《Into the fire》Chapter Seventeen

Wandas POV
"I'm not the only one insanely glad that we're back home from the mission, right?" I ask hypothetically as I flop down on the couch.
"Not even a little. That shit was brutal," Nat agrees as she also flops down on the same couch as I did.
"Yeah, I'm getting too old to for missions like these," Clint says as he walks by us to take care of his gear.
Nat and I will do that eventually. But first; naps.
"Yes you are, grandpa!" Nat yells after Clint, her eyes already closed. "You handled those aliens beautifully Wanda."
I let out a soft chuckle as I have my eyes closed and ready to sleep, too, "ah you kicked ass like it was your job."
We both laugh a little.
"But for real, Wanda. You did a very nice job of helping save even our asses out there," Nat continues. I wonder if she's even awake anymore and if she might be sleep talking.
It's a thing.
"Thanks, Nat. But it was definitely a team effort. And I know you stopped a few aliens from coming after me. So thank you."
She offers an inaudible sound in response. Not asleep, but very close.
There's some other grumbles as the others disperse, going their own ways to unwind after such a shit mission.
I mean, we beat them, obviously. But damn, did they put up a fight.
"Okay, before everyone leaves to unwind from the fight, which I see some already are," he clears his throat and I open my eyes so I can look at Tony as he speaks. "You all kicked ass out there, I am super proud of you. You deserve the time off. But, I would like everyone down here tonight around 8 for a movie night. I think we could all use an easy night. And it wouldn't hurt to spend time as a team, too."
There's a few 'okays' and a couple of 'sures' as people want to just go back to their rooms and pass out.
"Really, you want to spend more time together?" Bucky asks.
"Yes, Robocop. I think it'd be good for everyone if we hung out and had time to decompress as a unit. Win together, recover together. I'll even order pizza for everyone!"
He's so weird sometimes.
But, there are a few more enthusiastic reactions to the pizza.

I would be one of them if I felt at all like moving or functioning currently.
Then he claps his hands together almost startling me, but I'm use to it. It's Tony.
"Okay, yeah that's it. Everyone do whatever it is you were going to do and I'll see you all at eight."
I let out a grunt as I close my eyes again.
Before I'm fully pulled under, I feel a blanket being placed across me along with Nat, I would assume since she's laying with her head opposite mine but with our legs a tangled mess.
I let the comfort of the blanket lull me the rest of the way into slumber.
——————
"Do you really think all of these snacks are necessary, Nat?" I ask as I'm attempting to carry three arm fulls of junk food to the theater room in one trip.
"Yes! First of all, you know how much the boys can eat. And secondly, Spencer says you can never be too prepared with snacks when watching a movie. It's better to have them all beforehand so you don't have to worry about getting up."
"Wow, Nat. It's really cute how much you talk about Spencer." I can't see her face past all of the food, but I do know she's blushing.
"Oh, shut up. You would be about Lexi too, if you asked her to be your girlfriend already."
I know. I still need to do that. But to be fair, she hasn't asked me either. So..
"Besides. She isn't wrong. Once you get into a movie you don't want to have to pause it to get anything."
I can see where this would have its advantages. But..
"Didn't Tony say he was ordering pizza for us all, too?"
"Yes. He did. But like I said, you know how much the boys can eat. And besides, once the movie is started you'll be glad the snacks are within arms reach instead of going to the kitchen," she defends.
I'm not going to argue. I've already admitted that it seems like a great idea to me. Well, I guess only you and I know that.
"Yeah, I can totally see where it would be useful. And if the boys want anymore than this, they definitely have to get it themselves."
"Absolutely. We are not their caterers. Actually, they should be the ones to get us drinks," Nat suggests.

