《Into the fire》Chapter One

Wandas POV
"You little shit."
"Please, it's not my fault you're getting old and can't keep up," Peter calls me out and I'm so stunned I stop moving, giving him the opportunity to effectively beat my score.
"You're such a cheater," I call him out.
"No way! It's also not my fault you can't focus on two things at once!" Peter says as he laughs.
I reach back with my hand and secretly pull a pillow over to me, "are you sure?" Then I throw the pillow at him.
"Hey!" He uses his webs to get his own pillow and soon enough we're throwing just about anything we can get ahold of. That won't break any bones, anyway.
Which is quite a bit considering our abilities.
"Hey! What the hell are you two doing?" Tony's voice brings our shenanigans to a halt.
"Um.."
"She started it!" Peter says as he points at me.
I am once again stunned by the nerve of this kid today.
"See if I ever play video games with you again!" I whisper shout.
"Please. If you don't play video games again it's because you can't stand losing!" He sticks his tongue out and moves towards the door.
"Why, you little.." I go to throw another.. pillow, at him.
"Okay, really?" Tony, again, stops the fun.
I stop my motion and drop my smile.
Peter is laughing as he leaves the room.
He's so lucky he's Tony's favorite.
I also go to leave the room to find something else to do, but I'm stopped by Tony. Again.
"Actually, Wanda. I was hoping I could talk to you."
Great. "Okay? What's up Tony?" I say very disinterested.
"We actually have a meeting. You need to be there."
"Okay.. when?"
"Right about.." he looks at his watch. "Now." He looks back up to me with a smile.
"Fine."
"Come on, I'll walk with you," he says, turning for the door.
"So, how are things going, Wanda?"
I don't respond right away because I'm not sure where he's going with this. We don't exactly talk about.. anything.
"I'm doing okay. How are you?" I feel like I should ask.
"I'm good. Very good, actually. Pepper and I are doing well, Morgan is growing up fast."
I nod my head as he talks, "that's good. I feel like I haven't seen Morgan in awhile."

"Yeah, she's been asking to come visit everyone. I've been meaning to bring her along but we've had a lot of missions lately."
"Yeah, that makes sense. It would be cool if she could visit when we have a chance." I'm going along with this.. but I'm not sure what his goal is here. Because there definitely is one.
"Yeah, I'll be sure to bring her by."
Then there's some silence. I don't really know what to say.
I'm good with just walking in silence.
"So.."
I knew there had to be more.
"Yes?" Might as well get it out of the way.
"Okay, don't be too mad, but Pepper has someone that she thinks would be perfect for you. They're super sweet and I think you should give them a chance."
Cue I roll.
"Tony, I don't think that's a good idea."
"What? Why not? Come on, it'd be good for you to go out. At least on one date."
"I don't know.."
"You never know! They could be THE one."
I'm still not sure if I want to do this. Going out on a blind date..
"Hey," Tony stops us mid walk, putting a hand on my shoulder. "I know things haven't been easy for you lately. I know you hang out with the team and we love spending time with you. I just want you to be able to meet other people. It might help."
I have to sigh. I guess it wouldn't be so bad to meet someone outside of these crazies. "Fine. I guess going on one date wouldn't be a bad thing."
He offers a genuine smile, "awesome. I can tell Pepper and have her get in touch with her.. name is Lexi, I think. And then I'll have Pepper let you know?"
"Yeah, that sounds fine. Just let me know," there is no excitement in my voice. I'm not excited about it. But I guess it could be fun?
"Perfect. I have a good feeling about this. Pepper says she's a great girl." And we continue walking.
"Can't wait. I'm sure it'll be fun." I don't really feel like it's going to be.
Thankfully we were at the meeting room already so I didn't have to try to come up with anything else to talk about.
Tony opened the door for me and I walked through to be greeted by everyone else already seated.

