《Into the fire》Chapter Fifteen

Wandas POV

We're having a game night.

I know, such a big shocker, right?

The avengers doing a big team bonding is sooo uncharacteristic of us.

And it's suppose to be just us, no outsiders. So I can't even invite Lexi and Nat can't invite Spencer.

Super lame.

But it's 'mandatory.'

So Nat and I are hanging out until we have to go down to the common room.

We aren't entirely sure what this 'game night' is going to entail.

Yes, I put it in quotes. Because Tony was very vague about it all. He said to dress comfortable and be ready for anything.

And with Tony, that could quite literally be anything.

"What do you think he's going to have us do? I mean, it is suppose to be a game night. Are we actually going to play games? What kind of games?"

I can't help but think out loud to Nat, though I don't know if she'll have any answers.

"That, I have no idea. It's Tony we're talking about. I'm sure it'll be some kind of game, but I doubt it's a game we know. He probably made it up," Nat guesses.

"Ugh. I just hate that we can't invite anyone outside of work," I'm a little grumpy.

"Oh? Is someone missing their girlfriend?" Nat teases.

"We aren't official yet."

"Yeah. I wonder why."

"Whatever. Don't you wish you could invite Spencer?"

"Of course I do. I always wish we were together. But she.. had things she had to do anyway," she states like I didn't notice the pause.

"Things she had to do?"

"Yup."

"You aren't going to tell me?"

"Nope."

"Should I look in your head?"

"No!"

"So defensive. Wait.. you don't know what she's doing, do you?"

"No. I know. Well, not the specifics."

"Uhuh. And it's really bugging you, isn't it?"

"Yes. I hate it. Not that I think she's keeping secrets from me, but.."

"It's hard to not know."

"Yes!" She flops down on the bed next to me. "I think I'm just going to get really drunk so I can get through this game night."

"You know, that sounds like a great idea. I think I might just join you in doing that," I'm nodding my head.

"Please do. It'll be way more fun if you're drunk, too. Then we can mess with Tony the whole time."

"I like the way you're thinking. I don't think they could handle us."

"Please, they can't handle us anyway."

She's not wrong.

We kept our deal.

Nat and I are both definitely a little intoxicated. And we aren't ready to stop.

"Okay, okay. Whats game are we playin' next, huh?" Nat asks as she stumbles over the words.

There's laughter, "I don't know if you should be playing any more games there, Nat," Tony advises.

"Psh. It's team bonding game night! We have to play games!" I come to her defense.

"I'm down for a game."

The new voice has us all looking over to the doorway.

What the hell. It's Yelena.

Then I see Nat look at me with a confused look.

I realize I said that out loud. Oops.

"So good to see you too, Wanda," Yelena glares at me.

Good thing I'm pretty drunk.

"Good to see you, Yelena. It's been soooo long. Come have a drink with us," did you hear the sarcasm?

She's still glaring, but she does step forward into the room, taking a seat across from me and downing a shot immediately.

Wait.. why is she grumpy with me? She's the one that made that whole thing awkward.

"Okay, Yelena. What is your prob.."

I'm stopped by a hand over my mouth. Nats hand. What?

"Is this really the place you want to talk to her about that?" Nat whispers so only I can hear her.

She has a point.

She releases me and I keep my mouth shut, taking a drink to make sure.

"So, about that game?" Nat tries again.

"Yes! I think another one of your midgardian games would be splendid," Thor booms.

"Great. Can I suggest truth, dare or drink?" Tony asks.

"Yes!" Why am I so enthusiastic? I don't know. But maybe I'll have a chance to ask Yelena a few questions.

I could just try to read her mind.. but that's a dangerous game. I don't know if I'd like what I see and if I find out that way, then I'm left to asking her anyway. Otherwise she'll know I read her mind and there won't be any trust.

And I don't want to ruin that. We had a friendship going at one point and I'd like to attain that somehow.

So I'm in my head thinking of what I'll ask her for a truth when I'm interrupted by Tony saying my name.

"Wanda?"

"Huh? Oh.. uh. Truth, I guess."

He gets an evil smirk.

Oh boy.

