《Into the fire》Chapter Sixty Seven

Wandas POV

"Hawaii?!" Nat exclaims. "We're going to a hydra base in Hawaii?!"

Tony looks up from the hand he had covering his face, "yes. There's a base in Hawaii. It's relatively new, but there hasn't been much happening there in a long time. They hardly use it."

"You're telling me I could have been stationed in Hawaii as a lookout this whole time?!" Apparently Nat loves Hawaii.

"I suppose you could have been, though that would be more of a thing to yell at Fury about. Of course then you wouldn't have been with us. Probably wouldn't have met Spencer.."

"Woah, woah, woah. And why wouldn't I have met her?" She asks defensively.

"Think about it, Nat. How often did you visit your family? You only went there because you were going to go on vacation and you felt guilty. But if you lived in Hawaii you would always be on a vacation," Bucky points out.

She rolls her eyes, "I would have visited them.."

"Okay, enough. Nat, of course you still would have met Spencer. It probably would have been under different circumstances and at different times, but you're soulmates, so it would have happened," I comfort her. "Can we focus back on this mission now, please?" Because this is kind of serious and I'm freaking out a lot right now.

"Yes. Sorry. So, as I was trying to say, we're going to Hawaii. It's a relatively new hydra base that doesn't seem to have a lot going on in it. We assume it was just taken so they had a position on the islands. Also, it's hydra so who the hell knows," Tony explains.

"Okay, but why are we going to Hawaii?" Steve asks. Which is a great point.

"Really? You're questioning why we're going to Hawaii?" Nat is a little too stuck on this. I think I know where her and Spencer need to go for a vacation.

"Well, dum dum, Alex is Hawaiian. So why wouldn't she come here?"

"Okay that's the best you got? She's from Hawaii so it's the best place? Wouldn't she not want to blow up the place she's from?"

"One, it's not like she's blowing up Hawaii, she's just blowing up the hydra base. Also, being controlled by hydra, I don't think she'd have a choice.

"Two, no, that's not the only reason. There are unfortunately more hydra bases than we'd like to admit or even know about. So picking one in a place that she has a connection to doesn't seem too out of the box. Also, we have no idea where she could hit next. They're all random. So far we can't detect any pattern at all. So we are honestly just sitting ducks at this point."

"Okay.. so if we don't know, then why are we all at this one location?" Bucky asks.

"Well, iRobot, if you've noticed, not all of us are here," Tony points out.

"Yeah but.."

"I sent the others to a few other locations that might be a target," Tony says smugly.

"Great. So she could hit any of the other locations first, and I won't even be there to help. She could be being controlled! And more than half the team doesn't even believe she could be innocent! In fact.."

"In fact most of the ones that believe she's innocent are sitting on this quinjet.." Nat finishes for me.

I throw my hand in Nats direction, "exactly. Care to explain, Tony?"

He looks a little guilty, "I um.. I didn't," he clears his throat, "I don't want your judgement to be clouded."

"Wait. Are you fucking kidding me? You brought us to the location you don't think she'll come to, right?" I let the red take over my eyes.

"Uh.. I mean, maybe?"

"Come on, Tony. That's a little low, even for you. There was never any proof that she was with hydra at all.."

"Except for the fact that she set the fire that almost took Nat and Peter. Or are we just going to neglect that little nugget of information?" Tony says fiercely.

"No, Tony. We didn't forget. But in case you forgot, I already forgave her. Until we know all of the facts, we can't judge her. If we did that, then none of us would be here right now," Nat spits back, standing up, ready to get in Tony's face.

"Not to mention the fact that she'd probably be more cooperative if someone was there that she knows and trusts. Someone that might not want to throw her in jail immediately?" Bucky chimes in, crossing his arms.

"Seriously, Tony, did you even think this through?" Steve gets in on it now. We're all just about ready to fight him.

"Okay, okay. You have made your points. I guess I let my own judgment get in the way of what might be best. For Alex and the team. I'm.. I'm sorry," he mumbles.

