be excited or thrilled or sad or whatever I am around Alex, but this is different.

So as soon as she brought me back, kissing me on my cheek as I went to leave, which I know took even her by surprise, again, I went running into the compound looking for Nat.

I quickly found her in the kitchen making a smoothie.

"Nat!"

"Wanda!" She matches my enthusiasm.

"So glad you're here, we have so much to discuss."

"Oh? I take it the date? Hang out? Whatever it was, went well?"

"Very. I think. I'm not sure. That's why I need your help."

"Okay, lay it on me."

She starts drinking her smoothie as I intently go over the day I just had with Alex, every glimmering detail I could remember. Which is all of them.

Once I'm finished, she takes a moment, furrowing her brows in thought.

"So.. she kissed you? Took you to the spot you had your first date? And fed you?"

Yeah, you missed that part. It was adorable.

I nod my head eagerly, "you think that means she wants something more?"

"I don't know.."

"Because, that kiss.." I groan and throw my head back, reminiscing. "It was out of this world. I have missed her lips so much. Now all I want to do is kiss her. My lips are begging for hers to be on them again."

"So you've said," she chuckles, "but, Wanda?"

"Yeah?"

"Just, be careful. Yeah?"

"Ugh. You keep saying that." I walk away and into the living room where I flop onto the couch. I know she followed me. "You're killing my buzz."

"Sorry. I don't want you to get hurt. She might be confused. I'm not saying she's playing with your feelings, but she's clearly way more reserved than she was. Just because she kissed you, doesn't mean.."

"I know," I groan. "Just let me have this, please?"

She sighs, "fine. Now scoot over. I want to watch a movie."

"You sound like Spencer."

"Shut up."
