《Into the fire》Chapter Forty One

Wandas POV

As soon as I got home I had every intentions of going right to my room to get ready for drinks with Blue.

And I'll be doing it with a smile.

I know she still had to go back to her station and everything, but I wanted to be ready for when she was ready.

But my plans were thwarted by Nat almost as soon as I walked in the doors.

"Wanda. Hey. Are you hungry? I made some pasta and by some miracle the boys didn't eat it all."

I am hungry, but I don't know if I have time for pasta.

I glance over to the elevator trying to determine how long it may take me to get dressed. But if I get dressed first Nat may wonder why I'm all dressed up. But if I try to eat first she still may see me trying to leave. It would probably be best if I got dressed first to be sure I was ready..

"Um, Wanda? It's okay if you don't want to eat, I just thought maybe you'd be hungry?" Nat is suspicious.

Probably because I'm acting weird.

"No, um. I'm just going to get out of these clothes first and then I'll be right back," I'm already walking away.

"Okay?"

And I'm gone. Thankfully I had already started to think of what I would wear on my way here. Okay maybe as soon as she asked me.

I'm going for a little revealing, but still classy.

And I have just the outfit.

But I should definitely jump in the shower..

Only like half an hour later I am satisfied with the outfit and my hair.

Now all I have to do is dodge Nats questions.

Easy enough.

"Okay. Who is the hot date?"

Well that didn't take long at all.

"No date."

She doesn't even respond. She just slides the pasta over to me with a questioning look.

It's no use.

"Okay. So I may be going out for drinks. But it's not a date! I'm just going out with a friend."

"Mhm. Sure. You don't have to tell me. But I'm not stupid."

"I don't think you are, Nat. And it really isn't a date." Although I'm making it sound more suspicious by not saying, right?

"Okay. I believe you. Just eat your pasta."

I do start to eat

I'm gonna tell her.

"It's with Blue," I barely speak.

"Sorry?"

"I'm going to get a drink with Blue," I say with a little more conviction.

She looks a little surprised. That's fair.

So I explain further, "Max asked me to try to talk to her. I guess she can kind of spiraled and closed herself off after.. Alex snapped at me today and wants to make it up to me. I'm just trying to be a friend."

Nat nods her head, staying silent for way too long.

It gets to be too much, "Say something. Please."

"I don't know what you want me to say, Wanda. If you say you're going as a friend, then I believe you. There's nothing wrong with that."

I still feel weird about it. I don't know why. So I take another bite of food.

"Just be careful."

What? I'm so confused, "be careful?"

"If you need me, I'm here. That's all I'm saying."

Okayyy..

Saved by the phone.

I know a smile spreads across my face as I see that she messaged me, asking where to pick me up. I go to answer her without even thinking.

She'd be coming to the avengers tower. Is that a good idea?

"Do you think it's a good idea to have her come here?" I voice my worry to Nat.

"I guess. Fury isn't worried. She isn't a person of interest anymore. She doesn't hate you, obviously."

"Okay," so I send the text. She says she'll be here in a 20 minutes.

It goes by quickly and I'm rushing over to the door, grabbing my purse as I open the door, greeting her with a smile.

She looks me up and down. "Wow, Wanda. You look.. incredible."

Thank goodness it's dark outside and she can't see the red that grows over my face.

"Uh, thank you. You clean up very well." She really does.

"Uh, thanks.." she looks away briefly clearing her throat. Did I make her blush? "Shall we?" She offers me her arm and I take it.

We walk up to a taxi, which is smart. She opens the door and lets me in before running over to the other side.

"Do you have anywhere you prefer to go?"

My mind immediately flashes to the karaoke bar where she undressed me as she sang. Well, you know.

"Um, I'm good with anywhere."

"Okay. I have the perfect place."

And soon we're driving off, only talking about the fires we went to today, which I didn't mind.

I don't expect her to tell me everything right away in the back of a taxi.

I also enjoy this. Talking to her is so easy. She makes me want to tell her everything.

What are the odds she took us to the karaoke bar?

(It's very high. That's where she took us.)

"I'm not saying we have to sing, because I'm not really much of a singer, but let me at least get the first round of drinks?"

