《Into the fire》Chapter Seventy Eight

Alex's POV

It's been a few weeks since the whole incident. I've recovered quite well, actually. Dr. Cho's machine is incredible. I have practically zero scars, and my body was covered in burns. I know, I felt them.

I'm still surprised Tony ended up bringing me back to the compound, but I am very grateful. For all of them, honestly.

I've been very surprised by their support and care. Not once has any of them asked me what the hell I was doing or what I was thinking. I can tell some of them want to ask, but they don't. They just check up on me to make sure I'm good, like any friend would.

Which really makes me wonder what Wanda threatened them with.

Seriously.

Yes, I've been trapped to the avengers tower this whole time. It hasn't been that bad, actually. Food is decent, especially when Wanda cooks. Or Spencer. Wanda was not kidding, that woman can cooook.

We've actually become pretty close, Spencer, Nat, and I. After I'm fully recovered, we've promised to go out on a double date. Which I look forward to.

Both the being healed and out of this damn hospital bed and also the double date.

I've been fine for the last two weeks, really only needing a few days to recover, a week to feel 100%. But Wanda insisted that I take extra time to be sure.

Things between her and I are.. great. It was a little weird at first. Kind of awkward. Like we were starting from where we left off and starting all over again at the same time.

We had this little dance around what happened for a few days before I told her everything. And I do mean everything.

Wanda, being the amazing ray of sunshine that she is in my life, took it all with open arms, not turning away or being angry with me for even a moment. She understood. She still loves me.

So we're borderline fantastic now. I've been wanting to ask her to move in with me again, but I'm stuck in this room.

And I'm losing my damn mind in this room. It's so boring. All I get to do is lay around. So I am going to convince Bruce to clear me today so I can go plan a little surprise for Wanda.

A date. I'm talking about a date.

We haven't been on one in awhile.

However, I haven't seen Bruce yet today. Or anyone, for that matter.

I usually have a few visitors a day at least.

No.. not my team. I did make contact with my chief and told her what happened, that I was in an accident. Also that I needed a couple more weeks.

I've been itching to get back into work just as much as I've wanted out of this room. Thankfully I had enough furlough saved up and a chief that absolutely loves me, so she said when I was healed and medically cleared that I was welcomed back to my old firehouse.

So Bruce needs to get his ass in here. I'm about to have Friday call him in if he doesn't show-

"Brucey!"

"Hi, Alex."

"It is so good to see a friendly face!"

"What do you want?"

"Wow. Here I was just happy to see my friend."

"It's good to see you, too. Now, what do you want?"

"For you to clear me!" I see he's about to come up with some excuse as to why I can't, so I continue, "pleeeease! Come on, you and I both know I was perfectly healed within the first week. This is just pure torture now. Which, if boredom is how you are trying to get me to talk, it's going to work."

I actually get him to laugh, "it's actually not. But I understand the boredom. It's against Wandas wishes, but I can give you a check up."

"Yes! I love you! You are now my favorite avenger."

"Yeah, that won't last long. Especially when Wanda has you back to herself."

"Yeah, yeah. Just take the win for now, green giant."

He rolls his eyes but starts the check up. Which I pass. With flying colors. Obviously.

So I'm free to set up a date with Wanda.

—————

Okay, I have everything all set up for when Wanda gets back. She said she was running errands with Nat today. Who the hell knows what that means or how long they'll be, but I'm ready for when she is home.

I had some time to kill as I couldn't start some of the food until she was actually here, so I decided to explore more of the compound now that I have the freedom to do so.

It's easy to get lost, I'll tell you that much.

I found the training facilities and the storage shit along with the indoor pool (which Wanda and I will be using now that I know it exists). Now I'm just walking aimlessly down this hallway in hopes of finding anything that might resemble a more exciting room.

That's when I hear the yelling.

Hearing what I believe to be my amazing girlfriends voice, I run towards it.

"That's not the point, Bruce! You were supposed to keep her here! You know-"

"Hey! Hey, sunshine. I'm here. What's going on?" I take the opportunity and wrap her in a hug.

She hits my shoulder.

"Hey!"

"Why are you out of bed?"

"Uh, because I was-"

"You aren't suppose to be out of bed. You're healing."

"Actually, I'm fully healed. Have been for a while. Was cleared officially this morning," I state with a smile.

She turns her head tilt towards Bruce who backs up, "hey! She isn't stupid, she knows she's fine! I can't keep her here!"

"Woah, sunshine. Look at me," she reluctantly does. "I'm fine, promise. Totally healed. Hardly a scar left on me. Thanks to you. And Helen. And Bruce. Who all know what they're doing."

She gives in, "I know. I just. You were so close to not coming back to me-"

"But I did. I'm alive and very much healthy. Okay? Soooo can we let Bruce alone to do his work and not hurt him?"

"Fine," she shoots him one last warning glare before she walks out.

I mouth a 'sorry' to him as I follow her.

"Now, since that's over, can I take you on a little date?"

Her head snaps to me, "date?"

"Yes. That's what I've been up to most of the day. I have it all planned out." I offer her my arm which she takes.

"Gladly."

—————

I made some of the snacks I planned and then led Wanda to the roof.

"Um, Alex. What are we doing?"

"Just, trust me, okay?"

"I do."

"Good. Then close your eyes," I tell her seriously. She complies. "Such a good girl," I growl.

I saw that blush. It's so fun to tease her.

I push open the door, letting Wanda through first.

"Okay, open them."

The smile that made me fall head over heals spreads across her face. There's an air mattress that's drowned by blankets and pillows along with a little blanket fort over it.

"Do you like it?" Just to be sure.

"Yes! You set all of this up?!"

"I did. It was actually rather difficult to find all of these blankets in this place."

She hugs me, "thank you. I think we need this."

"Agreed. So, shall we?"

She answers by flying on top of the pile of blankets and pillows I created. It wasn't quite dark enough outside for the whole surprise, so we started eating the food and just chatting for awhile.

It was nice to be out of the medical room and enjoying the outside for once, especially with Wanda.

I'm so glad we're in a good spot again. That month without her was torture. Though I would have denied it at the time because, ya know, had to be strong and all. I thought she hated me. Thought I lost the love of my life.

But thankfully, I have her wrapped in my arms once again and I won't let it go to waste. I'm not letting her go, and I hope she doesn't let me go.

But now that I'm free.. "move in with me," I whisper.

She looks up at me, eyebrows furrowed.

I gain my voice, "move in with me?"

"Really?"

"Yeah. I mean, we're good again. And we were about to move in before.. everything. So I'm sure my house is still exactly how I left it ready for you. So? What do you say?"

She launches at me, crashing our lips together in a bruising kiss.

"So is that a yes?" I ask once we pull away.

She nods her head, "yes, yes, yes." And we're kissing again. Not that I'm complaining.

So we planned out when she'll move, not that we had much else to discuss about it since we were going to move in together ages ago.

Once the sun was down, I powered on the projector.

"Movies outside?!"

"Yes, hope you don't mind sleeping out under the stars?"

"I love the idea," she gives me a peck before cuddling into my side as I get ready for the movie, covering us in a few blankets. Warm weather or not, nights still get pretty cold in New York.

"What are we watching?"

"Something called Bring It On?"

"She chuckles, "was that a question?"

"No. Spencer said I should watch it. But we could literally watch whatever you want."

"You've never seen Bring It On?"

"No, I haven't. But I could always watch it some other time. I'm sure Spencer wouldn't mind watching them with me.

"No, no. This is good. I love these movies."

"Movies?"

"Yeah there's a whole bunch of them."

"Movie marathon?"

"Movie marathon."
