《Into the fire》Chapter Sixty Two

Alex's POV
I'm stunned.
She's here. She's standing right there by the front door, arm still extended as if she was about to waltz inside to see an old friend.
She's frozen.
She isn't even attempting to move.
And I'm struggling.
I have to save her.
I can't let this take her.
We haven't gone through all of this to lose now.
And maybe it'll expose me. But that's what I wanted in the first place, right? To come clean and tell her everything.
This is not how I planned it, but it'll have to do.
And then she moves. Her head quickly pivoting. And her eyes latch on to mine immediately, almost like she sensed it.
And though I'm farther away than I'd like to be, I see it; the confusion and hurt and anger flashing across her eyes as she puts the pieces together.
We'll have to figure that out later.
Right now I need to get her the hell away from this burning building.
I teleport myself next to her, swooping her in my arms, not giving her the chance to protest, before teleporting us a safe distance away from the house.
I don't completely leave yet, wanting to make sure she isn't actually physically hurt before I decide to take her to the hospital or not.
I set her on the ground. Her expression is blank. She's staring at the house like she's waiting for it to speak.
"Wanda? Sunshine? Are you okay? Are you hurt? Any burns?" I know I'm throwing a lot of questions at her, but I'm hoping I can pull her out of this funk. I need to know she's okay, that I didn't hurt her. Not again.
I gingerly reach out to push back her hair so I can check better for any marks.
But before I make contact with her skin, a hand with a vice grip stops me from getting any closer.
Her head turns slowly towards me and for a moment I see the red take over, wishing to be let out. I wait, holding my breath for whatever she tells it to do, knowing I deserve it.
Instead the red quickly vanished as pure panic takes over.
"Alex? My.. they.."
"What? Are you okay?" I'm trying to make sense of her words, but they don't say anything that's helping.

Her gaze looks desperately back to the house, her hand pointing to it, "they're.. in there. In the house. I don't.. they're gone. You need.. help them!"
I'm still not understanding, slightly fearing she's lost in some hallucination form like the last time she was caught in a burning building.
But then it clicks. As to why she would even be here. Why she's worried about the house.
It's not the house.
"Wanda. Look at me." She does. "You didn't come alone on this mission, did you?"
She shakes her head, her lower lip trembling as she fights off the tears.
"Shit," I breathe out looking back to the house. "And you don't know where they are?" Again she shakes her head. "Okay. Okay. How many? Who came with you?"
I don't get the names. Only a number. "Seven."
Damn it. "Okay. Are you okay if I leave you here for a moment? Can you call for help?"
She gives me a small nod and it's not enough, but it has to be.
I stand up and face the house once more. I'm suppose to let this burn to the ground without a trace. But I suppose that went out the window the instant I saw Wanda.
Time to save some avengers.
I teleport myself to the house, taking a quick look around the outside in hopes that they didn't make it in.
I'm allowed a little moment to breathe as I find Clint and Sam outside.
I make quick work of getting them over to Wanda as safely as I can.
I am going to have a lot of explaining to do. No time to think about that, though.
There's five more avengers I have to find.
The fire was at its highest temperature, the whole structure burning at once as it quickly became unstable. I was going to have to work fast.
I did what I could to calm the flames, but with the teleporting as well, it wasn't as effective.
It'll have to do. I found Nat in the living room, she must have found her way in through the window along with Bucky. And damn is that man heavy.
They have some burns and they are unconscious, but they're alive.
I can only hope the same for the next three. Steve was on the stairs. Another big guy. My energy was draining fast, but I only had two more. Two more people and then I could let the flames take over the house completely.

Just not yet.
And my heart just about jumps out of my throat when I see Peter passed out in a bedroom upstairs. He must have used his webs to get him through a window on this floor. Damn it. Why do they have kids on their team?
From what I can see his burns aren't too severe. But they're all going to need some kind of medical help and definitely some oxygen; they've taken in too much smoke by now.
The last is Tony. I can see where he blasted his way in from the side of the room. Luckily his suit is protecting him. But the heat must have started to wear it down as he seemed to be passed out as well.
I can finally breath as I place him down next to the rest. I release my hold on the fire and let it take out it's rage on the building before us.
I'm trying to take a moment to get some strength back, guessing I'll have to teleport everyone back to the hospital or at least their jet that I assume is somewhere close by.
Now that I'm laying down and my adrenaline isn't keeping me upright, I feel the burns start to surface on my own skin. I don't even want to look.
I know what they feel like. I know the intensity. I know what it looks like. All too well.
But it's been a seriously long time since I've been effected by them, which just shows how drained I am right now.
I turn my attention over to the group beside me so I can start to work whatever first aid magic I can. I see Wanda still frozen looking at the collapse of the building. I can tell she hasn't moved. Help isn't going to be on its way. I have to snap her out of it.
I shake her shoulder and call out her name. She looks at me, but her eyes are focused on something far off.
"Wanda. I need your help. I need you to snap out of this for a few minutes so we can save everyone. Okay?"
It takes a moment, but I see it all click as she shakes her head. She's pissed. But she knows we need to deal with everyone else first.
Clint and Sam seem fine once I've checked them over, mostly just in shock. But they're with it enough to help check everyone else and do as I instruct.
Wanda helps with her wiggly woos as much as she can, our eyes meet, sharing a knowing look.
We both know they need more help than we can give them right now.
We need to go back.
"How long will it take on the jet?" I ask but in a hurry.
"I.. I don't know.."
"Few hours at best," Clint answers for her.
"Shit.." I know they've inhaled way too much smoke. And I don't want to risk them succumbing to anything worse.
I have to teleport them. I've rested enough, I think. There's a lot of them, but I can do it. I have to.
"Where should I take them?"
Clint gives me a weird look, "uh.. the avengers compound. I can alert Banner and a few of our doctors to take care of them. But like I said that's three.."
I set my jaw, "okay. You alert who you need to, I'll get everyone there. Okay?"
He doesn't get what I'm talking about, I know, but he complies anyway.
As he starts talking into their comms, I grab ahold of Peter and Nat, the two that seemed to suffer the worse from all of this.
Thankfully Bruce was waiting in the lab once we got there and quickly got to work. I gave him short word that I'll be bringing more and teleported back to the group.
Not wanting to waste anymore time, I made sure I was in contact with Steve, Bucky and Tony before teleporting to the compound once again.
I saw them all quick at work trying to make their assessments on who needed what the most.
Satisfied with what I saw, I went back for the last three.
Clint and Sam came easily enough. I decided to give Wanda another moment to herself before going back for her.
But when I tried to reach out for her hand, she pulled away. More like jumped as far away as she could from me.
"Don't fucking touch me."