I quickly take a seat next to Natasha.
Nat leans over to me, "Did Tony tell you about Lexi?"
"Oh no. You're in on this, too?" I roll my eyes.
"Oh, please. Look, I've met her. She is super nice. Good head on her shoulders. Please tell me you're at least going to give it a try?"
"Yes. I told Tony I would try one date. But that's all I'm promising."
"Yes! You need this, it'll be good to get out. Plus, it's been forever since you've been laid."
"Hey! It hasn't been that long.." it kind of has.
She just gives me the look, "Really?"
"Whatever. I'm going on a date. That's all. I'm not really expecting much out of it."
"Well, that's not how you want to go into it. It could be a lot of fun! You never know. At least keep an open mind, you may be surprised." She shrugs, "besides, maybe it's at least a free dinner, right?" She smiles at the end and I join her.
"Yeah, I guess so. I'm still not holding my breath, but I'll give her a fair chance."
"That's all I'm asking."
"Okay, if you two ladies are done with your little gossip corner, we have actual business to take care of," Tony stops our talk and brings us back to the meeting.
I raise my hands in surrender, "the floor is all yours, Tony."
"Thank you," he smiles and then starts rambling on about lasts weekend missions, how they went, who worked well, what we need to work on..
Blah, blah, blah...
I let myself zone out as he goes through his little speech, even going as far as to imagine the date I have with this Lexi person going well.
It's a future I would like, but I gave up on it happening. Going out to bars and getting set up on blind dates lost it's luster for me a long time ago.
I could be convinced that there's no one really worth meeting anymore.
But I realize Tony and Nat are right. If I'm not going to be open to something happening, then nothing will.
So, it's decided.
From here on out, I'll be open to the possibility of meeting the right person.
But I'm still not holding my breath.
"Wanda, is that alright with you?" Tony once again bringing me out of my thoughts.
I kind of feel bad that I have no idea what he's talking about. Guess I actually should have been paying attention.
Oops.
"Um.." I don't even know what to say.
"You have no idea what I'm talking about, do you?" Tony asks raising his eyebrows at me.
And now everyone is looking at me.
Nat is smirking.
"No.. sorry."
He sighs, but goes on to tell me that I have a solo mission I have to go on in a couple of days.
Something about a lead they have and they want me to go in and intercept the information, hopefully stop the bad guys if possible.
Should be an easy mission. With the magic powers and all.
But that doesn't always make them easy.
Okay, it does help.
A solo mission won't be bad, I guess. Haven't been on one in awhile and it'll be good to get my bearings on my own again.
It looks like Tony has finished up with the meeting because everyone is standing up and grabbing their files from Tony for their own missions.
I wait for everyone else before going up to grab mine.
"Are you free, Friday?" Tony asks as he hands me the folder.
"Uh, I guess?" Why?
"Great. Lexi wants to take you out. Is it okay if I give her your number so she can set up details with you?" He is a little too excited about this.
"Yeah, that's fine." At least it'll be Friday. Won't have to wait too long to get this over with.
Ah. I know. That's not a very open minded thought. Sorry.
"Perfect. Expect a text soon!"
"Got it," I turn around to go walk out of the room but see Nat waiting by the door.
"Hey, Wands. You seemed a bit distracted during the meeting. What were you thinking about?"
"Nothing important. Just zoned out." I try to brush it off.
"She turns so she's walking in front of me but still facing me. With a smirk she says, "are you sure you weren't day dreaming about Lexi?"
I just roll my eyes.

