《Into the fire》Chapter Four

Wandas POV
I am awake once again. I'm not sure if it's a bad thing or a good thing, but I'm awake.
I'm pretty sure I am alive.
So that's awesome.
But I'm not sure what my condition is.
I don't really feel any pain, but that doesn't necessarily mean anything.
Most pain we feel isn't physical.
Plus they could be pumping me full with meds.
Whatever I am laying on is a little scratchy, but overall pretty comfy, I guess. Something I could sleep in.
I can smell how sterile it is.
Feel the chill in the air.
If you had one guess?
Yup, that's what I'm guessing, too.
I want to open my eyes and look around, to see the damage, to know how long I've been out this time.
But I'm almost afraid to; so very unsure of what I'll be met with.
I also know I have to. I unfortunately can't stay asleep forever. That's not what I wanted.
So I let them slowly open to adjust to whatever bright lights the hospital has shinning down on me.
I'm a little surprised when I'm not really met with any. A light glow coming from one corner of my room only gives me enough light to see the figure of someone sitting in the chair beside it.
It's stupid and unrealistic, I know, but there's a part of me that thinks, that hopes, it's the blue eyed woman that saved me.. earlier.
As my eyes focus and I move a little so I can see better, my heart sinks.
It's not the blue eyed woman. Instead it's Natasha.
She's passed out, but I would know that red hair anywhere. And I know when she opens her eyes I'll be met with emerald green ones and not the ocean blue of the ones that saved me.
I don't really know what else to do; this isn't what I expected. I also deduce that it's sometime in the middle of the night.
I must be okay though because there's no doctors rushing in to tell me anything and my team is all missing except Natasha.
I'm sure they would be here if it were anything serious.
Already bored, I attempt to look around my room. I'm only able to make out some outlines of what I think are a few balloons and a teddy bear along with some basic hospital room furniture.
I guess I made enough noise to get Nat to notice I was awake as she starts rustling in her sleep.
A few moments later she's making eye contact with me.
And at the realization, she's up out of her chair and moving over to me.

"Wanda! Thank God. I was so worried." She pulls me into hug. A very tight hug.
"Yeah.. I wasn't really sure how I was going to turn up either. I'm still not really sure," I confess.
"That's because they gave you plenty of meds to numb the pain. But I also know you've been healing really well," she tells me as she pulls the chair closer to my bed.
Healing really well.. does that mean?
"How long have I been out?"
Her eyes soften and I already know I'm not going to like the answer, "it's been a couple of weeks. You were hit pretty hard. Had some pretty bad burns. But luckily you were brought out of that building before it collapsed."
At the mention of being saved, it reminded of those blue eyes. And I can't help but wonder where they might be. I let myself get pulled away with these thoughts.
"Don't worry though, Tony, Bruce and Dr. Cho have taken very good care of you. You're pretty much back to your old self," Nat smiles at me.
I wonder how much of that I missed..
But I guess it explains why I'm not being visited by doctors.
"Am I at the compound?" It would also explain why blue eyes isn't here.
What the hell am I talking about.. she's a fire fighter. She saves people as her job, much like me. And often times you don't know what happens after you pull them out of that building.
So I'm crazy to think she'd come looking for me.
And I'm not even sure why I care so much.
"Yes. You spent a couple of days at the hospital before we moved you here so we could keep a better eye on you. And so we could give you the treatments you really needed."
I nod my head in understanding, not really sure what else to say.
"Everyone else is asleep but they've hardly left the room," she smiles. "They'll be glad to know you're awake.."
"In the morning. This hardly qualifies as a reason to wake them up," I cut her off.
She raises an eyebrow at me but I hold firm.
"Nat, they'll see me in the morning. Everyone needs their rest, like I'm sure you do. There's no way that chair is comfortable."
She moves her neck around almost absentmindedly at the mention of the chair.
"That's not the point. You're awake and you're okay. Everyone will be excited.."
"Tomorrow," I hold firm.
She gives in, "fine. But first thing tomorrow.."
"You can tell them."

