《Into the fire》Chapter Seventy Three

Wandas POV
Panic. Pure panic. Breathing too heavily, not enough. This situation just keeps getting worse by the second, and I can't do a single thing about it. I have no control. I have no information. I have nothing.
I have to trust Tony.
"Hey, Wanda, are you okay?"
"Fucking seriously, Bruce?" Nat spits at him.
"What? I was asking because.."
"Yes, but you're an idiot," then she turns, sitting in front of me, grabbing my hands. "Hey, Wands. I need you to breathe for me, okay? Follow mine. Good. Deep in, hold it, out. Okay, again.."
She was able to help me get control of breathing again. But that just leaves focus too everything else. What the hell am I-
"Hey, hey. Stay here with me, okay? Alex is going to be okay. She is one of the strongest and bravest people I know. She had a pulse, Tony will make sure they keep it," she tries to assure me, but mentioning his name sends another round of panic through me.
I shake my head trying to force words out.
"No.. no, Tony, he-"
"He took her to the medbay at the tower. We're going to be right behind them."
"No.. he didn't trust her. Didnt.. didn't want to help.. or let her talk. He isn't taking her to medbay!"
"What are you talking about? Where else would he take her?" Clint asks as he sits next to me.
Eyes wild, "the raft. It's where he wanted her to begin with. This way, we have no choice."
"You really think Tony would do that?" Clint asks unsure.
Nat let's out an angry breath, standing up and walking over to the front dash. "Tony, Tony we are right behind you. You're heading to medbay. Right?"
We wait. We get nothing.
"Tony, tell us if you've already landed. Is she at the hospital?" Nat tries again.
Literal radio silence.
"Fucking knew it.." I mutter, hands going to my knees as I try to steady myself.
"Hey, this doesn't mean Tony took her there, okay? He could just be getting Dr. Cho caught up," Steve tries, oh he tries.
I shake my head. I don't believe it.
"Please. You seriously believe that, Cap?" Clint says, now on board with Tony betraying us.
"I want to," it's all he can say.

"Fuck."
"Tony, I swear on everything thats breathing, if you took her to the raft, I will make you feel what it's like to have every bone in your body broken one at a time," woah. That's a threat I didn't know I was capable of making. Not one I'm capable of following through on, but hopefully he doesn't feel like messing with me.
"Uh, hey guys. Um.. Alex is seeing a doctor right now. I don't know exactly what they're doing. They won't tell me. They just took her and.."
"Tony! If you're on the raft right now, you're dead." Yikes.
"What? Why would I be-"
"Don't try to lie to me. That'll make your fate even worse."
I can hear this fucker gulp. Good. He should be scared.
"Listen, Wanda, I had to make a decision-"
"No! No. This was not your decision to make! You don't get to do this, you aren't the voice for the whole team. And you sure as shit aren't in charge of what happens to my girlfriend."
"I thought you two broke-"
"Don't finish that sentence if you value your life even a little."
He sighs. This motherfucker sighs. "Wanda.. I had to. Dr. Cho is here, okay? She's getting the best care possible, I'm making sure of that. But you saw what she was doing to that building! How easily she melted cement! That's.."
"That's what, Tony? Inhuman? Monstrous? What? What is she that isn't one of us, too?"
"It's not that simple!"
"I know it isn't that simple! So why did you make such a big life altering decision seem so simple? One that wasn't yours to make!"
"I did it for the safety of the team! For all of us! We don't know what she's fully capable of or what she was trying to do! No idea who she is working for-"
"And now we never will! You made damn sure of that, didn't you? Made damn sure that it doesn't matter what she was doing or for who. How are you any better than hydra? How are you any better than what you were accusing her of?!"
"Wanda.." Clint tries to stop me. But he can't.
"No! He deserves this. You are just like she said; so focused on your own damn ego that you think you get to control everything. Look where that has gotten us before, Tony!"

