《Leather Jacket Girl (girlxgirl)》Chapter Forty-Five

A few minutes after spending lunch time with the girls, it came time for us to all head to our math class. If there was one thing that I knew for sure, though, it was that I really didn't want to have to do a test. Fortunately, when we arrived at our math class, I found that our teacher was absent. I figured that they must have been sick or something along those lines which ultimately sucked. I hope that they were alright but I was also rather relieved that I didn't have to spend long minutes doing algebra that I didn't really understand. I was going to have to get Courtney to help me. I knew that she would have no problems with that. I could always depend on her for many things and the academic side of things was part of that. I truly did adore the fact that she was always there for me.

Courtney had shown me kindness that I had never really expected from her. When I had first met her, she could be slightly unpredictable and a little intimidating at times, but after a while the two of us had started to get along a lot better. My relationship with Courtney showed me how a little bit of kindness could go a long way.

While I worked, the sun beamed in through the classroom window, which made me wish that I was outside rather than inside doing calculus. However, I knew that it wouldn't be long before the lesson ended and then Courtney and I would be able to spend some time outside together.

It wasn't too long after I had begun my worksheet of math questions that the bell rang out and it came time for us to all leave the classroom.

Once the lesson was over, I made my way towards the cafeteria so that I could buy some snacks for my friends.

Most of them seemed to be busy, though, as the only one that I could see sat down in the cafeteria was Elijah.

I wandered over to him with the cookies that I had purchased and handed him one.

"Amazing! Now, can you tell me what's going on with you? You know that you can trust me with anything," Elijah said.

"I know. Courtney and I are together now," I told him.

Elijah's eyes widened in surprise at first bit then he smiled.

"I'm happy for you, Phoebs," he told me.

"Thank you, Eli. So am I," I said, as my thoughts went to Courtney, for a moment. I wondered what she was up to. I hoped that I would see her again soon. I knew that it hadn't been long since I had last seen her but I was already looking forward to the next time that I would.

I knew that I could trust Elijah with this information because he had been one of my best friends for a while now.

"How serious is it?" Elijah asked me.

"Well, we kissed," I said.

His eyes widened at that statement.

"That's amazing! I always thought you liked Emmy, though," he whispered.

"Was it really that obvious?" I asked him.

"Sort of!" he replied.

Of course, I would always love Emmy. She was my best friend. However, things were different that I was now with Courtney. I didn't know whether I could say I loved her yet but I knew that my feelings grew for her, each and every day.

Elijah began to eat the cookie that I had bought for him.

"This is the best cookie I have ever had," he said.

"Right? It's a little surprising because it's only a school cookie but it's still so good!" I said.

I directed a warm smile to Elijah and the two of us were soon joined by Oliver.

"I brought you two some books from the library," he said.

"I knew I could trust you," Elijah replied.

"Well, I always am here to help you out. I deserve a medal or award for all my efforts at this point," Oliver stated.

I gave a slight shake of my head in amusement, as I gave him a friendly grin.

"It's going to be class time soon," I stated, as my eyes focused on the clock on the wall nearby.

Oliver's eyes met my own, as a thoughtful expression appeared upon his face.

"I'm tired," he said.

"You're not the only one," I replied.

The bell soon rang out and Oliver and I walked to class together.

Elijah had a school counsellor meeting, so the two of us had to say goodbye to him.

"Did something happen?" Oliver asked me.

"Why do you think that something happened?" I asked him.

He appeared thoughtful for a further few moments, before he replied.

"I don't know. You just seem happier," he told me.

I was happier. It was refreshing to now be with someone who actually wanted me back.

"I am happier," I said.

"Any reason for that?" he asked me, as we walked in through the class doorway to find that we had arrived late.

"By all means, feel free to continue your conversation. I wouldn't advise that you do, though," our teacher said, as his beady eyes looked our way.

I swallowed and went to sit down next to Courtney.

Oliver turned to me and smirked.

"I may or may not have written you some notes," Courtney said to me in a whisper, as she passed me a stack of papers.

Placed on each paper was a sticky note. Once I reached the end of the stack of papers, I found that Courtney had attached a note to the papers, which said 'you look really cute today' on it.

I turned to meet Courtney's gaze to see a gentleness appear in them. I simply smiled at her and she smiled back.

"Allen, Clarke, could the two of you please keep your focus?" our teacher asked.

"Sure, sir," Courtney said, as she sunk further into her chair and smirked back at our teacher.

Courtney directed a wink my way, before returning her attention to the front of the class.
