《Into the fire》Chapter Forty Six

Wandas POV
Alex wanted to take me out on a date in two days. So I have those two days to talk to Yelena about this.
I know they didn't technically date, but I still feel the situation warrants some kind of heads up.
So I asked her to lunch today.
I am nervous as all hell for some reason.
We're meeting at a local cafe, one I know Spencer and Nat have taken her to before and she liked. She's suppose to be meeting me here, though she isn't here yet. I did arrive a little early.
"Hey, Wands," her greeting does nothing to calm my nerves, even with her cheery tone.
I stand up to greet her, pulling her in for a hug, "hey! Thanks for coming, Lena."
"Yeah, thanks for the invite," there's some slight hesitancy in her voice as she sits down across from me.
"Of course! I feel like we haven't gotten to hang out enough!" Too much enthusiasm? Maybe.
"Right. I have missed you," she smiles.
I really need to chill.
Luckily the longer we sat there talking, the calmer I became. The food was delicious, the company was better.
But all too soon, it seemed like lunch was over and we were going to leave. And I haven't told her yet.
"Okay, what is it?" Yelena asks me.
"What?"
"I'm not stupid, Wanda. You brought me here for a reason. It's something Nat and Spencer do. I wanted you to sweat it out a little bit. But I feel like your heart might explode. So talk to me."
I should have known she would know. She was also a black widow.
"Um, well.. I didn't really know how to say this.. but, well.."
"Wanda, whatever it is, just tell me."
I take a deep breath, "Alex wants to take me on a date." Then I hold my breath, awaiting her answer.
Her expression is blank and the time it takes for her to respond only increase my fear. And she thought my heart was going to explode before.
"Okay.."
That's it? What do I say?
"Yeah.." awkward silence.
"I thought she hated you."
"Uh, yeah. So did I. Well, I guess she did. But we started working together on the fires and she said something about doing it for the cameras. Once I told her she inspired the whole volunteering thing we just.. started to talk."

"Huh."
I feel the need to keep explaining, "and.. I guess whatever there was between us just kind of.. rekindled? Or started or something. I don't know. I honestly never expected this."
She nods her head, "okay."
She is not giving me anything here. It is not easy to talk to a trained spy like this. If only I didn't care about reading her mind. No. That would make this worse.
She's looking down at her now empty plate, studying it.
"Wanda." She looks up at me.
"Yeah?"
"I'm not upset."
"No?" She kind of seems it. But then again, she's also really hard to get a read on her emotions. I could see where Alex balanced her out.
"No. With Alex.. it wasn't real. She was the perfect girlfriend. But it was never suppose to go beyond the job, and it hasn't. It doesn't sound like something you were plotting out or anything. So. We're good."
"We are?"
"Yes. Go on your little date with Blue," she gives me a real smile.
I jump over and bring her into a hug, "thank you."
"Uh, you're welcome? You are very excited about this," she points out.
I instantly pull back, a little embarrassed, "um.. yeah, I guess. There's just this.. pull. One that kept bringing us back together. And whenever we were together there was this undeniable energy, a fuel that was sitting there waiting and she lit the match."
"Well, it sounds very cute and mushy. I hope you have a good time. When is this date?"
"Day after tomorrow. It's going to be a day date and.."
Then we talked for awhile longer about the date and how she asked (without some of those details) and what it could be that we're doing before going our separate ways.
And I went home knowing that everything was okay. Yelena and Alex are over and she's completely okay with Alex and I going out.
Everything seemed to be fitting into place.
——————
It's today. And it's already about time for our day date.
She did not tell me what we were doing, but she did tell me to wear more comfortable clothing. So after tearing through my closet again, with the help of Nat this time, I'm sitting here anxiously waiting for her to pick me up.

Yes, Nat knows now. I told her after I talked to Yelena. She's happy for us. She wasn't entirely surprised either, she had her suspicions.
Just as I'm about to look at my phone for a message from her for the millionth time that morning, there's a knock on the door.
I am so grateful Tony took off the notifications for Jarvis for when people get here. Unless we ask him to or it's some kind of intruder, he keeps quiet. Otherwise I'd have so many people sitting here waiting with me.
I swiftly walk to the door, taking a moment to breathe before opening it up to reveal Alex standing there with a smile on her face, blue eyes shining in the sun.
There goes my heart, changing up its own beat.
"Hey," I greet, eyeing the hand that's behind her back.
"Hi," she greets, bringing her hand in front of her to reveal a helmet?
"Umm?"
"I hope you don't mind riding on my bike?" She asks hesitantly, glancing back behind her at this said bike.
It's flat black with some bags on the side. I don't really know anything else about bikes to describe it to you. Sorry.
But the thought of riding the bike is a little intimidating.
"I.. never have before," I admit. "I don't know if.."
"Oh, um. I'm sorry. This was dumb. I should have asked ahead of time. Uh.. I can go back and get a car or call an Uber?"
"No, no. This is fine. It looks like fun. Let's do it," I'm kind of sure. I'm talking myself into it.
"Are you sure? I mean I don't want to make you do anything you don't want to."
"Nope. I'm good." I grab the helmet and go to put it on.
"Okay," she laughs. "Let's go."
She takes my hand bringing me over to her bike, then grabs her helmet from the handlebars and puts it on with ease.
I'm still stuck on how to secure this thing.
She notices.
"Here, let me." And maybe it's a little cheesy but where our skin makes contact, there's a spark. My breath hitches at the contact.
"There you are, good to go," that damn smile with those eyes is such an unfair combination.
She swings her leg over, situating the bike, pulling the helmet down. Then she turns, offering me her hand.
I don't move. I can't.
"Hey, Wanda? We really don't have to take the bike," she speaks softly.
"No. No, I want to," I still don't move.
She offers her hand once again and this time I take it, copying her and swinging my leg over, settling on behind her.
I can see the benefits of riding her motorcycle and it's literally right in front of me. She's in between my legs, something I definitely like. I get to wrap my arms tightly around her center, her perfume taking up the air in my helmet.
This might not be so bad.
"Are you ready?"
"Yeah." I am this time.
She starts the engine, it's louder than I thought it would be; it drowns out anything else.
Then she's pulling out of the driveway, on our way towards wherever the hell she's taking us for this day date.
She'd speed up every once in awhile making me tighten my grip on her. Not complaining. This is actually really fun, once I opened my eyes and took in the scenery flying by us.
I almost don't even care where we're going. I'd be completely happy riding around all day with no destination in mind.
She's taking us through some hills, and back roads, most of which I've never seen. I forget how beautiful this part of the state can be.
I really should get out and explore it more.
Maybe I can with Alex. She seems to know her way around. Or she's just completely guessing.
Either way, I am so happy I'm on this date right now. A few months ago if you told me I'd be riding on the back of Alex's bike on a date, I would have laughed my ass off. I would have liked the idea, but I wouldn't have believed it.
And yet, here we are, winding our way through upstate New York on our first date.
It's crazy how things can work out.
You never know what will happen if you keep yourself open to the possibilities.
And I feel like this is the start of something amazing.
And I can't wait to see what happens.
