《Into the fire》Chapter Fifty Four

Alexs POV

Oh, hi. I uh.. I guess I don't really know what to say.. I wasn't really expecting you to be here. This is kind of something I usually do on my own and definitely not something I tell people about.

But here you are.

And it throws a wrench into just about all of my plans. So thanks for that.

Okay, listen. I'm about to be very vague with you and you're just going to have to deal with it. I won't tell you why and I'm not about to explain myself.

So, you're just going to have to listen to me, okay?

Can you just trust me right now?

Great.

Then we need to run. Now. Don't ask questions, you just have to believe me when I say we need to go.

I'll lead, try to keep up.

Fuck. I thought this was the way back.

Yes, I heard that explosion, too. Yes, I know there's a large fire. No, we are not going to check it out.

Why do you think we're running?

Yes! I knew I'd find my way back. I always do. Come on, then. You first.

Don't just stand there, we are not done running.

I glance back to see the rest of the building going up in flames and let myself smile at the sight. Then I remember you are with me and must be slowing because I almost trip over you.

The fuck! Keep going!

Don't worry about the building. It's fine. We just need to GO.

Even as we make it back to the road and we start making our way down, I will not tell you anything. Don't ask. Believe me when I say it's for the best.

Yeah, I'd rather it be silent.

Damn phone ringing again.

"Hello?"

"Hey, Blue. Er, lieutenant, I know you weren't supposed to work today and hope you aren't busy, but we could really use you right now. We're calling in some back up. I guess there's a bug going around on third shift. Think you could help cover?"

I mumble a short 'fuck' under my breath. I know you hear it but they don't.

"Yeah. Of course. Just.. I might be a little late."

"That's fine, we just need the extra help today."

"Of course."

I quickly hang up and jam my phone in my back pocket, running my hands along my face. It's not what I need right now, I've already got you to deal with.

I quickly come to a decision and start looking out for.. yes. Exactly that.

Some dumb ass left their car out here. Er.. I mean.. this is totally my car I am letting you drive back. No, I don't need a ride. I have one. Er.. I'll be fine. Just go. I can see the slightly concerned look. Just drop it.

And don't you dare mention any of this shit to Wanda. No, I'm not doing anything illegal. But it's not something she needs to know about.

It's honestly not something you should know about.

Now shut your pretty head up and go. Yeah, we're parting ways here. Now get along. Go to the little avengers and bother my girlfriend so I can get to work.

Wandas POV

I received a text from Alex earlier saying she got called into work tonight as they needed the extra help.

I know we spend most of our time together, actually most of these last few months have been consumed by spending time with her. And it's been worth it.

But now she has to work when she already couldn't hang out today.

I've been moping around my room most of the day, finally growing sick of doing nothing. Now I truly don't know what to do. I was planning on hanging out with her tonight, but I guess I could see what Nat was up to.

As long as she isn't with Spencer.

I knock on Nats door once I get there and wait for her to open it.

"Hey N- wait, why do you have your uniform on? Are you going on a mission?"

"Yeah. Didn't you get the message?" She questions me.

"Uh.. no.." I admit. Must have been too distracted by Alex's message to notice. My bad.

"Well a bunch of us are needed, you included. In like ten minutes. You might want to go get ready," she says doing up one of the many buttons and zippers on her suit.

I groan, "fiiine." I turn around with an eye roll. I guess Alex isn't the only one that has to work tonight.

It doesn't take me long to get ready, especially since I don't really have any actual weapons I need to grab, just my little get up.

Which I know Alex would absolutely drool over.

So yeah, I take a few extra moments to take a selfie I know she'll love and send it to her.

Once I've completed that, I head to the jet knowing that's where everyone will be waiting.

"Finally! Okay, Clint, we can go!" Steve yells once he sees me enter the aircraft.

I roll my eyes, "really Steve?"

"Yeah everyone has been waiting for you."

I scoff, "oh for maybe two minutes."

"Actually the message said to be here at 8," he points out.

Right, the message I didn't see. I look at my phone and see that it's in fact 8:18. Oops. "Sorry, I didn't see the message. But I'm here, so let's go."

