《As Long As I Live》Tame Your Temper

Aamir looked at Mayra's face as she slept peacefully and plugged in the headphones to his laptop. He couldn't possibly disturb her sleep. He quickly pushed the earpieces into his ears and clicked the link which his friend had sent him via email.
A new page opened with a video that started to play automatically. A man, nearly Aamir's age, wearing a pink shirt and baby blue tie under a grey blazer and ridiculous-looking square spectacles on his weirdly large nose appeared on the screen. Aamir stared at the screen stunned and the man began to speak with one finger pointing at the camera, which Aamir creepily felt was pointing directly at him.
"Do you get angry over the smallest of things? Do you wish to throw your cup of coffee at the coffee machine when your coffee isn't tasty? Do you want to kill the motorcycle rider who overtakes your car? Do you feel that the world is designed in a way to test your patience?
If the answer to any of these questions is yes, then my friend, you need Anger Management! (The man started smiling widely now and flailing his arms about as he spoke) And who better to help you in this, than me! Join me, Gaurav Singh, as I "Tame Your Temper"!
Click below to book an appointment! See you at my office!"
The man winked at the screen and the video ended. Aamir stared at it for five seconds straight before lunging for his phone. Scrolling through his contacts he found the number he was looking for and called him. His friend answered at the second ring.
"Hey Aamir -"
"What the hell, Kunal? Are you serious? I said I wanted a good psychologist and you send me the link of this joker?"
"Why? What happened?"
"Tame Your Temper!" Aamir whispered furiously, glancing at Mayra to see if she was getting disturbed. "Are you kidding me Kunal? This man is wearing a baby pink shirt with a baby blue tie and a grey blazer, and he says that he can tame my temper! Seriously?"
"Dude, trust me, that guy is the best in this business," replied Kunal.
"This joker -"
"Yes! That joker!" Kunal said, impatiently. "My cousin has a teenage son, and that guy was losing it completely. He was such a messed up teen dude, he was getting into drugs! And my cousin took him to this guy and trust me when I tell you this, that guy - what's his name - Girish - "
"Gaurav"

"Ya, Gaurav. That guy works magic. My cousin's son has completely changed man! He's such a nice kid now. Trust me that guy is amazing."
"You sure?" Aamir asked, still sceptical.
"Of course man. I know how badly you wanted this. Do you think I would joke with you over such a serious matter? Trust me Aamir, go to him. If he can help you in any way, then it'll be worth it man."
Aamir sighed and whispered, "Yeah, you're right."
"By the way, why are you whispering?"
Aamir smiled as he gazed at his beautiful wife, "Mayra's sleeping."
"Oh. Give her my best man. Hope she gets well soon."
"Thanks bro. Bye."
"Bye."
Aamir didn't need to tame his temper. He needed to tame the beast within him, he thought as he recalled all the moments when the monster within him had tried to resurface in the past few days despite Aamir's best efforts to keep himself under control. This kind of anger problem was surely not normal. And obviously such an issue would require more than a crazy psychologist to resolve. It required a miracle.
Mayra shifted suddenly in her sleep and moaned softly. "No.. please."
Aamir shot up from his bed and quickly moved to Mayra's side. He kissed her forehead and stroked her cheek as he whispered in her ear. "Sshh. It's okay."
Immediately, Mayra seemed to have relaxed in his arms. Her breathing went back to normal as she slipped back into slumber. Yet Aamir remained at her side, smiling down at her. What bigger miracle could he be given than Mayra herself? What bigger miracle could he possibly need than the second chance he had been given with her?
For Mayra, he would do anything.
He had already started to reign in his anger. He had faced the most challenging situations of his entire life in the past two months and he had managed to keep himself under control. But he had come very close to losing it multiple times. Of that he was afraid. He couldn't afford to lose it in front of Mayra. If he wanted her to come out of her shell then she needed her to believe that he would never hurt her, never be angry with her, no matter the circumstances. He had to do it.
His mind started to replay all the moments since Mayra's awakening that he had come close to losing his cool.
Three days earlier, Mayra had been resting while he was reading a few contract papers, the door of her suite opened to reveal the police officer and her doctor. Both of them glared at Aamir and asked him to leave as they wanted to speak to Mayra alone. Mayra looked scared. She didn't want to be in the same room with strangers who insisted upon talking about the things she was trying hard to forget. Aamir was hesitant to leave and sensing it the officer asked, very rudely, for him to 'get out'. He would have landed himself in jail if he hadn't stopped himself from punching the police officer. For Mayra's sake, he left quietly, after reassuring her that he would be right outside the door and would come right in if she called for him.