Good Guy Necromancer
Necromancers are murderous, repulsive, utterly ungodly creatures. And then there's Jerry. Jerry is a novice necromancer who treats his undead warmly, seeks to befriend people instead of harvest their bodies, and doesn't mind cracking a skull or two when needed. He genuinely is a good guy—too bad nobody believes him. Jerry tries to settle down, wanting nothing but a peaceful life for him and his undead—and, when that doesn't quite work out, he sets out to adventure. He will make friends, each unique in their own way, and together, they will travel through a variety of striking environments; from a tiny village, to the land of the dead, to a jolly archipelago, to a kingdom on a beanstalk. To save a world that shuns him, Jerry must stand against a large organization of arrogant, mighty wizards. He strives to become stronger while maintaining his kindness, only to realize that, maybe, gentle hearts make the greatest necromancers. This is the story of a delightful man in a harsh world—full of warmth, action, and wise-cracking bone puns. Chapters are usually 2-3k words, and updates are 3/week: Mon, Wed, Fri. If you're looking for another fun, action-packed adventure, check out Cultivator vs. System by yours truly, available on Kindle, KU, and Audible. But read Good Guy Necromancer first.

Luck And Chronomancy
Time Magic is the best magic as everyone knows, although there are lots of unique Talents in the world. Most people only remember Haste because it is hard to get to higher Phases of Chronomancy. That is still enough to make the Talent iconic. A lucky enough Aleatory Talent can position you for greatness or leave you languishing in obscurity. The only true equality in the world is when that glowing message pops up at 8 years old. Even if it doesn't activate until you are an adult at 16 you still know. Sure you can find a new dungeon spawn and get another chance at a rare Talent, even this one, but you have to already be ready to delve into the *Far Wilds*, which is far easier with wealth or family power. This is the story of where my good fortune took me and the difference it made, even among a party of 7 others including an Arcanist. It is a journey of magic and monsters but also math, which some think is actually worse. Luckily I was born with Intelligence and Focus as my personal traits, and my parents were scholars. Of course Chronomancy can also be a frontline combat talent. Versitility well beyond other Elder Talents like Gravity, Abstraction, or Arcana. Might could have worked for me, too. I also met a runaway princess. All the best adventures have a princess. She hated being a noble and we didn't get married but it still counts. Besides she really filled out our front line. All that Leadership training came in handy. I still don't know where she's from. Who cares? How well Haste goes with giant hammers is what's important. I never learned much about anyone in the party, except the one I grew up with. I'm not a people person. I just wanted to optimize dungeon clearing time. *******Story Details******* No romance, politics, or traumatizing content, slice of life, or even dialogue. 1st person narration, like a guide/adventure log. 2000-7000 words a day, maybe 40-60% rpgish combat log with some reasoning on combat decisions, with the rest character Talent discussion and progression stuff. 8 person party with a decent variety in roles. Party members usually have 2 primary functions. Told from the support/control Chronomancer's perspective. Each party member will have 6 Basic/Background Traits, then 3 actual Talents with abilities. Capstone from their Educational Institution, Arbritrary as a gift from the temples, and Aleatory which is decided at birth, revealed at 8, and activated after adulthood at 16. Aleatory Traits ignore requirements and are random why is why they are so important. They'll gain new Talents from finding Dungeons to consume in the *Wilds*. Mature dungeons in cities can provide *Challenges* to raise the Phase of a Talent, up to 3 times from 1 to 4. Each character will get to roughly 8 non-Trait Talents. Attributes come exclusive from Talents, are required by Talents, and provide various effects as well. I designed about 220 Talents with abilities, 4 in each of 4 phases. "Traits" are just Attribute stuff. I'm not sure how many will be detailed in the story, more than 100 for sure. I used Talents because I want to be free of the legacy of tabletop. Half those rules are just because of the limitations inherent in a pre-computer ttrpg. This story mostly uses combat Talents, although like 1/3 of the 220 are for crafting and other society and economy stuff. If you really wanted to be a Thief you might take Intuition, Awarness, and Might for Basic Traits and Deftness, Manipulation, and Trickery for Family/Education. Then you'd pick Acrobatics, and Climbing for Educational Capstone and Arbitrary traits. You Aleatory Trait might be Shadow(Light/Dark) Magic, Umbramancy. A Bard might swap Dexterity for Charisma, Music for Acrobatics, and have gotten Illusion(Shadow/Sound(Air/Force)) for their Aleatory Trait.