I mean.. I don't want to say no. That would be rude.

She actually buys the first three rounds. And two shots. And I'm feeling it.

In the best way possible.

"Okay. Okay. But you have to admit you were totally fucking with me!" I say through the laughter.

"What! No. Definitely not," but she smirks as she takes another drink.

"What? And you're going to tell me when you sang MAMMAMIA to me that it was all innocence?" I challenge.

"Even if I tell you it was, I feel like you wouldn't believe me," she teases.

"You're right, I wouldn't."

We laugh for a bit, me probably more than I should. But those drinks.

"You weren't all innocent either there, Maximoff."

There she goes with my last name again..

"I never claimed to be," now I take a drink.

"Touché. Well played."

"Thank you," I try to take a bow and just about fall out of my seat.

Thankfully she catches me.

"Woah. Maybe we skip the next round, yeah?" She only half jokes. I think. I'm still too busy laughing.

And this is the moment that someone decided to sing More Than a Friend by GIRLI.

"Ooh. We have to dance to this song!" I am way too excited as I stumble over those words.

"Oh, I don't know.. dancing?"

"Yes! Come on, you already sang to me. You can't tell me you don't like dancing either."

I give her my best puppy dog eyes.

She finally smiles, I know I've got her. "Fine. For this song."

She lets me pull her over to the dance floor where I immediately start dancing against her, but she spins me around so we're face to face.

It's only a few more words into the song and we're singing it to each other, letting the music guide us.

Actually, no. She's guiding us. And.. she's actually a pretty good dancer. I kind of get lost watching her hips move, her hands moving mine with her.

Then I draw my eyes back to hers.

And it's probably the alcohol or the song or the dancing. The closeness of our bodies. The building tension we always seem to have.

Those damn blue eyes.

The combination of it all.

Whatever it was, it has us growing closer together.

Our breath mixing as we finish singing the song.

And then in a matter of seconds, our lips are crashing together, in a dance all their own.

And Alex's hands start roaming my body.

My head is screaming at the rest of my body to stop her.

But again, those drinks.

And it just feels so damn good.

She squeezes my hips while tugging me closer to her, her leg sliding in between my own.

I let out an involuntary moan.

She's smirking, temporarily creating space between us.

"Do you want to go back to my place?" She breaths out.

But that moment when she pulled away and I was able to get some new air in my lungs, well it gave me some clarity as well.

Yelena and Alex just broke up.

Alex is hurting, maybe looking for something to distract that pain.

And we've both been drinking.

"I.. I can't. We shouldn't," I place a hand on her chest, feeling her heart rate pick up at the contact.

"You're telling me you didn't miss this?" She goes to kiss me again and I step back.

"I don't think it's a good idea."

She looks a little hurt. "Why?"

"We've been drinking. And you and Yelena just broke up and I don't want to.."

Her face hardens.

"Is that what this is about?"

Why is she mad at me?

"Yes! You just got out of a serious relationship. I'm not going to be some play toy to you. I know you've messed with me before, but I'm not going to let it happen again. I know you're hurting. But I'm not going to be the answer," suddenly I'm mad. Mad she even tried. Mad at myself. Mad that I even came here expecting anything less.

"Fuck! You treated me like shit. And now I'm suppose to be your distraction? No. Fuck that. And fuck you, Alex."

And I'm storming out of the bar, pushing through the people, already reaching for my phone to dial Nats number.

She said I could call, hopefully she's awake.

"Wait, Wanda!"

I'm not waiting.

"Yeah. Nat. Could you come pick me up? I just.. need you to come get me. I'm at that karaoke bar we went to."

"Of course. I'll be right there."

I have never been so grateful to here those words.

"Thank you."

Now I have to wait. And dodge Alex.

"Wanda!"

She sounds like she's making it through the thrall of people so I decide to walk a little ways away. I don't want her to see me. I have no interest in talking to her right now.

I hear her call my name a few more times, but luckily I think she gives up.

Soon enough, Nat pulls up rolling down the window.

"Hey, are you okay?"

I don't answer, I just get into the car. She takes my silence as a sign and thankfully doesn't make me talk, even when we get back to the compound.

It's one of the few nights I don't have to try not to think about her.