How did we get all of this food and still not have any drinks? You should see how much food we have. I didn't know we had this much food in the place.
"Agreed. We got the snacks, they get the drinks."
Thankfully we make it to the theater room where pretty much everyone is gathered and the smell of pizza is pungent without dropping anything.
"There we go. Boys you have to get everyone's drink orders and bring them in," Nat tells them.
They don't even question it. Steve, Bucky and Thor go around asking everyone before heading out to the kitchen.
What good boys.
We have them trained well.
They soon return with a platter full of drinks, and it seems like just about everyone asked for an alcoholic beverage to start off with.
Well, everyone but Peter.
It was that kind of fight.
It also appears that they brought out a cooler that has drinks in it as well for later. But, we'll be making another request once the pizzas are gone and we're about to start the movie. They can make the popcorn, too.
Should we trust them with that high priority of a task? We'll find out.
We all enjoyed the pizzas as we briefly chat in between bites about the fight and the close calls we had that day. The drinks helping to ease the tensions almost as much as confiding our stories to each other does.
And I've got to say, it was actually really nice to get to unwind with everyone and let the worries and close calls be talked about instead of tucked away.
We were even able to laugh at ourselves and mess around like a normal group of friends, if you could ever really call us that.
It was a good call on Tony's part.
(Although it seems like we're able to do that more and more. Don't tell Tony, but I think his plot to turn us into a family is kind of working. And I couldn't be happier about it.)
Also, we're already out of pizza.
But the boys did get us another round of drinks.
So as we sit here, "does anyone have a suggestion for a movie we should watch?" Steve asks everyone.
Crickets.
"Tony, you didn't have one in mind?" I aim the task to him.
He shrugs, "not really. Whatever everyone wants to watch. Just wanted to make sure we were all together."
"Okay.. so. Anyone?" Steve presents again.
"Well I don't have one off the top of my head but Spencer made a list of movies that I should watch. Some of them were even ones I should watch with you guys. I can see what's on it?" Nat says as she pulls out her phone.
"Wait.. Spencer made you a list of movies? And specifically ones for the team?" Bucky says in shock.
"Yes." Despite the rose color that takes over her cheeks, Nats voice is firm. "She's a bit of a movie buff.. do you want the suggestions or not?" She ends it with a little more gruff than she started.
"No, we would certainly like the suggestions you have for us, lady Natasha," Thor says smiling.
"Great." Nat starts looking and lists them off as she finds the list.
We settle for The Sandlot, which Nat said she has already watched with Spencer, but it was really good. And given the fact that Spencer literally made a list for us, we figured we'd be pretty safe in the choice.
We all snuggle in with blankets as we reach for our snacks and drinks, pretty much devouring all of the ones Nat and I brought out.
Yup, we need to go shopping again.
But that's okay. We all take turns going out for food or cooking or coming up with something to do. (Okay, it's mostly Tony with the team bonding, but like I said, it's paying off.) It's great to see us all come together as one unit and one team.
I know that's what we are; a team. And we work well together. Almost like one person, as scary as that is to admit.
But it's also these moments afterwards; everyone goofing off and joking around with each other, getting a little tipsy as we enjoy a movie. These are the times no one sees. This is the side of us that's truly hidden from the outside world.
Us simply being..
People.
Where no powers or serums or hammers or suits come into play.
We're just us.
And even though some of us are from different planets or different realms..
It's these moments that make us..
Human.

A World Worth Protecting
By the year 3029 CE, Earth’s technology has developed rapidly, borders no longer exist, and Earth has been unified, marking the beginning of the era of the Federation. At that time, a huge sword flew from the heavens, piercing the sun and causing a huge sensation on Earth. Perhaps because the scabbard of the sword was already in tatters, countless shards have broken off from it following the collision with the sun and spread across the universe. Many of these shards have landed on various places across Earth. With the arrival of the bronze sword and its shards, a new unlimited energy source has suddenly appeared on Earth. This energy source has since been named Spirit Qi. Spirit Qi is like air, thick in some places and thin in others. As the Federation and other factions gather more shards, they discover more information on cultivation, pill refinement, Spirit Stone refinement, and other techniques. The words on the shards have an ancient feel to them, making it a trend for people to use ancient language. The appearance of Spirit Qi rapidly makes the original energy sources obsolete and has completely changed people’s lives. Not only has the Spirit Internet been formed, Spirit Qi has also changed the course of Human Civilization, causing the world to enter a civilization of cultivation. This would later come to be known as the Spirit Inception Era.

When humanity first encountered alien life, we were judged and found wanting. The Galactic Consensus interviewed our leaders and subjected us to a battery of psychological tests to determine our progress as a society. They found us to be selfish, wasteful, impulsive, and boorish neighbors. Earth was blockaded and our collective encounter with our extrasolar neighbors rapidly faded from memory. All they left behind was a hypercomm relay and a handful of subscriptions to a massively multiplayer game that participants played in their sleep. The Consensus said that it would let us interact with our neighbors in a controlled setting. That it would teach us to be better members of the galactic community. The megacorporations that controlled Earth ignored the game until they learned that the powers earned from clearing dungeons were just as real when day broke. Magic, supernatural abilities and rumors exploded from nothing and a subscription to The Tower of Somnus became a status symbol. Katherine ‘Kat’ Debs doesn’t have much, but it could be worse. Born in an arcology, she was assigned a job in the megacorporation that raised her almost as soon as she could work. Despite the stability of her corporate life, she wanted something more. A chance to claw her way up the rigid social and financial ladder to make something of herself.
