《Into the fire》Chapter Five

Wandas POV

It's been another week or two since I first woke up because Bruce and Tony wanted to make sure I was properly healed. And then I had to get use to walking and such for awhile.

But I think I'm finally back to being 100%. Okay maybe like 80%, but I feel like that's good enough to try and track down my blue eyed savior.

Yes, I'm still thinking about her. I wish I could get her out of my head. I wish. Because all I know is that she has blue eyes and might be a fire fighter.

But here I am, still day dreaming about her walking up to me, her blues eyes fixed on my green ones, and sweeping me off my feet, carrying me off into the sunset. Or my room.

Sounds ridiculous, I know. But even Nat has helped encourage me to find her saying, 'if she's on your mind this much, you might want to at least thank her for saving your life' and then she usually winks.

Yes, I opened up to Nat on what happened and she's helped with the nightmares. But usually the dreams with the fire end up with blue eyes holding me so..

Lexi? Oh right. Yeah.. we've texted back and forth a few times and she's asked how I've been. She still wants to go on a date once I'm healed.

And I know I'm saying I'm technically better.. but I will set up a date with her.

Once I find blue eyes.

So that's my mission today: track her down.

Ugh, I know. I sound crazy.

I'm past the the point of caring now.

I wasn't really sure where to start, but Nat suggested I go back to the hospital and see if anyone knew who she was, if she might have stopped by to visit without them knowing.

Then my next step would be fire houses. And since there are so many of those around the city, I'm really hoping I get a lead from the hospital.

I pull into the parking lot at the hospital and take a few breaths, realizing that they may have me committed for even asking what I'm about to ask.

Well, I'm already here. I guess I've already committed and should just go in there. The worst that could happen is they'll tell me they don't know who I'm talking about.

Okay they may not be the worst thing they could say, but..

Nope. I'm getting stuck in my head here.

I just need to go in there.

So I push the car door open and step out, swiftly walking up and through the doors to the hospital so I can't convince myself to turn around.

They actually don't seem too busy at the moment, which I guess works in my favor.

There's a few nurses talking by the desks with some clipboards. If anyone is going to know anything, it's the nurses.

Here we go.

"Um, hello. Excuse me," that brings their attention to me. "I was actually here the other day um, well I was a patient here maybe a month ago?" Oh my gosh. I was here a month ago. They won't remember. Right, already committed.

And they're waiting for me to continue, "and I don't know if you remember, but.."

"Oh, we remember you. You had all the avengers walking in here. They took you out after only a few days or so of being here," a blonde one with green eyes tells me.

She doesn't sound thrilled, but at least she remembers. "Right, okay. Perfect. Um, this is going to seem a little crazy, and I don't know if you would remember this but," yes I'm rambling. This is awkward. "Do you know if I had any visitors besides the avengers?"

They kind of just look at me like I've lost my head and rolled it down an ally.

"Like maybe a fire fighter?"

"You want to know if a fire fighter visited you over a month ago?" A red head asks me. With plenty of sass. I can detect it.

"Um, yes. I was just trying to track down the one that saved me from that house and thank them." Yes, see, this is a great reason for wanting to find them. I internally celebrate for being able to come up with that.

Maybe it should have been obvious, but clearly my head is all over the place right now.

"Ah. Okay. Want to meet your hero?" The red headed guy speaks again.

"I guess?"

"Well a lot of fire fighters and emts come through here with people. Do you have a name or anything else specific?" The blonde.

It's good to know they do come through here on the occasion. So it's possible.

"No name or anything like that just.. she had these blue eyes.."

"Oh. Yup. I know exactly who you're talking about," I'm cut off by a woman with short brown hair who is smirking at me.

The other nurses snicker along with her.

I ignore it, "Fantastic! Do you happen to know where she works or her name or anything?" I ask.

The blonde huffs under her breath, "oh, she knows more than that, alright."

The brunette elbows her as she sends daggers her way.

Then she brings her attention back to me, "I can tell you her fire house. But, I will also warn you; don't waste your time, sweetheart. You're better off chasing someone else."

I'm gathering that this might be an ex of hers, "Oh, I'm not trying to.."

"You are. It's fine, I get it. Those blue eyes had me, too. I'm just telling you not to let yourself get lost in them. There's a whole other person behind those beauties of hers."

I don't know how to take any of this. Maybe I should be more thrown or worried, but I'm only more intrigued.

Not that I planned on going anywhere with this girl, I just.. don't actually know what the plan was. Honestly, I didn't plan anything further than where I am right now.

But I do know for sure now that she's a fire fighter. At least, if we're talking about the same person, which, I believe, we are.

"Okay, duly noted. I just want to thank her," I say a little on the defensive side and I don't know why.

She rolls her eyes at me, "it's your heart you're throwing away."

With the new information on my Ms. Blue Eyes, I'm heading to the fire house Maia told me she works at.

Maia was the nurse/ex.

She wasn't sure what her work schedule was like anymore since they broke up awhile ago, but she said someone here should at least point me in a better direction.

So now I'm parked at this fire house, watching as some fire fighters bustle around the fire truck, cleaning it.

I assume others are inside as well. I don't really know. So I'm not sure if I should approach the ones outside or take my chances that someone is inside.

They decide for me as they start to close the garage door. Some realizing I'm just sitting here in my car so they're staring me down.

And I have to ask myself again what the hell I'm doing.

But, I've already met an ex and made a fool of myself at the hospital. What's a fire house?

It's not just any fire house. It's her fire house.

Right.

Again, let's just rip off the bandaid.

I force myself to get out of the car and walk up to the fire house doors.

Just as I'm second guessing myself, someone makes eye contact with me through the window.

Guess I'm committed now.

I swallow hard once and reach out to pull the door open.

I'm greeted with a rush of cool air and a few stares from some fire fighters that freeze upon my entrance.

None of them are her.

I guess I'll talk first.

"Um, hi. I'm Wanda. I was saved a few weeks ago by a fire fighter that I believe works here and I was hoping I could talk to them and thank them?" I spoke very unsure, bringing it to a question as they continue to just stare at me.

One girl with dark eyes that widen a little as she approaches me speaks up, "I'm Maxine. Max for short. If you know a name or anything, I'd be happy to help."

Right. That's helpful.

"Yeah, uh, she has these incredible blue eyes, I was told her name was.."

"Ah. Blue eyes? You got caught in the ocean too, huh?" She smirks. "Yeah, she's here today. Somewhere. I'm sure we could track her down for you."

"Thank you, I appreciate it," I offer a smile.

It's at this point that all of our heads turn to the sound of laughter coming down the hall.

There's a blonde that's entirely enthralled by the black haired girl who is facing her and away from all of us. Apparently she's hilarious because the blonde doesn't stop laughing.

"Hey, Blue! There's someone here to see you."

The girl with the dark hair finally turns to the rest of us, her smile that would outshine anyone else's eyes but hers on display. Her blues already have me swimming.

I'm frozen at the sight.

"Oh, yeah? Who would that be Maxxy?" She says, keeping the smile and spark in her eye.

"Um.. Wanda?" She gestures over to me as she's unsure.

Blue eyes follows the path until her eyes are locked on mine.

And her entire demeanor shifts.

The happy, carefree person she was a second ago vanishes.

It's replaced by a stone cold stare.

And I'm drowning.
