《Golden | H.S.》Chapter 1

This book is for all who have yet to realize their advantage.
A/N: HELLO!!!
I'm a new writer to Wattpad but I have been writing for a while in my personal life, so I wanted to mix two of my favorite things, writing and Harry!
The idea for this book came to me at the beginning of the year in a dream (I'm so serious lol) and I decided to finally run with the idea bc I really think a beautiful story can come from it.
Please leave as many comments, votes, etc. as you'd like because I would truly appreciate any feedback!
The book begins in February 2020, at the BRIT Awards, when H performed "Falling". Not every single detail will line up with the exact timeline of H's life. For example, in this book, the BRITs is set in Los Angeles, as is the rest of the book unless I mention that they're gonna travel. The POV is Delilah's unless I specify otherwise!
There will be some holes in time. Like I'm not going to write about every single day because it's just going to unnecessarily drag out the book and that is not what I want lol. So if they meet in February and at some point, it's already April, just roll with it, it's intentional!
Also, I want to mention that this book does not contain mature sexual content.
I know, "boooooo!" lol.
That being said, there will be some slight saucy stuff (come through, alliteration!) but if you want a book with a bunch of smut from beginning to end, this isn't the book for you :(. However, I would appreciate if you gave this a chance because I am very excited about it and I promise I'm going to try my hardest to make it worth your while.
Lastly, I will be including song suggestions at the beginning of each chapter. Not every single song will relate to the chapter, it's more so just that I love music and want to share it with you guys!
Okay, rant over, please enjoy!

"I'm fallin' again. I'm fallin'."
The lights faded out as he sang the last note. Harry Styles performing Falling live was always something I'd wanted to experience, even more so now that I'm Jeff's assistant. This was the first time I was in the same room as Harry and his performance was amazing.
The night had just begun and as the lights went back on and the stage cleared, I stayed in my seat, fidgeting with the fabric of my dress, waiting for Jeff to come back. I tried not to be so tense, but ever since he told me I'd be coming with him to the BRITs, I couldn't calm my nerves.
I'd been sitting at our table alone for half an hour now and my anxiety only worsened by the minute. He promised me he wouldn't leave me alone for too long, especially considering it was my first time at an award show.
Another 20 minutes of me waiting for Jeff went by until I decided to get up and walk around to look for him. I walked for a bit until I came across a door in the back. I pushed the door open, softly singing the song I'd just heard as I walked through.

The room was empty from what I could see, aside from a few boxes stacked against the wall. I walked further into the room and shut the door behind me, my singing more audible now. It's quiet in the dim-lit room, aside from some light piano playing I assumed was coming from outside.
"So, you like the song, then?" I jumped at the unfamiliar voice, clutching my chest and turned to see who the voice belonged to. Harry Styles was sat at a piano at the far left of the room, now wearing the bright yellow outfit he'd had on before he performed. His lips were turned into a smile at my reaction and all I could do was stare with my lips parted.
"I-I'm sorry. I didn't know anyone else was in here." His eyes stay on me as I answer.
"That's alright." He gives a dimpled smile, "I was just hiding out in here for a bit before I have to go back out there." He stands up and extends his hand out towards me. "I'm Harry. You are?"
He's a lot taller than I thought and I forget how to speak for a moment. "Uh-um, Delilah. My name's Delilah. Quinn." I walk closer and shake his hand in return.
His smile never falters, and he tilts his head, "Delilah Quinn? That's a beautiful name."
I stay planted in my spot as our hands separate and I mumble the first thing I can think of, "If you like that, you should hear my phone number."
I shut my eyes and mentally facepalm as my face heats up. Why did I have to watch those re-runs of Friends last night?
But Harry just laughs loudly and says, "That's a good one, I love that episode." His reaction calms my nerves and I let out a breath. "So, Delilah Quinn." He eyes me playfully as he leans forward on the piano. "What was that song you were just singing?"
My mind was running on overdrive and all I could think about was, wow, his eyes are so green, and are his lips really that pink? His eyes darted down my figure as he waited for my answer and I felt a small surge of confidence run through me at that.
"I'm not sure you'd know it, the artist isn't too well-known." I teased with a smile as I stepped even closer.
"That's a shame, it sounded really good. Very promising." He gives a breathy laugh. "You sounded great singing it, though." His voice turns serious and my smile slightly drops.
"Oh. Um, that was nothing. Just messing around." I laughed half-heartedly. "Your performance was amazing." I changed the subject.
He noticed. "Thank you." He shakes his head and shrugs. "I wasn't in the right headspace tonight so I'm not too proud of it."
"Well, take my word for it." I rush the words out. "I never lie. And I'm telling you it was amazing. Really."
He slightly squints his eyes at me with a small smile. "You never lie? Really?" I nod once at him. "Well, Delilah Quinn. Would you mind hearing me play something and not lying to me about what you think of it?"

