《Leather Jacket Girl (girlxgirl)》Chapter Thirty-Nine

The drive from the school to my house didn't take very long. Courtney waited outside in her car while I made my way into my house to put the flowers away in a vase in the kitchen.
"Who got you those?" Callie asked me, with an expression of intrigue evident on her face.
As she asked me that question, my heart skipped a beat. I decided to tell her the truth.
"Courtney," I said.
"Courtney?" she asked, as her eyes brightened a little in her amazement.
"Yeah! It surprised me, too, but it was pretty nice of her," I said.
I looked towards my sister as a thoughtful expression appeared on her face.
"Oh, she likes you," Callie said.
I felt my eyebrows crease together slightly. Courtney getting me flowers didn't have to mean that she liked me. It probably did, though. However, I knew that there were obstacles in that. She didn't seem the type to want anything serious with me and that was why I had to be careful with my feelings.
"She just wanted to do something nice," I said.
Callie pinched the bridge of her nose, then.
"You can be so naive at times, Phoebe. Trust me, this girl likes you," she told me. "I tell you this because I care about you and you deserve to know the truth."
"We don't know that's the truth," I replied nonchalantly.
"What are you looking for? A siren to go off that tells you that Courtney likes you?" she asked me.
"I should be getting back to her," I said, as I had enough of that conversation.
"Alright. Let me know how it goes," Callie told me.

I walked past her and back to the front door of the house, so that I could head out into the silver clouds.
It was a little cold but fortunately I had a very warm jacket.
I got back to Courtney's car and she walked around to open the door for me.
"There you go," she said.
"Thank you," I said, as I sat down.
Courtney walked back around to get into her own seat and began to drive off again.
As she drove, Courtney asked me a few questions.
"How was your sister?"
"She's all good," I replied, "How did you know I had a sister?" I asked her.
"I saw you outside when I drove past once...the two of you were talking and I made a guess," Courtney explained.
I smirked at that.
"Are you stalking me, Courtney?" I asked playfully.
"God, no. I happened to drive past when you were there. That's all," she said, as she tucked some of her now blonde hair behind her ear and focused her attention on the road ahead.
As she drove, Courtney gently shook her head slightly, as though she thought of something seemingly ridiculous.
Of course, she wasn't the only one. Ever since Callie had mentioned it, I had been wondering whether there was a chance that Courtney wasn't simply helping me get over Emmy. Maybe she was in this because she actually liked me. If she did, I wasn't sure what to do with that information. I was new to all this dating girls thing. This was crazy to me.
"Courtney, why are you doing this for me?" I asked her.
"'Cause...because I can," she said, as she adjusted her jacket a little.

Eventually, we reached the hill top view that Courtney had wanted to come to.
The two of us left the car and walked over to a place where we could both sit down and simply stare out at the city in front of us. The clouds in the sky above continued to move in but Courtney didn't look as though she was paying attention to that.
"You can be such an idiot," she said.
"I can?" I asked her.
"Yes. Why do you think I invited you here? Why do you think I'm doing any of this?" she asked me.
"'Cause you're a good friend?" I asked, as the pitch of my voice raised a little, in my curiosity.
Courtney released a soft chuckle, as she scooted over to me so that we were now sat mere inches from each other. She crossed her legs and tilted her head so she was looking at me again.
I couldn't help but feel slightly nervous in her presence. The only thing that took my mind off how nervous I felt was the chirping of a bird nearby.
I shrugged.
"It's because I like you, Phoebe."
I felt startled, as my heart began to race again. Maybe I was in a dream.
"I can't believe I said that. Now, you get it though. I like you," Courtney said.
I felt my breath hitch a little after she had said that, but I smiled all the same.
"Really?" I asked her.
Courtney placed a hand over her chest then. I wondered if her heart was racing, too.
"Really," she replied, as her eyes glanced from my own eyes down to my lips again.
As my hand rested on the grass beneath us, Courtney's moved forward until she placed it over mine, entwining our fingers together.
"You look so beautiful and I literally can't stop thinking about you for a second," she told me, as a playful glimmer appeared in her eyes. She then leant in a little more closely, until I was convinced she was going to kiss me and my breath sped up a little, all over again.
Courtney pressed her lips against my cheek and I smiled at her touch.
"Can I kiss you?" I asked her.
"Please do," Courtney whispered.
As a cold breath of air moved between the two of us, I reached out to hold both of Courtney's hands in mine and she pulled me towards her, so I could press my lips against hers. My eyes fluttered closed instinctively and the kiss was soft at first, before Courtney wound her arms around my waist and pulled me back up into her lap, not breaking the kiss for a second.
Once we had to part from each other so we could get our breathing back to normal, Courtney's eyes searched my own and she smiled.
"I know I said I didn't do the whole relationship thing before...but I don't know, Phoebs. You make me think I might change my mind," she said.
I released a soft laugh before I leant in and kissed her cheek.
