《Into the fire》Chapter Thirty Two

Wandas POV

"So, I'm sure you're all wondering why I gathered you here today," Tony starts the meeting ever so dramatically.

We're all sitting around the table on the edge of our seats, just about to combust from the anticipation.

"Yes Tony, we usually wonder why we are being called for a meeting. It's not at all surprising. This is like the tenth one so far this month. And it's only the 12th," Nat calls him out.

"Yeah, and the last one was just to tell us all about the next team bonding. Which could have been done in the group chat," Bucky teams up with Nat.

"Okay, rude. Maybe I just want to see your faces and make sure you're doing okay," Tony says back.

I roll my eyes, "please. Isn't that what you say team bonding is for? What's the real reason we're all here, Tony?" I join in on the teasing.

He points his pen at me, "that is highly unnecessary attitude there, witchy. This meeting is for you after all."

I'm confused, "what? For me? Why?"

"Did you forget already?"

"Did we talk and I don't remember it?"

He rolls his eyes, "okay, fine. You're all a bunch of fun suckers. As Wanda has brought to my attention, we're all a bunch of lazy asses."

Why did he have to say it like that?

"Wow, Wanda. What did we ever do to you?" Bucky asks.

"Yeah, we're in the training room everyday," Steve agrees.

"I know you were the big shot last mission but we all contributed," huh, that even upset Bruce who usually just exists during these meetings.

I've had enough, "I did not say that." I turn to Tony, " and really Tony? You had to say it like that? I know what you're talking about now, so why don't you tell them the truth?" I let my eyes glow red for emphasis.

"See? Fun suckers. Okay she didn't exactly say that. But she did bring to my attention how much down time we have in between missions.."

"Speak for yourself. This is the first time I've been back to earth in weeks," Carol speaks up.

Tony keeps going with his speech, "and she pointed out how much more we could do for the community around us. How we can try to help fix some of what we've broken."

"I'm sorry, what we've broken?" Maria scoffs.

What is she doing here?

"Yes. Because in the midst of saving the world, we may have left behind a path of destruction. And we have more than the capabilities to help fix that," Tony explains.

"Great. And I'm assuming you have some sort of plan or something for this?" Bucky asks.

"Of course I do, robo arm."

"Oh, great," Carol sounds thrilled.

"With the help of Wanda and Nat," he gestures to us, bringing everyones attention to us as well, "we have come up with some great ways to help rebuild those around us and continue to make sure the city is safe."

"Okay, what's the play here, Tony?" Clint asks, finally deciding to join the conversation.

"Play? What play?"

"That's what I asked you. What's the goal? The real one. Are cameras going to be there to see us place a few bricks back up, capture our good angles? Help us to truly rebuild our image?" Clint presses further.

"No. And I'm actually glad you brought that up. There will be no cameras, no press, no articles. This isn't to boost the avengers, it's to boost the community. It's about time we did more for the people. I think they deserve that," Tony replies.

"You mean besides saving the world a few times?" Carol.

"Yes, glow stick, besides saving the world. Because due to us saving the world, we have made it a lot harder for those around us to live. We destroyed homes and businesses. And they're all trying to recover. Would it be so bad to try and help them mend that?" Tony argues.

"Of course not, Tony. Look, how about you listen to our plan? We aren't trying to ask you guys to become babysitters or anything like that. Besides, half the time you all just walk around here bored out of your minds," Nat also fights back.

"I agree. I don't know what the plan is. But I think it's a great idea," Steve agrees, sending Nat and I a smile.

"And Wanda and Nat? You were both truly in on this?" Bucky asks.

"Yes," we say at the same time.

"Because that doesn't sound rehearsed," Clint mumbles, narrowing his eyes at Nat specifically.

"It wasn't," I state.

"Remember when I said that it was Wandas idea?" Tony asks with sass.

"Okay. I just wanted to be sure there wasn't a secret agenda. But I'm in, of course," Clint says.

"Ouch. I'll pretend not to be hurt. But thank you, someone with some sense. Now are you all done interrupting and throwing your little temper tantrums so I can actually discuss the plan?"

No one answered, some just nodded their heads.

And Tony took the silence as a good sign, breaking it by clapping his hands together and talking once again, "perfect. Now, like I said, we have a plan that would involve us all helping in a few different areas once or twice a week. We've already talked to Fury and gotten his go ahead on this. He couldn't agree more," Tony pauses to look at everyone's faces.

I take a deep breath. I kind of figured they'd be a little apprehensive at first given that it's Tony telling them what to do in their free time, but I knew they'd come around.

"Okay, I'll bite. What will we be doing?" Carol asks.

"So glad you asked. We have a range of ways we'd like to help out starting with quite literally moving the rubble and shit that we created and left to helping rebuild some of these buildings. We all have different abilities and specialties, but we'll try to help out wherever we can. And that may mean moving from one area to another," Tony explains.

"Okay. That doesn't sound too bad. It could be fun to work with your midgardian tools," Thor says smiling.

"That's the kind of enthusiasm I'm talking about!" Tony cheers.

"So how are we determining who does what?" Clint this time.

"Well, I have somewhat of a schedule figured out. I talked to some people about where we would best be placed and what needs our help the most."

"Okay, and what about getting called on mission?" Steve.

"Obviously if there is a mission it's a priority. Again, this isn't me forcing you to do anything. Though it is, kind of. We're just trying to help in more ways, reach more people. They know we can't be there all the time, but that's not the point," Tony is actually pretty decent at this.

There's some other general questions about what we'll be doing and when we're starting and on and on.

But I kind of tune it all out.

Eh, don't get all pissy. I literally helped Tony figure a lot of this stuff out; I know what he's talking about.

I'm just.. looking at all of these crazy people.

We come from realms and worlds and cities to form this.. team. Most of us couldn't be more different, but somehow we work.

And it's gone beyond just having a common goal or a common enemy anymore; we genuinely care about each other. We want to see the others happy and spend time with them; be a part of the reason they're happy.

And that's something I haven't had.

This sense of family.

Not since.. not since Pietro was still here. I lost a large part of me that day and I don't think I ever quite healed the same. But it's only been because of these people that I've healed at all.

So for us all to come together now, for something so small, but really so big. And to so quickly be laughing and joking; to so easily accept the others idea and be excited to help.

It feels great.

Feels like we have a new life to us.

They know it's something that Nat, Tony and I were able to get behind, something were excited for. And even though it's kind of taking some of their own time, they want to.

And of course it's not just for us three. They see the need. They know. They want to help. And it might take some getting use to, but I think it'll be good for us all.

And maybe there's some hidden fears about letting the people around us see our more human side, that maybe exposing ourselves out in the world a little more might be dangerous, but we know it's worth it. Let's face it, putting our lives on the line is what we do: it's what we do every time we're called on a mission.

Even through all of that fear, there's still a bigger part that wants to show people. Wants them to know; wants to know people.

We'll be out there helping the people, with the people. Give us a chance to be seen as almost.. normal.

I think that's what we all secretly want.

It's why we're able to coexist in one house so easily: we all want that same feeling. We've all lost people and loved ones we care deeply for. We weren't sure if we'd ever have that feeling again, if we'd ever be able to reach it or see it.

And somehow we've been lucky. Because for us, we've found that in each other. We've found that family and that feeling.
