《Into the fire》Chapter Fifty Three

Alex's POV

"Don't worry, babe. You've been studying non stop. Plus you're incredible at your job, you know literally everything there is to know about fires and stopping them. You've got this test in the bag!" Wanda tells me as she holds my arm.

"We're stood outside the building I'm suppose to take my captains test in. And I can't move. I don't know how. I think I'm forgetting everything I've ever known about anything right now. What if I fail? If I fail this, how could I show my face at the firehouse again? Is it worth it? Maybe I shouldn't do this.

"Babe."

I hear Wanda. I know and understand that she's saying words, but they are not forming anything coherent in my brain.

"You've got this," she assures me again.

"Yeah.." I'm not so confident.

"You" she kisses my cheek "have" she kisses my forehead "this" she finally kisses me properly. I surprise her by swinging her down in my arms and deepening the kiss.

"Wow."

All I can do is smirk, "now I'm ready."

She nods her head letting out a breathy, "yeah."

I squeeze her hand before turning to head into the building.

"Wait," she pulls my arm back, smashing our lips together once more, only breaking when we need to breath. "Ok. Now you can go." I stumble backwards before turning to the door, looking back to her before opening it. The last thing I see before entering the building is her sending me off with her award winning smile.

The door latches shut behind me as I let out a long breath. Just take the steps forward. Take a seat. Take the test. Simple. Wanda is right; I can do this.

—————

I was born in a flame

Mama said that everyone would know my name

I'm the best you've never had

If you think I'm burning out, I never am

I'm on fire

I'm on fire

I'm on fire

I'm on fire

FIREBALL!!

Screaming Fireball by Pitbull at the top of my lungs into my empty beer bottle, dancing on top of my dining room table, my firehouse crew at my feet yelling the song or cheering me on, loving every second of it. The music is practically shaking my house.

I just received the news this morning that I passed my captains exam, so I invited everybody over to my place for a little celebration.

Which has turned into a whole ass party.

I've lost count of the amount of drinks and shots I've taken, which is partly why I'm singing on my table. Also because it's a lot of fun.

I wave my hands to signal to everyone to part the floor. Once they do, I turn around and do a black flip off the table, landing perfectly just as the base drops again on fireball.

Okay, so I wobble a little bit. Just a tad.

But the applause.

"Alex! What the fuck!" Wanda is by me, holding my waist.

"Oh, hey, Wanda!" I kiss her cheek. "I've missed you, babe!" I pull her into a hug, as I hear her chuckle.

"I missed you too," she pokes my stomach to push away from me, "but don't go doing flips off the table! You're absolutely trashed."

"Babe! I totally landed that! And I looked like a badass!"

"Hell yeah!" Andrew says as he is walking by so I hold up my hand, which he high fives.

Wanda playfully rolls her eyes, "you are insufferable."

I give her my best pout, hoping to pull her lips back into my favorite smile.

It works, "stop being so cute!"

"No!" I laugh. "If I did, I'd lose you!" I pull her back to me, holding her tight.

She looks right into my eyes, searching them. I'm sure they're glossed over, unfocused. "You won't lose me, Blue. Ever."

"I like the sounds of that," I use my free hand to pull her into me.

"Alex"

"Ugh," I roll my eyes as I'm forced to pull away from Wanda. "What, Maxxy?"

"More shots!" Yeah, she has a whole tray of them.

I reach my hand out to grab a shot once again.

But my arm won't move. I look down to see a red glow around it, keeping it in place. So my eyes follow up to Wandas.. head tilt. Oh shit.

"There's no way you're taking anymore shots," damn, it's hot when she's like this. So I'll push my luck.

"Just one more?"

"No."

"But-"

"No."

"Fine." I turn back to Max who is trying and failing to hold in her laughter. So I mouth 'give me a minute' to her.

She nods, laughing as she walks around to take the shots to other people who's girlfriend won't stop them from drinking more.

I go to give Wanda some excuse as to why I need to walk away for a moment, ya know, so I can drink more, but, I don't have to.

I'm being pulled away from her towards the dance floor by an unknown person. I just smile innocently as she glares at me. "I love you!" I shout out before I'm drowned out by the music.

And now I'm dancing along to Levitating by Dua Lipa with Liz, shouting the lyrics at the top of our lungs. I love this song, so I don't hold back. Okay, I haven't really held back all night. But can you blame me? I'm a captain!

But then the song switches and she turns around, dancing on me as I take the shot that Max was able to sneak over to me.

That's when I realize what is happening and know that Wanda would not like this one bit. But maybe that could work in my favor? If I play my cards right..

I don't even get a chance to think, if I can even properly do that right now. I'm yanked away from Liz and spun around to face Wandas head tilt. Again.

"Uh, hey babe.." that's when Liz walks away, winking at me. I get it. This bitch wants me to be in trouble.

"No. No, 'hey babe.' You took another shot! And you're dancing with Liz?!" Oh she's mad. Luckily I have all the charm.

"I'd rather dance with you!" I take her hand and start twirling us around. I see her trying to hide her smile.

"This still doesn't excuse.."

"I'll lay off the drinks, promise." Then I pull her in for another kiss. Something I could never tire of doing. Something I want to do for the rest of my life.

Oh shit..

Must be the alcohol talking. Yup.

I shake my head of the thoughts so I can focus back on my girlfriend who is.. ooh, who is not being fair to me right now.

Her grass skirt moving to the rhythm of her hips has me entranced.

Yeah. They wanted to go with a luau theme. Their hearts are in the right place. But I made sure they incorporated more than just tiki torches and coconut bras.

Seeing Wanda in a coconut bra.. Okay, fine. She has a shirt on underneath, unfortunately. But I know what's under that bra and skirt. That's enough.

My house has way too many people in it.

Should have just celebrated with Wanda..

"What're you thinking about?" She smirks. Oh, she knows.

I look back down at her, slowly taking in her outfit before meeting her eyes.

"You know exactly what I'm thinking," I growl, biting at her ear.

She shakes her head, doing her best to keep the red from her cheeks. It's not working.

"Nope. You have a party to host. You'll have to wait," she winks before strutting off. Leaving me standing in the middle of the dance floor, open mouthed.

Thankfully it's only a moment or two later when I'm brought back to the party, so I start dancing around with whomever is near me. Jumping as we sing along to the lyrics, feeding off of each other's energy.

We Are Young by Fun. starts to play and I sing like there's no tomorrow.

Wanda even joins us on the make shift dance floor.

"You know, ever since that night you sang to me at the karaoke bar, I've been obsessed with your voice."

I chuckle, "how can you even hear me over the music?!"

"I can hear your voice. It stands out. You have all of my attention, Blue."

And I just melt at her words. So I start singing to her, differently than last time, though. This time there's no angst, there's no not - so - subtly undressing her with my eyes.

There's me and her on this dance floor, swaying to the music.

And the night goes on and on. I have no idea what time we all passed out or where every one passes out. I do know that it's a damn good thing none of us are on shift tomorrow.

I also know that I'm laying on the ground, Wanda in my arms as we whisper back and forth to each other, sharing stories each more ridiculous than the next, getting the other to laugh, but trying not to wake anyone else up.

(Though I think they're all out cold.)

It's crazy much I love her. It's easy. It's.. I'm happy. I'm so happy.

I've got my amazing firehouse family supporting me. I've passed my captains test.

And to top it all off, I have the best girlfriend.

One I don't plan on letting go.