"Good. Now, how are you feeling? Do you need anything?"
Once she asks this I realize just how damn thirsty I am. So with an apologetic look I ask, "maybe some water?"
She smiles again as she stands up and starts moving to the door, "absolutely. Anything else while I'm out?"
I shake my head as I say, "no thanks."
"Okay. I'll be right back then," and she was out the door.
I take the opportunity and look down to inspect my body now that it's just me.
I let out a long breath realizing Nat must be right; any really bad inflictions are mostly healed. I'll seemingly only be left with a few minor scars. And I am so grateful for that.
I close my eyes and lean back on the pillow only to be met with the flames reaching out to consume me again.
The panic that explodes in my chest has me sitting bolt upright and taking in large lungfuls of air to calm down.
Natasha just has perfect timing.
"Wanda? Are you okay?" She places the water down on the table next to me and sits back in her chair as she grabs my hand.
"Yeah, yeah. I'm fine. Just.. needed a minute," I try to convince her.
"I know that's utter bullshit. But you can talk to me when you're ready."
I nod my head, "thank you."
And then the curiosity gets the better of me. Because no matter how hard I'm trying, even with the threat of flames reaching for me, my mind still went to the blue eyed woman.
"Um.. actually.. do you know if I had any visitors while I was in the hospital?"
She gives me a questioning look, "yeah.. we all visited you while you were there.. why do you ask?"
Time to try to play this off, "oh.. no reason. Just wondering."
She narrows her eyes at me. Sometimes I forget she's the black widow and there's really no pulling shit on her.
"Mhm. Spill, Maximoff. Who were you expecting to visit you?"
I'm sure there's no getting out of this. I am still hooked up to all of these machines and she could definitely take me.
"No one, really. Not that I actually know. There was just.. okay I'm going to sound crazy here.."
She smirks, "try me."
"Ugh. Fine. The person that rescued me. I was kind of hop.. wondering, if they had stopped by to check up on me."
Her smile only widens, "ooh. Did you get a good look at them? Does Wanda have a little crush on a fire fighter?"
I roll my eyes, "I don't know.. they were wearing a mask. I only saw their eyes. I'm not even sure if they were a fire fighter." I bring my hand up to cover my face.
"Wait.. what do you mean you don't know if they are a fire fighter? Who else would have gone in and saved you?"
"I don't know. That's why it sounds crazy. And I don't even know if I can trust my memory and vision because of all the smoke but.."
"But?"
"But her eyes.."
And the smirk is back, "oh, Wanda. You're in love."
There isn't an eye roll dramatic enough.
"No. The only thing I know about her is that she has blue eyes and might be a fire fighter."
"Love at first sight?" She teases.
"Coming from the black widow?"
"Hey! I told you I met someone," she tries to defend herself.
"Please. For all I know that was just to get me to open up for that.. oh shit. The date with Lexi!"
Natasha laughs, "ah. I see you were actually interested after all? Don't worry, Tony kind of explained the situation. I almost thought maybe that's who you wanted to visit you in the hospital. But apparently you have two love interests."
"I do not have two love interests. I don't even have one. I haven't met Lexi and I don't know who the blue eyed woman is."
Nat shifts in her seat, "well it sounds like you want two love interests," she stops and I go to defend myself again, but she continues. "You can still meet Lexi when you're up to it. And as for this blue eyed mystery girl.. you're sure they were female?"
"What? Yes. Of course." Fairly certain. "Not that I had time to ask, but.."
She puts her hands up, "okay. I'm just asking. It can be hard to tell when they have that giant mask on."
"That's what I'm trying to tell you, they didn't have a fire fighters mask or whatever you call it. Just a small one covering the lower half of their face."
"Mm. Yeah you do sound kind of crazy."
"Hey!"
"But, I'm sure there are ways you can track her down. But tomorrow. It's insanely late and we both need some sleep."
"Fine."
She goes to leave the room but pauses in the doorway, "don't worry, I'm sure your blue eyed beauty is just waiting for you."
I roll my eyes but
The idea brings a smile to my face as I lay back down and let slumber overtake me.
