《Into the fire》Chapter Thirty Three

Wandas POV
So we've been doing this.. community service, if you will, for about a month now.
There's moments when we can't be here, when we're called off by the big boss for the big missions.
But that's okay. Everyone so far has helped at least a day a week when they're here. And there's been a difference around the community.
And I don't just mean physically, although, yes, buildings are being rebuilt and people are able to gather once again where things were torn to pieces.
They're happy and excited. And its infectious.
Every one is always smiling and talking and enjoying the time they've spent building or cleaning or training. It's a general moral booster. One I think we all needed.
It's such a great feeling to see something you've started come together. Seeing the finished product. Knowing you started it with a group of people and you put in all of this hard work and effort, and for the final building to be complete; it's planted a smile on my face for days.
I heard people were already able to move back into the building.
And that's just one of many. Stores have been fixed. Houses have been restored. Life is coming back to the streets that were once haunted by destruction.
It's really amazing getting to be a part of it.
Beyond the missions and the bad guys and the powers. It's amazing to be apart of something like this.
And damn, does it feel good just to be around people. To talk about the weather or sports or the family dinner they went to. Hell, even the horrible dates we get to laugh about or the awkward family reunion.
It makes me.. what I am.. what I'm capable of.. it makes it seem.. less.
It's a part of me. But it is not all of who I am. It's not all that I can do. And it's nice to know that other people see that now. That I'm not some monster. I'm not some experiment.
I'm a person. And I can be whoever I want to be.
Okay, fine.
I use my powers to help move stuff.
But can you blame me? I mean, we are suppose to be using our skill sets. And that's a big one for me. And no one has to break a back doing any heavy lifting.

It's a win win.
Also, people get to see my powers doing something good. Not just taking people out and destroying buildings, but creating and putting things back together.
I had no idea this was something I needed in my life.
I thought I could fill my life just wandering around the compound and trying to save the world as many times as possible from hoards of aliens.
But, who knew a firefighter saving my life from a burning, collapsing building would end up saving it again by showing me the walls outside of the compound? By letting me see what's beyond my safe place, she has opened up my view to so much more.

Another day, another meeting led by Tony.
I truly am starting to believe he just misses us and needs to see us everyday.
"Okay, everyone, thank you for coming. I know you are all very busy but I had a few things to go over," Tony starts.
I mean, you'd almost think he's Steve with having to tell everyone in person about the next team bonding. For a tech genius, it's almost like he forgets the phone exist sometimes and that there's a thing called texting.
"First, we are going to have team bonding tomorrow at 7, the kid is picking out a movie this time. So be prepared for Star Wars," Tony smiles.
"Hey! Star Wars is one of the greatest movie franchises of all time. It stretches over multiple generations and decades of cinematic.."
"Yes, kid. We know. It's amazing. We're all okay with it. You don't have to try to convince us," Clint tells him as he places a hand on his shoulder and effectively stops his rant.
"Right, so, back on track. Movie night tomorrow, 7. Be there. No excuses. Unless you're called out on a mission, but I haven't seen any come up. So no excuses."
"We'll be there, Tony. Was that all?" Bucky asks.
"No, robo arm, it isn't. If everyone would just let me talk.."
"Go ahead Tony, we're listening," I couldn't help but interrupt him. I mean, come on, he set himself up.
There's a few giggles and snickers from the team in appreciation.
Tony narrows his eyes at me, "better watch it, witchy. I know where you live."

Oh my.. Tony really has taken on this dad roll to another level.
"I am very worried," I play along.
"You should be," he sasses back.
"Okay, I feel like we're getting off topic and some of us actually have places we need to go," Carol.
"Ooh, does some one have a hot date?" Bucky teases.
Carol sticks out her tongue, "at least I can get a date."
Bucky fakes being hurt, "you really got me there, Carol. I have just been stuck in my room staring at my ceiling for days on end."
We all know him and Steve are a thing. Everyone. The guardians know about it. Everyone in Asgard. They think they're secretive. They aren't.
But it's adorable.
"Ya know, that does sound about right. You are like, what, 100 years old?" Carol makes fun of Bucky.
Okay, but are you not curious as to who Carol is going on a date with? It would be bad if I read her mind, right?
Yeah, no. I know. Sometimes it's just so tempting..
"I work with children," Tony says. "Listen, since it's a new month I figured it would be fun to change things up a bit. We're all going to try helping in a different area. I know we've all gotten comfortable where we have been, but it's time to switch it up," he announces.
Great. Not that I'm not excited to help out in other areas, I just really liked where I've been working.
There's some small talk about who will be going where before Tony speaks again.
"Okay, now the meeting is actually over. Don't forget to check where you'll be this month and definitely don't forget to be in the movie room at 7 tomorrow," Tony claps his hands as a send off.
I am curious as to where Tony has placed me now, so I decide to ask him now and get it over with.
After everyone has left the room, I stop him from doing so, too.
"Okay, if you're going to throw me around for calling you witchy, can I at least call my suit?"
I roll my eyes, "I don't care about that. I just wanted to know where I'll be this month. I was thinking about going to help today, so.."
"Ah. Sure. That, I can help you with." Tony quickly pulls up the schedule on his phone. (I guess he does remember how to use it.)
"Right. That's what I thought. I moved you to the firehouses."
I have to laugh internally. Because of course.
I must give something away because Tony asks with concern, "that's okay, right? I don't want to throw you into helping clean up burnt down buildings and such if it'll be too much."
Right. Because I almost died in one of those.
But I'm already shaking my head, "no, it's fine. I'll be fine."
"Okay. If you're sure? Because I could always switch you around? I can't believe that slipped my mind. I'm so sorry, Wanda," Tony is sincere.
I let out a soft chuckle, "it's really okay, Tony. I'll be helping clean up, it'll be good. Those nightmares are long gone."
"Okay, good. Glad you're okay. But if it ever becomes too much, just let me know. I don't want you to have to worry about that. I had just thought with your whole 'wiggly woo' thing that it would be super helpful.."
"Tony. Truly. I'm okay. Thank you, though, I do appreciate it. And if I have any issues, which I highly doubt I will, then I will let you know," I assure him.
"Okay, great. I know you'll do some great things with them. It's really been amazing seeing everything come together. It's incredible to know we actually have been a part of it all," not Tony getting all sentimental.
"Yeah. It's been great using my powers for something.. not so destructive. I know I help get some real assholes off the streets, but this is different."
He smiles at me, "it is. And you are really making a difference out there, Wanda. Your magic is good. You are good. I can't wait to see what you do."
Tony has me all emotional.
And he isn't wrong. Doing all of this has really helped me see another side to my powers.
And now I get to help the fire fighters..
Oh shit.
Did you already think of it?
Yup.
I don't know when, but there is absolutely no doubt in my mind that I will be stuck with Alex at some point.
