《Without Jaxton (Loving Jaxton Book #2)》together? - chapter 11

It's Friday afternoon and Izzy is supposed to be coming over for a big sleepover with Maddie, but I know Evan is bringing her and that's not sitting right with me. I know Evan and I never were a thing, but now that I'm seeing Jax again, I just feel like it's a big mess I wasn't prepared for and still aren't prepared for.

Jax has been really great, honestly he's been wonderful for the past few days and I can confidently say that I'm falling back in love with him. Just over those days and I'm already feeling all the things I used to. I loved Jax, and I still love him, I'm just trying to love him without getting hurt, and that's hard.

"You okay?" He asks from the kitchen where I'm frosting cupcakes for the girls. Maddie is upstairs getting her room ready, with all the toys she has, and I know she's excited.

"Yeah. I just promised I'd make cupcakes." I tell him as he nods. He laughs as he looks at the bright blue icing with white swirls in it, I'm proud of how they turned out.

"To Izzy?" He asks as I stare back at him and nod. "And Evan." I add as he glares at me. He crosses his arms across his chest and his eyes are almost covered with his hat while he sits there calmly.

"So he's bringing her?" He asks as I nod slightly. He is, he was going to stay and have dinner with me before I kind of told him I couldn't date him. And he has no idea that Jax is even here, or that I'm trying to fix my relationship with him.

"And you didn't think that's be something I would like to know?" He asks as I glare at him.

"Nope. He's Izzy's father, that's it." I tell him back as he laughs. "Ry don't fuck with me, you went on a date with him." He spits out as I sigh.

"Fine. What do you want to know so bad?" I ask as he laughs. "Well, he's obviously not me, but amuse me anyway about this date." He tells me as I throw the kitchen towel at his face.

"He's so sweet, kind, charming, and everything I would possibly want in a man. He's driven, motivated, handsome, he'd be perfect honestly." I tell Jax right to his face as it pales. He goes to start but doesn't when I look up into his eyes.

"But, although he has all of that, he doesn't make me feel anything besides happy. I don't get that gut fulfilling happiness, he's not the father to my kids or the man I married, and he doesn't make me feel butterflies. When you know you know, and I just know he wasn't it for me, not after our first date. He did everything right, and he's going to make some woman so happy, but that woman wasn't me." I tell Jax as his face morphs into a big smile.

"Good." He tells me as I smile back. "Trust me a little?" I ask as he nods and reaches for me across the countertop. I move over to the barstool and he leans down and kisses me softly on the lips before rubbing my butt in his palms making me laugh.

"S-T-O-PP...." I tell him laughing as he kisses the side of my neck. "Now baby why would I do that?" He asks rubbing my back as I laugh harder and kiss his cheek. I see the boys over his shoulder watching us as I pull away immediately.

"Old rules." I instantly tell him as he sighs and rolls his eyes. We had old rules, we promised we'd keep sexual jokes and touching each other for the bedroom. We'd only hold hands or softly kiss and hug in front of Maddie, even as a baby. We just didn't want them to see all that and I still don't want them too.

"Good idea, we'll finish that tonight before I go." He winks as I flick him off on the side of my face before the boys come in to aggravate him. I smile when they wrestle in the floor for a few minutes before going outside. He's taking them tonight, they're having a big day tomorrow. Jax is taking them to a professional football game, and is taking them to meet the players and I know they'll love it. That also gives me an excuse to take the girls for their toes and fingernails to be painted and then to ice cream.

With Jax outside with the kids I finally have the time to finish the cupcakes and a minute after I'm done the front doorbell rings. "IZZY!!" I hear Maddie yell from upstairs.

"Maddie don't you dare open the front door or you're grounded!" I yell back. She'll open the door for anyone, and I'm trying my best to teach her that everyone she meets is not her friend. So if she touches the doorknob she knows she's going to get grounded.

I clean my hands and walk to the front door to see her patiently waiting beside it with her hands behind her back. "You know you can't open this door for anyone. Not unless you look out of the blinds in the office and see that it's daddy, me or grandma and grandpa." I tell her as she nods.

"Good." I whisper as I lean down and kiss her forehead before taking her hands off her back. I look out the peephole to see Evan and move to the office and check the blinds as well before opening the door for Evan and a small little Izzy beside him.

"IZZY!" and "MADDIE!" are yelled by both the girls at the same time as Izzy gives her dad a big hug and tells him that she loves him, runs in and gives me a hug before she's sprinting off upstairs with Maddie.

"Hi" I whisper turning around to see Evan there holding Izzy's bag in his hands. He's in his suit with the tie undone and his shirt buttons pulled apart.

"Hey." He whispers back running his hand through his hair. "Rough day?" I ask as he laughs. "You have no idea. Anyway, here's her stuff. Do you need anything for them? Are you sure this is okay?" He asks as I smile.

"Perfectly okay! Jax is taking the boys this weekend so it'll be me and the girls. I'm going to take them for manicures and pedicures and ice cream tomorrow. I made cupcakes for them tonight though, I kept my promise, and I ordered pizza." I tell him as he smiles.

"Good. I know she'll be okay with you. Sometimes she takes melatonin to sleep when she's had lots of sugar but other than that she's good." He tells me as I nod.

"I guess I'll see you tomorrow afternoon then?" He asks as I nod. He goes to walk away when I start, "hey" I yell as he turns around.

"Evan, thank you so much. From the bottom of my heart Evan, thank you. You're amazing." I tell him as he blushes.

"Trust me you are too. Don't let that dick break your heart again. Bye RJ." He tells me as he motions to behind me to see Jax walking through the patio doors of the house with the boys, staring directly at us. The patio lines up with the front door and I had no idea he was looking at Evan.

"Bye." I whisper back as I let what he just said settle with me as I look back behind me to see Jax. He's standing there quietly but I know he wants to say something.

I close the front door and walk back into the kitchen as he follows me. "What was that about?" He asks coming to me as I look for the boys.

"Both are peeing, answer my question." He tells me as I immediately turn. I like a finger in his chest before I start, "You asswipe. Don't demand shit from me, you want me back you treat me like a damn queen. Understood?" I ask as his face pales and he nods.

"He told me not to let 'that dick break my heart again'" I tell him as he rolls his eyes and clinches his fists together.

"He's the fucking dick that wanted my wife. Fuck him, he has some fucking nerve." Jax starts as I instantly cut him off, "No. You're acting like a complete asshole over nothing. I think he just wants me to watch out or something but I don't have to worry about that do I?" I ask as he clinches his jaw.

"You know you don't." He answers as I nod.

"Then build a bridge and get over it. Don't be an asshole Jax." I rant out as he sighs and then nods.

"If he ever says shit to you again, I mean that..." he trails off as I laugh. "You'll do what?" I ask as he smiles.

"Fuck you until you never have to worry about listening to that again." He whispers as I smile and he kisses my cheek.

"Now be good. Go take the boys so I can put on a movie for the girls." I tell him as he smiles and rubs my hip in his hand. He pulls away after kissing my cheek and then walks off leaving me again.

Not before he whistles at my ass and leaves me to go through my plan tonight with the girls. And they have a ball, the best night ever, and I'm happy.

Really happy for once.
