《Into the fire》Chapter Fifty

Wandas POV

I woke up this morning in a VERY good mood.

Alex and I have been official for about a month.

And every morning I wake up with her on my mind and it never ceases to brighten my mood, usually lasting all day.

Alex had to work yesterday and didn't get home until late, sleeping most of the morning. So I am very much looking forward to our date tonight.

I've missed her. In more ways than one.

But again, that should be taken care of tonight.

For now I'm making the team breakfast: pancakes, french toast, bacon, sausage; I'm going all out.

Why? Because I feel like it.

"Woah. Wanda. It smells amazing!" Peter exclaims as he jumps onto a stool at the counter.

"Thanks, Pete. Everything should be ready in about ten minutes if you can wait?" I ask as I continue to flip the French toast.

"For all of this? He.. I mean, yes. Absolutely."

I give him some side eye because I was sure I was about to hear Peter swear.

"Wanda! You cooked for us? How generous of you!" Tony comes waltzing in here.

"I did. It's almost ready, if you can wait," I look up at him only to see just about everyone else also in the kitchen.

Nat walks in last and I can tell that she immediately looks at the shirt I'm wearing, smirking once she reaches my eyes. I tilt my head in confusion and look down.

Right.. I'm wearing the firehouse 11 shirt Alex gave me. I'm sure that won't go unnoticed. Usually if there's food in front of them they're pretty focused on that and nothing else, so it may take awhile.

"If you guys grab plates, you can start eating," I inform them.

It only takes about a second for them to react.

Soon enough we're all at the table eating and talking our morning away.

"Lady Wanda, this was delicious. For whatever reason you decided to make food for us, I thank you so much," Thor booms.

I go to answer, but I'm beat to it.

"Yeah, actually, that's a great point, Thor. Why did you make us breakfast? And why are you wearing a firehouse 11 shirt?" Clint asks, taking a bite of his food while he waits, eyebrows raised.

"Was going to make breakfast for myself anyway and figured I might as well make some for everyone. That way we could all eat together?" Doesn't seem like many of them believe me. I kind of ignore the question about the shirt hopeful that they'll drop it.

"Well. I'm glad you did," Peter says continuing to eat the food.

"Nope. I don't believe it. In fact, you've been awfully cheery this whole week, Wanda. Why?" Tony narrows his eyes at me in accusation.

"I can't just be in a good mood?"

"Oh, you could. But it's unlikely," Bucky smiles a little proud of himself.

These people can be insufferable. And no, obviously, they don't know I'm dating Alex. Well, Nat does. And Yelena. But that's it.

"Okay, guys. The third degree is completely unnecessary," Nat sticks up for me, which I'm grateful for.

"Okay so Natasha knows? Now you have to tell us," Clint just won't drop it. "I'm sure it has to do with the shirt now seeing as though you completely ignored that comment." He smirks like he's so smart.

"Alex and I are official, okay?"

I have some quizzical looks. Right.. most of them don't really know.

I roll my eyes, "the girl I was seeing? The firefighter? We made it official."

I may be a little annoyed, but I still smile at the thought.

"Oh, yeah! I remember her, now. She's a lieutenant on firehouse 11, right?" Steve asks.

"She is," I say proudly. "She has been for a few years now. One of the youngest women to be, in fact. Her house really looks up to her."

I gushed. So what?

"Yeah, and I'm sure seeing her in her uniform doesn't hurt," Nat says just loud enough for me to hear. Annnd apparently Clint and Tony as well.

I give her a light kick to her leg.

We share a look.

Ugh, tonight can not get here fast enough.

Alexs POV

I'm suppose to be going on a date with Wanda tonight.

I still am, don't worry.

But there may be a slight change of plans that I hope she's okay with.

I debated just talking to her about it when I got there, but decided it would be best to give her a heads up.

After a few rings, she picks up answering cheerily, "hey Blue! I can not wait for our date tonight. These people are driving me up the wall." And then she laughs that laugh that lights my world ablaze.

"Me too, sunshine. But um.." how do I say this?

"Oh no.. that sounds like the start of an 'I have to cancel' apology," she says, the deflation evident in her voice.

"No! No, I'm not canceling. No way I'm missing out on seeing you. I just.."

"Yes?" She encourages.

"So.. there's this thing at work tonight. And um.. I wasn't going to go. But then the crew just kept pestering me about being a lieutenant and not showing up. And since I've missed quite a few of their little whatever they calm them, I kind of felt bad and said I'd go," I know, I know. My rambling was all over the place.

"Oh.. well, okay. That's fine," she still sounds upset.

"Are you sure? You don't sound sure. Talk to me," I encourage her.

"No, it is fine. I just wanted to spend some time with you, but I know when duty calls you have to answer and that after hour stuff happens too."

"Um.. yeah. I mean, it's not exactly work. And it should be fun. But we don't have to go if you don't want to?"

There's a pause.

"You.. you want me to go to your work meeting?"

Now I get the confusion and let out a small laugh, "it's not a meeting, it's a volleyball game. That I would absolutely love to have you come to."

"Volleyball game?" She asks incredulously.

"Yeah! They try to do it like once a month. It's nothing serious, we all meet up at the park where they have a beach volleyball court. We all bring food and drinks and play a few games and yeah. It's just to relax a little bit," I shrug my shoulders even though I know she can't see me.

"Oh. Well, why didn't you say so, I would love to!" The cheer back in her tone let's me release the tension I was holding.

"Perfect, thank you, sunshine. It's actually starts earlier than our date, 4 pm. So we can get it all in before dark. Of course we don't have to stay the whole time!" I'm quick to add, not knowing how much time she wants to commit to this since she was expecting more of a one on one date.

"No, that sounds like a lot of fun. I think I even have to time to make a dish or two," she offers.

"Oh, you totally don't have to. You're my guest, you aren't required," I assure her.

"Mhm. And what were you going to bring?" I can practically feel her narrowed accusing eyes from here.

"Uh.. I was going to grab some cookies?" I hadn't thought about it. But they don't expect me to bring much. They should be grateful I'm showing up, especially since I was suppose to spend a night alone with Wanda..

"Right.. from the store I presume?" She doesn't give me a chance to answer, "no, I'll make something. Besides, it gives me something to do until you get here."

Hard to argue with that, "okay, as long as you're sure. Although, I will warn you, once you make something, they'll expect it every time." I laugh until the silence on the other line makes me swallow it back.

Was I too presumptuous about her coming to more of the firehouse events? Or her making food? Maybe she was hoping I'd say something else?

"Um.. or, you know. You don't have to. They expect cookies from the store. And I wouldn't want to put you out. Or I could help you cook or.."

"Alex. It's fine. I offered. Nat had just asked me a question. I am completely fine with making something. Although I wouldn't say no to you coming early to help." hear the tease? She isn't hiding it.

"Well, I don't know how I could say no to that. I just have to pack my car for the game and then I'll be over, if that's alright?"

There's another pause, but this time I can hear what sounds like cupboards opening and closing.

"Actually.. on second thought, we have absolutely nothing to use in this kitchen. There's about 100 of us but somehow no one can ever go shopping," I just know she's looking in a cupboard shaking her head.

And the thought of the only thing being left in there being Thor's pop tarts along with Wandas adorable nose scrunch makes me smile.

"Okay, so new plan. I will come pick you up in.. half an hour? And then we can go shopping for whatever you need. And I'll even offer up my kitchen. The poor thing doesn't know what it's like to have someone cook in it," I joke.

I get her to laugh, and that makes my day.

"Okay. I'll be ready. Don't keep me waiting, Blue."

"Wouldn't dream of it, sunshine."