And without another moment to waste, Clint has us in the air flying off to.. where ever we're suppose to go for whatever this mission it.

Actually.. "where are we going? What happened?" I realize I have no idea what we're about to get into.

"Really?" Bucky asks.

I let my eyes glow red to mess with him, "yeah, really, Buck. I told you I didn't see the message."

"It's actually not far from here but we're worried we don't have much time. There was an explosion of an older building. One were pretty sure had something to do with hydra." Steve explains.

"Oh. Shit. Why do we think it's blown up? How do we know it's hydra?"

"It was actually a building we've had an eye on for awhile. Didn't really seem too active, mostly an in between house. There would be a person there every once in awhile. Until today. When it blew up," Nat says.

Sam makes an explosion sound while motioning with his hands. I smile at his demonstration.

"Great. So it's blown up. Why are we going to see a bunch of rumble?" Not that I had plans, but I'm still curious as to why we were all being drug out here.

The jet is already landing. I guess it's a lot closer than I thought. Which is actually really unnerving. A hydra safe house was this close to us? If they feel that unthreatened by us to be that close..

"Because we need to see why it was blown up. It doesn't make any sense. Either hydra blew it up themselves because they knew we knew about it. Or someone could have been hiding in there they wanted gone.." Clint stars to list.

"Or maybe someone else found out it was hydra and wanted to blow it up. Or they're trying to hide something that happened there. Or someone," Nat continues.

"Right. The point is, we need to try to figure that out," Clint ends.

We're all exiting off the jet now and I can still feel the heat radiating from the few piles of random building debris.

The smoke is still suffocating, we all involuntarily let out a few coughs before trying to protect our lungs from any further destruction.

"I don't think we're going to get anything out of this pile of shit. Just about everything is burnt to a crisp," Sam points out.

"Yeah, just about everything. So look at anything that might be of use," Steve says, walking away to investigate.

I look around with my brows furrowed, looking at anything that could possibly be something. Based off of what little is left and the fact that there's no fire blazing, there isn't going to be much. Yes there's a few embers burning, but that just shows how hot it must have been.

One thing I do notice is how crazy fast everything must have burnt. I don't know how large the building was, but the fire must have been pretty intense to do this kind of damage this effectively. Even with no one here to put it out. Something just doesn't feel right. It actually seems familiar..

Random building in the middle of no where going up in flames? A potential hydra base? Yes, this is a bit farther away than that building, but still, it all seems too similar to be a coincidence.

So I decide to voice those exact thoughts to the team, filling them in once they all gathered back to me.

"So.. you're saying you think this might be the same person? Or at least something hydra has planned?"

"Yes! I know my memory of what happened in that fire has never fully one back to me, but I know I heard people fighting! It's what drew me back downstairs to begin with. I didn't make that up," I desperately try to get them to see my point.

Clint places a hand on my shoulder, "don't worry, Wanda. We believe you. It just.. that was so long ago. It's hard to truly connect the two incidences. Especially since we have no proof anyone was even here or fighting when it happened."

Ugh. Why do I have to do all of the thinking around here?

"Can we just keep it as a possibility? It seems to.."

"Damn it," Tony finally speaks up after this whole trip.

"What, Tony?" Steve asks.

He looks up to us with some regret in his eyes, "um.. I guess there's something you should all know. It's just.. Fury and I were keeping it under wraps until we could find out more information.."

He drifts off taking a look around us.

"But this all seems like too much of a coincidence."

We all just wait for him to continue, wanting to know what he's been holding back on us.

"Out with it already Stark," Steve commands.

"Fine. So.. there may be this.. enhanced person we've been trying to find for awhile. One that may have connections to hydra. One we can't seem to find a trace of. But.. we're all so sure this," he points to the building behind him, "this could be the works of them. It's why Fury wanted us all to check it out."

"Seriously, Tony? You could have told us that beforehand so we knew what we were dealing with.."

I quickly tune out Steve and Tony's petty bickering over who should know what.

I quickly look for Nats eyes to see if she's thinking the same thing I am;

Is this the person Yelena was supposed to find?