He stood outside waiting for the session to end when he saw the truck driver approach. His nose was bandaged and Aamir remembered that he was responsible for that broken bone. The tiny man's eyes widened when he saw Aamir and quickly explained, "Officer asked me to come, I swear!"
He too walked in as Aamir waited outside. Fifteen minutes later they all walked out, the doctor and officer looking frustrated, while the driver looked oddly relieved. The Officer spared Aamir a glance as he said in a tight voice, "she insists you never hurt her, and she says that she wasn't going to commit suicide either. There is no reason to carry this case forward. We're closing it."
Aamir let out a sigh of relief as the trio walked away and then he hurried inside to watch Mayra wipe her tears, trying to hide the fact that she was crying.
"Darling, why are you crying? Did they say something to you?"
She shook her head. Aamir wanted her to tell him what they had said, but he knew that he would have to learn to give her space so that she would talk to him freely whenever she needed to.
"It's ok. You can tell me about it whenever you're ready. There's no rush." Mayra looked at him surprised, and then quickly looked away.
The second time had been two days earlier when Aamir had walked into his lawyer's office furious with the man whose mistake had triggered everything. The secretary stood abruptly as she caught sight of her boss's illustrious client and tried to stop him when Aamir banged the doors open and entered the man's cabin unannounced.
The lawyer calmly looked from Aamir's furious face to his secretary's scared one and motioned for her to leave.
"What the hell did you do, Zaheer?" Aamir growled at his friend.
"I'm truly sorry Aamir. Please realize that it was a mistake. When you asked me to prepare the divorce papers seven months back, I did, but then you had that accident and you became paralyzed. I had kept the papers safely in my cabinet and later all your business agreements and property acquisition papers were in there too. When I heard that you were back from America, all well again, I asked my assistant to send all those papers home for your perusal. That idiot saw the divorce papers, jumped to conclusions and went and handed them to Mayra himself. He told me all the crap he told her about the alimony. I fired him on the spot."
"Good!" Snapped Aamir and walked before he punched the wall and stopped himself from hunting down that moron of an assistant to punch him instead.
The third time was when he had returned from the lawyer's office to the hospital to find Mayra looking absolutely hysterical, crying and shaking as she stared at the angry nurse.
"What happened, baby?" Aamir asked her as he rushed to her bed and gently wiped her tears.
"She dropped the glass and it broke!" Retorted the nurse as she picked up the glass pieces strewn on the floor. "Clumsy woman, couldn't you just call me if you needed water!"
Mayra sobbed as she looked at Aamir, and tried desperately to explain before he grew angry with her, "it.. it was an accident! I th.. thought I could reach the glass. I knocked it over, accidentally, please.." She whimpered and flinched when Aamir raised his hand to wipe her cheek, "please believe me! I didn't do it on purpose!"
She waited for Aamir to hit her but she was stunned when Aamir took the new glass the nurse had replaced at Mayra's side table and purposely dropped it onto the floor, shattering it.
Mayra and the nurse looked at Aamir shocked and he glared at the nurse, "go get a new glass. I'm paying for Mayra's expenses so don't you dare think you can speak to her like that. One more time, and I'll have you jobless in a second. Get that?"
"Yes sir!" The nurse squeaked and left the room as quickly as possible. Mayra was astonished.
Aamir laughed as he recalled Mayra's shocked face. Yes, for this incredible woman, he would do anything. Even to the extent of visiting a crazy psychologist.
He walked to his bed and pulled his laptop towards him. With a glance at Mayra he whispered, "I love you, Princess"and clicked under the video where it said Sign Up Now.