Silence. Is he even still there?
"What do you want me to do, Wanda?" He asks softly.
"I want you to fix this! Fix your own stupidity! And you better hope like anything that Alex lives."
I dont wait to hear what he says. I cut off the line, slamming my fists down in frustration.
There's a hand on my shoulder, making me whip around to see who it was.
"Take us to the raft."
"Wanda, I don't know if-"
"I don't care. Take me to her."
Nat nods once as she changes the destination and resets the autopilot.
I'm fuming. I'm absolutely pissed. I'm ready to tear Tony right out of his stupid metal armor and throw him around.
But I'm also scared. Immensely scared that I'm about to lose the person I love, the person I wanted to spend the rest of my life with. That I won't get to tell her, I won't be able to fix it.
Terrifying isn't enough. She is on the brink of death and I'm not there. Instead Tony has her in a hell hole. So even if she does make it through this, there's no guarantee she'll give us a second glance.
The love of my life is in the last place I would ever want her, and she's already fighting for her life.
—————
Were landing on the raft. We didn't get clearance but it was surfaced for Tony. He wasn't dumb enough to leave.
But I'm about to make him a rag doll.
"Wanda, wait!"
I don't answer. I know where I need to go. It's where I spent days myself. Where I never thought I would have to go back to.
"Going in there and tearing Tony to pieces isn't going to save her."
"Might make me feel better," I shrug her off.
"Wanda, don't do something you'll regret."
"What the hell else am I suppose to do?! I can't do anything! I couldn't stop her, I couldn't save her, I didn't.. I didn't trust her. I didn't believe her."
Against every fiber in my being, every atom and every blood cell, I break down. Right in the middle of the raft. Right into Nats arms.
She holds me tight, unspeaking. There's nothing she can say to make this better. Not until I know Alex is alive and free.
She gives me a few minutes while the tears never cease.
"Let's go talk to Tony, okay?"
I nod. The fight all left me as soon as the first bubble of sobs did.
We walk along, many people trying to stop us. Nat just gave them her death glare, daring them to mess with her.
They didn't.
We made it to Tony.
He's already backing up once he spots us.
"Wanda.. hey. Let's talk.."
"You should have talked to us in the first place, Tony," I hear Steve say from behind me.
I take a glance back, seeing just about everyone is standing behind us. Looks like they're on my side this time.
"Did you do it?"
"Do what?"
"Don't play stupid, Tony. Did you get her out of here?"
"Well.. she is in surgery right now, I think. Dr. Cho was looking her over, said it will be awhile. They were going to give me updates but I haven't seen-"
"Is. She. Free?" It's taking everything in me not to unleash every bit of energy I have on this bitch right now.
"Um, well.."
Cue head tilt.
"So, uh. I don't know if they'll let her go.. see, once they knew who I caught.."
"They don't know her, Tony. And neither do you, apparently. We all fucked up in that department. We don't even know why she was doing what she was doing. So you're going to fix. It. Now."
I feel the red wisps forming around my hands.
"Okay. Okay. I'll talk to them again, okay? Just-"
"Tony Stark. You brought.. Alex Keahi in?"
"Uh, yes. Yes. How is she? Where is she?" Oh now he seems concerned.
"Still in surgery, I'm afraid. Dr. Cho just wanted me to come out and let you know it's going to be awhile. She really wishes you had brought her-"
"I know. So do I. Now, how is she?"
He lets out a sigh, "she's fighting. But we've never seen anything like this. We aren't equipped.."
"Fine. Then let me take her."
"No. That was not the deal. You brought her here. She's under our authority."
"Well, I take it back."
"That's not how this works."
"Make it work. She needs better care. I was so careless to even bring her here. She needs a proper hospital."
"You should have thought of that before you brought her here."

Delve
Summary – Level 1: Delve is an isekai litrpg that follows an average guy who just happened to wake up in a forest one day. He wasn’t summoned to defeat the demon lord or to save the world or anything like that, at least as far as he can tell. The only creature there to greet him was a regular old squirrel. Soon enough, he meets other people, only to discover that he can’t speak the language, and that not everybody immediately trusts random pajama-wearing strangers they met in the middle of the wilderness. Things generally go downhill from there, at least until the blue boxes start appearing. Delve is a story about finding your way in a new, strange, and dangerous world. It’s about avoiding death, figuring out what the heck is going on, and trying to make some friends along the way. It’s not about getting home, so much as finding a new one. Did I mention that there will be math? Summary – Level 2: Okay, but what are you in for, really? Well, this story is supposed to be realistic, or at least, as realistic as a fantasy litrpg can be. The main character doesn’t instantly become an all-powerful god and murder-hobo his way across the universe. Delve is, at its heart, a progression fantasy, but that progression is meant to feel earned. The numbers in this story actually mean something. Everything is calculated, and if you find a rounding error, I expect you to tell me about it. That said, if math isn’t your cup of tea, there is plenty more that the story has to offer. Characters are meant to feel real, and progression isn’t only about personal power; it’s also about allies, connections, and above all, knowledge. Figuring out how the system works is a significant theme. ... What, you want more details? Okay, fine, but this is going to get a bit spoiler-y. Are you sure? Yes! Really sure? I mean, this summary is practically half as long as the first chap– Now! Okay, okay! The main character becomes a magic user, but he takes a route that is not very popular in adventurer culture, namely that of a support. There is a full magic system with various spells, skills, and abilities, but our MC decides that aura magic is the way to go, and that the only stat worth investing in is mana regeneration. Most people at the Adventurer’s Guild think that this makes him a bit of a dumbass, but he’s playing the long game. We’ll see how that works out for him, won’t we? Because of his build, the MC levels up fast, at least compared to normal people. There are no cheats, though, and he is limited in other ways. There are some clear and pretty obvious downsides to his build. That’s what makes it fun, no? Morals? Our MC has them. Again, we’ll see how that works out for him. Realism, remember? Would you be okay with killing someone and looting their body? I sure hope not. POV? The focus is on the main character, but there will be occasional varying perspectives from people around him, or involved in the events related to the main plot. It isn’t going to jump all over the place. Tech is standard medieval stasis. No smartphones, but the MC does have a technical background. Computers and their programming might be involved. There might even be a bit of uplifting down the road, who knows? Anyway, it isn’t the focus. He isn’t going to invent the gun in chapter 1 and change the face of warfare. Romance is not a major focus. Friendships are more the name of the game, though there will be some characters in romantic relationships. There is exploration, though not as much of the geographical nature as you might expect. It is more about exploration of the system and the culture. The pace is slow and detailed, sometimes verging on slice-of-life. The action is meant to be realistic and grounded in the numbers, and it is intended to have meaning beyond simply punching things until they stop moving. The general tone of the story is grey, and some parts can get quite dark. People die. Sometimes, people with names, but not anywhere near GoT level. There is plenty of light, too, though, to balance the darkness. The world is dangerous, but overcoming that danger is why we’re all here, isn’t it? Anyway, if you’ve made it this far through the summary, you clearly like words. I hope you enjoy the story! Cover by Miha Brumec Summary Updated: 2020-06-14