"Why haven't you asked Lexi to be your girlfriend yet? Is the sex that bad? Or haven't you had se.."

"Tony! Come on, man," Clint stops him.

Tony just holds up his hands and sits back.

"I'm just waiting for the right time," I say simply. I don't have to answer anything else.

"Oh come on. That's it?"

"Yup."

And I take a drink just because.

But now I can ask someone.. and I have my own smirk on display.

"Lena. What about you?"

She rolls her eyes. I thought we were suppose to be friends? "Dare."

Damn it. Of course she wouldn't choose truth. Can't give anything away.

But now I don't know what to dare her to do..

"I dare you to drink the rest of the vodka," I know, that was lame, right? I didn't know what else to say and I panicked.

She looks at me as she stands up, grabs the bottle, and finishes it off without flinching.

Okay, that was clearly too easy for her. I would be on the floor by now.

Thank goodness.

And they continue the game as I'm waiting for my turn to ask Yelena a question.

Good thing Thor wanted to ask me soon after.

"Wanda. Truth or dare?"

"Dare."

"I dare you to ask Lexi to be your girlfriend," Thor smiles.

I tense up. I know he means well and probably thinks he's doing me a favor, but I am in no condition to ask her that right now.

I guess I have to take a shot.

But I have another turn to ask Yelena.

"Yelena?"

"Fine. Truth. Go ahead and ask me."

What? How'd she know..

"Um.. uh." She threw me off. "Are you single?" I'm able to spit it out.

I see her jaw working as she fights the answer. But if she takes a drink, that's pretty much answering, too. I have her cornered. Not that that was really my intentions.

She finally lets out a soft, "maybe.."

Of course she doesn't elaborate. She answered the question. She doesn't need to say anything else. And I doubt I'll get another chance to ask her again.

"Yelena! You didn't tell us you were dating someone!" Thor practically shouts as he grabs her shoulder.

"Yeah. Well, we don't really hang out that much, so.." Yelena drifts off. She's clearly not going to give any more information.

I guess they went around a few more times but I really wasn't paying attention.

I really think I need some water or something.

And maybe it's just a coincidence that Yelena decides she's getting up and going to get a drink at the same time.

I pull on Nats arm.

"What?"

"Yelena is leaving."

"Okaaaay? Good for her?"

"So we can go ask her about Blue?"

"Right. Okay. We'll go." She throws back the rest of her drink, placing it on the table before standing up.

We both tell everyone we're going to the kitchen as well. Not really sure why we had to announce it, but we did.

We enter the kitchen shortly after Yelena does.

I walk over to the fridge, but not because that's where Yelena is standing. Ok, maybe a little bit. But I also do really need some water. And while I'm at it, I'm sure Nat does, too. So I grab us both a bottle.

We stay in silence for a minute as we all take a drink, I practically drink the whole thing. Mostly to ignore this awkwardness.

See! The awkward situations. Who keeps putting me in them?

It's another minute before Yelena and Nat both go to speak up.

"Okay, you.."

"Yelena, we.."

They both stop, Nat letting Yelena go first.

"I don't know what your problem is tonight, but I don't want to hear it," Yelena states, then takes another drink.

I really wonder what is bothering her. There must be something. I know last time we were practically best friends. And that wasn't just because of the alcohol, although it did help.

"Yelena, I don't know where this is coming from. You've been here for maybe half an hour," Nat says incredulously.

Yelena rolls her eyes, "yeah, and I can tell you both are just dying to ask me questions. Questions I don't want to answer. Questions Nat shouldn't even want to ask."

"What does that mean?" But I go unheard.

I guess this is a discussion between the sisters now.

"What are you talking about? We've been playing a drinking game. And even if there were question to ask, why couldn't I know them?" Nat fires back.

Ugh, I really hope I didn't start a fight between them.

"Oh, please, Natasha. You forget we were both raised in the red room?" Yelena challenges.

"Of course I didn't forget. I just don't get why you're getting so offensive right now when you don't even know what we were going to talk about."

She scoffs and then laughs, "oh, come on. You think I'm stupid? Go on. Ask me your questions. Try me."