"Sorry? You're sorry? What the fuck happens if she does show up to someone elses base? What if it's too late? Did you even plan for-"

"Okay. Listen, fighting about it now isn't going to do us any good. I am obviously pissed at Tony right now for making such a dumbass mistake, but we're here." I cut Steve off, showing that we're already at the base in Hawaii.

"I want to be the one to find Alex first, but I don't get the option. Right now we can only work with what we have and where we are. That is us five and a hydra base in Hawaii. So working against each other isn't going to help."

"Wanda is right, of course. Let's just focus on what we can control right now. Which is checking out this base and being ready if she does show up," Nat is quick to jump on my side.

"Okay, you heard the boss. Everyone be on the look out. We don't know if this is a set up or not. It's hydra, keep that in mind," Steve says, already ready to walk off the ramp.

"Wow. This place is pretty desolate. Seems totally destroyed then abandoned. If it weren't so fucking hot, I don't think I'd believe it was Hawaii," Bucky says as he glanced around.

I have to agree. This place, though it seems perfect for hydra, looks like a former shell of what it was.

"Yeah, whatever they took from this place.. no one ever tried to get it to come back," Steve mumbles.

We quickly follow Steve and make our way stealthily over to the so called abandoned hydra base. Honestly it's so fucking hot here I almost can't stand it. My clothes are sticking to me in places that are just.. uncomfortable. I guess Alex would like it here, she tends to like the heat.

We get to the base and secure the outside of it. Not noticing anything out of place. Feeling safe about that, we send Steve and Bucky to head inside and make sure it's clear before we all head in.

"It's empty, all right. Looks like it hasn't been used since it was first built," Steve talks to us through our comms.

"Wasn't built. I read up on this a little bit before we left and on the way. Hydra stormed this place years ago. Took over the little town. Which included this building, which I guess was some sort of manufacturing place before," Tony says as he looks around.

"Wow. Did I just hear Tony say he did his homework?" Bucky teases.

"Please, metal head. I always do my homework," Tony answers.

"So what do we do now?" I wonder out loud.

"Well, I suppose we make ourselves comfortable here and wait it out," Tony shrugs. Which looks weird in his suit.

"Wait it out? How long are we going to be here?" Steve asks. Duh, Steve.

"I don't know. I thought I made that obvious?" Tony says tauntingly. "We don't know where she is going next. Just because she isn't here doesn't mean she won't be. We wait to see if we hear from the others and we wait to see if she shows up here."

"Great. I'm in Hawaii, but I'm stuck in a musty old manufacturing plant," Nat mumbles just loud enough for us to hear.

I can't help but laugh a little.

We all walk around for a little bit, checking out the building in a more delicate way now that we have time and nothing else to do.

Eventually we all find a place to sit as we wait this out. I'm starting to dread this. Now that I have time to sit and think, my mind once again takes me to all the horrible things that could be happening, everything that this could mean.

What if she doesn't make it here? What if something happens along the way and she..

"Wanda, hey it's going to be okay. We'll find her or she'll find us, and we'll figure this all out. Okay?" I nod at Nats words, not trusting my own voice.

She wraps her arm around my shoulders and I lean into her, accepting the comfort she offered.

"I don't know what I want more; for her to show up here, or for one of the other teams to get to her first." I whisper out to Nat. "I don't know if I can take it if she's working for hydra willingly.. I.." my voice cracks, threatening to release the whole dam.

"Oh, Wanda. Hey, you know her, better than anyone. Yelena never found her guilty and neither did you. I saw you two together. There was no denying the love she had for you."

"And I love her. But Nat.." I turn to look at her, "what if I'm just in love with a monster? Or worse.. in love with someone that doesn't exist?"

She goes to say something.. I'm not sure what. And I don't know if I'll ever know what she was about to say to try and console me.

Because it was at that moment that Clint's voice broke out over the comms.

"Guys.. they've been here.. we didn't see anything. We didn't even.. have time. We're all out but.. I don't know.. where they'll be going next. There.. there was nothing here.. we looked.. we, we didn't find anything. Now.. now it's all gone.." his voice is hoarse, and he's coughing way too much. It's clear he needs help.

But I could still hear the shock, the fear, the concern, the pain. And it just begs the question..

What if there is no stopping this?