I gave a hesitant nod and he gestured for me to sit next to him on the piano bench. "Alright," he flexes his fingers as I plant myself next to him. "It's still in the beginning stages so...be kind." He sounds nervous all of a sudden. It doesn't sound right. Someone like him has nothing to be nervous about. Not when he looks like that and sounds like that and smells like that, God, why does he smell so good?
"I'm sure it'll be great." I assure him.
He starts playing and just as I thought, it's amazing. Of course, it's amazing. Is there anything he can't do?
Another minute of him playing goes by, and then he stops before slowly turning to me. Our faces are close and when did my knees end up touching his?
"So?" He speaks and I feel his warm breath on my lips. "What'd you think?" He glances down at my glossed lips before landing back on my eyes.
"It-It was great." I breathed out. "Better than great, it was prodigious."
"Prodigious? What does that mean?" He asks.
"Oh, sorry. Um, it means remarkably great. I have this thing where I like to learn a new word everyday. But yeah, it was prodigious. Really great."
"And you never lie, right?" He smiles with raised eyebrows.
I nod in return, "Never, ever."
"Well, thank you. I don't know, I don't like it too much. I still have to work out certain kinks." He says bashfully.
Not those kinds of kinks, Delilah.
"Well, um." I shake my head to rid those thoughts. "No great artist ever sees things as they really are. If he did, he would cease to be an artist."
His eyes widen slightly, and his head leans back. He looks at me, impressed. "Did you just quote Oscar Wilde to me?"
I smile widely at his response. He knows Wilde? Help me, Lord. "I did."
"Ironic, isn't it? You're quoting something called The Decay of Lying just minutes after telling me you never lie. Something's not right here, Delilah." He tuts.
Being playful with him is so easy, it seems natural almost. "Oh, how dare I?" I exclaim dramatically.
We continue to talk, and time seems frozen as we talk about our favorite Wilde quotes and our favorite bands and our favorite songs. He brings up Fleetwood Mac and I bring up Queen and the room is filled with C'mon, Harry, Queen is way better than Fleetwood Mac and How dare you! Fleetwood Mac is the most iconic band in history.
Our voices echo throughout the room, never running out of things to talk about. I tell him about my strange love for handwritten letters and how they're so much more meaningful than something like a text.
After our conversation about whether Dreams or The Chain is the better song dies down, Harry lightly chuckles before asking, "So, what were you doing in this room, anyway?" He's playing the piano again, the sounds from the keys as a backing track to our conversation. "Before you so rudely interrupted my playing." He leans his face closer with a teasing smile.
"Oh! I was actually looking for Jeff." I glance at the time on my phone. We'd been in here almost an hour? "Oh my God, I have to go. He's probably wondering where I am." I stand up hurriedly when Harry speaks again.
"Jeff? Jeff Azoff?" Harry questions. I realize that Jeff never told Harry he has a new assistant.
"Yeah, I'm his new assistant. Just started a couple days ago, actually." Harry's eyes widen slightly.
"Oh, he told me he hired someone new but he never told me who he decided on. Funnily, enough I was supposed to meet them tonight." He says.
"Well, you've met her," I laugh. "What do you think? Did he make the right decision?" I put my hands on my hips and give a little twirl before facing him again.
He gives a small smile and his eyes never waver from mine. "I'd say so. I'd definitely say so."
Oh.
I feel my cheeks heat as I laugh it off and say, "Well, thank you. I should go now before Jeff fires me on my first official day." I jut my hand out towards him, the way he did earlier. "It was really nice to meet you, Harry. I'm sure I'll be seeing you again."
He ignores my hand, and with his eyes still on mine, takes a step closer to me, where our chests are touching. He leans in and I hear my breath catch as he turns his head to plant a soft kiss on my cheek. His lips stay for longer than I expected, and my hand finds home on his arm.
He pulls back as I let out the breath I didn't realize I was holding, the spot on my cheek burning where his lips were. He smiles down softly at me. "I'll definitely be seeing more of you, Delilah. I'd be doing myself a dishonor if I stayed away from you."
He whisks past me and stops right in front of the door I'd been lucky enough to walk through an hour prior.
He turns to me one more time and looks in my eyes, "You look absolutely stunning, by the way." And with that, he walks out of the door.
I stand still in my spot for what feels like forever, replaying the night in my head, before I turn to walk out that same door.
